Mandola's Italian Kitchen is serving up better than adequate Italian dishes with a festive and family friendly atmosphere. The menu includes variety of Italian dishes in pasta, salads, soups, panini (served only until 4pm), chicken, shrimp, veal & short ribs only as daily specials, fresh oven baked pizza, as well as beers, wine, and cocktails. It offers an interesting vibe of counter-service meets sit-down meal. Upon entry on a Saturday evening, I was immediately greeted by a cheerful staff who explained to us that I was to place my order at the counter, then find seating anywhere on the inside or their very large outdoor seating patio. The counter staff were efficient accurate in taking the order. I decided to sit nearby the open kitchen with god view of all the cooking action. Their kitchen staff seemed to each have particular focus - one for prepping the salads, two for fresh baked pizza, three for pasta, soup, and chicken dishes. Warm bread and dipping EVOO with mixings along with plates and utensils were served pretty promptly upon seating. My cocktail came shortly thereafter. The rest of food came within 10 minutes of seating. The bread tasted freshly baked amd a good balance of warmth and softness. The Lemon Basil Mimosa was a good balance of sweet, tart, and basil essence mixed with Prosecco. This drink paired well with my Gnocchi & Meat Sauce (Ricotta, potato gnocchi served with classic Bolognese meat sauce with beef and pork). I asked the meat sauce to be served on the side. The gnocchi was cooked just right - perfectly chewy without tasting doughy. The meat sauce was decent, it could have tasted a lot better if served slightly warmer. The Italian wedding soup (Chicken, pork, soppressata, pancetta, prosciutto, mixed greens) tasted nice without being overpowered by any one ingredient. The Insalata Cotta e Cruda (A raw & grilled salad with salad greens, asparagus, fresh basil, mushrooms, zucchini, red pepper, potatoes, green beans, garbanzo & cannellini beans) with grilled chicken had a nice crunch, flavors of fresh grilled veggies and grilled meat. They also have a bakery serving in-house made cakes and gelato. Although I didn't get to try any of these during my visit, they were presented very attractively. The bakery has a constant flow of customers ordering. Overall Mandola's is a great casual Italian restaurant that you can bring family for comfort Italian food. The atmosphere is festive with attentive amd efficient serving staff. The ample seating inside as well expansive outdoor patio seating seem to comfortably accommodate all the customers. My first visit was all positive (except the slightly less warm meat sauce). I will have to return during lunch time to taste their panini and maybe their gelato. read more

It's a good place to go if you don't want to be bothered by waiters since you order at the counter and then sit down for the food to be brought to you. Came here for dinner the other night and was pretty disappointed. We were super excited about trying the new Mandola's and it was a big let down. We sat at the bar area and ordered dinner. The frozen sangria was really good. We ordered the calimari and zucchini appetizer, that was good. However, for dinner we ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and the lasagna. The first spaghetti that came out was the wrong one, the bar tender noticed that right away. They brought the correct one, but both the dinners were way overly salty. We each had a few bites then sent the food back. When you walk in there is no direction on where to go. We thought it was a sit down and order restaurant, but it's not. Even though we sat at the bar we figured out you place your order at one place, find a seat, then they come bring your food. We won't be back. I ate at your new place in Land O Lakes on Sunday. My daughter and husband took me there for my birthday --- my 73rd. I grew up Italian and know good Italian food and looked forward to my birthday lunch there. I ordered lasagna. You put far too much basil and oregano and it tasted bad. In fact I can say it was disgusting as the spices overpowered the flavor of the lasagna. I could only eat less that half. I was truly disappointed, especially for my birthday. We were really looking forward to going here with the whole family on a nice Sunday afternoon around 3pm. We have 4 young children, which one is special needs and new to going out to eat. It's something we are building towards as they have been really good in restaurants but we like to order something in advance so when we arrive the kids don't have to wait and everyone one can be more comfortable. It's usually no big deal and we are happy to pay in advance over the phone to avoid any issues. Anyways, I called in advance and politely explained that we would like to request ordering a pizza 30 min before we arrive for the kids. The young girl on the phone was extremely rude, she stated that they don't allow that. I then explained we had young kids, one being special needs, she didn't care she didn't even want to hear me out. I'm not sure if she didn't understand my request or this was the restaurants policy? So like, online reviews are weird where 4.5 stars and up is great, 4 stars means average, and 3.5 means watch out. Also, I think chain restaurants get knocked on sites like Yelp too, which favor more independent spots, which is cool. But chains aren't automatically average. I've been to Mandolas a few times now for lunch. Kids enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. Grandpa enjoyed it. Bakery is good. Cookies are yummy. Portions are good. Atmosphere is relaxed and simple. Newer to the area, Mandolas is a fantastic option for Italian food. When walking in, you'll notice that the restaurant is very open and you can even see people preparing food. There's a lot of space inside! Service was quick, friendly and the food was great. Tried a couple classics, the Margherita pizza and eggplant parm. The eggplant parm has a homemade taste which we really enjoyed. The pizza was super thin and has great taste. If you're planning on sharing, consider ordering another pizza! Great new Italian spot! Here for soft open they we doing very well. I tried the lasagna and garlic bread. The lasagnas was great only suggestion would be cut the salt in the added dark red sauce it was way too much. The taste would shine through even better with a lighter hand on the salt in that sauce. Ate at the new Mandola's Italian in Carrollwood. 