You can come here for dinner or lunch. Today we got the classic burger and a build your own sandwich. The serving sizes were hefty and we definitely left with a happy tummy. The food was fresh and high quality. The wait staff was accommodating and so friendly. We even got to speak with the manager who made us feel like family. There was a large number of pies to select from which honestly was the toughest part of the whole experience. We settled with the key lime pie which was such a great choice but will definitely be back to taste the other types of pies. Lastly, this spot was bustling. We came around the lunch rush so there was a line. However, the line went quick and the tables flipped pretty quickly. We didn't have an issue finding a table and the wait staff was on top of it. Been here twice now. Great key lime pie. Food is good and the place has a nice atmosphere. The first time a nice lady waited on us in take out line. She was a friendly and nice lady. The next trip was tonight. We stood in front of the pie & ice cream counter and no one came. There was 4 younger folks standing by the registers area and they did not even acknowledge our presence or the folks that walked in behind us. I finally walked the 4 feet to the register to get the young man's attention and let him know we would like ice cream and a pie. He seemed a little put out at first but, in the end was pleasant to deal with. Nice place worth trying. They just need a little more awareness on folks coming in and giving them some guidance on where to order and acknowledging their presence. My second time here and have nothing to say bad about this place! I went during Sunday lunch. There was a line but we went through pretty fast. It seems like a small dining area but there's actually plenty of space to accommodate everyone in the line. I saw at the end of my meal that they have another room tucked away with more tables. I do like the booth seating though! Their maple vinaigrette was perfect balance of oil, acidity and sweetness. I don't normally like dressing with my salad but I actually enjoyed it! I got a patty melt, cooked to my liking, medium rare. I do wish that they seasoned the patty a bit more. I had to sprinkle a lot of salt on it to make it right. I've been wanting to try this place for a VERY long time, so when a friend invited me to lunch, I couldn't say no. Nestled in the center of Old Katy, this quaint little eatery will steal your heart...and your tastebuds! You order at the register and then take a seat. Other than a server bringing you the food, everything else is self service. The restaurant also has an ice cream bar. Very clean and lots of natural light. We ordered the chicken fried steak and steak finger basket which were nearly the same, except the steak fingers is the chicken fried steak but cut into finger food. Amazing crunchy batter. The steak is a bit on the smaller side so there was a lot of extra batter without any steak along the edges. But the portion made up for it. The zucchini fries were perfectly seasoned and battered. The "healthy" alternative to French fries. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu options. read more

I found this place during my day of getting a car repair-I thought. I walked over for lunch and had no idea they existed. It's a cute place that serves ice cream and pies! I opted for a lunch special- turkey and Swiss toasted, Caesar salad, chili minestrone soup. I also got the chocolate cream pie. The pie was good and soup was nice. I did not care for the sandwich. Stopped in at Southern Dough Baking Company in Katy and really enjoyed it overall. We ordered a BLT and a chicken salad sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. For dessert, we tried a slice of their peach pie and the chocolate meringue pie. Let me tell you, both were excellent and definitely worth saving room for! The place has a charming old-style bakery vibe, with vintage appliances and decor on the shelves that give it a cozy, nostalgic feel. The staff were friendly and treated us well throughout most of the visit. The only downside was a small mix-up with our pies. At the register, we were asked if we wanted our pies now or brought later, which of course we choose the later. Because who doesn't like a warm slice of pie compared to it getting cold at your table? But after our table was cleared and we waited a bit with our number still showing on the table, they still hadn't come out. It seemed like we were just forgotten. I eventually went up and asked for them, and we did get them, but it was a little disappointing given how good everything else was. Overall, though, the food and desserts were great, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were kind. Aside from that one hiccup with the pies, it was a really nice experience and I'd still recommend giving this place a try. read more

Really great experience. We walked in and right away could see the menus. The place has very nice modern vibes, but a homey feel. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The staff is very friendly and smiling all the time. They have a beautiful display of pies and other pastries like pound cakes. The menu has a really good selection and a lot of options especially for lunch with some lunch combos. I got a lunch half sandwich of a club with a house salad. Both were delicious and fresh. Some of my greens were a little old so that wasn't great but otherwise I enjoyed it. They had lemon for water which I appreciate. And the sweet potato fries were really good. This is a very interesting place. It's very popular so all the tables are pretty full as you wait to order your food. The pies look great and I love the variety of American foods available here. I enjoyed my Southern Chicken Fried Steak and my husband enjoyed his steak fingers. He did order the French onion soup and they forgot to bring it with his food. Before ordering patrons must past a wall of temptation in the form of 15 or so Bluebell ice cream flavors, fresh made sweet bread, cookies, and my favorite, pie! Oh so much pie, Dark chocolate pie, chocolate silk pie, apple pie, lemon meringue pie, key lime pie, and (the seasonal) strawberry, they really carry all of the favorites! As a pie connoisseur, I can confidently say that this spot does pie proud. That may not be a surprise given the name. What was a surprise (to me atleast) was their soup and sandwich game. Their tomato basil soup was a savory, hearty, treat, bursting with flavor. It pairs perfectly with the Bulverde sandwich! My dining partner could not stop raving about the potato soup. It's always worth asking about their soup of the day! To top it all off, although you do not have a waiter or waitress per se, the customer service couldn't be better. Managers check in on tables, and serves remain present on the floor ready to help if you have any concerns. One of the best meals I've had in a long time! I'm from out of town, so when my friend suggested we visit