Came to Via Carducci for our anniversary on a Thursday night and we were seated right away. We prefer the outdoor seating area as opposed to their indoor space. Service was a little slow but it was pretty busy. They definitely overcharge for their wine (an average bottle of almost $50 and those options were not very good). Their specialty is definitely pasta dishes and while their Alfredo was amazing, I can't recommend the ravioli. It just was not a very well sized portion and left a lot to be desired. Came here for a quick weekday lunch: we had a reservation but didn't need it as the place was mostly empty at 2pm. I ordered the chicken parm panini, and it was pretty good. Had some pretty impressive Italian food for not as much as expected. It has the higher quality of upscale with much better prices. Via Carducci La Sorella is even a Wicker Park restaurant. Could have been a serious ripoff and one would have blinked. The menu is full of classics as well as some things that are more for modern tastes. Found out about it while we were looking for classic Italian but affordable. It's certainly got quite a few pricy things here but we found some things on the menu that would be chill. The menu has a surprising variety in prices. A lot of wines to choose from. It's $9 a glass for a few of these. Actually great. The one we got was the Masseria Li Veli Primitivo IGT. As for the food it can be hard finding vegan options but they have a few. It's about $15 for a panini. The one I got was the Vegetariano. Has a lot. This is made with eggplant, mushrooms, onions, red peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini. Choose balsamic and extra virgin olive oil, or pesto. This is served on ciabatta, which is fluffy and warm. Filling enough. It's about $18 for pasta. After looking through all these she got the Spaghetti Alla Napoletana. This was pretty typical looking for a pasta. Great selection for those wanting something Italian but giving them lots of choices. It's recommended to get a reservation for groups. A very cute spot that we were able to get a reservation at during do division street fest. The ambiance is cozy and classic, and the patio is a great vibe too. We were immediately given some tasty bread- would've been so much better warmed up! But otherwise loved that this was complementary with different varieties. My spicy marg was delicious and refreshing. We got the ceasar salad to share, which was interestingly much more vinegar-y. The linguini con gamberi was a delicious dish with nice big juicy shrimp. We recently moved to the area and heard great things about this place. Truly such delicious Italian! They do have a huge menu, so there's something for everyone! We were able to get a last minute reservation and got seated immediately when we arrived which was fantastic! The service was great despite how busy they were. We loved our food and experience at Via Carducci and are looking forward to our next visit to taste more of the menu. We were able to get seated after a 30 minute wait for a walk-in for three people on a Friday night. The service was excellent and we never felt forgotten or too rushed with ordering. The complimentary bread basket was promptly provided for us after we were seated. The cheesy bread was a favorite amongst our group. The calamari was perfectly fried and the perfect texture. The bruschetta with the sausage and goat cheese was a hit too. It looked a bit scant with toppings but the flavors were balanced perfectly and it was just the right amount. We ordered two of the specials offered for entrees and my dining counterparts were still raving about the food the next day. The shrimp and lobster ravioli had a perfectly balanced protein ratio (and was well stuffed) and the sauce paired well. The sea bass was perfectly prepared and not over-seasoned. The mashed potatoes complimented the fish without being overpowering. The lasagna was exactly how you would want lasagna to taste. No notes. We came here for lunch on a Friday around 1pm, we had no trouble getting a table. There was one person eating inside alone and a couple outside eating. They have a big menu. I got the eggplant parm sandwich, it was good, I think it needed some fat or more of a charred cheese. It came with a side of fries. My partner got the lasagna. They serve you bread after you order food. I also got an espresso martini, it was a super creamy one likely they used too much kahlua and no actual espresso. I have not been in years. Yet has the fondest memory of this memorable restaurant circa 2011/2012. Originally reviewed in my other Yelp account. Hoping to be able to provide updated version soon. My go to saying once upon a time, was who can mess up a Chicken Parmesan so that is my go to dish. Yet I believe this time I tried the Eggplant & it was fantastic. I love using yelp to help me decide on what to order and our waiter came up to me and told me to that I shouldn't be looking at my phone to order food and I should just order based off looking at the menu etc. (it was like a 2 minute rant). Then when it came time to pay the bill we asked if 1 of guest could have a seperate check since she was on a work trip and wanted to use her company card to pay. He then yelled at us telling us we should never ask a waiter to split the check and again went on a 2 minute rant about it. It was so loud that all the tables around us were looking at us. Came for a 6:30 reservation (after hosts calling 7 times to confirm the reservation the days prior) and at 8 the manager came to the table after we paid over $400 for our meals and drinks/ 20% tip and told us we need to leave immediately because we've been there over 2 hours. We were obviously not yet at the 2 hour mark (also was never told there was a time limit) and multiple people still had full glasses of wine to finish. They overbooked the restaurant and were incredibly rude to us for a mistake made on their end. Food was entirely underwhelming and restaurant too tightly packed for it to be worth being treated so poorly. Take your business elsewhere in the neighborhood. read more

My picky husband got an eggplant Parmesan sandwich and said it was a 10/10 and that he would come back next month for the same thing. The Turano bread of the sandwich was fantastic. Full disclosure: I didn't eat, so going off the word of my husband and nephew. They started with a complimentary bread basket and ordered mussels from the appetizer menu. The bread they said was alright and mussels were a great portion, however it only came with four small crostinis, not enough to pair with all the mussels/stew. Overall, nothing to write home about. My husband got the shrimp and broccoli pasta. The shrimp were cooked well except one had an off taste. There wasn't much flavor in his sauce and unfortunately the pasta was over cooked. For an authentic Italian restaurant... that's a cardinal sin. My nephew got the fettuccini bolognese and said his pasta was over cooked as well. He found the flavor to be alright. My husband wasn't impressed with the sauce on this either (and I'm usually the hard critic, not him!) but rather just kind of mush. When the waiter asked how it was, the first time he walked away before they could respond. He asked again later and my husband told the waiter the pasta was over cooked, his reaction was to essentially ignore the comment and ask about the shrimp (bc he ate that part). My husband said he wasn't looking for a comp but wanted to let him know. He said he would let the staff know but never apologized and almost seemed offended by the feedback.
