I've been here a few times, and I honestly don't know why I haven't reviewed this place yet. The moment you walk into Manresa Bread, you're greeted right away. The space has a modern yet warm feel with beautiful natural wood finishes, fresh loaves of sourdough lining the shelves, pastries displayed in the case, and a mix of large communal wood tables, regular seating, and high-top tables. It's the kind of café that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. The staff was friendly and helped us choose both a pastry and our toast. They were also happy to customize our order--we asked for the levain sourdough toast with butter instead of the usual olive oil. That toast was absolutely divine. The sourdough had the perfect balance: chewy without being too sour, with a crust that was crisp but not so hard that it fought back. Easily the best sourdough toast I've had in the Bay Area. If you come here, this is the one thing you have to order. The only disappointment was the butter. They serve French butter, but for an extra $2, the portion was tiny and honestly nothing special. I've had better butter from Whole Foods. It didn't take away from how incredible the bread was, but it wasn't worth the upcharge. Their Kouign-amann is also one of the best I've ever had. Instead of the typical flat, flaky style, theirs is taller with countless buttery layers that create an amazing texture. The cappuccino was another highlight. It had subtle notes of orange peel, whiskey, and cardamom, making it unique. The latte art was beautiful too. Overall, Manresa Bread is one of those cafés that makes you want to sit down with a laptop or a book and spend a few hours there. The only downside is there are no power outlets, so come with a full battery if you're planning to work. Must orders: Levain sourdough toast with butter and the Kouign-amann. The honey corn scone was fantastic--lightly sweet with a wonderful balance of savory corn and honey flavors. It was delicious on its own, but the strawberry jam on the side was a great addition and paired nicely. The almond croissant was wonderfully flaky and buttery, filled with a rich, flavorful almond paste. Very good! I also ordered the seasonal lavender latte, and it was outstanding. Manresa breads and baked goods are justly famous in the South Bay and beyond. I have to give a special shout out to the kouign-amann pastry. Their rendition of this rich, crisp, laminated Breton butter orgy is the best I've had in this country, and yes I'll die on this hill. Sandwiches are amazing, as are loaves of any bread you care to mention. Prices are somewhat high, as part of the affluent Silicon Valley ecosystem where a place like Manresa can thrive. But I would say it's fair value for the high quality. They serve Verve coffee, so this is also the place to get the best latte in Los Gatos (a town strangely lacking in good coffee given how stinking rich the population is). The atmosphere is standard modern coffee joint. Not super comfortable but fine. Some outdoor seating, a pandemic-era street patio situation. Service is generally friendly and competent at baseline, and often even better. read more

Rounded up from 3.5 stars. We used to be huge fans of Manresa bread so when we were in the area again, we were excited to make the stop for some breakfast. Pastries are still delicious but no longer the destination bakery we remembered it to be. The pain au chocolate used to be HUGE and now it's normal sized. If we lived closer, it'll still be a go to for us but not a place we'd drive way out of the way for anymore. It's on par with a very good bakery closer to home for us. There was a bit of a hiccup in terms of service for us. We ordered 4 pastries (2 of which needed to be heated up) and two coffees - when we got to the cash register, they forgot about the 2 that needed to be heated up. No big deal, we just ran another transaction. But then they forgot about them again! So it took another 10 min because I had to ask about them and then for our pastries to be queued up to be heated. Came here for some coffee since I wasn't sure where to go after my work out class. Service was patient since I wasn't sure what to get. They helped me decide with a monkey bread latte which was pretty good. So far I came back to try it hot and iced. Coffee was good. It's usually busy inside and the waiting area is kind of small but they don't take too long for orders so that's nice. I noticed a 4% surcharge!? I didn't notice anything mentioned on their website about that nor was I informed about any additional charges. I ordered a salted maple latte and a jambon beurre sandwich. These are both delightful! The Jambon Beurre sandwich: salted Vermont butter, Parisian uncured ham, whole grain Dijon (a STAR in this sandwich), and cornichons (gherkins) on fresh ciabatta bread. This is so good, just so so good. The crunchy fresh ciabatta is the cherry on top to a fantastic flavor combo in this sandwich. The cornichons and Dijon add so much to this which really makes it stand out from other ham sandwiches. The salted butter adds this incredible richness that complements the natural salt in ham and adds smooth creaminess to the grainy texture of the Dijon and the crunch of the bread; it sits in the crevices of the ciabatta as it's spread and there is no bite without. It's a wonderfully crafted sandwich by someone who definitely understands flavors. The salted maple latte is very very good as well, I love the gentler- more molasses-y sweetness that doesn't overpower the espresso. Came to Los Gatos after a long time.. Manresa bread is situated on a perfect spot here! Plenty of parking behind the store, and on the street! And what a cute store. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with the most delicious array of breakfast pastries they offer. Each better looking than the other, that picking one was just impossible. The servers were super friendly and service was quick. I started with the Monkey Bread and Cappuccino. Although I'm not a big fan of cinnamon, this is one item I could eat all day everyday! Not too much cinnamon, not too sweet, so soft and flaky, just lovely! I went back and decided to try the blueberry coffee cake and the honey butter corn scone (for an afternoon snack!). I'm a fan! Manresa is a small chain bakery located in the middle of downtown Los Gatos. The place is organized and clean but can get crowded at times. There is minimal inside seating but they added outside seats recently. The staff is friendly and pretty efficient. We got a matcha latte which was pretty good but a tad bit overpriced. Matcha maiko has a better product for the same price. The ham and cheese croissant has a really good flaky texture and excellent flavor. The cheese is amazing and it has a generous amount of ham. The problem is that it's cold even after being warmed up. I'm not sure how to solve the issue but the ham is cold and the bread is warm making it all weird. On a previous visit we got the matcha white chocolate cookie which I honestly can't recommend. Otherwise the place is great. read more

