The hosting situation was a nightmare, and unfortunately, the way we were treated left a really bad impression. Which sucks because we were ready to drop some money on a good brunch! We checked in with our party of six and were waiting to be seated. Another party of six arrived after us--nicely dressed women--and they were seated before us. When we asked why they were seated ahead of us despite checking in after us, no one could give us an explanation. We had just come from our kids' local soccer game, so we were dressed like what we were: soccer parents. We were then seated outside, in what appeared to be more of a waiting area than an actual restaurant seating area. When we asked about sitting inside, we were told we would have to wait another 40 minutes. I personally approached the hostess to ask about the seating arrangement and why the other party had been seated before us. Again, there was no explanation. I don't want to jump to conclusions or accuse anyone of discrimination based on race, age, appearance, or anything else. However, the experience genuinely felt like we were being treated differently based on how we looked or were dressed. What makes it more concerning is seeing other reviews describing similar experiences. At the very least, the seating process needs to be more transparent and consistent. If there is a reason one party is seated before another, especially when they checked in later, the staff should be able to clearly explain why. Unfortunately, that did not happen here, and it made us feel unwelcome. I wish we didn't stay, but kids we were hungry. But I won't be coming here again or recommending this restaurant. read more

We came on a Sunday before 11am and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. It ended up being a 50-55 minute wait. When we were seated we were given both the breakfast and the lunch menus. We went yesterday for Dine LA and had a good experience. The wait staff was very friendly. They were running low on some items and were sure to let us know. We ordered the French onion soup to start. It was salty, but good. I wish the cheese was a little hotter and meltier. For the main we got prime rib. The prime rib was great. The green beans were delicious. The mashed potatoes were not good. Decided to stop in and try the marmalade café here in El Segundo after seeing them on the Dine LA list and also that they had a good number of reviews. Not sure if there's more of a lunch and brunch spot butI came here for dinner on week night and it was kind of rough. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to them and being short staffed. Overall, it was just kind of a long and interesting one and done experience. I could tell that my waiter was probably the only one there and it took an unnecessarily long time for dinner. He was very attentive in the beginning and took my order right away and then came the waiting. I got the tuna tartare, prime rib, creme brulee. Food turned out just okay. The sourdough bread that came during my entree was pretty good actually. I was glad I had eaten a little bit before, and I was intrigued by their happy hour menu. So decided to do get to the restaurant slightly earlier but then ultimately decided just to get the dine La menu. From the reviews in general here, people are having great dining experiences here. This Marmalade Cafe location is off the beaten path therefore it is not quite as busy as the other locations. It has a large dining room with plenty of seating and some outdoor seating as well. Plenty of parking in the lot as well. This was our first visit to this location. We were greeted when we arrived, the host staff were very friendly. Our server was acceptable but not as attentive as we are used to at the other locations. We love Marmalade as they have a great selection for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Between the three of us we ordered the pancakes and eggs with bacon, bacon and eggs, and the bagel with lox. All the food was fresh and cooked as ordered. The bacon is very good and was cooked perfectly. Th espresso choices are nice as well. The portions are large to either fill you up or enough to take home. If you haven't been to a Marmalade I highly recommend them for consistent yummy breakfast, lunch or dinner. This location did not disappoint. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Marmalade Cafe in El Segundo was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. I was dining on the patio with a friend and my service dog. At the time, there were only a couple of other occupied tables, so the restaurant was not busy. Our server, Allison, was repeatedly distracted by a young child from another table instead of attending to her customers. I even have video showing her spending significant time playing with and following the child around while we waited for service. When our food finally arrived, it was brought by another employee and my order was incorrect. I sent it back twice, and after waiting with no follow-up from Allison, I eventually had to go inside the restaurant myself to ask for assistance because she had not checked on us. When Allison finally came outside, I simply asked to have my meal boxed to go because the experience had already been so disappointing. What happened next was completely unacceptable. A man who was not our server--and who I later learned was apparently the husband of another waitress--came outside and began verbally attacking us. He yelled at us, threw wads of money at us, and told us to leave. He even made comments implying that no one wanted us there because we had a dog and were seated on the patio. No customer should ever be treated this way, especially by someone who wasn't even serving the table. Angel, the assistant manager, tried to help, but unfortunately the situation had already escalated far beyond what should ever happen in a restaurant. I seriously considered calling the police because of how aggressive the confrontation became. After leaving, I called the restaurant and spoke with Angel. I requested that the general manager contact me about the incident. That call was recorded, and despite being told someone would follow up, I never received a call. Everyone can have a bad night, but this went far beyond poor service. It involved incorrect food, inattentive service, an aggressive confrontation by someone who should never have been involved, and a complete lack of follow-up from management. I sincerely hope Marmalade Cafe reviews its customer service standards and its policies regarding who is permitted to confront guests. No customer should ever leave feeling humiliated or verbally attacked after simply trying to have dinner. read more

