I used to work at Sports Chalet and Sports Authority(formally Sport Mart). I was Department Head at Sports Chalet in Golf and Tennis and Bikes as well. I purchased my City bike from there and it was called (Marin) great bike. Well a few years ago both stores closed and I didn't have a bike store to do my work. Mind you, I could have done all of the work myself but, I wasn't going to do that. I would let someone else "Get Their Hands Dirty" I took my bike to the now closed "Bikecology" (In my opion they where the worst bike store. I looked for local shops in my area and I can across Manny's. He talked to me about bikes and I knew I was hooked on this guy. He told me where he was. So, I took my bike there to have the flat fixed. Not only did he fix my flat, he even said the tube that was originally there was to small. So, he replaced the tube and he even suggested liners for the front tire and the back. And, he inflated my tires to the correct pressure and my bike rides like so smooth, he even adjusted my brakes! Manny is amazing. I've never seen a straighter wheel true in my life. I've tried truing my own wheels in the past and have ruined many, many wheels on my old bmx bike. So many that my dad ended up getting me Tuff Wheels to put an end to it. I had the day off work and thought it'd be a nice day for a cruise on my new Redline, but it had a moderate wobble in the front wheel. Since we have been on restrictions lately I decided to take my bike in. It would be helping to support a local business and it would help get my bike running smoothly. I am assuming the owner's name is Manny so that is what I will call him. Manny was awesome. He was very friendly and it did a great job fixing my bike. He did such an awesome job I decided to take another bike in to get tuned up that hadn't been ridden in over 15 years. Both bikes run better than I ever remember. Manny's is great. On my last ride I somehow did some damage to my derailleur and decided to give Manny's a shot after reading the reviews here. The reviews are correct. He does great work and is very reasonable. I was prepared to buy a new derailleur but he was able to salvage part of an old derailleur and fix mine. Manny is a great mechanic. Took my bike in on Saturday (5/12). I had the bike back by Wednesday (5/16). Actually stopped by on Tuesday to drop off the new chain for the bike. He was already done with most of the work. This may not the be case for you, as his availability to provide a quick turnaround depends on the workload. Keep in mind this is a one-man store. So you can be sure you're talking to the man, who'll be working on your bike. Manny delivered. Also, there was zero pressure to buy anything. He knew I simply wanted to transfer my components to another frame and patiently guided me through the process, including helping to determine exactly which parts I needed to get, for my older gearset. Very helpful. He did give me the option for him to find the components required, but I decided to find the components on my own, since I thought I might have to look online for some parts. Bottom line: I'll be using Manny for my bike service needs going forward. He's a trustworthy person, who's great at his craft. read more

I really wanted to like this place. However, my experience was definitely not so pleasant. I left this bike shop feeling rushed and pressured into a hasty and expensive service suggestion. Needless to say, I felt like Manny (the owner and sole technician) was trying to rip me off. First off, he quoted me a different price than what's advertised in the display inside his actually store (a framed menu of services on his desk shows "major" tune-ups priced at $135). Apparently, he now charges $150. On top of that, he insisted I replace all four of my cables at ten bucks each, for an additional total of $40. He also wanted to charge another $10 for an inner tube. A grand total of $200. I felt uneasy with the quote he provided so I left and had my bike inspected at a few other shops in the South Bay . For example, afterward (on that same day) I had my bike inspected for free quotes at additional bike shops including Bike-o-Rama, Fuzion Workshop, South Bay Cycle, and Safety Cycle. First off, all of them were way more patient with me. On top of that, they all took the time to prop my bike up on the mechanic service crane to check out the brakes, chain, and gears. Manny didn't do any of that. He literally just looked at my bike from where I was standing when I walked in and made a judgement on everything. My feelings about Manny's place got even worse when I found out the going rate for replacement cables is $2.00 at other shops. Manny wanted to replace my cables at 10 bucks EACH! Huge price difference. On top of that replacement tubes at other shops were 4 bucks not 10 like what he quoted me at. Sure, Manny could make the argument that he sells premium parts. However, if that's the case, I think it's rude that Manny was trying to upsell me on all these premium products for my average bike. I'm not riding a $3000 Cervelo so why insist that I need those types of parts? It's like a car mechanic insisting I need Rolce Royce parts for my Honda Civic. Not necessary and just an upsell to make more money. Needless to say, Manny's Cyclery didn't feel honest. It felt way overpriced, dismissive, and not what everyone makes it out to be here on Yelp. Maybe I caught Manny on a bad day, but I don't plan on visiting his establishment ever again. read more