Blessed to have two Manresa within 10 min drive, one in Los Gatos which is the flagship and the other one in Campbell. I go both locations several times a week for years. Coffee is always good, so is their bread and pastry. I don't normally eat bread but must always keep the whole wheat bread in the pantry at all times. Manresa has been well known in the area for a while now, but only in the past couple of months have my husband & I become regulars. A spontaneous pop in last Dec (when our usual cafe was closed) surprised us with excellent coffees and at least 1 vegan baked good (though we wish they'd have more!). Sure the coffees, pastries and bread are pricey (2 almond milk lattes total up to over $14), but that's become pretty standard in the Bay Area. Certainly not a daily visit here with these prices but more like a weekly or every other week "treat yo'self" moment! The delicious coffee most certainly stems from the fact that they use Verve Coffee from Santa Cruz. They've also been selling Cat & Cloud Coffee beans on their merch shelves, also a dope Santa Cruz coffee company! We always bring in our own mugs, but they don't give you a discount for that like other coffee shops do. That one vegan baked good they sell is a chocolate banana bread with coconut chips on top. We personally wish it was just banana bread minus the overpowering chocolate. That might be an unpopular opinion, but not everyone wants chocolate for breakfast lol! Favorite bread is for sure their Multigrain Loaf - great texture and density, and incredible flavor! Inside is minimalistic, clean and very spacious (high ceiling, wooden accents, etc). Though there's only an L-shaped tall counter top by the front window with stools for seating, there are tables right out front in their parklet. Service is typically pretty friendly and fast, maybe catering to a faster-paced get in-get out type of bakery crowd. We'd love it more if they also offered dine-in plates and mugs, but every time we've been there everything gets put in a paper bag and single-use cups (except that we bring our own travel mugs). It was my first time here. I ordered a turkey sandwich on sourdough bread and monkey bread for take out. When I arrived the items were packed and ready to pick up. I love bread and pastries and I had a good feeling this place would be the right choice and it was. The sandwich was so good, mostly because of the bread. It was fresh and just perfect. The monkey bread was also delicious. It wasn't overly sweet. Just the right amount of sweetness and crunch. The store looks nice and clean. They have outdoor seats as well. Really confused by the inefficiency of this place and when you pay that much for bread/pastries, there is a level of expectation in service at the very least and maybe a better layout would help, it seems like a lot of wasted space and its strange you have to remember what you want from the pastries that are around the corner from where you actually order, or make the poor cashier follow you as you point to what you want. We arrived about 30 minutes after they opened on a Saturday - it was pretty empty, one person waiting on a coffee order and another 2 people sitting at the window. We got to the cashier and seemed like a newbie, totally fine - everyone has to learn. He was pleasant! He took our order, missed an item which I corrected when he read back the order and we paid. BTW - no cash accepted, but they have a tip jar for it :|. He did not take our name, just our order. And then we sat there to the side. We did not have a coffee order. No one else was in line. There were 4 people at the coffee bar, 3 people working at the bread counter and 1 poor guy working like crazy on something behind them. After about 5 minutes of this weird waiting, again, no one was in line and no one else was waiting, my husband asked where our order was. The first guy who took our order was then told he needed to gather our order after we placed it by someone training him perhaps? That seems like an important step. And had he been gathering items as we ordered, this whole process would have been a lot quicker and smoother for everyone! Bread was fine - we got a sourdough baguette - it was very hard but good flavor. Multigrain wheat bread - that was tasty, but here we are on day 3 post purchase and its dried out. Croissants - eh, not as flakey or as much chocolate as I would like. Chocolate chip wheat cookies - these had a lot of chocolate and were probably best item per my son, although he would prefer without walnuts. Would I go back? I would not make a special trip to downtown Los Gatos - if I happened to be there and happened to stop by, sure! But beach traffic in the summer keeps us pretty far from downtown. read more

