So I came in with a referral for Dr. Panah from a friend and she's right in saying he's probably the best dentist in the South Bay. I was supposed to have an extraction but thankfully Panah's trying to save them and ran more tests. Fingers crossed it's referred pain. During the procedure, he made sure the anesthetic was working before proceeding with plenty of time for it to do its thing. There's a lot of tech in the office too. The isoline thing is like this snorkel that keeps your mouth open and tongue away while providing suction. And they have this camera thing to show you what they're working on. Panah uses it to explain each step of the procedure before he does it. Very, very cool. (They also have an automated ceramic milling machine for faster crowns!) The only issue you might have is the price. My previous root canal and crown cost around 2.5k; a cheaper place costs about 2k. This place is going to set me back about 4k. But I think it's money well spent. Office people were nice. The techs and assistants were superb and friendly too. If you want your teeth properly done, this is the place to be. read more

Dr. Panah makes a dental visit easy and as comforting as it can be. I don't know anyone that likes dental work and I am no different, but the care Dr. Panah gives is exceptional. The staff is amazing! Friendly, courteous and the ease of checking in and making light conversation makes a difference of what service is supposed to be like. Evelina suggested this office to me and my family and we have not been disappointed. One of my favorite things about this team is their yearly charity event that offers specific services for free to the public while the entire staff volunteers their time on their day off. Dental care isn't cheap. Staffing for a dental office isn't cheap. Dental equipment isn't cheap. Dentists aren't cheap. Nice place, friendly, comfortable. root canal and fancy inlay was ~$4500. Failed in 8 months. Panah denied any responsibility, gave no explanation. He charged me $1000 (vs $300 elsewhere) to pull it. 15 minute job. I called in the morning and explained I had a cracked dental work. They made me wait all day and come in late evening after everyone had left the office. Just Panah and one assistant. when I showed him the botched tooth, he inserted his tool and twisted off a fragment, cracked it wide open forcing me to have the extraction done immediately, also giving Panah opportunity to remove/destroy evidence of shoddy work. He wasn't surprised or uncomfortable or apologetic. Just part of his business. At the time, I inquired about taking responsibility, was denied. Not much you can say at 5pm when you need immediate medical attention. Nice guy. I really really liked him. Thought we were kind of buds. But when it came down to it...no love at all. I knew the place was expensive, but I thought I was getting some super high tech latest innovation dental work. After doing reading on the procedure I received it is inherently prone to failure. Wish that had been explained to me. I would have opted for the traditional crown instead of the fancy expensive inlay. read more

Let me start with the positives about this place: It's clean, they have new equipment, and the facilities overall are pretty nice. The staff is cordial and friendly. The dentist I met with was also cordial and friendly. One of my fillings fell out of a molar, and I came in to have it looked it. Since Dr. Panah was not available for several weeks (he splits his time between this and another facility) I was handed off to a dentist who had only been working there a couple of days. In spite of his short time there, he seemed knowledgeable and was friendly. He ran x-rays and did a "comprehensive examination" in which he visually inspected each of my teeth and took pictures of a couple to show me. He told me that I needed to either have a crown put on the tooth, or that I could be conservative and put in a Cerec Inlay. He also believed that I might need a root canal. He also recommended that I get all of the other amalgam (metal) fillings in my mouth replaced with inlays, because "metal fillings will expand over time, damage my teeth, and cause decay." It all sounded reasonable enough for me... until they gave me an estimate. Apparently, this inlay would cost me $1,400 dollars, not including the potential root canal. Since my insurance would only cover $331 for an inlay, I would have to pay $969 out of pocket. They told me that if I did the root canal as well, this would exhaust my insurance for the year, and I would have to pay out of pocket to fill another small cavity, which would cost me $780 out of pocket. This sounded fishy to me, so I called a very trusted dentist of mine (graduated top of her class from UCLA dental school and runs her own practice in Monrovia). I would have went to her from the start, if she wasn't an hour away, and if this place wasn't down the street. When I read the estimate off to her, she nearly fell out of her chair. She said that a Cerec inlay shouldn't cost more than $300-400 and that's why the insurance would only be willing to pay that much for it. And based on the description I gave her of the problem, she didn't think