3 words..."what a shame". To start with the concept is self serve ordering like 4 River BBQ or McAllister deli. You get a number on a stick and they bring out your order. I can live with that when I am paying $25 for 2 people at 4 Rivers. However, when I am paying $80 for 2 I expect a little more. As to food everything came out at different times, and quite frankly the main entre portions were rather small. I am so happy this restaurant has come to the Carrollwood area! It is the kind of Italian restaurant Ive always wished we had! The atmosphere is friendly and colorful! I love the fact that they have a few small child sized tables and some large round ones as well. I went for dinner with my mom the 3rd day they were open and everything was great! I like the menu the prices are reasonable and Ill definitely be back for lunch and happy hour. I got lemon piccata and it was the best I have had! It came with a small serving of fettuccine alfredo. Once seated you are served some focaccia and olive oil dip. Food comes out at a fairly good speed. Food is a bit on the cafeteria style/nothing special side. We tried pizza the first time we went, it was ok. We were surrounded by families with young kids, and every table had pizza. Overall probably a good place for that. I have now had three experiences at Mandola's, and they have all been fabulous. I am SO excited to have this restaurant close to home. Most new restaurants are a hot mess at first (until they figure out their groove,) but Mandola's has it down! The staff is all extremely friendly and on their A game- it almost feels like a Chick-Fil-A experience. The food has all been delicious, they have an incredible dessert selection, and they go above and beyond in small ways. I don't even have children and loved the fact that there's a mini table for kids, and the bathroom has COMPLIMENTARY diapers and wipes. I've never seen a complimentary baby changing station ever, and diapers are expensive. The self service drink area has everything you need, to-go containers, and cheese and roasted red pepper. Even their to-go utensils are a great quality. They have hilarious shirts for sale, which I couldn't resist purchasing. They have a great bar area. I had the adult lemonade, which was delicious. I am Italian and am SO impressed. Best gelato I think I've ever had, I love that their chicken is really thin, and the pasta has all been cooked perfectly! Tips: - If you like sauce, ask for extra. I personally hate too much sauce, and the sauce portion is PERFECT for my liking. But I'm not necessarily the norm - Be sure to tip generously. However, everything was bitter and did not live up to the hype. The pizza had way too much oil and garlic. The oil was dripping everywhere. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by the sweetest lady who explained the Order Before You Sit process! We tried the calamari which was good but the calamari rings were very tiny. The garlic fries were great! The bruschetta was ok. My husband loved the fettuccine alfredo that came with his chicken parm. He said he should have just gotten a large order of Alfredo! I had the chicken Cesar salad. There was way too much dressing but the chicken was good. We wanted to try their delicious looking dessert, but the ladies behind the dessert case seemed extremely annoyed that we walked up and didn't say a word to us but they gave each other a very distinct, disgusted look, so we decided to skip out and not bother them. Surprisingly good and blessedly very family friendly. Not always fun to take the grandkids (4&2) out for dinner but Mandola's makes it easy. I mean it's not the Ritz, but it is solid, reliable and quick, all things that make taking kids a pleasure. The whole, look at a menu, and order at the counter thing can be confusing, especially if there are people behind you, but it's not insurmountable. My favorite is the grilled chicken and vegetables. My friend and I both had chicken Parmesan with Alfredo linguin. Chicken Parmesan was a very thin chicken cutlet what look like a slice of cheese on top the chicken which was dry and had no flavor. The Alfredo linguini had very little sauce in it. My other friend had the spaghetti with meatballs, which also had very little spaghetti sauce on it the meatballs just Ok. They "don't take reservations" today but somehow now managers announces "several large parties coming and you have been here too long so wrap it up". First time eating at a Mandola's. The set up is a little different for fine dining, in that you order your food cafeteria style. But then they bring it to your table. The Cannelloni Fiorentina was delectable. And extra attention was given-- I think it was the arkansas accent used to say it was our first time. Lol. Handmade Italian cookies were brought out to our table on the patio and then her husband came out of the kitchen and we had a connecting conversation.
