The food is excellent, the service is fast, and the crowd is always a nice mix. Parking is limited, so I usually park across the street at Stop & Shop. Just keep in mind this spot is cash only. A few of my favorites are the Bronx Style Chicken Parm, Filet of Sole with lemon sauce, and Snapper Filet with light tomato sauce. Honestly, everything is good, and you can order it all to go too. We have visited Robkes countless times, and it never lets us down. The food is homemade and incredibly delicious. We enjoyed an amazing Beet Salad with grilled chicken and the Chicken Milanese. However, the breading got progressively mushy as I ate the pork chop. The portion was huge, and the price was affordable. I also had a glass of Coke. Total price: $20. Rob took my order, and Javier served me. I wish Rob had been more attentive because I had to flag down another bartender to replenish my soda. Another negative is that it was so loud inside! I could hardly hear myself think--perhaps it was because of the holiday. Remember to bring CASH, and if you are Blessed, you will find a parking space in their tiny lot. Five giant stars for the food! The back of the house, crushed it once again. Two stars to the front of the house. Our server got lost, which seems difficult because the place is so small. We were out for a very special celebration and never had a chance to get dessert since when we finally flagged our waiter down we were just happy to get the check. They have a lot of specials, but they don't tell you what they are and they don't give you a separate menu. To view the specials you have to leave your seat and shlep through the narrow, crowded spaces and traverse to the front of the restaurant where they are on chalkboard. This was the second time hubby and I decided to go to Robke's for a lunch date. The first time we ordered way too much food so we restrained a little this time. We arrived about 12:30 and as expected the small parking lot was full but a car happened to be leaving just as we pulled in, what luck! Last time we had to park across the street..although parking is scarce, there is plenty of seating inside. Hubby loves his Expresso martini so we each ordered a cocktail. Have to say, the Expresso martini is pretty strong but pretty yummy. My Mia spritz was refreshing but lol the ice waters it down. Pasta e fagioli for hubby and breaded artichokes for me. The fagiole soup wasn't as thick as we're used to from other restaurants but flavor was just right. The artichokes were a little too lemony for hubby but I enjoyed it. The pork chop martini was the dish hubby missed out our first time and as he didn't leave anything on the plate, I'm guessing he enjoyed it. The flavor of the penne alla Mia was good, the pasta slightly over al dente for me but still enjoyable, just too much quantity so I ended up taking it home. Dinner for tomorrow! We opted for no dessert. lol odd point but we had dessert last time and noticed the waiters go to a building next door to get the desserts. Leave plenty of time to drive around and find a spot. They do not have regular coffee, only espresso or cappuccino. They are cash only, so make sure you hit the ATM before you go. Other than that, here is my honest review, after going there multiple times, on different days of the week and at different times of the year. They have a few signature dishes, but my highest accolades go to two of them: pork chop martini (also available with chicken), and their linguini "chop chop". The former is a pounded pork chop served with a white wine sauce and topped with hot cherry peppers. This is served with roasted potatoes. I've never had anything like it, including the ones other places try to duplicate. No one can top theirs. The "chop chop" is actually a seafood sauce over pasta (chop chop=cioppino). Imagine fresh seafood, dominated by clams, with a memorable sauce over al dente pasta. WOW. Their service is unique. They run a fast-paced and efficient restaurant. You won't wait for water, bread, or your meal. Do not mistake their crisp pace for rudeness; they are all about keeping the flow of things moving. Each and every server is personable and will be happy to recommend dishes or educate you on some of their "must-try" items. From firsthand experience, I can tell you they care for their customers. On a busy night, before attending a show at the theater on Main Street (it is a short drive from there!), I brought my mom, who uses a wheelchair. The second we walked in, they helped usher us to seats and were extremely accommodating. Those who dine with small children or elderly people with mobility issues can appreciate when a restaurant actually cares about its customers as human beings, all worthy of the same treatment and dining experience. The blackened swordfish and broccoli rob was perfect, the chicken franchise was moist and delicious, the seafood salad and prosciutto and fresh mozzarella appetizers were delicious. The cappuccino and espresso's were perfect. Service was up to par. They told us an hour wait but we were seated in less than 45 mins. The hosting is definitely unorthodox but fun. How Robke's managed to get on Newsday's list of the "best Italian restaurants on Long Island" I will never know. It is far too loud, crowded, and the food is nothing to write home about. It also seems to attract an old crowd, which