They should not advertise "vegan options" as the only vegan breakfast option on the menu is the fresh fruit. So it was a mashup of toast and fruit and avocado. My companions enjoyed their egg white omelette and avocado toast which were made with fresh ingredients. Both vegetarian. Mmmmarmalade. Great food and a pleasant atmosphere. Three of us dined on an early Saturday evening, and it wasn't busy at all. Our reservation was for 5:45, and as we found out, it was completely unnecessary. There were less than a dozen of us patrons there at the time. I thought, uh oh... The uh oh didn't materialize. Other than being a bit lonely, (not that my guests weren't entertaining, they're usually good for a laugh, and that evening they didn't disappoint) everything went off without a hitch. Well,... not exactly. My girl ordered a glass of wine with her salmon, and she being a connoisseur of that particular brand, detected an off taste. That wouldn't do, especially at $15 a pop. Our waiter was hailed and he promptly brought another glass. A different blend of course. Perfect. I joked with my lady that she reminded me of a character from an episode of Columbo. A wine connoisseur murder suspect was caught because of his expertise in the delicate art of detecting subtle differences in taste. She shook her head and said "who watches Columbo anymore". Ha! I do! As a matter of fact, I'm watching an episode as I write this review!! My pot roast was fantastic. The salmon, wonderful. You'll find the same I'm sure. Quick Tip: Most of you don't know who Columbo is. If you don't know, you're missing out. Fill the file between your ears with a few tv episodes. I love Marmalade Cafe. I've been coming here for brunch for the past five years. Even though I do not come often, I find that the quality of the meal remains high. Now, I can only speak of their breakfast and brunch options-I actually have never had lunch or dinner here. Just recently, I went for brunch with my sister and sister-in-law. I usually order the Classic Eggs Benedict which was absolutely scrumptious. The poached eggs were perfectly runny without the eggy flavor. I have always appreciated their home fries which are smoky in flavor, yet crispy on the outside with a fluffy center. I am also a fan of their crab cake eggs benedict which has no fishy flavor. I am not sure what spices they use, but it pairs well with the eggs benedict profile. The crab cake is pan-seared which gives the benedict a crispy texture that accompanies the smoothness of the poached egg. My sister ordered the CHAR-GRILLED STEAK & EGGS breakfast which she gave a double thumbs up! My sister-in-law ordered the CROSS CREEK BREAKFAST which she enjoyed, especially because of the pancakes. I have never had pancakes at Marmalade but my family looks forward to them. I'm just not a pancake girlie. Since it was lunchtime, I decided to order the Reuben Sandwich with a side of Caesar Salad. I lived on the east coast for a few years and have had some of the best reubens and pastrami sandwiches. Marmalade's Reuben was not my favorite because the corned beef was kind of fatty. I don't like the texture of fat, so I found it off-putting. Now, I place the fault on me, not the restaurant. Why? Because my sister tried the sandwich and really liked it. Brunch at Marmalade -- Decent, but Pricey Landed at LAX a bit earlier than expected and, being back in SoCal after a conference in Portland, I was in the mood for brunch. While taxiing to the gate, I texted my daughter (who lives nearby), and lucky me -- she and her boyfriend were free. We made a plan, I grabbed my rental car, and met up at Marmalade. Parking: Easy and plentiful.Timing: Saturday morning around 11 a.m., surprisingly, no wait. Our server was super pleasant, professional, and took care of us quickly. The food: Not bad overall, but a couple of misses. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with lox and specifically asked for the eggs to be poached medium (not runny). Unfortunately, they still came out runny. Could I have sent them back? Sure, but I was hungry and didn't want to wait. Such is life. The bigger issue for me was cost vs. value. I don't mind spending money when dining out, but our total for three breakfasts -- a lox scramble, pancakes with scrambled eggs, and my eggs Benedict with lox, plus three coffees -- came to about $85 + tip. On the weekends it gets crowded here for breakfast so get here early or you will need to take your patient pill. The hook for me is the breakfast! There is healthy options also. All the servers were very attentive and friendly. This is definitely a restaurant I will be coming back to, I strongly recommend. I really enjoyed my BLTA - but please note, I noticed the lettuce was kind of dirty, I cleaned it off with my finger and yes indeed in was dirty!! My boyfriend got the Bloody Mary and did not like it. He sent it back and instead got the agua Fresca but that was very sugary and not good. This restaurant is the location where I and a group of longtime friends (more than 30 years) have chosen to reunite twice a year and it is always a lovely experience. We met there this past Saturday and, as usual, were very pleased with the service and the food. Our next reunion will be in January 2027 but, since I live in Manhattan Beach, I will be dining at Marmalade several times before then. read more

