My first visit was to the downtown Seattle location which I found better than this UVill location. Chicken here was just dry. I had to soak my chicken in sauce to finish it simply because it was so rough. Came around 6:30 PM and it wasn't too busy so I can reason to myself that maybe the chicken was sitting for a while. To be fair I did get my order pretty fast (chicken fingers) whereas my friends took longer (drumsticks). One friend who came for the first time noted that the drumsticks were comparable to grocery store drumsticks. He did opt for mild but simply because he had no expectations. He also said he would get medium next time. I did get medium and I enjoyed the seasoning along with the crispy, crunchiness, but that wasn't enough to sway me. Another thing to note is that the chicken sandwich is pretty mediocre at the price point. For $11 you can get a sandwich that's slightly above Chick-fil-a but worse than other places like Popeyes. But then you could compare quantities, would you rather eat one "above average" sandwich or multiple mediocre (if that's what you think) ones? Overall I've been disappointed at Ma'ono both the downtown location and the UVill location. The hype might play a factor as it creates expectations and if it doesn't live up to that hype, that's a big hit. Service was good. I take issue with the price for the quality. Chicken was dry and not brined or seasoned apart from the sauce they throw it in after frying. The potato Mac salad was inedible old hard pasta covered in mayonnaise. Ranch was fine. For all the hype, I'm kind of shocked? One thing I will say I liked was the pickled daikon. Hands down THE BEST chicken sandwich I've had in my life (not kidding). There's something about this place... their fried sandwich is just *chef's kiss* I always recommend Ma'ono if I'm in Uvillage and need a quick bite to eat, but I definitely want to stop by their other locations too!! You have to order the fries separately and the side of pickles, then get a drink from Rachel's Ginger Beer while you're waiting. Honestly the food is just as good as I remembered. The workers were nice and helpful. Although it took a minute for the food to get out it wasn't long and it was hot and fresh!! I think they are known for spicy chicken so I went with the mild. The mild still had a kick to it but dipped in ranch and it was just right. We were trying to figure out what side dish to get and wanted to try something different so the employee talked us into the Mac & Kimcheese. I was hesitant cause I wasn't too sure about Kimcheese. Delicious fried chicken sandwiches - crispy crunchy well seasoned with spices on the outside and juicy on the inside perfectly balanced with daikon pickle and ice berg lettuce with mayo.. this is one addictive sandwich and even though i was stuffed after eating an entire sandwich i nudged by husband to share another sandwich with me - It was that good! We chose the "hot" sauce and it was really good and spicy (just the way we wanted it) We ordered their potato mac salad which was good and the fries were divine! They were crunchy even 30mins into our meal - kind of like fatter potato chips in the shape of potato fries and well seasoned.. Went there twice, the second time to confirm this place wasn't great. Both times ordered medium spice chicken tenders. First time, they were too salty to eat. I'm someone who normally has to add a lot of salt to things, so it's not like I'm sensitive. My wife also confirmed that they were inedibly salty. We gave them another try a few weeks later since we'd heard good things about them (maybe it was a fluke). Second trip it took 30 minutes to get an order of chicken tenders (I don't write reviews based on service since it can be pretty variable... the two stars is entirely because of the food). Still really salty, but not inedibly so this time (ringing endorsement! It wasn't inedible!). Tenders were pretty dry also. Kalbi dipping sauce was way heavier on the soy than I'd like. They've got pretty good reviews, so maybe I was just unlucky, or maybe all of the other spice levels are better than the medium. Hope you have a better experience than we did. read more

Would I come again and pay $12 for a fried chicken sandwich? Probably not. Was it worth the first time visit? Yep. 4 stars for taste, 3 stars for price. I personally think the price is a little steep for what it is, but it's worth trying at least once. Instead of the traditional pickles in a chicken sandwich, there is yellow daikon, which I didn't really like but everyone else enjoyed. There is also classic mayo on the sandwich but I would ask for less mayo since they do kind of pile it on. The fries are pretty good since they are seasoned well and are crispy (but not overdone). We ordered a medium spiced sandwich and found that it was not spicy at all, not even a kick. A couple people in our group ordered the spiciest sandwich as a result of losing a bet and we expected them to be in pain and run to the Molly Moon's nearby as relief. I do want to try the hot hot hot, but kinda scared how spicy it would be hahah I do think this is one of the best fried chicken sandwich in Seattle area that I've tried so far! After tonight's experience, finally decided to call it a loss after giving Maono a handful of tries. After reading the reviews we've gone here for a quick bite and drinks and honestly the quality and service has gone down hill. A few months ago we went here and saw they had run out of chicken. And surprisingly nowhere near the time of closing. A month before that, the strips were really dry. The time before that, the fries a served cold. But continued going because it was quick service for a chance at well seasoned chicken. Tonight was all service. Couldn't even make it to the eating part! We walked in and it was a pretty slow night. Everybody looked like they either got their order or has already ordered and waiting for food. No line! Got up to the kiosk to order and saw a handwritten sign to order via DoorDash on the tablet. Was in the middle of downloading the app, and saw two guys approach the line and ended up ordering from the kiosk, we lined up and as soon as she started ringing up the first person... then she rang up the 2nd guy and when it was our turn, walked away as we approached again to order. Thought "oh maybe she'll come back" since she saw us. Stood there for a couple of minutes as her and another employee walked back and forth past us. The kiosk was still facing us so I wasn't sure if we were supposed to enter in our orders or what? So I got to the part where our orders were on the screen ready to pay but waited until til acknowledged... But the same lady that took the two other peoples orders had to bring an order out and as she walked behind us had the audacity to walk by behind us and say "Well that's not ordering online" and continued to walk back into the back. There is a door bell to ask for service... but do we really need to press the button if you were already serving/ringing up two others before us? Do we need to press the button when you've walked by us 3 times after? Clearly they're not pressed for business, so we just took ours elsewhere and definitely didn't need to order online when there are people working the place. read more

