I'm from the south where BBQ is a staple, but this was pretty good. The fries were delicious- I don't know what's in their seasoning but I want it. The cornbread was definitely a dessert- it's glazed and sweet. Service was fast despite the area being packed. Cool little spot to hang outside! Would visit again for sure!

Final Dine LA deal at grand central market of the day. We got the birria tacos, and they were super flavorful and (hate to use this word, but) juicy. Not too salty, just a tad wet. Cute outdoor space and quick service.

I was in need of a quick lunch and decided to check out this barbecue spot. There was a lunch menu with a great deal of $20 and I ordered the Bbq Chicken Club with your choice of side dish. I asked which side was the most popular and the cashier said they were all good lol unfortunately, he wasn't too excited to provide details so I went with the Mac n cheese. The service is not efficient, it took about 15-20 minutes to get my order. The group I was with ordered the same special I did and we found that the ingredients in the club sandwich were not consistent. One sandwich had green tomatoes and avocado and another had no avocado or green tomato at all. The chicken breast was smoked and had great flavor however, it was over cooked! The sourdough bread was too toasty and extremely hard to bite into and fell apart too easily. I wasn't impressed with anything except that the Mac n cheese was decent. I definitely won't be back . If you're looking for a great barbecue meal go to Moos Craft in Lincoln Heights!

I ordered the Combo Plate #1 with Brisket, Mac N Cheese, and Fries. The Brisket was amazing, super soft and tender with great flavor. The bbq sauce is also very good, I would recommend to ask for extra since the meat doesn't come with bbq sauce on top already. The Mac N Cheese was good, I wish it was more thick and creamy, but mine was a bit more watery than cheesy. That being said it was still a good choice for a side. The Fries had a good crunch and well seasoned, another great choice for a side. The Corn bread was pretty average, I wouldn't go out of my way for it. That being said it wasn't a super dry corn bread either, it was a bit moist with some flavor, but still pretty basic. It comes with the combo and it's a nice shareable size. The ambiance is nice and casual with good music, definitely a good hangout spot. They have a good bar with a nice selection of beer. I came when there were only a couple people so I got fast service.

Oh goodness. I am not a fan of BBQ meats but for Dine In LA summer 2025, Maple Block featured a Tri-Tip Sando and drink for $15! That tri-tip was so succulent, juicy, melt-in-your mouth that I ordered another for dinner! This is a special menu for Dine In LA only and it had a brioche bun, tri-tip, with onion rings, spicy BBQ sauce, and pickles inside the sando. The whole thing came together for a delicious combo. Outside of Dine In LA, the closest to this would be the brisket. There is plenty of tables on the patio and when I was there, the LAFD ladder truck was also there. Where LAFD eats is a good indicator of good food.

This place was delicious and fantastic to eat at. Not only are they situated right in downtown LA across from Angels flight. But they have a wonderful outdoor seating area and fantastic food. My husband and I had the unexpected pleasure of dining here before an event. The service was fantastic, and the food was way better than we had anticipated. Great place to go with friends for a casual evening.

The food was DELICIOUS. I tried a 1/4 rack of the baby back ribs with their spicy honey glaze. And tried a side of their mac n cheese. The cheese crumbles on top were delicious! The bar tender that took my order was super friendly and helpful. The food came out rarely quick, hot, and fresh! It is outdoor seating but they have music on, and sports playing on their TVs. It's a super awesome vibe. This is my second time here...I had to come back!

I visited this place yesterday (Friday) night because my friend was craving Southern BBQ. This eatery is part of Grand Central Market, which makes it a fun place to visit. Seating is all outdoors. Grand Central Market has a parking garage that charges $7 for the first 90 minutes; which isn't too bad. I thought the food was just okay though. Everything came out cold. My friend and I shared a combo plate consisting of tri tip, beef brisket, ranch beans, and mac and cheese. We also ordered an addition 1/4 rack of ribs. The tri tip was the best meat. It was soft and well-flavored. The beef brisket was super fatty, like 70% fat and 30% muscle; I did not like it. The ribs were overly seasoned, tough, and sooooo salty. The ranch beans were pretty good and spicy. The Mac and cheese did not stand out.

I was hoping for some BBQ that slapped but I was met with a dry taco. Seeing a sign for $3 brisket tacos on a Tuesday, I decided to give it a shot. While I waited for my order, I sat outside in the patio area where it wasn't too crowded and relaxing with shading provided by umbrellas. Tables were clean as well. After a few minutes, I received the taco I was promised. Upon first look, it looks good and clean. But looking at the meat, there was just none of the fatty juicy parts of brisket to truly make it that brisket experience. My suspicions were confirmed when I took one bite. All dry. I ended up drowning the entire taco in salsa Verde to make it paletable. What an unfortunate let down. Maybe their other cuts are good but this one tiny brisket taco experience was not.

