My husband and I went for dinner on a Friday night. 45 mins after ordering, our server came over to let us know she checked in with the kitchen and that it would be 45 mins longer before we would be served (chicken parm and a salad). We were shocked to hear that we had to wait an hour and a half for such a small order with a full restaurant. We asked to speak to a manager and the owner came over to say a chef hadn't showed up so they were short staffed, that all customers were told before being seated. My husband explained that we hadn't been told that and that I'm pregnant and need to eat! She kindly sent over a charcuterie board and our food came out a few mins later. We were so pleased with the food that we went back two nights later for take out dessert. It was delicious. A few nights later, excited, our last night in Sitka for now, we ordered appetizers and I got the chicken parm again (after boasting it was the best I had ever had) and my husband got the rack of lamb. The server/bartender who took our order came over and said "chef says we don't have chicken parm." Huh? It's on the top right side of the menu. I pointed at it. "It's his first day. He's an idiot." I raised my eyebrows at my husband and asked if I should change my order. We received our apps. $25 fried calamari without tentacles (my husband was so sad) and he had to go to the bar to ask for lemons. The $25 meatballs were alright but we didn't choose to splurge for $6 bread so it was kind of awkward with all that left behind sauce. Don't trust an Italian restaurant that doesn't offer complimentary bread service. Our entrees came out not too long after and to my surprise, the chicken was so salty, I couldn't eat it. I had been bragging about it for days and wow, I couldn't have been more disappointed. It literally tasted like the chicken was dredged in salt. My husband's lamb tasted like it was dripping with sweet baby ray's bbq sauce and I wish he got more than half an ice cream scoop (literally) of mashed potatoes because that was the only thing that soothed my salty tongue. I actually developed a little blister on my tongue! The manager said the owner was working at the pub when we asked for her. My husband asked if she owned it also and he responded, "her husband owns it." We tried to relay our experience and he just wasn't having it. He didn't even care that the bartender's black shirt was covered in dandruff (so gross!) and that he hadn't been to our table since we ordered. We will never go to Mangiare again. The service is absolutely horrible and the food is inconsistent and sorely over priced. Sounds like they have a problem keeping the restaurant staffed. Save your money and go somewhere else! read more