doesn't make sense to me because the general cramped and loud nature of the place made it really challenging for my elderly relatives to move around and hear things. I went with my family for lunch on a weekday and it was mobbed, with very little room between tables. By that I mean basically every time someone got up to move they were practically sitting on the opposite table. The inside has a strange diagonal layout, and there were people standing in the wider walkways waiting for tables to open up, making it feel even more claustrophobic. I can't help but wonder if everything is up to code; in the event of a fire or emergency it would be really difficult to evacuate the area. The noise of people talking, multiple TV's, and the radio bouncing off the walls and garage door/window was also unbelievable. We came in the first place because we wanted to try their lunch special, but had to wait for 15 minutes before one of the short tempered waiters bothered to look our way. When we finally ordered, it took much longer for our food to come. We mainly ordered pastas, which are $14.95 for a very large portion. Based on the rave reviews and reputation around town we were expecting fresh and creative pasta dishes but these were lackluster. I got the orecchiette with hot sausage and broccoli rabe, which had a very thin runny sauce with not much flavor at all, even when I added cheese. Others ordered the pappardelle bolognese that wasn't anything special, and rigatoni vodka- which came with a dry chicken cutlet on top. The texture of all the pasta was more gummy than al dente, making me think it was cooked in a rush. Overall I can't say I will be back. The atmosphere ruined our experience, and even if you took that away all that would be left is mediocre Italian food at best. You can easily find much better restaurants elsewhere. read more

After seeing all the hype about this restaurant on social media, we decided to try it today, on our Anniversary. First, parking is so terrible, we almost just drove away. It's a small, crowded restaurant, and tables are fairly close. Not ideal. It's also very loud, especially in the bar area, but even in the restaurant area plus, the music. We were sat at a table quickly. We were served a bread basket that was ice cold, like it came out out of the refrigerator with the butter. Disappointing. Our server was nice and very funny. He looked like he should be a bouncer! For appetizer, we had the baked clams. They were exactly what a baked clam should be. A small, whole clam with breading on top. Perfect! My husband had the Pork Chop Martini. He said it was the best pork chop he ever had. Flavorful and tender. I ordered the special, Zuppe di Pesce. It was excellent. Clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and calamari - it was all tender. When the bill arrived, we were surprised to find this restaurant is cash only. And they made it difficult for me when they provided a specials menu. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The ossobuco fell off the bone and the sauce was tasteful. Chicken parm was also very good. I didn't see a kids menu but if you have multiple, they can easily share a dish. Dessert options are limited but you don't need many with a rainbow cookie cheesecake. It became very busy and LOUD where we were sitting, the music was right above us. We ordered a Mac and cheese for the kids and the spinach artichoke riceball special appetizer. It came out in about 5 minutes, awesome, except the rice balls were still cold inside, not room temp, but cold. Also the Mac and cheese the pasta was hard, more than al dente. Now we waited over an hour for our mains to come out. Luckily they were the star of the show. I really wanted the twin pork chop but they were sold out, so I got the short rib. We finally made it to Robke's! I have been hearing about the lunch specials here for years but for some reason, we never made it here. So was it worth the wait? Depends. If you are looking for good food at a great price, then yes! If you are looking for the best shrimp, or best pasta or best steak, c'mon man! I will say though, their espresso martini was really good. Lots of alcohol and strong espresso flavor. It is not cheap; one drink costs more than some of their entrees but worth it IMO. Highly recommend! Free bread is always appreciated, although we appreciated it too much because we were too full by the time the food came. Spicy shrimp - was ok. There is a slight kick; could have used more. I think the sauce is just cocktail sauce. Overall just ok. Artichokes - pretty good but very lemony. Blackened steak - was a little overcooked but the blackened seasoning was nice. Fries were a little soggy. Gnocchi - wife thought they were a little overcooked but sauce was pretty good. Was too full to have desserts but will be back to try their pork martini and paperdelle, which we overheard the waiter saying was their best dishes. I had a great time here on a Saturday night with friends. We arrived at 9:30 and it was packed, but the wait was short. We waited about 30 minutes before being seated and enjoyed espresso martinis at the bar. The venue itself is very small, so it is crowded. There is outdoor seating, but seating overall is rather limited. We were finally seated and we ordered the fried capellini. It was excellent and the spicy vodka