I've been coming to Marmalade in El Segundo for years. The food is good, the coffee is good, the service was good. For years. After today, I'm not going back, and neither are any of the 7 people who were with me. We had reservations for a birthday celebration outdoors; reservations I made last week, and which included people coming in from out of town to attend. When I arrived and gave my name, the hostess said that they couldn't seat us outdoors because there was a private party. I mentioned that I'd made the reservation last week and that nothing had been said about a private party. She motioned to a table in the center of the crowded, noisy restaurant, saying we could sit there. I told her that the outdoor seating was crucial. The hostess said that their Open Table system doesn't communicate with their in-house system, but "I did call you this morning to let you know." First: My phone shows no record of a call from Marmalade. Second: Why this morning? Why not last week? How would knowing this morning have made anything okay? The hostess was entirely unbothered and just kept repeating that there was nothing else she could do, and would I like to talk to a manager. Reader, I did. A manager came out and said that they could accommodate our party of 8 outside, a few feet away from the patio. I said that was absolutely great, we didn't have to be on the patio, but we did need to be outdoors. Tables were scooted together, chairs were brought, and we were seated. Our waitress arrived to take beverage orders. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. The last couple of guests showed up and were asked if they wanted beverages. Beverages were brought. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. I wish I were exaggerating when I say that the waitress finally took our order about 50 minutes into the entire experience, and then only because I said, "I think we're ready to order." The rest of the meal continued in this way, with fun details like our requesting two missing table settings, and salt and pepper, and having to ask multiple times. At one point, our waitress came outside holding two table settings, put one down, and walked back inside with the other one. (The other folks--those providing coffee and water refills--were fantastic.) We had all been done with our meals for some time, and the waitress continued to come outside and ask if everything was going okay. We would say yes, and then she would disappear without taking any dishes away. Toward the end she was gone for more than a half-hour. She finally came out holding the check, and at this point we had been on the premises for more than three hours. No one apologized. No one tried to make anything right. It was just amazingly bad all the way around. It's incredible that people are getting paid to deliver this kind of zombie-like assholery. read more

The hostess and servers were all friendly and attentive, and there was very little wait time for our food or drink refills. Although there's a high beamed ceiling, the noise level wasn't terrible, and we could keep up a conversation. Everything we ordered was delicious - chips and guacamole, turkey melt (with a yummy chipotle aioli), sweet potato fries, burger, club sandwich... Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. We've been going to this place for over 10 years and I must tell you the quality of the food AND service is exemplary. At most places when you make a reservation good luck in getting a table on time or where you requested to be seated. This place will actually put a reserved placard on your table before you arrive. It's amazing . . . . . really. Our favorite server is Estrella and she sets the bar high for both the food and service. She always goes out of her way to make sure you are satisfied. There is a long time manager there named Taryn who you will always see greeting regulars like they are family and checking on all the tables to make sure you have everything you need/want. It's places like this who are still in business long after the run-of-the-mill restaurants have folded because they are consistent in their quality and service and because they FREAKING ACTUALLY CARE! You might pay a little more for them being an "upscale" coffee shop but there's no price you can put on the love and quality and just plain delicious food consistently served EVERY TIME YOU GO! read more

There were plenty of other tables so we reuqested to move to another table, which the waiter promptly accommodated. Our friends arrived later than planned but the waiter did not seem to mind. The food was decent. We ordered guacamole & chips and when we ran low on the chips, the waoter happily brought us more chips. We ordered two different types of salads, fish & chips, and soup/half sandwich combo. Everyone was satisfied with their food and we lingered for a while to chat. I like that the wait staff sat us at the table before the whole party was there, did not pressure us to order right away& allowed us to linger after the meals were completed. Plenty of parking as that side of the businesses all seemed to have shut down. Just across the street is booming eith Whole Foods, Nordstrom Rack, Home Goods, etc. read more