Maple Block continues to serve up good Texas BBQ. It is on the cusp of commercial and craft. Meats are hinted with smoke and tenderness is shy or an hour or two to perfection. Cuts are usually delivered with care. End pieces are not too dried out or taste like it was reheated. Service is quick and dependent on availability and crowd. Order from the bar and wait for your pager to shake while sipping a good beer. Seating is outdoor only unless you find yourself inside the market. It's noisy and sometimes the music is a bit unsavory.

I forgot they had this location at Grand Central Market! Speedy service & tasty bbq that's sooo much closer to me than their west side location. We ordered the brisket plate with fries & Mac & cheese on the side. Brisket was great but maybe a little too lean which dried it out a bit. Bludso's brisket remains the best in town IMO! But the Mac & cheese here tops theirs so it balances out a bit.

I crave a thick juicy burger from time to time and so I wander to this Maple Block Meat Co. from time to time. The smashburgers get old for me sometimes. Unfortunately, they're inconsistent with their burger and service here is absent minded and they lack any care. The Block Burger.. 8 oz burger, thick not smashed, with American cheese, onion, pickles on a sesame potato bun has potential. You just don't know how over or undercooked this burger is but overall, the flavor is good at best. The service here is bad. On a recent visit on a slow and cold evening, I waited 30 minutes for a burger only to ask while others were waiting around. Until I saw others receive their order before me, I started to inquire and the burger was ready a while back. The chef indicated I was fob was buzzed and said he knew it was broken. If there was a bit of care, he should of called it out. I complained to the manager who is also the bartender who gave no apology and made an excuse that the buzzer was broken with a bit of arrogance. Honestly, this guy here is a piece of work. Every time I've been here, he ignores patrons who want to order and he cares more to finish off his conversations at the bar rather than take orders (on every occasion). Not even sure why I tip. This was my last visit.

This Maple Block Meat Co is located at Grand Central Market, opposite side of Egg Sluts. What is nice is that there is dog friendly, outdoor seating available (although this seating is for anyone who visits Grand Central Market and is not exclusive to just Maple Block Meat Co). My husband, our little girl dog and I came for a visit this past Saturday, around 11:05 am. We were greeted by a friendly employee behind the counter. We ended up purchasing: MadeWest Pale Ale- My husband ordered this beer. I didn't like this beer that much but I am limited to a few types of beers that I like. My husband liked his beer though. Schoner Tag (Hefewizen)- I like German beer, the floral taste is really nice for me and I feel that it is smooth and quite drinkable. This beer was good and easy to drink. Loaded Brisket Fries, $16 prior to tax- My husband decided to get an order of fries and though it would be even better to get the loaded fries (originally he was just thinking about just a side of regular fries because it's always better not to drink on an empty stomach). These fries were good but a little spicy, probably from the chipotle aioli and the jalapeno. But I am not much of a spicy eater. My husband, who does like to eat spicy foods, thought it was just fine. The portion size was plenty for the 2 of us to share (and our little girl got a few bites of the plain fries). --------------------------------- (Total= $37.23 after tax, prior to tip) Wait time was about 15 minutes for our food. We were given our beers after we paid at the register. We were also given a small pager to let us know when our food would be ready to pick up at the pick up window. The employee who took our order gave us a few tasters to try of the different beers before deciding on what to order. He was very nice and patient as I was trying to decide what beer I'd like best. The employee at the pick up window was also very nice. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would consider coming back. read more

Had to get my meat for dinner so I sampled the smoked Tri-tip with a side of slaw. Both were really good. It's takeout, but the service was friendly and quick. It's an outdoor venue for the most part so you have to deal with whatever you get in DTLA. I love BBQ except for the prices, which keeps me from eating it very often. No complaints on the food though. read more

Do not order for delivery from here. They will make sure you get the worse quality since you may not be able to go to them and complain. The Mac and cheese is the worst I've ever had. It's chalky and bland. Needs cream and seasonings. The wings were bland and slightly underdone. The ribs ( normally good in house) were so dry. They sent me the burnt end of the rack and 2/3 were completely inedible. The burger was also bland and for a 330pm order, they need to clean the grill. No way the char should be that bad. Maybe they were just having an off day, but the meat was fatty and chewy. I'd expected much more in terms of flavor and preparation. Prices were insanely high for the quality served and I wasn't a huge fan of the service either. Much better dining options here! read more

Been wanting to try Maple Block ever since they opened. Wife and I went downtown to visit the Broad museum, then decided on a bite and a brew here after taking Angels Flight down to GCM. We were going to share a brisket plate, but the server recommended the special beef rib, not on the menu. "It's HUGE" she says I go "ok, how much is that?" She says "$15." I say "ok we'll try that, with a side of fries." I pay and am walking away when I stop in my tracks and think about the total, which was $88 before tip. I'm adding in my head... two beers, one big rib and an order of fries... no way. I turn around, thinking she forgot to cancel the brisket plate maybe?. No. Turns out she didn't say $15 for the rib, she said $50. Yep, $50 for one rib. I say, well ok it better be good. And HUGE. Long story short it was big, and good. Very good. Smokey, fatty, meaty, tender. But not $50 good. Anyways, hence the 4 star review. I loved the outdoor ambiance, the service and the beer and food. The pickles were good too. The bbq sauce was oddly thin and too sweet. An ok experience, but in the end, I felt a little ripped off. read more

