    Spicy cheese balls
    Carol D.

Mango Mikes gets a bad rap. You just need to know what to order. The spicy cheese balls are awesome. We also had Chicken nachos. The nachos were missing tomatoes but Amanda hustled up stairs to get us some. She was hustling to serve everyone too. They are short staffed. Great service. We stay on the island. A great place to stop for a quick meal.

Mango mocktail, yes, something for us sober folks!

Really nice place. The prices were reasonable, the portions were a decent size, and the vibe was chill. Great service from a friendly waitress. Everywhere else was so crowded but we had no wait time here!

    Beef nachos

We were there last night and got the beef nachos and they were not good at all! The cheese tasted like cheeze wiz and the beef looked like cat poop! There was a small child, maybe 8-10, waiting on tables. At one point I saw her carrying a pitcher of beer to a table.

We were so impressed that we recommended this place to multiple people and were genuinely excited to come back last Sunday. Unfortunately, this visit was a complete disappointment from start to finish. The service was noticeably worse, the beer selection was extremely limited compared to before, and the food was honestly some of the worst seafood we've had in years. We ordered the fried calamari and the mixed grilled seafood plate. The calamari was chewy, flavorless, and the batter had an unpleasant texture. The mixed seafood plate was even worse - the oysters looked, smelled, and tasted awful, and the fish, shrimp, stuffed crab and scallops were completely bland. Even the fried okra, which should be an easy Southern staple, was disappointing. We left wondering if they changed chefs or management because the difference from our first experience was shocking. Even my mom, who is far from a picky eater, could barely eat her food. It's genuinely upsetting because this used to be a place we loved and enthusiastically recommended to others. Sadly, after this experience, we won't be returning.

The exterior is rustic but exactly what it should be on The Forgotten Coast. Very similar to outdoor, or quasi outdoor, restaurants in the larger area. Pull right up, there's unpaved parking all around. Inside is clean but can be a little tacky to the touch from the open windows and ceiling fans churning in the Florida humidity. The business is right on the bay so you get a little breeze, I suppose. Remember, this is the old Florida, the real Florida. If you're expecting frigid AC and hospital cleanliness inside then this isn't the larger area for you - head to Panama City Beach or commercialized Florida. Trust me, I love some ice cold AC, but that's not why you come to the Forgotten Coast. The inside has bar seating and tables. There was a comic performing out back closer to the water and a small crowd in chairs but we remained inside as we were a little tired from our day of travel. The bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful without hovering. The beer was good but I liked the beers at Water Craft Brewery in Apalachicola just a little better. But HELLO NURSE we then ordered the handmade, hand-tossed pizza. It was great! I usually am not a pizza crust aficionado but the crust is sooo tasty! Needless to say the toppings and sauce made the pizza a big wow! Sorry, no photo, I lost my mind in the flavor! If you're in the area for a weekend, or more, I really do recommend this very good local, real-Florida, independent tap room and brewery.

And I think this might be our favorite of the week. Definitely off the grid and what you might call a hole in the wall, looks like a local's favorite as well. No dress code, hardly any Wi-Fi, all the waitresses were extremely friendly and very casual with every customer. Everything we ordered was really great. Entrées were not fast to come out, but that's OK too. Went on a Wednesday night about 530. By the time we left at seven there was standing room only on the walkway into the restaurant. Apparently, they are also known for their pies and our regret that we didn't grab one to go. We'll be back!
