Had a nice Valentine's Day dinner with my wife, had an overall mixed experience 1. Food - appetizer of burrata and prosciutto was amazing, but lobster ravioli felt underwhelming and burrata chorizo was tiny, undercooked, and 30% crust. $25 for that pizza was rough 2. Service - William was great! We were the only table out on the patio and he was checking on us right between courses and we never felt forgotten. Unfortunately the manager felt it was necessary to berate him in front of us for being slow and not helping his tables. Meanwhile we watched said manager just hanging out at the bar with regulars while they were busy. 3. Shady practices - they want to charge a 3% fee for credit card charges, which according to California law is illegal for restaurants to do. They better be careful before somebody reports them. Overall, seems like the place has gone downhill in the quality department. They want to charge $35 for dishes that feel literally and figuratively half baked. read more

It doesn't get much more "homey" than this! After all, Mangia Mi occupies two former residential buildings and offers simple Italian homestyle dishes! There was plenty of outdoor seating in the patio as well as the back parking lot, making this a nice respite from the busyness of downtown Danville. We started our meal with two salads--first, the baby spinach & butternut squash salad was a simple mixture of spinach and arugula topped with thin slices of butternut squash, bacon, and sunflower seeds, all tossed in a light vinaigrette. But far more interesting was the heirloom tomato & burrata caprese salad, a refreshing mixture of chopped heirloom tomatoes, creamy burrata, little balls of ciliegine (mozzarella) cheese, all dressed in a chive pesto and herb oil, and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Nothing crazy, but the flavors of the tomato, cheese, and herbal dressing all melded together nicely! We continued our meal with three sides: roasted cauliflower with calabrian chili and herb oil, roasted broccoli with lemon juice and red pepper flake, and by far my favorite dish of all, the meatballs simmered in a San Marzano marinara sauce! The vegetables weren't all that special, but those little meatballs had an amazing dense texture and herbal aroma, and went perfectly with the thick, decadent, umami tomato sauce! Simply divine! The pasta con vongole was a simple, light pasta dish made of spaghetti topped with littleneck clams, all in a white wine, lemon, and garlic sauce, and topped with pecorino cheese. Not bad, though I thought the pasta could've been a little more al dente. And finally, we had the funghi pizza, topped with maitake, oyster, and crimini mushrooms, mozzarella, parmesan, caramelized onions, and truffle oil. Sounds like a great combination, but the execution was off--the crust was burnt around the edges, yet the dough was soggy in the middle--this one is definitely skippable.. Overall, there was nothing complicated or unusual about the dishes at Mangia Mi--this was just simple Italian cooking in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly service! And if there's one highlight from the menu, it has to be the meatballs in marinara sauce! read more

