Tucked away in a little community in North Augusta you'll find townhouses and restaurants just feet away from each other. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself was relaxing and made us want to stay all evening. Manuel's brunch was recommended by a friend, but we decided to try their dinner instead. We started with fries & aioli, something good at any restaurant. For the entree Husband got the lamb chops & I got the chicken piccata, both with a side of veggies (pretty much the same exact side for both meals). The lamb chop was on the chewy side with minimal-mild flavor and the chicken piccata was flattened, mild flavored chicken patty. The flavor on the chicken came from the capers/peas (not sure which they are) that we're coated in a seasoning/sauce that was delicious. Both dishes on the $$$ side, so it was rather disappointing when the meals didn't measure up. A big let-down of the evening was the hospitality. Our server didn't read us the specials, bring us the bread until after our meal was in front of us, and asked us questions from across the patio such as "are you ready to order? Can I get you anything else? Would you like dessert?" It was disappointing because another server was so helpful to the couple of tables directly next to us. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and not write them off based on this one experience. First time there, for dinner...fantastic! 10 Stars! Great first-impression restaurant of Augusta. (Daily specials vary.) I had the pan-seared trout salad, and my friend had the steak salad. Both were extremely delicious. The atmosphere is very comfortable, clean, and attractive, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is great. I thought of it as my "Number One" Augusta restaurant! BUT...went for Sunday brunch, and it was a huge letdown. My poached eggs on artichoke hearts (with half a teaspoon of creamed spinach each egg)--the most expensive egg dish on the menu at $15--was cold, as well as the home potatoes...and my friend's entire breakfast was cold...but he ate his anyway because they don't open til 10, and we were ravenius. I asked my server to microwave-reheat my food, but they made a whole new plate of food. I got half the amount of potatoes this time, the same 1/2 teaspoon of creamed spinach, (even though they had brought extra on the first plate, per my request)...and it was ALL still cold!! VERY DISAPPOINTING! Plus, I'd ordered a $10 Bloody Mary, but they neglected to tell me there was no vodka in it--just sake. REALLY?! This was a really nice change. I'm absolutely in love with the neighborhood that this restaurant is in. On to the review. This place is a cute little quaint spot with inside and outside seating. Tonight was such a beautiful fall night to eat outside but we opted to eat inside because we reserved a table. The menu is small but the specials list offered just as much as the main menu. We were sure of what we wanted until we heard the specials. Mister chose the rack of lamb with mashed potatoes and veggies. I chose a sweet shrimp and peppered fettuccini dish with lobster fumet. Service was good. For an appetizer we ordered the Poutine a la Manuel- fries covered with gravy, mushrooms, onions, andouille sausage and cheese. Insanely good. Our entrees arrived and I was sad for hubby. Mister is used to healthy portions. These portions were lightweight. He loved his dish though and thought everything was fresh tasting and well prepared. I found my portion of pasta to be adequate. The shrimp were truly fresh and the fettuccini were quite peppery. I found my dish to be...an acquired taste. I don't know if it was the lobster fumet or not but I can't say I would order it again. It didn't taste bad, just not something I'd order again. We decide to grab 2 desserts to go. Mister chose a sweet potato pound cake and I chose a slice of chocolate peanut butter cake. I've tasted a bit of both before writing this. The pound cake is good. I love this quaint eatery! Manuel's Bread Cafe is one of my favorite local restaurants. I've been here on several occasions, but only for lunch. I used to work close to the downtown area and I'd pop over to Manuel's Bread Cafe to avoid the lunch rush of other restaurants. This cafe is located in North Augusta, SC, which is just over the 13th Street Bridge that connects South Carolina and Georgia. It is located in the beautiful Hammond's Ferry community. The location is why it's a great lunch spot, not too many people know about it. Recently, I visited for dinner and it was AMAZING! The cafe was actually open on Christmas Eve and a friend and I rushed over to grab a bite. For starters, the service at the cafe is awesome. The wait staff greeted us and right away our waitress had water for us. I love that because even if you do want to grab a different drink later, water is always good for starters. She returned with an electronic wine menu, which was pretty fancy. We looked over the menu, which differed from the lunch menu and nothing jumped out at us. Our waitress returned and shared with us the specials and we listened with our mouths watering. That night, they had at least 7 specials and she remembered each one and gave us a very detailed account of how each dish was prepared. I was really impressed. I ordered the Flounder with couscous and asparagus and my friend ordered the Lamb. Both were cooked to perfection. Additionally, the waitress shared that many of the vegetables and ingredients were grown in the Hammond's Ferry neighborhood garden. How cool? It's always great to eat locally grown. I had no room for the dessert. I really wanted dessert, but my friend ordered the Red Velvet cake. I had a bite and it was the bomb! Manuel's Bread Cafe has a great selection of desserts and if I had room, I would have ordered the Chocolate Chip Cheesecake. But I'll have to wait until my next visit. The cafe has outdoor eating space, which has umbrellas and an awning. The cafe is small and very romantic. I believe it is French inspired. If you are looking for a great meal, you must start here. This is was my first time eating at Manuel's Cafe. One of the members of my book club picked this restaurant for our monthly meeting. It's tucked away in a nice little neighborhood. The restaurant is small and intimate. They have outdoor seating as well which would be nice when it's not so hot or humid. Mary was our waitress and she was excellent! We enjoyed having her. She's very knowledgable of the menu and gave great suggestions. I ordered the flounder and it was superb. The founder was very meaty. I subbed the rice for mash potatoes. