Used to be terrific, but the new management recently discontinued the Manhattan storage taxi service (free moving van by appointment) which made it possible for people without a car in the city to move things back and forth. UPDATE: after I posted this review, Manhattan Mini Storage called to clear things up. They apologized for the whole thing and offered my a very nice compensation. I am super pleased with the whole situation and am happy to be keeping my storage unit at Manhattan Mini Storage. Great company! Very nice staff BUT why didn't someone say up front, "Oh, you should realize that that unit is high off the ground, you'll have to use the stairs on wheels to access it and it will be very tricky to try to reach stuff in the back of the unit." I get that those are the cheapest ones but the customer should be able to know that upfront so that she can decide if it's worth it. Very uncool to say, "oh now that you're here and only now learning that you'll have to carry your heavy boxes up those stairs on wheels and sort of jump/crawl in to reach your stuff in the back, NOW we'll tell you how much more money the ones closer to the ground are." read more

First the good: my facility is a clean, well lit place. The staff are pretty reliably pleasant and helpful, and I'm generally comfortable with the level of security, except on certain days when there is inexplicably no staff present for what seems like hours. I've been with MMS for a very long time. Over the years they have moved from a reasonable annual fee increase of 5% to a now insane and unjustifiable 15-20%. That type of increase just isn't sustainable for me. But MMS pretty much owns the storage business in Manhattan, so options are very limited and scant competition doesn't encourage them to price fairly. Some of the higher floors in my facility are dangerously hot all summer long and pretty much unusable to me. Other floors are moderately cooled so they are tolerable. When I asked about cooling the hottest floors, I got a nasty response by the facility's boss claiming that the entire facility was unairconditioned--which is a bizarre lie to tell considering the company advertises one of the floors as fully air conditioned year round--and that I should move to a different facility and pay more if I wasn't satisfied. The thermostats on that floor read in the mid to high 80s, and the windows are all sealed so it's too often like an oven, and dangerous, IMO. I do normally expect when I've been with a company for two decades and spend thousands of dollars per month that my continued business might be considered valuable, but I never get that sense at MMS. Sadly I think they're fine with the turnover and the "administrative fees" they pull in with each fresh rental. read more

The manager of this place (or whoever was at the front desk and making decisions) acted like a jerk. Imagine going into a business and the person at the counter takes a minute or two to finish a personal conversation with a coworker before even looking at you, then his face immediately goes from cheery to 'why are you in my space?' Terse, short, condescending. Unhelpful. And on top of that, seems to have a cadre of homeless people at his beck and call? One of whom i came across apparently living out of a small cubbyhole amongst the storage lockers (which, no judgment. Homelessness is no joke and we should do better at providing). Additionally, their billing verges on dishonest in terms of how little notice & follow-up they give in terms of late fees, other fees, and communication with customers. Avoid. read more

I just finished moving my stuff out of here, and I felt like I should give credit where it's due. I've rented several storage units over the years, from PublicStorage and Life Storage. And from what I experienced, Manhattan Mini Storage is leaps and bounds better. For one thing - the building is very secure. I learned this first hand, a while ago. If you open your unit door and your card is not scanned - a employee will come up running to your unit and start asking questions. While the whole thing was a honest mixup, it made me feel incredibly comfortable with my stuff being there. Another thing - is they actually keep the A/C on throughout the year, and keep it cranked. This may not sound important - but my stuff at PublicStorage was kept in Balmy Warm Air at best, and LifeStorage was hit or miss, either warm or super cold. This is especially important, if you don't want moisture ruining clothes or pictures you have. This was very important to me. In addition, they always, always have carts!! There is nothing worse than showing up on a Saturday and fighting or hunting for a rolling cart. I can't count how many times this is happened to me. Finally - everyone I ever dealt with, was extremely nice and helpful. From helping me move, to small things like the one time I missed a payment, they just waived the fee without any questions. I know I sound like a commercial, but they deserve this review. I can't recommend them more :-) read more