sauce that they were smothered in was a home run. They reminded me of the fried capellini from King Umbertos. I couldn't tell you what my friends ordered, but they ordered a few different dishes and had steak added to it, while one of my friends ordered the same dish, but with shrimp. I was the outlier and went with something a little lighter, chicken in a prosciutto sauce, which reminded me of a Marsala sauce. The only difference? Peas and prosciutto. I loved it and ate it all. I then used the bread to soak up the remaining sauce. The bread was alright, but by this point it was 10 something at night, so can't really complain. I loved the whole vibe, the music was good, it was full of great energy and the food was terrific. I actually want to go back and order something else off of the menu. Oh, and I didn't get it because I was full, but they have rainbow cookie cheesecake. I have to get the next time I go. And one last thing, it's cash only. read more

Having been to this place a few times now, I'm settling on a 4 rating for good service and that lunch menu! Food is decent, but some things are definitely better than others, and dishes are inconsistent in quality depending on crowd size or time of day (or maybe chef?) Pretty standard American Italian food: parms, cutlets, pasta, etc. I've gotten their chicken cutlet over pasta several times, the mac and cheese, and a la vodka. Pan fried meatballs are really good, as are the cappellini cakes. The beet and goat cheese salad is nice, as are the Roman artichokes oreganata. My last visit I ordered my rigatoni with vodka sauce with a chicken cutlet, and it came with basically no sauce, and my chicken cutlet was not cooked well done as requested, and had some pretty bad gristle pieces. That was probably my worst lunch experience here. I'd say it was because it was busy, but this place is always busy, especially during lunch. Also, bottled water is severely overpriced!! $17!! Home. Home is the place were you feel most accepted and I can say for certain that my home is robkes. I myself purchased the penne vodka with a chicken cutlet on top. Cooked perfectly. It came out faster than I could say hippopotamus, amazing service. The vibes are immaculate there aswell. Came here to celebrate my dads 92nd birthday. He loves pork chops and cherry peppers and he'd seen a review that Robkes makes good one... ordinarily we would've had a celebration at home, but he wanted to get out, so we figured, "why not?" When we got there, the first thing you notice is the parking is atrocious; very few spots, and even dropping someone at the door and pulling out is difficult. Nonetheless, we managed and upon entering discovered the place was packed, ridiculously so. We stood around for 20 minutes (right next to an empty table for 8... just our number) while our wait staff tried to figure out where to put us. Finally the manager came out and told us to take the table. Super unorganized, and they don't take reservations. Make that make sense to me :/ Dinner was, at best, "adequate". Nothing to sing an opera about, frankly, coming from a family of accomplished cooks, our food is 100x better. Highlight was the chicken cutlet and penne ala vodka. I've never had such dry, crappy cutlets in all my life. Everything else was just "ok". The only saving grace was the prices were very reasonable. Had they been expensive on top of crappy I'd have blown my stack. After our mediocre dinner and dessert we paid our bill and left our usual 25% tip. My brother had to get the car and pull it up front (my dad has a walker) and our waitress came by and told us we HAD to leave because they were swamped and, "they needed the table". We had to struggle to get out the door which was packed with people (God forbid there was an emergency) and my dad had to wait, with his walker, in the rain under an overhang for 15 minutes until the car could pull up (my brother had to park down the road). Disgraceful, rude, and frankly, dangerous. So. If you like mediocre food at a reasonable price, and don't mind being packed into this little shithole where they ONLY accept cash... then by all means this is the place for you. Or you could drive up the road less than a quarter mile and go to Branzinos, where they run a restaurant that treats its customers like human beings, and not cash carrying cattle. You make the call. I have tried many different things on their menu and I have been very happy with almost everything that I have tried. the only menu item that I thought was a little lacking was their steak sandwich. I tried a menu item that was like a shrimp marsala with cheese on top of it and it was excellent. I highly recommend this place. The music can be a little loud and the place has been packed every time I dined there. The servers are all on point. First, if you dont want to wait long, you should come for lunch or by 4:30-5pm, otherwise it could be a very long wait. This place is PACKED. Tables are so close to each other, no room to walk around and it is so loud. The service was meh, felt very robotic, no personality. For an appetizer we had the baked clams which were very tiny and not worth the price. The entrees are what made the visit for us. Mac and cheese with chicken cutlet, pork chop martini and chicken milanese - all phenomenal. It's a kind of a "try it once to say you did" type of place.