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We ordered dessert as well. You can either get a whole slice of cake or half a slice. I thought the half slice option was nice if you just wanted sample or didn't want a big piece. They have a sampler that comes with 3 slices of cake and/or cheesecake. We went with the sampler. Sweet & Salty, carrot cake and plain cheesecake. The sweet & salty was to salty. We were able to trade it out for the red velvet. Which was rich and creamy. Overall I enjoyed the entire meal. Manuel's Cafe is a delicate taste of the South but be prepared to wait for seating and spotty service. Luckily the food will save your day faster than a priest on Sunday. You must order the grits! These are the second best shrimp and grits ($11.95) I have had, EVER! They are creamy and packed with flavor but I suspect that is from the puddle of butter on the top. The sausage gravy added a lot of flavors but I can say I wasn't a fan of the fries because they were pretty cold and the biscuit was like a rock. What happened to crumbling buttermilk biscuits? The Pork Chop ($11.95) was tender with a drip of juicy flavor in every bite. The bone adds a mountain of flavor and keeps everything moist. I was pretty sad that it only took my around five bites to finish it, but that's just because ate it like a wolverine. My waiter was really nice and fast but the other staff the was seating us didn't communicate very well. I walked in and waiting without any acknowledgement for at least 5 minutes while being walked past. After I verified I was waiting to be seated, I waited another 20 minutes before being spoke to again. It was super frustrating! I know they were busy, but at least let me know you realize I still exist periodically. This place would be a five star if the service was better. read more

I went to Manuel's on a busy Saturday night, of course making reservations for two. We arrived and were immediately seated, but the seating arrangement is my biggest recommended area of improvement. I'm not a fan of the long booth seat with several small 2-person tables jammed closed together. There's not a lot of space in the restaurant so I understand why they laid it out like this, but the people next to us were a part of our conversation whether they liked it or not (and vice versa). Maybe more of a big group setting than a date night setting. Our server was very busy but did his best to keep up with us. We got a bottle of wine (they have an iPad with a "sommelier" app that tells you what to pair food with, which I would find very tacky if I was a wine person. Fortunately I'm not and thought the wine was great regardless of how we more or less randomly chose it) and the big 30 oz steak for two, which was cooked to a delicious medium rare. It was served with bread, vegetables, and potatoes and was more than enough food for two people. Service was a little rushed/awkward...they brought the food out on a platter that took up half the table, so we scrambled to clear glasses/salt/pepper/candles to make room for it. There were a lot of items on the "Specials" board that interested me, and I kind of wish I could just sample them (duck wings? kangaroo? where do you even purchase this meat?). We returned the next day to try the creme brulee and it was phenomenal. I will absolutely go back, but maybe for an appetizer to eat outside on a nice day. I'm not an Augusta local but I can surely bet Maneul's is probably one of the best eateries in the city. Well technically it's not in Augusta, and is actually located in N Augusta SC. And that's a good thing. The surrounding area is beautiful, with gorgeous houses and swamps. The restaurant itself is nestled in the stunning neighborhood and hence is free from too much traffic. The outdoor seating is great. The service is very friendly and our server was very down to earth. Good recommendations; Salmon burger. We did have the aged beef burger too and was quite good but the side salad wasn't all that great. Cons; the fries had too much salt. The buns of the salmon burger had too much sauce. I've eaten here several times and always found the food to be fresh and well prepared. But, tonight I had a meal that was truly outstanding. My husband and I shared the Steak au Poivre for two. It was 30 ounces of ribeye steak coated in a peppercorn cognac sauce and served on a wooden board alongside au gratin potato and fresh vegetables from their farm. The steak was grilled perfectly medium rare and tender. Along with the snap of the peppercorns and the rich, full beef flavor, the tart yet creamy sauce all worked together and were remarkable. The potatoes were creamy and cheesy, the veggies al dente. