Yum! I actually prefer the pasteis de nata at Manteigaria over the ones at Pastéis de Belem. And if you don't have the time to trek out to Belem, don't. Just go to Manteigaria for your pastel de nata fix. The crust is really flaky and buttery. The custard is somehow rich and light at the same time and just barely sweetened. I like mine sprinkled with just a bit of cinnamon and a little powdered sugar. read more

Found this gem thanks to a tour guide recommendation. Of course when in Portugal you must try pastel de nata. And this place was a combination of a few awesome things; fast, inexpensive, and DELICIOUS. My guide went in on a mission to purchase 7 of them for our group, came out in 2 minutes, all for the price of 1 euro each. I recommend sprinkling cinnamon on top. Definitely dont need to try any other places, this was top notch! read more

This was the first thing that I and my husband Michael had as soon as we arrived in Lisbon. Pastel de Nata from here is just amazingly good. Warm and crispy outer cut with light yet rich but not too sweet custard filling inside..... omg omg omg sooooooooo good. Cashiers are friendly and speak in English as well. We turned around and got couple more because they are so yummy. Only 1 Euro each. Go get it now. read more

Cheaper than Pasteis de Belem, Manteigaria is as good as it gets. 1€ for a custard tart and 0.80€ for an expresso. Need I say more? Just come here and pile on the calories. You'll savor every moment. read more

We tried so many Of these delicious Lisbon custard treats that we're now considering buying new clothes . By far, these are the best - flaky on the outside & creamy delicious inside. Plus the Time Out market is so much fun, especially the canned fish tin stand nearby. Unfortunately we already had lunch at LX FACTORY before coming here for these amazing treats, but next time I'd plan on a meal at one of the great smelling adjacent food stalls in the market. read more

I have tried many Pasteis de Nata while living in Lisbon, but this one are the best ones in the whole town. Amazing taste of cream, amazingly crunchy and fresh, just amazing by itself. Also coffee is very good here, espresso I mean, the Portuguese style one. The best way to eat them, is to put cinnamon and eat with spoon first, thats how some locals do it. Espresso and Pasteis de Nata its all you need to start a good day in Lisbon. Totally recommended. read more

I'll start off by saying I did like the tarts at Manteigaria but they aren't the best I had in Lisbon and I honestly would not eat them again. The service was great (I feel like they only had male models working up front which didn't bother me at all) and the tarts were well priced at €1 each. I think they were just a little loose as far as the bake and a little too sweet for me. This is still a Lisbon staple restaurant just not my personal favorite. read more

Sooooo flaky you think it's philo. But they have mastered the flaky ness and to keep it crunchy for over 16 hrs. I had an extra one for breakfast and it was still crunchy. I thought these would be like your dim sum egg tarts but they are not. They are their 3rd cousins. The eggy part is not as eggy, it's a little more runny, and just as sweet. You can top it w cinnamon or have it just as is. You can get a pack of six and not feel guilty since you.ll be walking up and down hills all day. I need a six pack. read more

One of our hostel staff people affirmed that Manteigaria is better than Pasteis de Belem. I still prefer the latter, though of course the former's products are still scrumptious. Manteigaria's custard is more solid than Belem's, if you like that. Manteigaria seems to specialize in pasteis de nata, producing this pastry and this pastry only, which may be noteworthy. read more

My favorite custard shop in Lisbon so far! As I've learned from my time here, the egg custard tart is a traditional/local favorite and all the bakeries seem to make their own variation of this. Manteigaria churns our 90 new tarts every 5 minutes or so and the chances of you getting freshly made tarts is always very high. Ask for the tarts to eat their with a small cafe and milk to snag a standing spot at the counter. Manage this and you get to watch the process that goes into making new tarts! It is quite the show and an excellent after lunch treat or mid-day snack. I have visited each of the 3 days I've been in Lisbon and will be back for more! read more

I was lucky enough to get the tarts when they were relatively fresh out the oven. Crispy, flaky crust with a soft and sweet center. Loved it! Pastel de natas are only €1 each. Please note that there is no seating. You stand and eat or you take your egg tarts away. As it is so close to my hostel, I'm pretty much going here every day while in Lisbon. read more

Unfortunately, this felt like a clear tourist upcharge, which was disappointing given my initial excitement to support the establishment.