A cute looking little house with seating on the porch and L-shaped patio, and more modern little restaurant (and kitchen) behind it. So cute, it was my gf's and my choice for our first time in downtown Danville. That means, it stood out above all others, and it was good to take our pooch since we could sit nicely outside on the patio. However, we were put off by the lifeless hostess who clearly didn't like people and didn't want to be there. Then, we sat at our table without acknowledgement for at least 5-7 minutes, until another gal with water didn't say hello and just went with the task at hand. Finally, our server, was good but was 18 at best, and no fault of his, not mature. The food was remarkably good. We had the Lasagne di Carne [$21, 4.0 stars] -- a good portion, and very good Bolognese Sauce; Carni Suprema [$17, 4.5 stars] -- wonderful crust, but a little sparse with the toppings (Meatballs, Calabrese Sausage, Pepperoni) and a little small. Celebrated my wife's birthday with friends, had a great time. That said, the food definitely fell short. Had an appetizer of steamed clams, as well as the Burrata & Prosciutto. Both were tasty, but the prosciutto was sliced too thick IMO, which made it hard to bite through with the burrata on a crostini. Wife and I shared a beet salad, it was on point. I opted for the Lasagne di Carne, while tasty, I had to send it back because it was barely warmed through. Wife had the Gnocchi Gorgonzola, and these were not very good at all. Dense and doughy, not the little pillows of delight one expects from a proper gnocchi. It was also a bit too gorgonzola forward IMO, very heavy. Dessert was the Cannoli and Butter Cake, the cake was absolutely fantastic, definitely the highlight. All in all the service was good, and we really enjoyed our time with friends. Good flavor, fresh mushroom, good Italian sausage, served in a bowl with I assume the cooking liquid. Get some bread and soak that up! Meatballs: The best 5 Stars, get some! It my number 1 or 2 Salad: Bacon and Romaine Salad: 3 Stars. I'm no a fan of uncut romaine, they really should cut the salad for you. I substituted the gorgonzola for avocado, not a fan of blue. The rest of the salad was really good, great champagne dressing, good think cut bacon. To make this 4 or 5 stars, cut the romaine, add avocados, and toss the whole thing with a good amount of dressing. The artistic drizzle of dressing over the top does not work. Oh, keep the gorgonzola for those who like, but adding avocado just raises the level. The others in my party had the Beet Salad, they enjoyed it. I'm going to try next time Dinner: Chicken Marsala: 4 Stars. The dish was tender, thin cut chicken breast laid over mash potatoes with a good covering of Marsala wine sauce. The mash potatoes were perfectly smooth and seasoned. The Marsala wine sauce was not watered down, good strong favor, but it was a little thin. I think they don't add flour to the chicken to give the sauce a thicker consistency. And they didn't finish with butter, or add much garlic. Still really good, to make this 5 Stars, thicker sauce, add more garlic, finished with butter. And maybe some thyme The others had the carbonara, but as I have mentioned in my other reviews it really a bacon Alfredo. Still really good and I recommend as long as your not but expecting traditional carbonara. Dessert: Butter Cake: 4 Stars. Love the dessert! Great flavor both the cake and gelato. To make 5 Stars, improve the presentation, maybe add a sauce on the top, or the plate. The presentation is simply the butter cake on a plate with vanilla gelato on top of the cake. Stumbled upon this little gem in Danville while looking for some good Italian food. I have to say I didn't find good Italian food, I found great Italian food! The spaghetti and meatballs is delicious with a generous portion of meatballs. We've come three times now and each time the food is fresh, generous portions and truly mouth watering. We had a fantastic dinner at Mangia Mi. The food was great. We had a Burrata and Prosciutto appetizer and split a Insalata Mista, both were delicious. Our waiter was Andrea, he was attentive and helpful. For dinner I had the gnocchi and my husband had the salmon special. I loved all of it. The ambiance is nice. I like that they have a chef's bar that you can sit at as well. It was a hot day so we ate inside but they have tables outside that would be nice on a cooler evening. I can't believe that we haven't tried this place before. It's a winner. We will definitely go back. read more

Mangia Mi isn't bad, but it is a cut below some better options for Italian food in Danville. The food was the highlight. The appetizer and pizza we shared were very nice. Ambience was a bit of a letdown. Cottage is too brightly lit and acoustics not great. Definitely don't be seated by the bathroom if you can avoid it. We were not, but it would've been quite frustrating if we were. Service was the bigger letdown. Staff are quite friendly, but the service was very haphazard and spotty. Took 5+ minutes to be acknowledged when we arrived and there were long gaps in any attention when dining. My sense is they are very short of staff and current staff are doing the best they can. With better options in Danville, we will choose to go elsewhere next time for Italian food. read more

Came here for dinner last night with my family and had a good experience. I have come here a couple times prior but for some reason this place always slips my memory when choosing where to eat! The outdoor dining area is super cute so I would recommend sitting there if possible! As for parking, there is plenty on the back side of the restaurant if the main street is too crowded (most likely yes in Danville). For drinks my dad and brother went with beers..mom and I stuck with water. I don't think I have ever been so torn on what to get...they just had so many options!! I was leaning towards a pizza, then felt like pasta, then even considered lasagna :0. The bread came out instantly and honestly was some of the best table bread I have had. It was soft, warm, and paired with balsamic vinegar just how I like. For apps we ordered brussel sprouts and the beet salad. Originally the butternut squash salad sounded yummy, but upon reviewing yelp, I realized that it was not what I expected! Luckily the waiter happily subbed it out and we were so glad because the beet salad was the BOMB! The cheese + bacon was seriously to die for -- I could have eaten it for my entree! On the other hand, the brussels were terrible. I would not recommend anyone order these because they were undercooked and tasteless in my opinion. For dinner I went with the carbonara, mom ordered the gnocchi, dad got the short rib ravioli, and my brother got the lasagna. Everything came out super quick and was piping hot! We dug in and everyone enjoyed the meal. I personally felt my carbonara was on the sweet side + I was full from apps so didn't eat much of my food! We went on a very rainy day, party of 3. It was our very first time at Mangia Mi. We entered in the wrong entrance and was directed! I think the front which is on Hartz is actually the back lol. Came her first Easter Brunch and no big surprise they hit it out of the park with the brunch items. Biscuits and gravy was by far one of the best gravy's I've had anywhere in the area. My eggs Benedict with the pesto hollandaise was delicious. The burrata with the prosciutto was a perfect way to start them meal. The pineapple cocktail was the perfect brunch cocktail as I wasn't in the mood for a Bloody Mary ( others had those and said they were just ok but that was the only this just ok everything else was on point) glad they are planing on having weekend brunch more often this will for sure become a new favorite. read more