Do not rent from this company. They make it seem in the beginning as if it is affordable, but they get you in the long run. I had a unit for the last two years. The first six months they said since I was guaranteeing to more than 6 months I would get a discount. Since then they have increased the monthly bill by double. Basically they did not give a discount because they have made sure since then to increase the monthly payment two times a year. I received no notice each time the unit was increased. Very unprofessional. The woman Autumn from the West 107th Street location could care less and just said we increase units twice a year. So beware. Stay away from Manhattan Mini Storage. read more

From the first phone call to the registration process with the friendly and accommodating customer rep, it was all so easy. The units are as clean as I remember and the staff is so helpful. For storage facilities, this is one of a kind. I guess it does make sense in Manhattan given that many of the city's residents do not own a vehicle, and thus when one is moving within the city, the fact that they provide vehicle drive up services that will help with loading your items into their truck but also provide transportation to the storage facility is so beneficial for customers. Right after Thanksgiving 2020, I had reserved their shuttle van service because I had to take several items to their storage facility in Manhattan (Chelsea) West 29th Street. My brother was helping me place very heavy suitcases into their shuttle van. However, he was not allowed to drive to the storage facility with me. Due to COVID, Manhattan Mini Storage implemented a rule of one passenger being allowed into the shuttle van service. That means if someone is helping you out, that person must meet you at the facility. Also, the driver NO LONGER HELPS YOU place your items into the van. I don't mind there being new rules due COVID and social distancing. But your COVID rules has to be logical and make sense. How are females in particular suppose to pick up heavy items into the shuttle van by themselves? If you are dealing with heavy items, the majority of time a female would need and have an extra person along with them to help out. They need to change their rules to 2 PASSENGERS MAXIMUM in the shuttle van until further notice. Especially if there is more than one heavy item that needs to be transferred from the person's home to the storage facility or vice versa. You are practicing safety with the COVID rules and restrictions which is ok. However, your new COVID rules and restrictions are too strict to the point where it lacks common sense. Don't be stupid, change the rules slightly to 2 PASSENGERS MAXIMUM to help out FEMALE customers. read more

Clean, easily accessible units, good layout, well lit. Donna at front desk at Spring St. is a real gem, a real lifesaver! 5 stars for her, 3 stars for the company. Phone help is extremely unreliable at best - one regularly gets incorrect and incomplete info despite direct questions and their errors cost you money! A HUGE shout out and A+++ to Donna at the front desk. She (unlike the phone people) actually listened and understood what was needed, went out of her way to find a way to correct what was initially a big error in reservations by phone people. Patient! Personable! Resourceful! Knows the details of the business inside and out. Good sense of humor, down to earth and has a "let me roll up my sleeves and get to work, I can fix this" attitude that was such a relief. Donna went above and beyond and was able to find me a good unit and went out of her way to find me to correct a billing error that had been made. Because of the WRONG info given on the phone I missed out on the price discount I was supposed to have gotten and I could have ended up not only with a unit that didn't fit my needs, but my original issue than needed resolution was not only NOT taken care of, the error would have been permanent. Just about everything I was told on the phone and reassured about was not true when I showed up. Donna took care of other customers to not have them waiting and then spent a lot of time untangling the mess that the office made! She is an incredible asset to the company and I am so appreciative at my luck that she was on the desk that day. Want to emphasize how poor the phone staffing is all polite but no one really listens or only half way listens. Assistant manager Monetta Mentore was very helpful and personable, and made the "paperwork" for the storage process very easy. She took the time to show us the units/options available. She also took the time to explain how to use the "swipe" system for access to the doors and elevator and she made sure we knew how to find our way to and from the storage unit. After exorbitant rate increases over several years, I called to speak with a representative about the monthly rate at the Varick street location I use. No return call after 3 attempts each time supposedly being escalated to a manager. In an industry with low customer service requirements, they failed miserably and I'll be switching to a new company shortly. read more