it was necessary. She also thought that it was ridiculous that they wanted to pull a filling out that I had only put in a few months ago, to replace it with yet another super expensive Cerec inlay. Finally she thought the quoted price to fill the tiny cavity on my rear molar was also extremely high. I decided to make the long drive and go in to see her. She told me that the hole left behind by the filling that fell out was tiny, that a vast majority of the tooth structure was still in place, and that a crown or an inlay were both extreme and unnecessary. When I called in to cancel my appointment with them to do the inlay, they didn't even ask me why, or try to retain me at all! It's as if they knew they were ripping me off and I caught on. "Damn, another one caught on, guess he's lost for good." It has since been several months, and no one has called to follow up. I ended up getting the work done with my trusted dentist in Monrovia. She filled the tooth for under $200 and it was covered completely by my insurance. She also drilled and filled my other cavity (also covered 100%) for about the same cost, and she pulled a wisdom tooth that was about to grow into the gum below it and it cost me about $150 (also 100% covered by insurance. On top of that she threw in free whitening trays (formed to my teeth), and an unlimited lifetime supply of whitening, and replacement trays - all completely free. Bottom line - Steer clear unless you want to have more than your teeth gouged. Nuff said. read more

Like many reviewers on here (well, you have to look at the filtered reviews), I went here because it was close to my house and it looked nice enough. However, like everyone else, I am not returning. My main reason? The hygienist here must practice some cruel form of torture because I have never EVER left a dentist with my gums in so much pain. They were bleeding, extremely red and throughout the entire cleaning, I kept flinching because she was causing me pain. She wasn't doing a root canal... This was a routine cleaning. I went to the same dentist for 23 years back in my hometown before moving to L.A. and not once did I ever leave the office with my gums red, bleeding and in pain. I will also say my girlfriend went here and her experience is dead on with the other reviewers who said the dentist tried to way overcharge for things and suggest procedures that she did not actually need. I have been seeing Dr Panah for pain in a molar with an existing crown and root canal from 30 plus years ago. Once the infection was reduced with antibiotics, Dr Panah carefully removed the old crown and is working on filling adjacent cavities and replacing old crown with a new and better fitting model. Dr Panah is very sincere and I trust the work he is doing. His staff are extremely accommodating and friendly as well. I really want to like this dentist but every single time I go there I feel swindled. They do an excellent job, but it seems like they overcharge my insurance company and try to get me to pay as much as possible as well. I still go to them because of the quality, but I would suggest being very careful about what they charge you. Be careful! The doctors and the receptionists are all very nice. I purchased a cleaning via Living Social for another Manhattan Beach Dentist and although my x-rays were fine they suggested that I get my old fillings redone and a night guard - costing over $1500!! Not having dental insurance I was just going to get one tooth redone because I currently don't have that sort of cash just laying around. Two days later I heard about Dental Esthetics doing a community program so I went, and I was soooo glad that I did because I found my new dentist! First off, for a dental office to give back to the community and help others in need is just heartwarming. They helped over 120 people that day, me being one of them. In talking with the dentist, they were very honest with me about what NEEDED to be done, what was preventative and what wasn't even necessary. Honest and Trustworthy. The procedure was super fast and basically painless...just a tiny pinch from the novocaine shot and that was it. I wasn't even sore later and my new filling is smooth and amazing!! On top of it, they said to schedule a time after the new year and since I came to this event they would work with me so that I could afford to have the other services done. I mean REALLY?? I was so touched that I started to cry. Even thanking people when I left I had to work to hold back the tears. I rarely review anything, but financially want to warn and make others aware of their sketchy billing. I have spent thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars with Dr. Panah, and always thought the world of him. Over a decade of dental work, implants, root canals, it's an embarrassing amount. He even gifted me a teeth whitening tray for my wedding... which I was fitted for and never received. Oh well. No biggie. Felt too awkward to ask. I have dental insurance with new husband, but Dr. Panah isn't in network. Still I chose to stay and be loyal. I thought he was good. Everything got more expensive. Okay fine. I kept owing money when I'd come in for a cleaning. Then I had work