A few years ago I decided to let my hair grow out and not really do much with it. I had found Heather here at mane designs via referral from Jan (who also works there) Heather had cut my hair a couple of times throughout my long hair experience. Prior to me letting my hair grow I had tried out several salons over the years (Dean Anthony, Den, JW, and Razorbacks.) There was nothing wrong with the other places I just wasn't super happy with one thing or another. Well after 3+ years I decided it was time for a change and I wanted to donate all my hair. So I went and saw Heather and let me tell you this has been the best haircut of my life! I'm extremely happy with how it turn out. Not only is Heather an amazing stylist but the overall experience is just amazing. She truly cares about her clients and goes above and beyond to make sure they are happy. Plus my haircut was easily a $65+ hair cut with the time and attention and I only paid $35 so so great full! I highly highly recommend Heather but Mane Designs overall is just a great Salon! Heather is a true artist, and hair doctor! I had been using drug store boxes for many years to keep my hair black. I loved my black hair at one time, but as I started to enter my mature years it seemed to age me. I was scared going in to see Heather as I had already seen two other stylists to try to lighten my hair. WHEN I SAW THE OTHER STYLISTS HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED: The first time literally nothing happened other than drying out my hair, it didn't look like the color had budged at all. The second time I tried it looked a tad bit lighter so I decided to let that stylist try again. We tried several more times, and it only damaged my hair with no real gains. I have a basic understanding of how hair color works, just from all the fails I had experienced over the years playing at home. I knew that if I found the right person it could be done, and I could even keep all of the hair on my head! I called around shopping for the "right" person. I was turned down at several places and was told it was impossible. Most of the salons wanted nothing to do with it. I held out hope, and kept looking until I found Heather. I walked in and told her that I was willing to be patient, and suffer some damage if she was comfortable giving it a try. She didn't blink an eye, and because I understood the depth of the situation she was willing to give it a go. ON THE VERY FIRST ATTEMPT we had big gains, and I knew I had found my girl! Going from black to light is no easy task, and it can be very hard on your hair. I have been with Heather over a year now (sometimes in the first stage seeing her every two weeks), my hair is healthy, shiny, ALL still attached, and the perfect color I was looking for. I am truly thrilled to have found such an amazing artist, it takes true skill to do what she has done with my hair. If you are looking for a new stylist do yourself a favor and call Heather! If you happen to be going from black to light, she can and will get you where you want to be....... BUT you need to be patient, and understand the process. I'm so excited that Heather Martin is now at Mane! Right around the corner from the gym so I can run in and get a quick "fro fix"! And I mean quick, it's the best - I am an extremely impatient person to the point I'd rather not do anything than waste time getting my hair done. When Heather first blew my hair out straight I couldn't believe how quick it was. I always leave with wet hair from salons because A) the stylist always tries to style my curly hair and 97 times it looks lame. B) I don't have 2 hours to spend at the salon. Get it done and get going. Life is busy! Heather also knows what to do. I do not! She just knows color and makes it look rad! Promise you won't be disappointed. Recently she did the keratin treatment and it worked so well. I love the recommendations she gives and trust her completely with my hair. I've been going to Gene since I was about 7 (Im 20 now). He has fixed my hair, and told me when I should go a different direction than what I was planning. But he has never lead me wrong. He is one of the only people I trust cutting my hair. And recently he also did a color correction and I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair. Best hair experience i have had in a long while! I was on a walk with my dog when i noticed the salon tucked on a side street of Belmont Shore. I decided to check pricing although it looked like it would be pricier then i normally get. Sure enough fate took its course because they were the friendliest welcoming people who were able to squeeze me in same day without being over priced. Gene was who was available. The nicest thing was that he called me to let me know his earlier appt was running late so he could take me now if i wanted. I thought that was super considerate of him to not only let me know in advance that they were running late so i didnt get there and have to wait for that, but also have the option to come in early and have the late person be the one to wait a bit (not that having anyone wait was his intention), but it was just very time considerate and conscious which was much appreciated. Gene took care to ask me what i wanted, payed attention to my natural calics and had a very pleasant chat. He also offered me a glass of wine so i felt especially relaxed and taken care of. Best of all he listened to what i wanted and did exactly that! He did layers and kept my long hair long. Best hair dresser i have had in a very long time! Thank you Gene for fitting me in and taking special care of my hair. It feels loved today! Also, they were super friendly to my dog and gave her treats! I always love dog people! read more

Gene did an awesome job! I will be coming back and will likely let him tackle a more drastic cut and some color. My hair is very, very thick and Gene took the time to really get in there and take some of the weight out of my locks. On top of that he rectified a terrible cut inflicted by a stylist at a different salon. As an added bonus it took him far less time than I am used to. Gene has been doing my hair since I was about 6 or 7, I am 21 now and he is still the only person I trust to do my hair. I started going to him when my grandma decided i was old enough to choose my own hair style. I was a difficult customer and always wanted something different. Gene has never let me down but has always made sure I got what looked good on me even if that meant he had to lead me in a totally different direction. I trust him. I took a chance on this hair salon and I'm so glad I did. I am in Long Beach for an extended stay and decided to take a chance on this salon and stylist down the street from where I'm staying, rather than waiting until I got back home to Arizona to have my hair done. Diane did an absolutely fantastic job. She actually suggested an adjustment to my color and highlighting, to more naturally match my own color and skin tone, and I love what she did. Diane Peyton is by far the best colorist in all of Long Beach. I LOVE my color & love the quaint environment at Mane as well as it's proximity to 2nd St.. Parking here is easier than at most salons on 2nd St. because of the easy access lot directly across the street.
