My friend recommended Mano a Mano for dinner since she'd enjoyed a meal here previously (especially the bread, which she loves). Three of us arrived a couple minutes early for our reservation, but weren't seated for about 20 minutes after the reservation time. I'm not exactly sure what happened, if they sat a walk-in in error or had some campers, but they were completely full. They brought us some popcorn ice cream after dinner to make up for it. Highly recommend that ice cream! The restaurant is, as many have mentioned, pretty dark. It makes for nice ambience, but a little harder to read the menus or admire the food. We got the zucchini blossoms and eggplant cutlets to start. Both were excellent. The zucchini blossoms were lightly fried, still delicate, and filled with lovely melted cheese. The eggplant was fully a half-eggplant in a crisp breading. It had a wonderful spicy marinara that I wish there was a bit more of. For entrees we got the ravioletti, pappardelle with mushroom ragu, and a pasta with lamb (I forget what it was called). All were good, not amazing. The reason I can't give them more than 3 stars is that we originally ordered the lasagna, which was a special, specifically saying "If there's any left--we have a backup." Our server said he would check and when we didn't hear back we assumed all was well. My pasta came and we waited so we could all eat together. After a couple minutes the second one came. When the lasagna hadn't arrived, we started eating and sharing what was there. It became pretty evident it was forgotten and we were more than halfway done when we flagged down our server, who had not yet checked in. He went back to the kitchen and found they were out. By the time my friend's backup (the ravioletti) arrived, everything else was finished. While the apps & ice cream were great, nothing really stood out about the mains. Pretty overpriced for what it is. Confused by the focaccia appetizer. Is there a type of focaccia that is a thin crust pizza? Cacio e Pepe was fine. For a moment, like Quinn, I felt hopeful. The dim lighting created a private ambiance. We ordered three pastas, and--surprisingly--all were edible, another rarity in this town. For a moment in time, I dared to believe I might be somewhere else, outside the Midwest. But then, our waiter trotted out with the abomination. So glad we found this place! Best Italian food we've had in a while; lots of pasta options (which seem to change frequently so there's always something new). Corn Agnolotti with chilli is the perfect dish - just the right amount of heat. Tagliatelle bolognese also excellent. Focaccia de Recco is a unique and worthwhile starter. We appreciated that the portions are generous but not huge; no use getting more than you can eat. Ambience is low-key and inviting; service was attentive. By the time the weekend rolls around I'm done making decisions. This puts husband in the annoying spot if throwing out dining suggestions, most of which get 'no'. To his surprise, this was a quick yes. Mano A Mano is by the folks who brought you Andros Taverna next door. The space is on the smaller side, there's no bar to sit at, but you can grab a drink at Andros. The interior is a lot of wood paneling with a MCM feel. From the outside it looks closed. The main door is completely blacked out and the dim lighting and blinds makes it appear closed. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived so we went next door for a drink. We popped back in because it had been longer than expected and staff was incredibly apologetic. Service was excellent, staff was attentive (but unobtrusive) and knowledgeable. They even have us a free dessert for the delay in dining. We started with the focaccia, which most likely different than any you've had before. It's very thin, reminding me almost of paratha. It was very good and not overly filling. They also came around with a bread basket and spread, which was excellent. I could've made a whole meal of it. Next we had the zucchini blossoms, which I highly recommend. For our mains, we both got specials. Husband got the tagliatelle Bolognese and I got the spaghetti al limone. We were very pleased with our respective meals and cleaned out our plates. We were very full and weren't expecting dessert, but were given the popcorn gelato. It sounds weird, but was delicious. We went on a Saturday night with no reservations but arrived early enough to grab a community table (two such tables, 8 seats each). We loved all the pasta we tried (spaghetti - terrific sauce; angolotti - yummy meaty filling & bright acidic tomatoes to cut the rich buttery sauce; & last but not least the amatriciana - rich, pungent red sauce & crispy pork cheek). We had a party of 4 and upon arrival our reservation wasn't ready unless we took some communal table. I pointed out 2 open booths but the hostess said she already has reservation assigned to those which didn't make sense to me. But they started cleaning up a booth and when I told her that then she sat us at a booth finally. The server was...painful? He had this grand entrance with a whole speech ready and a very thorough but quick rundown of the menu. He added some jokes here and there and basically talked for 7 minutes before we even had water. Then when he took our order he high-fived one of our friends even she visibly showed she didn't want to. She basically was forced into a "up to - high-five" which felt very odd and pushy. We specifically informed them multiple times and the waitress verbalized understanding, but they still served it to us, resulting in an allergic reaction and having to take emergency medication. The Assistant Manager, J is highly unprofessional and rude, gaslit us and said the allergy and allergic reaction was not real, did not apologize, said she "trusted her team" and argued with us. She brought out another ingredient and said the allergic reaction did not happen. I've never experienced such unprofessionalism where they treat customers with such disrespect. Severely disappointing meal that began with heirloom tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella and Genovese pesto. Says the menu. The tomatoes were likely grape tomatoes from Jewel, the buffalo mozzarella was not possibly, and the pesto completely and utterly devoid of flavor. Seasoning? None present. The Very Verde Insalata? Slightly overdressed under seasoned but otherwise inoffensive. The pasta dish, Limone, was overcooked and under seasoned but did taste of lemon and to me that's a victory. The overpriced meal delivered no value and on top of that the service was terrible. The owner and staff of Mana A Mano should be ashamed of themselves honestly. Was looking forward to dining here as we are big fans of both Andros Taverna and Asador Bastien. In a city with so many good Italian restaurants this is among the best. The menu featured fresh locally sourced food, quality ingredients with a focus on pasta. Most of the pasta is made in house and well made and perfectly cooked al dente. We had two pasta dishes, cacio e pepe and braised rabbit pappardelle. Both excellent. Started with the local fresh tomato, peach and sweet corn salad. The produce was at the peak of ripeness. Heavenly. The tiny whole fried calamari might be the the best in the city. My wife says the best and I can't disagree. The meatballs were very tasty and tender. I like meatballs with a bit more meat texture but would order again. For a new restaurant the front of the house had it together. Manager greeted us and the servers were knowledgeable and attentive. Pacing of the food was spot on and never felt rushed. Wine list is small but well selected and reasonably price. This is not only a great addition to the Logan Square neighborhood but to the list of top quality Italian restaurants in the city. Worth a trip and we will be back soon. read more

Luck was with us when we stumbled upon Mano a Mano. Gorgeous, lux, minimalistic ambiance was very romantic. The welcoming staff guided us through the inventive, decadent menu. The fresh pasta was some of the best I've ever had. The ricotta toast and smoked sardines were also fire. Wine game was strong and we really enjoyed the Sangiovese we settled on. This is one of those restaurants that refuses to seat you until the rest of your party arrives. Rather stupid for a restaurant that doesn't have a bar to wait at, just a 5 foot square entryway. So they had me just standing there awkwardly with no drinks while the table was empty. They could have made some extra $ off of me, and I wouldn't have been disgruntled, not sure what the reasoning is there. The food was absolutely delicious. We had several vegetarians in our party. We ordered the cauliflower crudo and zucchini flowers for apps - AMAZING. The very verde salad was very good too. You cannot go wrong with any of the pastas. We switched out the spaghetti for the pappardelle with the pomodoro sauce. The tagliatelle bolognese was also super tasty.