I haven't actually stored anything here because I'm still looking but I'm quite disappointed already. Jeremy, the young man who took my call was helpful and pleasant and direct without being pushy. My problem is with the advertising of a free move that ISN'T free. What is free is a shuttle service from a location in Manhattan to the storage space. No love for Bronx, Brooklyn, or Queens though. I understand some places in the "lesser boroughs" are kind of far but I'm like 15 minutes from this location, but I see how it is... They may cover the cost of your move if you agree to stay for 7+ months, but I'd bet that's a small minority of people who actually commit to that up front. They will recommend movers for you, but the whole point of choosing a pricier storage space was to save on moving. In the end when there are places that offer a free month of moving and more affordable rates this places ceases to be a bargain. Maybe they're wonderful in other ways, like providing free iced-tea if you're moving in the heat or back massages from those coming from 5 story walk-ups, I don't know, not that I've experienced these things but maybe they have some tricks up their sleeves that I don't know about. All I need is a free move (not a free ride) that's really free, so I'm still looking. read more

I went with the South St location due to price but sadly there aren't any subway stops close to the location so if you are bringing/ picking up lots of goodies or something heavy its a bit of a challenge. Really good experience with this storage facility. Used the free storage taxi on 2 occasions and had no problems. Its pretty easy to load and roll all my stuff up to the storage space in this facility. Location is really easy access by the East River and the hours are very accommodating. They were even open on Christmas Day which was what I needed and made the holiday very peaceful. Using the free taxi saved me a lot of money in van rentals, but the caveat to using this service is you need to book it in advance. read more

You sign a contract and they hit you with an increase every year. After a couple of years you are paying 2x the advertised price for your unit. If you call and complain and want the advertised price they will give it to you, but to get it you have to move all of your stuff to a different unit. When you reserve a space at Manhattan Mini Storage, you get an automatic call back from a representative at the location you've chosen. This call back is to do one thing: UPSELL. No matter what size space you've chosen to reserve, they attempt to get you to rent a larger one. They ask you what you plan to store and no matter what you answer they will tell you you need a larger size unit. I hate this kind of strong arm sales tactic. read more

Excellent customer service and a hassle-free move! I called about a month in advance and found out that I would pay $140 for a 2 month stay with a $140 security deposit. I had all of my questions answered over the phone and scheduled the Storage Taxi (which only picks up in Manhattan) to come between 11am-12:30pm on a Sunday. I had all of my boxes packed and my ikea bed disassembled early that morning. I got a call from the driver Alex that he would be at my apartment in 20 minutes and I moved all of my boxes downstairs (I was on the 3rd floor of a walkup so this was the most stressful part of my move). When Alex arrived, he helped my boyfriend and I move the boxes into the storage taxi (aka minivan with seats pushed down) and organized them so that everything would fit. I was convinced that it wasn't all going to fit (I had 6 boxes, a diassembled bed, dresser, mattress, 2 large bags of clothes, and a suitcase) but Alex was determined and somehow made it work. He was incredibly helpful and friendly and when we arrived at Manhattan Mini-storage, he helped unload my things and put them on the rolling carts as well. I gave him a great tip. The staff doesn't help you move the carts up to your storage locker but that was fairly easy with the elevators and rolling carts. I was able to fit everything inside my locker and the whole process from start to finish (from carrying things down from my apartment to putting the lock on my locker) was about 2.5 hours. The facility has great security and friendly staff. The location is really convenient and clean. I was amazed at how easy and stress-free the whole experience was! read more

Update: the storage manager at the location called me today and very sincerely apologized for my experience there. He also promised that there will be a meeting hosted regarding the customer service at the front desk, which I hope would improve other people's experience at this place. They successfully gave me the worst service I have ever experienced in all New York establishments. None of the staff is helpful in even articulating the easiest question. Example: (1) Do I get the 10 dollars back if I can find the key and return to you? No. You need to give me 10 dollar right now. (After I repeated my question 5 times, some other dude nodded and this staff had to admit, but WITH A VERY NASTY LOOK.) (2) When I tried to close my lease, this same staff took what he needed (which is my signature) and just casually left a pice of copy on the table then left, didn't even lightly suggest me that the process is complete. What kind of customer service would be making you feel so uncomfortable but can't even snap because THEY JUST COMPLETELY IGNORE YOU?! On and I forgot to mention their tricks here and there to get as much as possible from you: buy locks from them (you need TWO) ; insurance (it's compulsory and monthly, the cheapest starts at $10 dollars; and card key (the staff told me to pay him $10 dollars right away with a tone as if $10 is not worth a dime at all). read more

