So this was the first time here. The pizza was flat out disgusting. The pizza was like frozen dough cafeteria pizza. The cheese and all cooked on top and the inside/bottom raw. I wouldn't eat that again. Maybe their thin crust is better idk. The chicken franchise sauce was lemony and good. The chicken quality was just okay for me. They put the pie back in the oven and only the cheese cooked more. The dough was still doughy. They offered to make another pie or take it off the bill. We opted off the bill. I'd get the same dough. I won't come back. If people like this pizza and this is normal, people need to try real Pizza. This place belongs on kitchen nightmares imo. The ambiance is basic. We have ordered from mangia loyally and regularly for a decade. Today we ordered 2 large pies, well done, extra sauce. They came to us with the cheese and toppings slid off the pie. We called within minutes of the driver leaving and the owner told us our only remedy was to give the pies back and wait for them to send new ones. I explained the driver was welcome to come see them and asked if we could keep at least 1 of the pies for our kids to have one of the couple salvagable slices, as they'd been waiting an hour to eat. He refused repeatedly and insisted we return the pies and wait the time again for delivery. We tip well and order OFTEN. I asked if it was really worth losing our business over 1 pie that wasnt our mistake (it had clearly been tilted in delivery) and he said that it was. Luckily there are dozens of pizza places within a few miles of my home. We are SO disappointed in Mangia that this is my very first review. read more

Disappointing experience. We stopped at Mangia while traveling through Tom's River. A cute pizzeria tucked into a shopping center near the parkway, or so we thought. Upon entering we saw a full staff, everyone hanging behind to counter but no smiles or greeting when we entered. We were then approached by someone and asked what we wanted, but slightly rude with no facial expressions and didn't seem to want to talk about the display case. We ordered 3 slices and an Italian hero .. for $30, paid in cash, and weren't given a receipt. The cashier didn't ask if we wanted one (which is the final step in service) or offer a pleasant closing. There was absolutely no personality, or small talk with their customer base. We waited for our hero while finishing our slices, then after finishing our slices had to ask if it was ready. To where they replied "oh yes, it's right here" Strange that they didn't bring it out after knowing it was ready AND paid for. To top it off, I asked for a box for the leftover slice, we packed it up and went to the car. Upon eating it I found a hair baked into the cheese. Which I would have seen if they allowed customers to pick any table they wanted at lunch, but they put "slice customers" in the back with no good lighting. And by then we were too far to go back. I've been coming here for the past few years specifically for their paninis and they never miss! The turkey club paninis specifically are so fresh, flavorful and delicious, and last me at least two meals, making it a great value for the price. The restaurant itself is definitely more pizza-centric, and their pizza is good, but their other menu items are surprisingly good. I've dined in here a few times and it has also been a good experience. It's a busy pick-up pizzeria, so it definitely has that look and feel but their dining area is separate and cozy. The friendliness of the servers could definitely be improved but that's my only complaint! read more

Two issues: 1) I have never been to an Italian Restaurant where bread was not provided with an entree and 2) there were a few empty tables that needed to be cleaned and used dishes were piled on top of the garbage receptacle instead of having someone bus and clean the tables. Stopped by because I was early to an appointment that was in the area and I'd been eyeing them every time I drove by. I wasn't sure what to expect, if it was a sitdown type of place, or if you order at the counter and then pick your food up when your order is called. I still can't tell ya- it seems to be some mix between the two. I was feeling a little pasta with marinara, but once I saw their self-proclaimed famous penne vodka, I figured I'd give that a shot. Also ordered some garlic knots since I can never resist those at this sort of place. I ordered at the counter and sat down at a nearby table. The garlic knots were smaller, and came as an order of 6. I appreciate the smaller size, because I didn't have to worry about getting garlic on my face. They were soft and garlicky and tasted great. The penne vodka came out quickly. At first I thought it was okay- there was something else in there that they use, but I just could not identify it. The portion was a little smaller than expected. The taste grew on me, but I wouldn't say I loved it- although, the leftovers tasted great. It came with a piece of bread and butter, which I only had a little bit of, as I did not particularly prefer how they spiced it. I was also a little confused about tipping. I've always been told that you don't tip at a place where you order at the counter because they're not "waiting" on you, but I feel bad when the option is on the receipt. I tipped a few bucks, thinking I'd pick up my food and sit down and be done with it. But the guy was really friendly and kept coming over to check on me and bring me/offer me things. I wish I'd tipped more, but I didn't know I was going to get some sort of service as well. Kind of confusing. I'd come here again, but I think I'd try either the pizza or pasta with marinara sauce (my go-to). read more

Here goes one of my very infrequent one star reviews. I will try not to rant, but rather to keep this review as useful as possible to someone interested in ordering pizza from here. Their delivery service is not reliable. In my instance today, the pizza never came after an hour and forty five minute wait. This is despite the fact that my apartment building is located right behind their store. I never got my pizza. I had to argue with them to cancel the order at that point, but I don't want a cold one delivered to me close to 2 hours late. If they were in fact slammed, they could have just told me before I ordered. I don't recommend to order pizza delivery from here. read more

My wife and I just tried this place for the 1st time. We ordered a calzone with meatballs and a large Chicken Parmigiana Sub. We definitely got our moneys worth. The calzone crust was crisp not chewy. It was overflowing with meatballs, ricotta and mozzarella cheese. The sub had a lot of meat on it. The Chicken had a light, flavorful coating of breadcrumbs. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. It is located in a shopping center that is at the intersection of 2 major roadways. It is also very close to the Garden State Parkway. This time mom ordered a slice with chicken, arugula and balsamic glaze on it and there was a ransoms piece of cucumber on it which was not on any other specialty slice. Initially she had no idea what it was and got grossed out as was I. I glanced over for her to put it on a napkin and the napkin holder was absolutely filthy. The food had a good taste. I ordered the special Eggplant Fiorentina over pasta. The sauce was very tasty with fresh basil. . The eggplant was a little chewy. The spinach had garlic in it which was good, my only suggestion would be maybe use chopped spinach so you don't choke on the long leaves of spinach. Only one minor issue, the water from the sauce & pasta absorbed into the breading of the eggplant and made it a bit soggy. Overall the eggplant had a good flavor. My husband ordered the Brooklyn pizza. It had a good flavor with the fresh mozzarella & basil and garlic. The pie crust was a bit hard on the outside and soggy in the middle. If possible make the crust a bit thinner and bake that first a little bit and then put the toppings on and finish baking it the rest of the way. The pizza should take overall about 35 to 40 min. The food overall has good flavor. read more
