The casual, open space was inviting and the place was spotlessly clean. However, the customer service was just average. I wanted an egg and cheese biscuit with gravy and asked if I could replace the bacon in the Bacon, Egg, Cheese Biscuit with the shiitake mushroom gravy. However, the gal at the counter said no so I ended up ordering the spinach, egg, and goat cheese biscuit and had to order a side of shiitake mushroom gravy. She wouldn't even let me switch out the goat cheese for cheddar cheese. Needless to say, service was not the most accommodating or helpful. My lunch date ordered the chicken and waffle and gave it a 4/5 rating. The chicken was crispy but the waffle was more on the dense side. The biscuit was also dense, more so than fluffy. It was baked golden brown and had a slightly crispy exterior which was the best part. The inside didn't pull apart into delicate layers. Instead, it crumbled when I forked through it to get a piece. I'd give it a 4/5 rating. I thought the shitake mushroom gravy was very good and give 5/5. I'm just happy they make a vegetarian-friendly gravy. We waited approximately 45 to an hour for our food on Saturday morning. We saw other tables and to go order people waiting just as long. Every customer was being very polite..maybe too polite. One family with small children got up and left. Good thing we didn't have to be anywhere. When the food was finally dropped at the table the kid just ran off so we had to go up to the counter to ask for extra butter and syrup. If you're serving food that requires syrup give the table a container to pour the syrup. The food was very good, but half of it was cold. So a few months ago my wife and I got breakfast her on a Sunday morning. I torched them a bit - some in getting order done in timely fashion and the other on their taco. I got up this morning and decided to give them another try. I must admit, there is a difference between a weekday and a weekend as it pertains to service and crowd. This time I went with the Five & Dime w/ chicken (I chose chicken as in my mind it's a healthier option than beef, but considering it's deep fried so good, it really didn't matter either may) w/ a hard fried egg - might as goo all the way. See pic. Sandwich is great. All parts - the biscuit, the gravy, the bacon, the fried chicken, the fried egg, and I think there was cheese. Tip - the sandwich comes with a long toothpick in it, leave it in and eat around it or otherwise the whole thing will come down. I actually ordered in via uber eats, so I can't speak on the atmosphere, but I ordered the sticky maple with an over easy egg. I should've left off the egg and just cooked one at home because by the time I warmed it, it was just too rubbery - to no fault of the restaurant, it just was too cold from the drive to get here on a cold day. The biscuit was good, great crunchy exterior, fluffy on the inside, bacon was perfectly chewy and crispy, chicken was plump and crispy. I was unsure of the maple syrup situation so I ordered it on the side, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was the good/real stuff, not that plastic mumbo jumbo. One thing that's important to me is clean good fats used to cook (real butter, tallow, avocado, or olive oil for example), I never expect that at a restaurant, and I'm sure they don't use them, except maybe butter in the biscuits, but I didn't ask so I can't confirm what they do or do not use, but that would be my critique. I hate considering how much cell death I am causing just because I want to try someone else's food. Overall though, the flavors were good, considering the oil factor and how important that is to me, I will take the time to recreate the dish at home. It was definitely worth putting into rotation, especially after caramelizing the maple syrup so it wasn't running down my arm as I ate. I also had the hash brown bites and fried green tomatoes. I like how they battered the tomatoes, not just breaded them, but the hash browns being battered were a bit overkill to me, I lost the flavor of the potato's, it mostly tasted like oil to me. read more

You walk in and place your order before finding your seat. Very casual environment. They also have a separate lunch taco menu if biscuits aren't something you want. They have their own brewed coffee in several roasts: light amber, dark bark, maple tap. They provide you in house mugs to grab your coffee (love that). They also have other coffee curated drinks, a coffee club opportunity, and fresh orange juice via a huge juicer! We ordered the Five and Dime biscuit and it was hearty! Full of different flavors and toppings. The Retro Plate was also a nice option with two eggs your way, smashbrowns, side of bacon, and a biscuit with jam. The jam is made in house and so tasty. Food: we ordered a kid chocolate chip waffle, chicken fried steak biscuit and with sausage gravy and a biscuit gravy with scrambled eggs. The plates were HUGE. We were not expecting that but thought we could definitely have shared one order as adults. The chicken fried steak was tender and flavorful , the biscuits were soft-- not quite the flaky biscuit but more like soft tender and more doughy biscuit but good with gravy cause they absorb all the goodies! On Sunday, May 12, 2024 I placed an online order for my family and I. I went to pick up my order around 10:45am and I noticed that the restaurant was