French toast

We were in manhattan beach area and it was only a 10 min drive. Little lot with a 70s feel, old school interior with booths. Service was fast, the food was delivered quickly and we were out in 45 minutes. I wanted something on the lighter side, eggs, hash browns and toast. Everyone ate all of the breakfast. If we are in the Manhattan beach area would stop again for a quick bite. We were pressed for time and we were out with time to spare.

Great old school family diner with an extensive menu, fair prices, and breakfast all day! Decor is homey and casual and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Hubs got the bacon breakfast with home fries and I went with the ham steak and sub French fries. Both meals were delicious and FILLING! Breakfast also comes with toast, so this was a LOT of food. Poster of the Clooney/Pitt movie, "Wolfs" seemed slightly out of place, but the owner proudly explained that Mandy's was used as the final diner scene. AWESOME! If we're back this way and looking for a warm, delicious, home cooked breakfast or lunch, we will gladly stop at Mandy's again. Cheers! "CC"

Hands down my favorite breakfast spot! Blessed to live down the street this is that old school type 1950s diner straight from an old 90s film! The food is consistently amazing and the service is the best! They make you feel at home and the food always hits the spot!

Cute nostalgic hole in the wall family restaurant. Gives you the before technology vibes. So simple and food is great! 1 server 1 cook and they were amazing! Love these types of mom & pop shops. Better to support these small business & get your monies worth for food.

Stoped by for brunch on a Saturday and had a pleasant experience. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. My husband had the T-bone steak with eggs and loved it. I ordered the nachos and they were OK, a little salty.

Okay so I found this place on Yelp for my fellow yelpers and I must say it was a nice "first" experience. My son and I were hungry for some breakfast food and I checked Yelp for an affordable local option and this place popped up. I'm usually pretty skeptical about trying new things not totally against it tho. So I told my son let's give it a try and we are both happy campers that we did. Food: The food arrived hot, filling and tasty. When I say it was a good portion for your buck they did not disappoint. I couldn't even finish all my food and my growing young teen 18 very active athlete was full too. Now that's a plus! Service: The service was great they kept checking in to make sure we were okay didn't need anything else. Now, they didn't overly check in it was periodically and I appreciated that :) Ambiance: Now this place striked me as an old school mom and pop spot. Ain't nothing wrong with that those places "usually" have good service, good foods, and affordable options. To say I won't be visiting this place again is a total lie lol my son and I plan to visit this place in the near future especially since it's budget friendly our meal cost $30 bucks for two; lord knows finances ain't what it use to be. A few other key points. They didn't have turkey bacon or chicken patties unfortunately. Looked like only one bathroom stall didn't go in there so can't review that. Parking can get tricky should've taken a pic of that darn but we didn't have trouble today. Overall had a great "first" experience and definitely plan to go back. Might even introduce this spot to a few friends and my next boo thang when I get one of those haha all in all give it a try it was cool for us.

Cheese omelette

I ordered a cheese omelette and it was delicious and felt like a classic coffee shop. The service was great. The ambiance feels like a warm old school diner. The "wolf" with George Clooney and Brad Pitt was filmed here. You can even request their booth. Also "my name is domite" with Eddie Murphy was also filmed here. Will definitely go back when I'm nearby.

One of the best breakfast spots in Hawthorne. I would classify Mandy's as a Country Diner for multiple reasons. It feels like you're eating in someone's house vs a 50's car-centered diner, and I mean that in a positive way. It's very homely and you can tell it's the sort of place that is filled with regulars and travelers alike. I am a huge fan of diners and was excited to eat as soon as I saw the inside. It's a true classic diner in all senses of the word. It's quite large on the inside and they have plenty of indoor only seating options. They have booths, tables, and counter seating. There is a large free parking lot attached so parking is easy and plentiful. Our server was very polite and she was very fast with the refills. Just like any classic diner they have a lot of great options on their large menu plus a rotating list of daily specials. I started off the meal with a cup of coffee, per usual, and it was tasty and strong. For my meal I chose my favorite breakfast dish: the Eggs Benedict. It was very good and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The ham was thick and cooked to a perfect temperature. As a side I chose one biscuit topped with gravy and it was fantastic. It was a true thick, flaky, old-school biscuit and it went quickly. Overall I was very impressed. I live up in West LA so am not in this area often, but I would stop in again next time I am down in the area and would certainly suggest to anyone in the area of heading to it.

There was a seat available right away, and I sat down immediately. Unfortunately, that's where the good part ended. The waitress walked past me at least 15-20 times without acknowledging me -- no greeting, no offer of coffee, nothing. I was completely ignored. The busboy ended up being the one who took my order. I ordered chicken fried steak with eggs over medium and wheat toast. What I received was chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, and white toast. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was very thin and almost transparent -- definitely not the hearty country gravy you'd expect. To be fair, the coffee was decent, and even though I didn't order them, the scrambled eggs were soft and cooked well. But getting the order wrong and feeling overlooked the entire time overshadowed any positives. The waitress seemed far more focused on regular customers and had a very cold demeanor toward anyone new. I understand taking care of regulars, but basic courtesy and attention should apply to everyone. Overall, a disappointing experience. I won't be returning.

I was dining on the patio with a friend and my service dog. At the time, there were only a couple of other occupied tables, so the restaurant was not busy. Our server, Allison, was repeatedly distracted by a young child from another table instead of attending to her customers. I even have video showing her spending significant time playing with and following the child around while we waited for service. When our food finally arrived, it was brought by another employee and my order was incorrect. I sent it back twice, and after waiting with no follow-up from Allison, I eventually had to go inside the restaurant myself to ask for assistance because she had not checked on us. When Allison finally came outside, I simply asked to have my meal boxed to go because the experience had already been so disappointing. What happened next was completely unacceptable. A man who was not our server--and who I later learned was apparently the husband of another waitress--came outside and began verbally attacking us. He yelled at us, threw wads of money at us, and told us to leave. He even made comments implying that no one wanted us there because we had a dog and were seated on the patio. No customer should ever be treated this way, especially by someone who wasn't even serving the table. Angel, the assistant manager, tried to help, but unfortunately the situation had already escalated far beyond what should ever happen in a restaurant. I seriously considered calling the police because of how aggressive the confrontation became. After leaving, I called the restaurant and spoke with Angel. I requested that the general manager contact me about the incident. That call was recorded, and despite being told someone would follow up, I never received a call. Everyone can have a bad night, but this went far beyond poor service. It involved incorrect food, inattentive service, an aggressive confrontation by someone who should never have been involved, and a complete lack of follow-up from management. I sincerely hope Marmalade Cafe reviews its customer service standards and its policies regarding who is permitted to confront guests. No customer should ever leave feeling humiliated or verbally attacked after simply trying to have dinner.