done and decided to pay in full so I didn't owe anything for my next visit. But this time I never got the check from my insurance company. They sent it to the office. Great, I should have a credit! Nope. Not only no credit but I owed more??? I was confused they said oh I owed from something awhile back, but didn't say what. I waited for more detail from her, but none was given as she just moved on to charging my card. I emailed asking for records on what I owed and paid for to no response. Then I received a text that I had another balance of $216?! So I have now paid in full (again but who knows?!) When I asked she said they were "curtesy billing before Covid and don't do that any more"... huh? So she's telling me they were doing me favors(?) as if I'm being rude in asking why I owe money. Seems a really odd choice to keep a few hundred dollars, over-charge/add late fees for a cleaning (that was the $216) and run off a client whose gone into debt to keep seeing Dr. Panah. The new people working the front have definitely changed the whole vibe of the office. I've now found a new dentist that is just as great, and isn't billing me financially into the ground. I've been a patient/client of Dr. Arash Panah's since 2006, so this review is based on 6 years of experience thus far. Top 3 reasons as to why this is the THE ONLY Dentist I go to: 1. Level of Expertise. Dr. Panah is just an outstanding dentist who does excellent work. He graduated from USC Dental School! That, in and of it by itself carries a lot of weight; And then you learn that Dr. Panah graduated 1st in his class out of 127 people. That's a far cry from some guy posting a plaque from obscure schools that make taking online classes at University of Phoenix seem respectable. Granted, this may not always translate into competence, but after talking to Dr. Panah about 10 minutes regarding your teeth, you'll come to realize he knows what he is talking about. After watching him personally design your new crown on the computer right in front of you, you'll come to believe it. 2. State of the art equipment: If you hired the best Hollywood set designers to build an ideal dental office of the future, it'd look something like Dr. Panah's office. Flat screen TVs that will keep you entertained in each room are instantly converted into monitors where Dr. Panah will show you digital X-rays of what he is doing, while taking close up photos with fiber optic cameras. That's another thing: Maybe like me, the nerd in you also enjoys knowing what exactly he is doing. For the past 6 years, Dr. Panah has been really excellent about giving me detailed scientific explanations of what he is doing, and why is he doing it. 3. Friendly Doctor & office staff. Every single person in the office, including Dr. Panah, are gregarious, friendly, and personable. I really don't want some pompous doc putting pricks in my mouth without explanation. And I'd presume the the last thing you want after getting your teeth drilled is a rude employee throwing condescending remarks at ya. Fair Balance: This office is a bit more expensive than some of the other offices you might go to. Then again, you want the best dentist, maybe you have to pay a little more. I have previously done the cheaper route. Most recently, I've had to have root canals that another dentist had done years ago "Retreated." I then to pay for new crowns on those teeth. The way I see it, you save 1000s of Dollars in the long run by paying a few extra hundred bucks now. Final Verdict: 5 Stars At Dental Esthetics, you know you're getting someone who is the best at what he does with Dr. Panah. Oh yeah, and completely unrelated, he loves talking about the Lakers so that's just a personal benefit for me. He is very personable as mentioned. Pay him a visit, even if you're a Celtics fan. I purchased a teeth cleaning on Groupon and very happy that I did. I was being honest with them that I am not from California and that I am flying back to Virginia soon and will not be able to use this Groupon before it expired, the receptionist was very sweet to squeeze me the following week. *The receptionists are all very sweet and nice. *The doctor appear to be caring and knowledgeable. *My oral hygienic is very sweet and nice also but her cleaning skill wasn't too superior. If she can be a bit more detail in cleaning and actually giving me a cup of mouth wash for me to rinse instead of saying we are done and said I can go check out with a lot of yucky stuff in my mouth ^_^ would be great. I end up having to ask her and she said I can do that in the restroom if I like. I think she is new to this but her customer service is great. Bottom Line: I definitely would come back here again as I do travel here a lot and planning on moving to the area anyway. Dr. Panah is the best in the business! I don't live in the area but I will travel without hesitation to visit his office. My last major work was getting all 4 wisdom teeth extracted. Dr. Panah recommended I get them all done at once so that I don't have to deal with the anxiety and recovery on multiple visits. But it was completely my choice. I decided to do all four and was scared to death! I don't like sedatives and had opted out