extremely crowded, almost uncomfortably crowded. I stood in line to pick up my order for about 8 minutes. When I got to the front of the line, the woman behind the counter (maybe the kitchen expeditor) asked for my name. She asked me to repeat my name and then said, "It looks like your order isn't ready yet." I pointed to the upper shelf right next to her and said, "I think that's my order right there." It was the only to-go order on the shelf at the time. And she replied "yeah I think that's your order.." She turned her attention to something else and left me standing there, and didn't even hand me my order. I had to retrieve my order from the shelf myself, and I would've done that initially if I knew she was going to be so unpleasant about it. She saw me standing there waiting and then repeated, "Yeah that's your order right there." As far as the food is concerned, it was overall decent but lacked seasoning and flavor. The cinnamon biscuit was the best tasting item we ordered. In my opinion, the restaurant had an overwhelming crowd and maybe that was the reason for this employee's poor attitude. I decided to try the "Five and Dime", which is a biscuit with bacon, a fried egg and chicken strips. MSBC offers two different types of gravies. I opted for the shiitake pepper gravy, which is still creamy, but has just a little kick. The other gravy is the standard sausage gravy. I tried the house and dark roast coffee. The dark was my favorite, very good and not watered-down. One thing I really didn't understand was the difference between the sandwiches and standard biscuit and gravy offerings on the menu. Service is not bad for being semi-made to order dishes. The location is nice. Reasonable amount of indoor/outdoor seating. The food is good. However a little odd. For example. I ordered a fried chicken biscuit sandwich thing. The cheese was barely melted and the chicken was room temp. So I assume they fry all the chicken bits and have them off to the side and just stack the sandwich. Having fried chicken prepared and tossed been the buns is normal but usually the chicken still has some cooked temp. So that's one reason they're missing a start. Overall we tried several items on the menu. All of which good but nothing that knocked my socks off. The bacon is good. The biscuits and gravy is well seasoned and good. The biscuits obviously the high point on being fresh and tasty. The waffles are on the bland and underwhelming so say the least. Like if you had this and then the major waffle chain most would lean toward the waffle chain. The meatballs are okay. But have that "just out of the freezer" texture. Maple Street Biscuit Co is a definite visit when I go to Houston. A few friends and I stopped by around 10 AM in the morning to enjoy breakfast and the restaurant was decently packed with guests with decadent looking menu items from biscuit sandwiches to delcious looking plates. Along the Back wall sits various coffee dispensers with various flavors - all of which are free refills. The interior shined as the sun bounced off the walls and tables, and the decor was very fitting for a more rustic, cozy ambiance. The workers were incredibly freindly and very patient with questions. For my food I chose the "Five and Dime" which was a flakey biscuit with a crunchy, crispy, amd moist chicken breast, with a thick and smokey cut of bacon, slice of cheese on top, and smothered in a shiitake gravy. Despite its small size, it is quite filling and definitely hits that "heavy breakfast" itch. I also ordered the shareable smashbrowns that come with 4 pieces. The smashbrowns are reminescent of latkes(?) and have an incredibly crispy texture on the outside with a flakey interior texture. I do wish they added 2 or 3 more for the order for the value as they are marketed as shareable, and having more than 4 guests results in having less than one a piece. My friend purchased the sweeter breakfast with waffles and strawberries topped with a whipped cream. While it was not my favorite of the two dishes, it was a good waffle (but I still wouldn't pick it over their namesake!) Overall, My experience here was definitely a good one; I do enjoy their quality of food and their endless coffee quality definitely rivaled that of normal coffees I have had before. read more

I ordered the five and dime. Instead of asking for your name for the order they ask what is your favorite candy. When my food was ready, I went to pick it up, finding it weird why they didn't put it on a tray since I had two items. The five and dime looked delicious and fattening! It is massive and there is no way I could have eaten this normal like a burger. I had to use a fork and knife! The first bite was amazing! The gravy was thick and creamy with lots of umami flavor. The chicken was moist and crunchy. Bacon was crispy. Ironically, the biscuit was the only downfall in my opinion. I wish I had a huge country biscuit. The tomatoes were sliced Roma tomatoes, the spinach was frozen drained, and the avocado instead of being sliced fresh avocados with smash like you buy in the little cups I believe there was one egg scrambled and maybe a teaspoon of cheese. My friend ordered the bacon egg and cheese biscuit. The egg was flat and folded like they do at McDonald's, the cheese was one slice of would look to be Velveeta glistening with grease and she had one piece of bacon cut in half.