I rented here for years and always received very nice, professional service from the staff. I was particularly impressed with the manager Tony - who helped in every way he could from resolving billing problems, issuing a credit and working to arrange better rates for me over the years. I would definitely use them again if I still lived in the area. My only complaint is that the taxi service does not accommodate brooklyn or the other boroughs. If they had I might still be renting from them. Overall these guys were fair-minded and helpful. They stay open really late, and the parking was actually always easy - which was one of the highlights - since I did a lot of coming and going. I would recommend talking to Tony if you have any concerns and also recommend their outside moving service which they will refer you to if need be. Those guys were reasonable and pros. read more

This business is very predatory, in my experience. They sell very aggressively (even awkwardly so) and make it very difficult to cancel. You can't cancel on their website, they don't provide a contact email, and if they know you are trying to cancel, they will actively avoid you. I typically try to be generous with reviews but this place was just all-around difficult. They parked on the wrong side of the building and I had to move everything down by myself, then push it even farther in the rain because they wouldn't move the truck. After I got in, the driver asked me to confirm the address of where we were headed- a little confusing, as I thought we were going to, well, the storage unit. After we got there the driver left and I unloaded everything by myself. Found a rolling cart but a little help would've been nice. The registration went okay and the staff wasn't rude or anything, process of checking in and unlocking things was explained pretty well. But after I was taken to my unit and handed my keys, they left without a second thought. Normally that would've been fine but there was a 300-pound bookcase that I was left to lift by myself UP the ladder as my unit was an upper one. They saw everything that I had and didn't offer any lower-level units or anything. I'm sure I looked cool trying to maneuver a heavy bookcase up a ladder by myself. I know they're not explicitly ~movers~ but being left alone entirely took much longer than it would've if even one person had offered to help. My scoliosis wasn't too happy after that, lol. read more

I don't think I have experienced so much attitude at a customer-based facility. I almost never leave 1 star reviews and if you see one, they definitely deserve it. The few guys who work here are great and they are always so helpful and friendly. However, they don't compensate for the handful of the ladies who always have a snippy comment back if you have a question on your packages, or mailing boxes. One told me to leave my packages by the front desk, another one quickly demands sternly that I am wrong and makes me carry all my packages to another room. This is 4 large heavy boxes. Later realized that I had to mail them, then demands that I move them back to the original position. No apology was given after making me carry my packages back and forth because she failed to inquire what I was doing with the 4 packages. She would cut me short when I asked a follow-up question. The most unpleasant of them all. Another one asked me if I am sure that my packages came. Then goes on about complaining how customers like me fail to sign for the packages. Hello? Don't use a blanket statement on all of your customers, if I didn't sign then I surely did not pick up my packages. It seemed as if she didn't want to help me because it was early in the morning. If you want unpleasant service for when you are simply mailing or picking up packages, go ahead and get a unit here. Customer service is a one star, but I have to give them some credit for a clean facility and not all employees are unpleasant. Just the few that ruins it for everyone. And these reviews are skewed because a lot of the people have written one or two reviews. You can decide what that means to you. read more

I needed a storage unit quickly and called Jason at the 110th st site . He was , as always, so helpful and such a nice guy. He recommended what I needed and helped me to the south street seaport facility . I met Taylor who was so friendly , welcoming and Incredibly helpful. We had a nice chat about things unrelated to storage and then she was able to help me with a unit to fit my needs . She had a colleague Mo who was friendly and also incredibly professional . Great company - oh they recommended simply moving and once the guys got to my apartment for the move they were great !!!! Margaux at the office took all of phone calls when trying to get a more exact arrival time and understood my need to have a more accurate time frame . Expensive but they were worth it ! I was informed that I had to move the contents of my locker on the sixth floor (now that I come back here and see reviews mentioning the roof fire of Oct 14, I know why and am glad I heeded the call to move before that date!) I was given a new locker on the 4th floor which was supposed to have the same dimensions (5x5x4.5 feet iirc). I went to check out the locker, and felt that it was smaller. Not by much, but given that my locker was full, maybe enough. I double-checked, measuring the height on my body of both storage lockers, and indeed, it was about half a foot shorter. We tried to move the contents, but some of the boxes standing up didn't even fit anymore, so it was impossible to use the new locker. In my mind, worst-case scenarios started running of how I'd spend the next few hours arguing with the staff, whether I should get a bigger locker which would be more expensive, and so on... I had asked before what the price of a bigger locker was, in case I wanted to maybe store more things there, and it would have been more than three times as much for a locker that would be 60% bigger. I went downstairs and explained the problem to Rawle Duke. He checked his computer, and in very little time he offered me a new locker, full height, for the same price as what a half-size one would currently cost. The contract is a little confusing, and it reads as if I'm actually paying full-price with a one-year discount to half-size price, but I definitely appreciated how quickly Rawle took responsibility for the company's failed promise to provide me with a same-size locker, and assigned a new, bigger, locker to me. This is not the kind of service I expected from MMS, so I was very pleasantly surprised to be back on my way after fiilling my storage locker, and enjoying the rest of my Sunday evening at home, instead of in a frustrating argument. I may change my mind next year if they do intend to charge me full-price for a locker size I didn't need, but we'll deal with that problem then. read more