Our family of four with my two adult sons, one who is a doctor for the VA were getting together after several months, and it was also my wife's birthday and so the occasion was special. She picked the place and we arrived there at around 6:30 PM. In short, the food was good, but not great. The lack of welcome/warmth from the staff took away points. Our server/manager - Stephanie M - was brusque and not very friendly. The other wait staff however, made up for her lack of cordiality and went out of their way to be friendly. In the open kitchen layout, we observed Stephanie having words with the Chef, and he appeared annoyed/irritated by her comments and showed it in his facial expression. Happy cook happy food! Stephanie took our order. We ordered Bruschetta for the appetizer but got steamed clams instead. I let it go, given Stephanie's frosty demeanor. We also ordered the Portabella and a bottle of Chardonay. For dinner we had the Marsala, Scampi, Jambalaya and Carni Suprema - overall the food was OK, but nothing to write home about. We figured that since this was Danville, the food would be better than say at Macaroni Grill, but not by much. At least the staff at MG are a lot friendlier and welcoming. I would not return to this restaurant. This review is based on service. I will start by saying I worked in restaurants for years and understand when staff is in the weeds and slammed. I am very understanding of the struggles of running a business and working for a small business. The staff disregarded our table and never brought our food. We tried several times to flag down staff. They served tables with guests with light complexions...taking orders, and bringing food. My family is quiet and didn't make a scene. We were hungry and patiently waiting. We were disappointed to not try the food and to wait for an hour. The staff and management never acknowledged we were not served our food or try to rectify the situation at any point. An appropriate course of action would be to at least state we are unable to fulfill your orders so we could have at least left. I do not want a refund or an apology. All I'd like is for the management to take an opportunity to find ways to do better. read more

Yea, this place isn't for me anymore. I used to frequent the Pleasanton location with my wife and I seem to remember enjoying my meals there, but this time around I didn't find much enjoyment. To begin with, service was inconsistent. While some waitstaff were nice, others seemed fed up with customers. And while our waitress was friendly and willing to adjust menu items, we found that things like a glass of wine just took forever. Maybe, I'm biased because I have a baby now, so every minute waiting on something seems like an eternity. Also, while I appreciate that the staff wanted to accommodate us right away with a table, with a baby, we definitely need a 4-top. I literally spent half the meal holding onto the bread basket because there was no room on our table. With regard to the food. Everything we had was just fine, but I wouldn't say I particularly loved the house salad, roasted cauliflower or spaghetti and meatballs. We asked if the kitchen could substitute penne for our main which they did, but I realize, both our and our daughter's kid plate of pasta were over cooked and breaking apart. We got the butter cake for dessert and have to say...it didn't really taste like anything. The cake itself seemed like it might have been overcooked or it had been made much earlier in the day and spent too long in the fridge? I don't know what the issue was, but it was quite hard. Overall I'm pretty disappointed. Three stars for the effort, but I won't be back. read more