When checking this place out I saw how expensive it was and it kind of intrigued me because I thought maybe this is just like the best meat in the world. I was ready to be disappointed but Maple Block delivered. The brisket was so moist and bursted with flavor. I liked the peppercorns on the outside. With some of the pickles onions, cucumbers and spicy barbecue sauce it was like a flavor party. You have to get the beans it you're getting a side. They were perfect. If you're still concerned about the price, you can probably share some shareables with some friends to cut the costs a bit. read more

Such a vibe! Came to Maple Block right after the World Series Rally Celebration and wow -- what a perfect move! The staff was so friendly and on top of everything, even with the crowd rolling in. Service was quick, the food hit the spot, and the whole place had such a great, laid-back energy. You can tell they love what they do. Ever since watching Master of None, I've been obsessed with trying to find a reliable place for smoked wings with white sauce. It was a feature of the Nashville episode and they made it look so appealing that I immediately put it on my must-try list. Happily I found a place in Maple Block Meat Company that has some effing fantastic smoked wings with. Succulent, moist, meaty--these wings are impeccable. I probably could have scarfed the twelve pack instead of the six pack without much strain. But having only six was kind of worth it because it made me savor every bit all the time I was getting full. That white sauce was the perfect accompaniment. It was creamy, robust, and sticky. You only needed to brush it onto the wings to get a full bounce of flavor to adhere to each bite. I love it. Also, that was some pretty kickass cornbread with sweet butter drizzle. I was considering getting the Mac before I talked to the worker who convinced me the cornbread was the correct option. I would order loaves of the stuff if I could. All in all, I will definitely be coming back here whenever I'm near the Ahmanson or Mark Taper. Till then I'll just dream of drowning in smoked wings, white sauce, and cornbread. read more

A few places were offering a special DineLa lunch special so decided to try this place. You get a $1 off on the tri tip sandwich. It was OK, if a little pricey. It came topped with pickles and a couple of onion rings.Regularly $16, for dine LA it was $15. You order at the bar, and are given a buzzer to pick up your order. Lots of outdoor seating. read more

The cornbread bibingka was also really good. It felt like the perfect mix of classic cornbread and bibingka, slightly sweet and soft, and the sugar on top was a nice touch. Portions were solid too. My husband and I had enough leftovers for the next day. Overall, really glad we finally got to try it, and we would definitely love to try more of their dishes someday.

Back in the day, you had to get there early because the place STAYED PACKED, and their ribs were THEE reason to go. They were hands down some of the best ribs I ever had as a kid. They put me on. Fast forward 15-20 years later, and today was my first time coming back since my teenage years. I tried calling ahead to place an order, but couldn't get through. Honestly, that didn't surprise me because Woody's was always busy. I figured it was still the same old Woody's. Then I pulled into the parking lot around 6 PM on a Thursday. Immediately, there was parking available. That alone felt odd. No line. Plenty of parking. Not a single customer inside. That should have been my first sign. We ordered beef ribs, sliced brisket, mac and cheese, and dessert. They were out of the banana pudding, so we settled for peach cobbler. The total was around $50, which isn't bad for dinner for two. The excitement really started to hit when we got home and opened everything up. Unfortunately, that's when reality set in. The mac and cheese was terrible. Completely flavorless, watery, and mushy. The pasta was so overcooked it practically fell apart and blended together like baby food. It tasted old and had absolutely no seasoning or richness whatsoever. First and last time ordering that. Next was the brisket. The slices were gray, dry, and looked like they'd been sitting around for a while. I took one bite and immediately said, "Absolutely not." Another disappointment. But I wasn't too worried yet because I came for one thing: THE RIBS. The flavor was actually still there. The sauce and seasoning reminded me of the Woody's I remembered. BUT THE TEXTURE... A completely different story. The ribs weren't tender, weren't juicy, and definitely weren't falling off the bone. They were tough enough that I found myself working for every bite. At that point, the empty parking lot, empty dining room, and lack of lines made a lot more sense. By the end of the meal, I ended up rinsing the remaining ribs off so my dog could enjoy them as a chew toy. What hurts most isn't the bad meal--it's seeing what was once a legendary BBQ spot become a shadow of what it used to be. I almost wish I hadn't come back because it tarnished some really great childhood memories for me. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I also believe in being honest. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but based on this experience, Woody's is not the Woody's I remember, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. If it's any consolation, the cobbler was okay. But not worth going out of my way for.