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Fairly priced, too, at 49.95 and a generous portion, to boot! Arrived for a late breakfast after browsing through the Augusta farmers market on Saturday morning. The street wasn't busy so parking was easy; though, I bet it gets difficult on Sunday's for brunch. The decorations are beautiful both exterior and interior, and I caught myself staring at the details. The host and seating is unusual; they just loaf around at the bar and not pay attention to whoever walks in. Shouldn't they have a podium based on other reviewers? Menu was concise and looked great; however, the waitress read off the long special menu, and we chose the Kobe burger and the steak and iceberg. The burger was fatty but delicious. The fries were fresh and salted well. The steak was cooked the way I requested and the components of the iceberg lettuce wedge was balanced. So the food: We all split the fries appetizer which was yummy! My mom and I shared the Chicken Piccata, and the split plate was delicious and plenty of food, especially with dessert to look forward to! My sister ordered the Blue Clay Farm Salad and was disappointed with the variety of vegetables on the salad (expecting locally grown veggies, and received a salad with tomato and onion). She sent it back and ordered the French Style Greek salad, and really enjoyed it! My dad ordered the Tomato Caprese Salad and the French Onion Soup-- he loved both. And my brother in law ordered a pasta of the day and said it was great! Dessert was delicious and we loved all of the cakes we tried-- only negative comment is that the salted caramel cake is almost too salty! Overall, a great place! This is hands down my favorite restaurant in the Augusta area, after living here for a little over a year. Yes... I'm hedging because there are plenty of places on the list still to visit. Regular meals and brunch are both great, the location is terrific and not noisy or overrun with traffic. The specials change regularly and have all been great. Fresh ingredients... Well prepared... This place was awful. Everything was over salted and over priced. I don't mind spending $17 on a blue crab salad, what I mind is spending $17 on a salad that's inedible. I got a Croque Monsieur as my entree and the sauce was made with the wrong cheese. Honestly I had a better Croque Monsieur for 3€ at a gas station in France. I usually give places 2nd and 3rd chances, but the food was so awful I'm never going back. It ended up being $60 total for the meal and I felt like I took two bites of everything and everything was awful. Whenver I'm having a bad day, I mentally go to Manuel's. It's also been one of my special occasion go-tos for years because it's truly a one-of-a-kind gem in the CSRA's restaurant scene. For starters, the location is perfect- Hammond's Ferry is the perfect unexpected gem right over the river, and I could sit outside at Manuel's all day, taking in the Charlestonian atmosphere and greenery. At my most recent visit, however, I chose to sit inside (Georgia weather in March is never predictable), and I loved the environment there as well- they had old movies and jazz music playing, and with the candle and lamp lighting, I couldn't have felt more relaxed. Or so I thought! The server, April, was very warm and attentive yet knew when to give us space to enjoy our meal. She sold us on a bottle of Chardonnay (after allowing us to sample a couple of options to ensure that we were satisfied before selecting!) and one of the specials for the evening, Steak Diane, which was cooked with love and skill and accompanied by a delicious variety of potatoes and fresh vegetables. We also got the charcuterie board and some fries to enjoy beforehand. Would highly recommend the red pepper aioli that accompanies several of the appetizers! The dinner flowed smoothly, there was never a lack of food or beverage, and we felt both appreciated and welcomed as guests in Manuel's unique and tranquil world. It was like we had taken a trip elsewhere and escaped the hustle and bustle of our week, from beginning to end! Fantastic! I've been to Manuel's a couple times for lunch when I came into town for work in Augusta after taking a hike along the Greenway. But this time, it was just so fantastic... I'm writing this during the Covid - 19 crisis I was really stressed out about having to eat take out in my hotel every night. So today, I flew in to Augusta... Went to the Greenway to take a walk. Remembered Manuel's... I got take out Beef Bourguignon with mash potatoes..asparagus Very flavor-able, tender meat, yummy taters The salad... OMG... Very fresh lettuces, asparagus, avocado, tomato, cucumbers, red onion golden beets, the dressing was a wonderful light, slightly tangy vinagarette. I came here with a couple of other people on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. We decided on the brunch buffet which was $14.95. There were bacon, eggs, grits, French toast, fruit, and pastries. The bacon and eggs were ok, French toast was slightly burnt, and a couple of the pastries were pretty good. The food was all hot and fresh, but overall it was quite expensive for $15 for nothing out of the ordinary for breakfast. The service was great, atmosphere and neighborhood are literally picture perfect, but I'd probably try something else next time! read more

I "discovered" this signature restaurant via Google Maps. I got dressed up & my husband and I took the 30 minute trip out here on a kid-free weekend for brunch. I couldn't be more disappointed. I seen almost all the servers and a few of the cooks eating while on the job. Servers seating guests with a cheek full of food. I sat against the wall, facing the kitchen, so I seen more than my husband could. I hate to be the bitch who complains about the food as soon as it's delivered, but when I seen a server wipe sweat off of his face twice, sneak a quick bite of toast, then bring us our food without washing his hands?
