I don't usually leave reviews, but this place has been consistently awful Today, my husband had a very unpleasant interaction. He's a professional dog trainer and was with a certified service animal. He stopped in quickly to grab something. As soon as he walked in, he was approached by a man (possibly the owner?) who immediately told him to leave because of the dog. My husband politely explained that the dog is a trained service animal and he just needed to grab one item quickly. The man interrupted and said he didn't care--he had to leave. My husband then offered to show the dog's DOT form (which he legally isn't required to do) and the man sarcastically said, "Yeah yeah, she's a doctor. Please leave." I've been to Maple Market a few times myself, and every single time the staff has been rude, unprofessional, and frankly, unpleasant. The employees stare, make faces, and make rude comments. It's always uncomfortable. It was dismissive and ignorant,. This kind of behavior is not just rude its probably illegal? Super good market. You know a neighborhood market is superb by the dedication of its clientele. And here there are lines. The 20 or so parking spots are easily fought for and coveted so park on the street if you can. The marinated proteins are superb. Service is very good. Yes people write about the "gruff" behavior of the employees but I reckon, it's like this in many 'non-Californian' markets so we owe it to the business to adjust. I get the sense that if you dish out rude here or you expect a Stepford smile you'll be surely disappointed. Ive never had a problem here. I ask for what I need politely. Honestly if I were able I would have given them less then one star since they have the worst costumer service ever, very poor management. So I placed an order few days ahead for a specific time and when I went to pick up the order they told me that they forgot to cook it and told me to give them 30 minutes to make it. Even though my guests were waiting I agreed to give them 30 more minutes. After 40 minutes I went back to pick it up but they told me to give them another 20 minutes and were giving excuses that there was malfunctioning, but they already had told me that they forgot to make it. Just left Maple Market and I don't think I'll ever go back. This place was recommended for their butcher meats so I came here today to pick some up for our Cinco De Mayo gathering tonight. Picture this, I'm the only person actually shopping in the store at the moment, there are some people are checking out but the place wasn't overly busy or anything. Not only was I standing at the meat counter for 8+ minutes (I started keeping track after being ignored the first couple of minutes), but they then chose to help an Armenian lady before me who entered the store and stood at the counter after me. Even after they helped that lady, I WAS STILL STANDING THERE WITH NO HELP! I finally had to flag a guy coming from the back to take my order; I was half tempted to leave at that point. Finally got my meat order placed and one of them was wrong; he corrected it, fine, whatever. I make my way over to the checkout, which is terribly laid out and confusing btw, only to see 3 cashiers at the 2 checkout lanes chatting it up with the customers who have already paid. Line isn't moving as I'm standing there and guess who is flagged to checkout in front of me; the Armenian lady who was allowed to cut in front of me at the meat counter. I politely stepped in front of her as it was my turn and was clearly waiting to checkout before her. I'm checking out and no friendly hello or expressions from cashiers. Not even a thank you for shopping with us as I'm given my bag of meats. Nothing; the quietest transaction I've ever had; at least at self checkout I he machine acknowledges me. They seemed miserable... that or they don't like dealing with non-Armenian customers. Either way this place was sad and grim and I definitely won't go back. What's even sadder is that because of this negative experience, I decided to pay with cash as I was legitimately afraid this place would rip off my CC info (it's happened to me in other parts of Glendale, trust me). Ohh and the cherry on top; they don't seem to enforce or care about Covid restrictions. The patrons AND staff that I saw in the store were either unmasked or not wearing their masks properly. I saw a man come out of the back and go straight to the meat area where they handle food completely unmasked. This is a fairly small store with Middle Eastern foods in the community where you can grab specific items on a quick stop in. The majority of the store is a meat counter with a decent variety of fresh fruits and vegetables considering the size of the store. Some of the fruit was organic (apples and grapes). Middle eastern style sweets and jams and honey. Some prepared foods in the deli case as well as cheese and olives. I did not give it more stars because the store is so small so it can only meet limited needs and I don't see myself stopping in again. This place is awesome. They have smoked fish, which they make weekly. The side salads they make are way above average. Heck, it's worth going there just for these items alone. However let's not forget the baked goods, which are really great. The fresh bread is really good. It's not obvious though, you'll need to ask then to bring it out for you. They also have a butcher, produce, and other items, which are worth a try. There's an actual parking lot and a Mission Wine & Spirits across the street. Between the two businesses you should be able to buy everything you need for an awesome party. I want to add my two cents on this small little market. Great selection of bread and bakery goods. The bread especially is very fresh and well tasting. The produce is a little pricey, haven't tried the meat but I don't want to risk it. They do have a nice salad bar. Knocked off two stars because of the Armenian cashier girls. They don't acknowledge you when you're standing to buy bread, they will just stare at you. Not even a "what the hell do you want", they just keep silent. Their demeanor and the way they carry themselves makes you not want to come back. On several occasions after paying, this one girl just leaves my stuff on the counter. Really you can't hand it to me? I have to reach over with two hands to get my stuff. They don't even give the receipt unless you ask. Just a shitty checkout experience overall. It seems I'm not the lone wolf here because I just read 5 other yelpers mention the same thing. Hands down my favorite Armenian market in LA. Everything from the cold salad bar to the bakery to the marinated meats are exceptional. I discovered this place a few years ago and have turned my entire family on to them. My favorite go-to's include the garlic olives, marinated chicken for grilling, marinated eggplant/bell pepper salad, and the creamy rose + ladyfingers dessert. Ran inside to get some bread and cheese the girl working there have no idea they had feta cheese and apparently had no idea how to ask for help to find it. I feel like this place is only for people who Armenian if you don't speak Armenian your kind of lost the people there seem like they only want to cater to other Armenians and not to other nationalities. As a new customer I found it very hard to try to get someone to talk to me or work with me or help me buy some feta cheese I have to go to another store to buy it I'll come back to buy bread but I find it sad that you have to work so hard just to get someone to help you. Unassuming from the street, it is larger inside than one would expect and is clean, well-decorated, and pleasing to the eye. There is even a section for imported food like pasta and olive oil. Everything I've bought here has been fresh and delicious. But the main reason I'm leaving a review is because of the customer service I received when I needed to place a last minute catering order. I procrastinated ordering appetizers for an event and called less than 24 hours in advance with NO idea what how much of it to order. I was prepared to hear an annoyed voice on the other end (raise your hand if you've worked customer service and have had indecisive customers- I know I have!). However, the woman who answered was so patient and understanding and made several great suggestions.