of the "laughing gas". However, the day of the procedure, Dr. Panah had the gas on standby for me. His staff was great, checking on me to make sure I was calm. But I was so nervous that I opted for the gas and they were all extremely patient with me. My fear was that the numbing medicine wouldn't take and I would feel pain. However, he made sure that it settled in and checked on me at least twice before starting the procedure. Once he did the extractions, I couldn't believe how quick and painless it was. I ended up feeling silly about being so nervous. Dr. Panah is patient, explains everything thoroughly, and makes sure you are comfortable. He also doesn't rush through anything which is very important. I really feel like a valued client and I appreciate him and his entire staff. They are all very kind and professional. And the office is beautiful! read more

I have been extremely happy with this dentist's office. I found this dentist after coming from Hermosa Smiles Dentistry, where I had my first terrible dentist experience and felt like the dentist was a slick salesman. Going to Manhattan Beach Dental Esthetics was such a relief and a refreshing change. Every single employee, from the front desk staff to the hygienists to the dentist, has been so friendly, down to earth, professional and knowledgeable. I have been taught better techniques for cleaning my teeth. And very importantly, I have NEVER felt as though they were trying to up-sale me. During my last visit I was pregnant and Dr. La Pham was so gentle and considerate of my needing to take breaks and change positions. They even brought me a pillow. She said that she has brushed peoples' teeth standing up if necessary. I was so impressed to hear that they go to the homes of home-bound people to provide dentistry. Unfortunately MBDE is stopping taking HMO's. I like them so much I'm going to look at going on a PPO plan so my family can continue coming here. read more

Dr. Panah and the whole Manhattan Beach Dental team are so unbelievably kind and helpful! Groupon brought me here but their amazing service is what keeps me coming back...and believe me, they see me here a lot! Dr. Panah easily fixed what I thought was permanent pain i've been dealing with for the last year or two. Yes, it was quite a hefty bill, but a long term, 30 years + solution with a 5 year guarantee and payment options if you prefer. And guess what, no pain! He is skilled to make even the deepest of fillings feel like a walk in the park, and I know my fillings...definitely know my fillings! I feel very taken care of here at Dr. Panah's and I definitely appreciate how informed their whole staff is. To think, this whole time I was flossing ineffectively...no wonder I kept coming back with cavities! They don't assume you know everything about your teeth, so they take the extra time to make sure you understand what is going on on both ends, yours and theirs. I randomly choose Dr. Panah's practice because of its location and figured I would take a chance. It's a decision that I will never regret. I've had multiple treatments there from a root canal with a crown on my front tooth to ceramic onlays. No one can even tell my tooth had work done on it. Out of this world service and attention to details. We have been patients of Dr. Panah and Dr. Askari for years. Today my wife popped off an old metal crown while on vacation. We called them and they stayed on the phone with us until we purchased the temp adhesive and popped it back in. I have not seen this kind of service and care anywhere else. We were walked through the whole process from cleaning the crown to applying the adhesive and putting the crown back in. They even "face timed" with us to make sure things were right. I can't believe I was seeing other dentists before. My husband started to seeing Dr. Panah for a dental emergency and loved him. Then I recently had a root canal done by him. All I am going to say is, I was falling asleep during my root canal procedure! Dr. Panah is the most professional, gentle and caring dentist I've ever seen. His assistants are also great. You don't wait for your appointment, he's always on time. They don't try to sell you anything or push for expensive cleanings. The office is a state of art facility. I went to this location but was charged to Redondo Beach Dental Arts. Although the service was fine and staff were friendly at the time of my visit, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. I specifically asked them if my basic cleaning would be covered through my insurance, they said yes so I proceeded to get a basic cleaning. I thought the out of pocket expenses were very expensive and told them I could not afford their recommended services. So I proceeded to get dental work elsewhere. Fast forward over a year later(14 months). I get a bill for the same cleaning that they had said was covered and won't cost me anything. Not even a courtesy phone call just a bill which included another patient's insurance information. I'm pretty sure that's a big HIPAA violation and plan to inform the proper channels. On principle and professionalism, I'd say avoid this place as it looks like I'm not the only one this has happened to and probably won't be the last. read more

