Found this gem on Instagram. How have I lived in the South Bay and rarely explored downtown El Segundo? This is a mom and pop shop. Cash only. I sat at the booth and ordered the top sirloin (medium rare) and eggs with sides of sliced tomato and toast. All that with coffee for $22.20?! The china was beautiful. Charming even. They were super busy so service wasn't anything over the top. I appreciated the check-ins though. It's a cute spot for a morning date or for a single gal filling her cup for the weekend.

First time to this small establishment but didn't wait long to be seated. Friendly service from all the gals serving. Quickly took or beverage order. Coffee was good. Food came out nice and hot. Everything was delicious. This place has an old school milk shake machine and a wall phone. I thought it was cute and nostalgic. I'd definitely come back for another meal. I can't believe I passed in front of this place and never realized. Not sure how the other breakfast spots are still in business with this gem around...must have missed it like I did for years.

I was visiting from Texas and wanted to try a local diner, so I checked the reviews and decided to stop in. It looked promising. There was a seat available right away, and I sat down immediately. Unfortunately, that's where the good part ended. The waitress walked past me at least 15-20 times without acknowledging me -- no greeting, no offer of coffee, nothing. I was completely ignored. The busboy ended up being the one who took my order. I ordered chicken fried steak with eggs over medium and wheat toast. What I received was chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, and white toast. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was very thin and almost transparent -- definitely not the hearty country gravy you'd expect. To be fair, the coffee was decent, and even though I didn't order them, the scrambled eggs were soft and cooked well. But getting the order wrong and feeling overlooked the entire time overshadowed any positives. The waitress seemed far more focused on regular customers and had a very cold demeanor toward anyone new. I understand taking care of regulars, but basic courtesy and attention should apply to everyone. Overall, a disappointing experience. I won't be returning.

The epitome of a diner. We went for breakfast. Our meals were good and excellent friendly service.

Wendy's Place is the best breakfast diner!!! I am normally not a breakfast person, but everything I had here was so delicious. They are located in downtown El Segundo and it is a small establishment. You really can't go wrong with any item you get here. There are many options to choose from and something for everyone. Great food, pretty good service and full bellies! We were heading to a nearby restaurant when my breakfast date smelled the food from this restaurant. It was so enticing, we changed our plans. This cute diner had our food out relatively fast and everything was so delicious. We enjoyed omelettes, French toast and very tasty potatoes. The coffee was so good!!! We'll definitely be back.

Where do all the locals go? Tooling around El Segundo I find Wendy's place to have myself some breakfast. Located on grand Avenue off Main Street is Wendy's place. A very cute little unassuming restaurant filled with local folk. The menu has got to be a blast from the past. The equipment such as their milkshake machine is vintage My waitress made sure my coffee cup was always filled and delivered the food S soon as the kitchen finished preparing the meal El Segundo is close to LAX so it is a place that's convenient for me to stop in and visit. I will definitely be back to Wendy's.

WE LOVE Wendy's Place! This cozy diner is a feast for the eyes while you wait for your food, with walls adorned with posters and pictures from the '50s and '60s. The whole vibe is old-school, which feels refreshing compared to all the contemporary and chic brunch spots popping up lately. It's comforting to know places like this still exist in the South Bay, and we love visiting on Saturdays for their weekend special--biscuits and gravy! The biscuits are homemade and extra delicious with that rich gravy on the side. I enjoy all the dishes, but biscuits and gravy is definitely my favorite. My second favorite would have to be the chili omelette--just some authentic meat and bean chili smothered in a cheesy omelette. Nothing beats that for a nice morning brunch! The restaurant gets busy around noon, so I recommend arriving a bit early if you want to avoid waiting 30+ minutes. Overall, Wendy's Place is a true gem! PS. Bring cash or be ready to use your Zelle or Venmo. This place does not accept credit cards!

We loved this locally owned family diner. It had great old school character and warm, welcoming charm. The service was very friendly and helpful. Parking can be an issue during busy times. We had breakfast here and tried eggs Benedict and steak n eggs. Everything was very hearty and delicious. Cooked to perfection. We absolutely loved it. This restaurant accepts cash, Venmo or Zelle. No CC which for us was not a problem at all.