this place, I knew it must be good! The place itself is charming and has an appealing homey vibe to it. Right when you walk in, you see a massive case of pies. They're all quite pretty and definitely make it hard to pick which one you want. We picked out the pie before our food (who wouldn't) and went with the chocolate peanut butter pie. You place your order at the counter, receive a number, and take a seat while you wait. We sat on the patio and our food was out fairly quickly. I had the bacon chicken avocado sandwich and it was soooo good. The pretzel bun adds something special to it. The bacon was crispy. I got a side of sweet potato fries and they were perfectly crispy! The peanut butter pie was the true star of the show though. It was insanely good. I'm not a big fruit pie person, so this was what my pie dreams are made out of. My best bud from my old work wanted to check this place out since it had great reviews. It's in Old Katy, so it took each of us thirty minutes to get there; was it worth it? People raved about ambience: yes it's cutesy and clean, but we thought it came off as kitschy. The overhead lighting was beautiful though. Other reviews raved about service: the employees were nice, but the counter ordering took forever and there only one cashier; on Good Friday at lunch? Hmmm Food was also said to be amazing: it was underwhelming and overpriced: I had a scoop of chicken salad and scoop of tuna salad which I thought would be too much. It was a small portion. My friend had a Rueben: The sandwich was good, but it was super skinny with a sliver of kraut and came with potato chips; for $16 dollars? Finally, the best part of the meal: we shared the coconut cream pie, and it was delicious--house made buttery crust, delicious coconut custard and fresh whipped cream and it was a big slice! This place is super cute and gives off small town feel. I had no idea Old Town Katy had this type of place. Everything we had was soo good. They have Bluebell ice cream, pastas, home cooked meal type things, sandwiches, daily soups and delicious pies. They offer a family dinner special for pick up on Friday after 4pm for like $50 I think. This past Fridays was Chicken Spaghetti. I want to go back to try that. You order at the counter, they give you a number and bring the food to you. They have fountain drinks. The decor is super cute. We sat at a table, comfy chairs. Power went out while we were there for a good ten minutes but our food was made before hand so they brought it out. And there was plenty of light because they have lots of windows. I got minestrone soup and egg salad pick two combo. The soup was delicious. The only sad thing was that I was hoping for French Onion soup, didn't realize they had daily soups. I'll be back to try it. The sandwich was also very good. Nice soft crescent bread. Perfect. My hubby got some sort of hot chicken sandwich with chips. He ate it all. Said it was so good. And spicy. Then we decided to try the pie. So glad we did. I got Key Lime pie. And he got Peanut butter pie. Both were amazing and wanted to just keep eating them but we were full. Oh my stars! You know.. this place is fantastic, country charm. We stopped in just to "see" but after talking to the hostess today.. well.. of course we had to try it. They use real butter in their pies, which are a MUST HAVE. Hubby had the dark chocolate pie and I had the coconut cream, both were phenomenal. Coffee was perfect along with it. We also tried their fries, which are deep fried in beef tallow - hello game changer!! We don't do seed oils so this was perfect. This sweet little restaurant is highly recommended. The staff were attentive and polite. Next time, we'll be staying for sandwiches!! Their menu is nicely done and not complicated, just nice comfort food all around. First time here and had the best experience. Ordered the chicken fried steak which was HUGE!! Very Texas sized! My husband had a burger, and son had grilled cheese with fresh fruit. We had passed by it before because we thought it was a pie and coffee shop (and if we want coffee, we go to Serene Bean around the corner). But today I thought a nice slice of pie would be nice. So she got her a Mexican Coke and I had an iced coffee and yes, we got pie. I got coffee crunch (I think that's the name) and she got strawberry. Both were unique and lots of flavor. But what caught us off guard was their food menu. Lots of good southern offerings. Chicken-n-dumplings, CFS, chicken spaghetti. And very reasonable prices. The burgers were dry and under seasoned, the tenders were soggy and also under seasoned. The service was non existent. The booth was stained and filled with crumbs and we had to wipe down our table before anything. We didn't try the pies and maybe that's why others like it. My rating of 3 is just for the food, and food alone. The fries tasted gritty and flavorless. I ordered the Bourbon Pecan Pie was sugar overload I could barely take 2 bites. The amount of chocolate in it was surprising and ruined the flavor for me. If you can get past the food quality, the atmosphere is very comfortable and nice. The salad was very fresh and had candied walnuts, avocado and diced tomatoes. The salad dressings are clearly homemade and delicious. She tried the ranch and the blue cheese. Her only complaint was the tomatoes were diced way too tiny. I had the 1/2 sandwich (a club) and onion soup. The club had a great bread and very fresh meats. A bit too much Mayo but delicious bacon. Interesting rather than cut on the diagonal it was cut in half. The sandwich was a bit messy to eat, but worth it. The onion soup was very beefy but would have like more onions. Multiple items in my order were wrong last time and today they said they no longer offer the big plate items during lunch even during the weekends. I have been wanting to come here because I love southern cooking! Since I came for lunch I ordered the fried chicken salad. It was a good sized portion full of fresh veggies and greens- only thing I didn't like is the romaine as it browns a bit. I'm particular about lettuce and that does bother me, so I picked out all the browning pieces. The chicken tasted freshly fried and was not overcoated with batter- nice thin crunch. Excellent food, a little pricey but the quality matches the price. Pleasant outdoor or indoor seating. Only staff I've ever seen are adolescents , they try hard enough but seem to lack experience or quality training. There was an awkward situation where two of us were waiting on coffee for longer than necessary, I feel a more experienced person would have just filled up our cups for us while it was coming out of the machine instead of waiting for the entire jug thing to get filled up , while appearing a little annoyed that people were asking about coffee. Some of the cashier girls are young enough that they seem to have some of that teenager anxiety/fear interacting with adults instead of being as cheerful and welcoming as they could be.