I came to this dentist at the recommendation of a friend, because I was new to LA and needed a dentist I can trust here in LA. I drove from the SF Valley alllll the way down to south bay. It was a waste of gas. I was symptomatic and needed immediate dental care, so I didn't have much choice by the time I found myself in their chair. I needed a root canal, and also have a bunch of other composite fillings that are somewhat-old. The husband of this husband-wife team is EXTREMELY aggressive in his treatment recommendations, and told me that every single one of my aging fillings had decay under them and each of them were beyond the point of repair with another composite filling - I would need inlay/onlay for EACH of them. That would set me back roughly $1k for EACH tooth. Did I mention that is WITH insurance? Like I said, I needed the work done immediately. For the one tooth I had work done at this place this is what happened. Major shadiness ahead. He told me I needed a root canal, and also a CROWN because there was the decay was so great under the composite filling. He did the work for the root canal, and told me that in addition to the crown that I would also need a special laser treatment on the gums to "make room" for the crown. I didn't have the money to spend on this special extra treatment, but he told me I needed it and it wasn't exactly optional. He already had my tooth opened up, so I wasn't sure what to do. By chance I had to change my appointment, and ended coming back in a few days early and FORTUNATELY for me I saw the wife of this husband-wife team. She seemed slightly less grimy than the husband (I don't recommend the ENTIRE practice) and told me that I didn't need a crown - and didn't need the laser treatment either. She could finish the treatment that day, with an inlay/onlay that would be produced on site. It would be several hundred dollars cheaper than what the husband was recommending............... but that STILL the REST of my mouth was going to need inlay/onlay to repair the aging composite fillings. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ cha-ching!!!! I don't think so. Earlier today I had to randomly pick a dentist in my zip code, to fix my lower retainer, and I got lucky. She looked at my X-rays and told me that A) The work done at this practice (she didn't know who it was) was very blah. That the inlay lacked "Character" (her words) and that if someone told me that I needed inlay/onlays to fix the rest of my fillings they were RIPPING me off. I AGREE. Now I can fix my entire mouth for $570 in conjunction with my insurance, where this place wanted roughly $1k per TOOTH. If you have money to throw away, sure, go see them. They can certainly help you out with that. Or I also have a paypal if you REALLY like throwing money away - LOL!!!! read more

I had to have 3 wisdom teeth removed last week and I was a positively petrified to have it done. He prescribed 2 Valium for me to take just prior to the procedure to put me at ease. He removed all 3 wisdom teeth in about 10 minutes and I was absolutely astounded with how quick and simple it was. The pain was minimal after the local anesthetic wore off, and I woke up with ZERO pain and swelling the next day! I was truly giddy and amazed! And I'm so relieved that I finally addressed this dental issue as I should have years ago. read more

I can't believe how much time I spent going to other dentists. Dr. Panah is always so calm and collected, and really treats you like a friend or family member rather than a client. I can't begin to thank him for all he's done for me. Especially the last time I visited him, he noted an abrasion in my mouth that I had told him was a recurring thing from my childhood. As every other dentist in the past had brushed this off, Dr. Panah persisted, he insisted I go to an oral surgeon that he referred me to, and it turned out that this minor issue I've had since childhood, which I thought was totally harmless, could be a bigger deal than I thought. I am still in the process and the details would probably bore most people, but I just have to thank Dr. Panah for his persistence and care in pushing me to take care of this, as it is something that could have developed far worse, without proper attention. I live in Orange County but decided to drive all the way to Manhattan Beach to see Dr. Panah. My friends kept telling me I should see this dentist in Manhattan Beach whenever I would complain to them about what a horrible job my previous dentist did on my crown. I was immediately impressed when I walked through the front door. Nice décor, state of the art equipment, and a very friendly staff Dr. Panah explained to me in detail what the best course of action was. He gave me some options, but he steered me to go with the most cost effective method based on my dental history. He is very honest and trustworthy, he was able to save my tooth. Now it's as good as new and it didn't break the bank. Dr. Panah is hands down the best dentist I've seen. The only negative experience here was the long drive back home in traffic. Despite the distance I will now make Dr. Panah my permanent dentist. read more