Your entrance clearly states "Service Dogs Only," yet multiple uncontrolled pet dogs are typically allowed inside during all of my visits for a quick coffee. Getting jumped on in line is not something anyone should tolerate hence my review today. They sell food, allowing pets inside without enforcing control standards is both a sanitation and safety issue. As a service dog handler myself, this is not a business I would feel comfortable entering with my clearly labeled and well-behaved service dog. Failing to enforce service-dog-only policies creates an unsafe and irresponsible environment. read more

Get there early! This is a busy great local bakery making breads, pastries and specialty granola and stuff. They also sell coffee, breakfast and lunch prepared food. Great counter service performed by friendly, efficient staff that keeps the line moving...and yes, there is typically a line. Limited seating, this is mostly a grab and go type business. Our favorite is the almond granola and rye bread. Their prepared sandwiches looked good, but we have not tried these offerings. I highly recommend trying. This is definitely a must stop if you are within 10 miles. read more

I literally only tried one item here and so this five stars is for their stellar kouign amann. For the uninitiated, a kouign amann is a croissant but in a different form - more folded in itself almost like a muffin shape and results in a far better crunch to flaky ratio in my opinion. They can be pretty hard to find as most bakeries don't have them, but Manresa not only has them in stock - they have THE butteriest, THE flakiest, and perfectly sweet version of them all. Manresa says they only use European butter and you can definitely tell in their pastries. Logistics wise, it's located in downtown Los Gatos. Parking in the area isn't bad, there are some scattered parking lots parallel to the main road and an underground garage below the Gap / William Sonoma as well. There's outdoor seating, but not too many tables inside. Pricing is a bit high, but if the quality of their other items is anything like the kouign amann, it has to be worth it! read more

My husband and I stopped by for breakfast this past Sunday and we were so disappointed with the quality of the food. Parking: street parking all the way. It's located in Los Gatos downtown so parking will be difficult Ambiance: barely any chairs, no table seating indoors. There's a few bar seats for counter seating. It's meant for a take out spot. There are tables outside the bakery though. Food: poor. We ordered the almond escargot, a Jambon Beurre sandwich, a decaf iced latte and an iced strawberry matcha drink. The almond escargot was severely burnt and the inside was hollow. The sandwich was too salty and the matcha drink tasted like powder and bland. Prices were very expensive given the poor quality and amount of food. On top of the high prices, there's a 4% surcharge for everything to help pay market rate wages for employees which this employer has chosen to shift to customers. Service: poor, I asked for napkins because there were none on the counter and it took over 10 minutes for it. We will not be back as there are way better bakeries in the Bay Area. Manresa bread should have stayed as a stand alone bakery and maintained their quality instead of becoming a chain. read more

Lovely Thursday morning breakfast today!! Enjoyed drip Verve coffee, matcha latte and ham n cheese croissants this morning in the sunshine while seated outside in the park let. Latte was lightly sweetened and very smooth-tasting. Croissant was buttery and flaky filled with about a quarter pound of ham with a decent portion of cheese. Look forward to a return trip to Manresa Bread. Parking in downtown Los Gatos is plentiful. Take advantage of the Free 2 hour street parking or lots behind North Santa Cruz Avenue. (Make sure you don't park in the passenger loading zone in front of the Los Gatos movie theater as parking compliance drove by twice in the hour we were enjoying our breakfast.) read more

Although cashiers were not forward in helping, they were nice throughout transaction. Baristas never made eye contact, maybe because they were ashamed to give me my coffee; it was the worst coffee I've ever purchased. My Americano was so watered down and disappointing. The heart in the foam gave me hope until the first sad sip. How can you sell this as coffee? The pastries are sublime. Coffee is awful. Perhaps you can reevaluate the coffee you are using or the machines. Maybe even the ratio you are using. It was like dirty brown water. We were both disappointed in the coffee. Saturday around 1pm and no line, no crowd. Empty shelves and bare counters so they already sold out of a lot breads and pastries. Ordered a grilled cheese and a plain croissant. Pretty straight forward. Not the best grilled cheese, not the worst. Same with the croissant. Inside there were only counters along the wall with stools that were too short for the counters. Outdoor seating was crowded, as expected on a gorgeous sunny day. Service was friendly but they let someone inside with their dog (not a service dog). That dog kept jumping up and putting their dirty paws on the counters by the registers. (Paws are never clean when walking on any street/sidewalk - even Los Gatos.) The dog owner didn't control their dog and the employees didn't bother disinfecting the countertops... Los Gatos is crowded on the weekends so parking can be a hassle. read more