The last time we were here, it was during a busy lunch and both the service and the food were below par. But tonight, it wasn't as busy and our server, Geovani, was excellent. First, we were quickly greeted and asked to select our table (since they were not that busy). Since there was only two of us, we picked a table for two. But, after we decided that we would split an appetizer and an entree, the table for two became way to small way too quickly. Geovani jumped right on this, suggesting we move to a larger table. He helped us move everything over and, voila, we were able to stretch out and relax and enjoy our meal. We started with the pear and blue cheese salad and, wow, we could have just ordered this, split it, and we would have been full. Very flavorful, generous portion that is definitely big enough to share. We also ordered the Sausage & Leek Fettuccine and I was definitely not thinking. Totally forgetting that leeks are part of the onion family (and I have a sensativity to onions). Once the dish arrive, I immediately noticed the similarity and was slowly trying to pick them away from my portion. Once again, Geovani came to our rescue. He asked how everything was and I told him I made a mistake (noted above). He quickly volunteered to have the kitchen make it again without the leeks. I asked, "Are you sure?", and he immediately said yes and removed the dish. Very shortly after, he returned with the "onion sterile" dish and it was wonderful. Both of us were so full you could have rolled us out the door. Good thing the parking garage is so close so we could just hop in our car and go home. Time to loosen the belt! ;) In a week where we have had some personal issues, it was so nice to be treated so well and received such a great tasting meal. Hope you get the time to stop in and I hope you get Giovani to answer all your questions and issues. Enjoy!!!

Absolutely the worst…read more The place is left to be run by a bunch of un professional staff. Came to sit down and despite the place having many tables, the person by the door insisted that we have all of party present to seat us, which is understandable if they are busy but they were not even 50% full, when I said my brother was right there walking down the street, he insisted to hold his ground. Then literally 30 seconds later my brother is here, then I tell him he is right right there, he goes "ok, I will let you know when a table is ready", why not use stove common sense & say that a table is not even ready? Sounds like steering maybe because of the 4 kids ? Maybe something else? Very rude and I'm acceptable behavior. Then to add to it, turns out I was talking to the manager "Ello", who is acting in your face and challenging you more like a night club bouncer than a "manager" at a cafe....

We shared an omelette (substituted ham with grilled chicken) + pancakes...it was pretty good. The pancakes were served with a generous amount of melted butter which made it even better. We ordered 2 coffee, classic eggs benedict with hashbrowns, and the porkchop with eggs with hashbrowns and a side of buttermilk pancakes. We saw everyone else's food being brought out to their tables, and it all looked pretty good (especially the omelets). Our food took a little longer to arrive, and people who ordered after us received their food first, but it wasn't a big deal. The coffee was watery, and no amount of sugar or creamer could help it. And to think it was $5.49. We finally got our food, and unfortunately, it was not good. The Eggs Benedict ($17.99) was the first disappointment. I took a bite and immediately tasted something sour when I started chewing it. At first I thought it was just the ham, but I'm not entirely sure, since it was covered in hollandaise sauce. It also lacked flavor overall. The only thing I liked was the poached eggs. The pork chop with eggs ($18.99) was extremely dry, difficult to chew, and very bland. It didn't seem seasoned at all. We ordered a side of gravy to help, but I didn't realize it cost an extra $3. I wouldn't have ordered it had I known, especially since it didn't improve the taste or texture of the pork chop. The pancakes were oddly eggy and didn't taste like pancakes at all. As for the hash browns, I didn't realize hash browns could taste bad, but these were mushy and almost slimy. Half of them were heavily seasoned, while the other half was bland. Even the ketchup didn't help because it only made them mushier. Overall, the server was nice, but I wouldn't come back here for the food.

We checked in with our party of six and were waiting to be seated. Another party of six arrived after us--nicely dressed women--and they were seated before us. When we asked why they were seated ahead of us despite checking in after us, no one could give us an explanation. We had just come from our kids' local soccer game, so we were dressed like what we were: soccer parents. We were then seated outside, in what appeared to be more of a waiting area than an actual restaurant seating area. When we asked about sitting inside, we were told we would have to wait another 40 minutes. I personally approached the hostess to ask about the seating arrangement and why the other party had been seated before us. Again, there was no explanation. I don't want to jump to conclusions or accuse anyone of discrimination based on race, age, appearance, or anything else. However, the experience genuinely felt like we were being treated differently based on how we looked or were dressed. What makes it more concerning is seeing other reviews describing similar experiences. At the very least, the seating process needs to be more transparent and consistent. If there is a reason one party is seated before another, especially when they checked in later, the staff should be able to clearly explain why. Unfortunately, that did not happen here, and it made us feel unwelcome. I wish we didn't stay, but kids we were hungry. But I won't be coming here again or recommending this restaurant.