My mom's a bit tired of Italian restaurants lately, so needless to say it was high praise when she called dinner at Mangia Mi one of her happiest times this past December. This cozy and elegant Italian bistro is located in Downtown Danville, so you'll have to finagle a bit for street parking, but it's well worth it. Finding the entrance was a little bit confusing since the street-side entrance to their expanded bar area was closed for a private party, but we soon found our way inside and were nearly charmed off our feet by the holiday decorations. We had a reservation for four and were seated right away at one of the tables along the long, plush bench. Said bench was laden with themed pillows that I wanted to build a nest out of but out of propriety did not. Our server was really friendly and took our orders down by memory. The menus are dated by month, but we were given an old one by accident and could only spot a few small changes to the options. The tables are set pretty close together so it's easy to sneak a peek at whatever everyone else is eating before deciding yourself what to get, but it turned out that all the entrees we ordered on a whim was delicious anyway. We started off with some complimentary bread, Tomato Basil Zuppa (soup), and Bruschetta. Surprisingly, neither the bread nor the Bruschetta were very delightful (the Bruschetta in particular was very tough to chew), but soon we were dipping everything into the soup because it was just so GOOD. We shared the Wine-Braised Pork Gnocchi, Pasta con Vongole (spaghetti with clams), and Spicy Pesto and Bacon Pizza. We put everything away like we meant business. Spaghetti with clams was our go-to dish when we traveled in Italy, and while nothing stateside has really come close, you can certainly taste the clam broth throughout the noodles. The Gnocchi were pillowy and delicious with the barely-there sweetness of the wine sauce, and of course, who can say no to the comfort of bacon and pizza? The busboy seemed a little surprised when he came to clear all our completely empty dishes, yet we still had the audacity to ask for a dessert menu. We went with an old favorite, a huge slice of Tiramisu, and something I introduced to my family, Affogato. Since my brother and father aren't huge dessert fans, these balanced the line neatly between succulent treat and overwhelming sweetness. One-third a bottle of wine was anxious to leave my body and I found the bathroom behind a heavy curtain at the end of the bistro counter. The patrons at the table sitting next to us were not so anxious to leave Mangia Mi - they were mid-meal when we arrived, and looked far from finishing their conversation by the time we left. Mangia Mi is a hidden gem. I wanted Italian food with a quaint atmosphere. There are two sections of this restaurant and I was in the building towards the back. Bruschetta has a balsamic drizzle that is so tart and tangy. I wanted more. Complimentary bread is served. After, I ordered the crab ravioli with pesto sauce and their well known gnocchi. The gnocchi consistency is soft and buttery. The taste at first is very pungent because of the Gorgonzola cream sauce. It isn't a Parmesan cream sauce like other restaurants have. Be very clear about what you are ordering because the wait staff doesn't write items down. We did receive and incorrect dish, but they were prompt to swap it out. I appreciate that they gave us a complimentary sweet bite afterwards. My girlfriend loved celebrating her birthday here! read more

Staff is consistency RUDE here. I have been here a few times and have always had a poor experience. I just spoke with an incredibly rude staff member on the phone. I called to make a reservation and inquired if they are open early this Friday because per google it says they are opening at 4pm this week. I called and made a reservation at 4:00pm. However, the confirmation I got was for 5pm. I called back to confirm the time and I was met with an incredibly hostile woman over the phone. I wish I had gotten her name. I told her that the other staff member told me it was 4PM. She talked right over me and gave such rude attitude. So bad I just hung up the phone. They just lost my business and the business of the group I was hoping to bring. Ill gladly be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Delicious doesn't even begin to describe this place. We actually ordered for pickup and usually food from restaurants doesn't seem to be quite as good when we eat at home but not Mangia Mi! We ordered Short rib ravioli and the corn and asparagus risotto. It was so so good. I asked for extra cheese on my Ravioli and I wasn't sure if it was going to happen because there's no option to pay for it but they did not disappoint. This place is situated at rhe heart of downtown Danville. It had a veey vibrant feel to drive into the area on a Friday night. It took us a while to find parking, but only because we didn't know there was a parking area just outside of the establishment. It was a unique setting to have the main entrance at the 2nd house behind the one facing Hartz. Given the high rating of the establishment, I expected to wait for a table on a Friday night. We were welcomed by a very friendly hostess and were asked to wait for a table. There was space by the bar, but we had to two little kids, so opted to wait. Instead of a 20min wait, we only waited for 10mins, since there was a table for 4 that opened up. Our two kids (4yrs old & 6 yrs old) were excited to go through the Bambini (12yrs and under) menu. They were debating whether to go with pizza or pasta. For $9 kid's dishes, they're worth it. They xome in big servings. The Bambini Pepperoni Pizza was just as big as the adult pizza. We started with the complimentary bread and olive oil dip. The bread was exceptional. We loved the soft texture of the bread from the inside and crunchy (but not hard) consistency on the outside. The biggest bonus: it was served warm and yoy can have seconds! We tried the Funghi pizza and the Pasta Vongole. We knew when the Funghi pizza because of the fragrant smell of the truffle oil. Our pizza came in a thin crust and was topped with 3 linds of mushroom. It was very good. We finished the entire pizza along with the pasta. The Pasta Vongole was very pleasant. The pasta came al dente and was in a lighly seasoned sauce with a good serving of clams. For dessert, we opted for the Sampler Platter $15. It came with a choice of Tiramisu or Lava cake, a gelato ice cream, and cannoli. It says two cannoli, but it looked like one cannoli sliced into two. My boys (hubby and son) loved the tiramisu. We just tried the Gelato, it was ok. The cannoli had a ring of chocolate and pistachio nuts at the tip and filled with a lighly sweetened cream. I liked it, but I am not a big fan. The service was superb! This place is a muat visit. But I recommend making reservations to minimize the wait time. read more