They're onto something here. Dropped in around dinner time when everything in Uvillage had a good wait time. You order food at the counter and they give you a number. Opted for the sandwich and partner order the tenders, and we shared Mac salad and fries. The chicken was tasty! Crispy, seasoned well, and moist. I'm a big fan of pickles and their daikon pickles are awesome. Fries were done right and Mac salad was tasty as well. But honestly, I don't know if the sandwich is worth the price, when you could get the three tenders for less (comes with pickles too). The bbq sauce is good and the hot-honey mustard was a pleasant surprise, the "hot" is a wasabi-like kick which I personally enjoy. Drinks were great too, as I'm a big fan of mules so mixing and matching my favorite spirit to a ginger beer flavor is genius. I will say there should be some sort of quality check, one of the chicken tenders was straight up naked. I mean how does that ever make it in the box? I didn't bother asking them to fix it but I think it definitely would've been better spicy as it didn't have any outstanding flavors. The chicken itself is a great size and fried oh so crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. I've seen people remove a star for grease and I scratch my head because keywords "fried". The sandwich has these amazing sweet pickles and some kind of onions (I think). I was too busy stuffing it down my face to remember the details. I love the idea of using daikon to replace the pickles (personally not a huge fan). I really enjoy the mayonnaise in the sandwich. The fried chicken in the sandwich and fingers were good but the meat was a bit more dry (the mayonnaise helped). The French fries were covered in seasoning but it was not salty at all. The size and crisp of the French fries was perfect. The mac & kimcheese was good; only mild hint of kimchi or gochugaru, wish the taste was a bit stronger. read more

Everything you should know: This is next to the Uvill Main Starbucks. It's hard to spot since the Ma'ono sign is not in the front. It's actually inside this cute window where you have a couple options to choose from. I've never ordered the burgers, but have gotten the chicken strips and the chicken drumsticks. I prefer the drumstick over the chickstrip, because it is much more moist. They have three levels... I love spicy food and have tried the extremely hot and the hot. DO NOT GET THE EXTREMELY HOT!! The drinks at the bar are good!! I've only ordered the ginger beers which are non alcoholic. It's super delicious and I'm a huge fan of Ginger Beers. I got the guava flavor and taste tested the caramelized pineapple. The price is too much. 6$ for a 12 oz and $8 for a 20 oz. Ma'ono has been in my "Places to Try in Seattle" Yelp bookmarks for, literally, ages. So imagine my delight when, during a recent holiday shopping excursion to U-Village, I realized this legendary little chicken shop was nearby. We weren't super hungry so we shared an order of their chicken "fingers" which were more like chicken hands they were so big! We also ordered a side of fries, and got a couple of ginger beer cocktails from Rachel's to enjoy while we ate. There was so much food we could barely finish it. The chicken was phenomenal - everything I'd read about, and more. It was coated in a spicy breading (we got the medium, but you can go more mild or more wild) and the chicken on the inside was moist, hot, and flavorful. A tiny window to the side of the Rachel's Ginger Beer counter is Ma'ono. Simple menu offering fried chicken in drumstick $9, tenders $8, or sandwich $10 or $11 format, served with housemade pickled daikon and your choice of heat and dipping sauce. For vegetarians, you can get fried tofu instead of chicken. Sides include fries, Hawaiian potato salad, pickled cucumbers or daikon. We got one of each, medium heat (dusted with cayenne) but one got the HOT, which was dusted with habanero and other spicy stuff. The HOT chicken was sandwiched between a fluffy sweet Hawaiian bun, some letuce and the daikon. I very much enjoyed my chicken tender. Good crispy breading with thick layer of flavor. The spicy was a good heat. The bf's HOT sandwich was quite spicy. Beware of accidentally breathing on the spicy dust - painful! The hot honey mustard is a yummy sauce by beware it has that wasabi-like kick of horseradish. The Hawaiian sauce is a sweet and sour type sauce and I forgot the 3rd sauce as we didn't try it. The chicken sandwich is THICK and MOIST! I love the option to add spice to the chicken. I got HOT and it was enough for me. I feel like only the spawn of Satan could get HOT HOT. The pickles are very crunchy and sweet. If sweet relish isn't your thing then don't get these pickles. The fries are CWISPY!!! Do yourself a favor and at-least get the fries. This place gets a 4/5 because of the sweet pickles and the lettuce used on the sandwich. The sandwich has a McDonalds feel because of the lettuce they use.