This is my first time using MMS and I have to say that it is the most amazing fast service I have received in a while ! Antonio Baron is incredible ! The way he treats his work is so professional and high quality, so basically all you have to do is sit back and relax. Trust me , with this guy your in good hands! Antonio kindly showed me my unit and how to deal with the lock's and other security issues . I didn't even have to ask questions as we where walking through the hallway he explained to me all the rules and rights. There is another person that I would like to thank is Milan Halik , he was the person I spoke with before going ahead and reserving a storage unit. Once the whole process was done in a little while, he called me back and gave me a few tips . Which were very actual. So don't worry about anything , this is a great place to store your stuff ! read more

161 Varick street -Horrendous customer service Over the last 5.5 years I have spent over $7,000 at this facility which I visit two a year. In the last two visits I have been verbally abused by the staff at this location. Last Friday November 9, 2018 Derek confronted me demanding card and spoke to me as if he was scolding a child. He refused to tell me why he needed my card. When I complained to the manager Derek attacked me and yelled at me for lying. It was hurtful to be yelled at and called a liar. The manager was not helpful and justified Derek's actions. Once you are a customer here no one will help.you or return a phone call. They employ rude people read more

Great facility. Well maintained and lit. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I purchased a storage unit today, as well as all supplies needed for my upcoming apartment move (boxes, bubble rap, tape, etc...) Ravie was extremely helpful. Would recommend this place to anyone! Exceeded my expectations, especially given that there aren't many other storage options around. The prices also are pretty reasonable. I have been using Manhattan Mini Storage for years. This is my first time at this location and I needed a storage room without all the long talks and massive paperwork. Monetta was the one who assisted me and she was awesome! I had a 12 hour shift and was so tired and she made everything go smoothly. This place doesn't get 5 stars because I didn't get exactly what I was looking for. My storage room is a bit far from the elevator and pricey. read more

I waited until I left to write this review but lets just say they are horrible. Lets start with move in day. I reserved the taxi for the day of the move. I was given a time frame and i was fine with that. After about 30 min after the window passed I called and they told me the driver was running late. I said okay, but it would have been nice to receive a call, but I understood it happens. So they tell me to give it an hour, an hour passes still no driver, I again had to call 3 times (they didn't bother calling me even though they had all my contact information) before the driver finally arrives. He is no help and gives us grief to hurry up (it took us 15 min to get everything in the truck.) I get to the place told them what happened and they didn't care. They showed me the unit and even when i asked about what a smaller size would look like to possibly rent another unit the person was again rude and said a smaller size wouldn't fit my stuff and just left us. I just needed the unit for a few short months in between moving so at that point I was already there I just moved in. Move out: So I called about a month ahead and notified them that I was moving out on the 15th (mid month I figured made sense) told that was okay and they would close out my account and payment for the 15th. I move out and I call after and say they still charged me for the full month. I was then rudely told that they don't refund after the 10th of the month. (the 10th who moves on the 10th?) and that it was my fault I should have confirmed in more detail with them when i initially cancelled. My fault? They are rude, in attentive and not worth the price you pay. Find another place. read more
