    Chicken Fried Steak
    Kevin C.

This place is a popular destination for brunch on a Sunday! Small town vibes. There is outdoor and indoor seating, and plenty of it. But the line starts to form out the door around noon. You order at the register and then take a seat. Other than a server bringing you the food, everything else is self service. The restaurant also has an ice cream bar. Very clean and lots of natural light. We ordered the chicken fried steak and steak finger basket which were nearly the same, except the steak fingers is the chicken fried steak but cut into finger food. Amazing crunchy batter. The steak is a bit on the smaller side so there was a lot of extra batter without any steak along the edges. But the portion made up for it. The zucchini fries were perfectly seasoned and battered. The "healthy" alternative to French fries. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu options.

I found this place during my day of getting a car repair-I thought. I walked over for lunch and had no idea they existed. It's a cute place that serves ice cream and pies! I opted for a lunch special- turkey and Swiss toasted, Caesar salad, chili minestrone soup. I also got the chocolate cream pie. The pie was good and soup was nice. I did not care for the sandwich. They are located right in downtown Katy. The ambiance is cute and very country. Service was great as I was asked how my food was going.

Highly recommended by my friends so I went for lunch. Could tell it's a popular spot and there was a little bit of a line when we got there. Lots of options to choose from, all sounded delish! I got a patty melt with a side of house salad. It was overall yummy, I did wish that the patty was seasoned a little bit better. And they also mixed up sides with another guest's so there was a bit of confusion. Other than that, I'll return and try some of their pies/cookies!

Excellent friendly customer service like you're at your own family's restaurant. The food is just like grandma makes! Scrumptious! The atmosphere is down home comfortable! I had the chicken fried chicken and it was good as usual. A bit on the salty side but still tasty! The sweet tea is very good! Daily specials are always great! Love this place!

Really great experience. We walked in and right away could see the menus. The place has very nice modern vibes, but a homey feel. It was very clean and nicely decorated. The staff is very friendly and smiling all the time. They have a beautiful display of pies and other pastries like pound cakes. The menu has a really good selection and a lot of options especially for lunch with some lunch combos. I got a lunch half sandwich of a club with a house salad. Both were delicious and fresh. Some of my greens were a little old so that wasn't great but otherwise I enjoyed it. They had lemon for water which I appreciate. And the sweet potato fries were really good. I would love to try their other fried items on the menu. The outdoor seating is beautiful especially on a nice day like today. I will definitely be returning.

Excellent atmosphere, friendly service, value and taste of the foods are outstanding! So good!!!

Chicken fried chicken with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. Huge portion!

Incredible place - this is a must stop place for us anytime we're driving through Houston now! The service is outstanding, flavor is incredible and has the cutest atmosphere both inside and out. 10/10 highly recommend. The pies are to die for, chicken and dumplings perfectly cooked and possibly the best chicken fried chicken my boys have ever had. Fantastic - you should absolutely try it!!

I popped my downtown Katy cherry! Southern Dough proved the perfect spot to do so. I was fooled by the quiet exterior, but now you know, if it's brunch time on a Saturday this spot will likely be packed. Dawning their awards above their sweet treats upon entry and in the queue, by the time you make it to the order counter, you'll be drooling. That's right! Before ordering patrons must past a wall of temptation in the form of 15 or so Bluebell ice cream flavors, fresh made sweet bread, cookies, and my favorite, pie! Oh so much pie, Dark chocolate pie, chocolate silk pie, apple pie, lemon meringue pie, key lime pie, and (the seasonal) strawberry, they really carry all of the favorites! As a pie connoisseur, I can confidently say that this spot does pie proud. That may not be a surprise given the name. What was a surprise (to me atleast) was their soup and sandwich game. Their tomato basil soup was a savory, hearty, treat, bursting with flavor. It pairs perfectly with the Bulverde sandwich! My dining partner could not stop raving about the potato soup. It's always worth asking about their soup of the day! To top it all off, although you do not have a waiter or waitress per se, the customer service couldn't be better. Managers check in on tables, and serves remain present on the floor ready to help if you have any concerns. If I were to introduce a brunch spot to a friend visiting the Katy area, it would be this one!

One of the best meals I've had in a long time! I'm from out of town, so when my friend suggested we visit this place, I knew it must be good! The place itself is charming and has an appealing homey vibe to it. Right when you walk in, you see a massive case of pies. They're all quite pretty and definitely make it hard to pick which one you want. We picked out the pie before our food (who wouldn't) and went with the chocolate peanut butter pie. You place your order at the counter, receive a number, and take a seat while you wait. We sat on the patio and our food was out fairly quickly. I had the bacon chicken avocado sandwich and it was soooo good. The pretzel bun adds something special to it. The bacon was crispy. I got a side of sweet potato fries and they were perfectly crispy! The peanut butter pie was the true star of the show though. It was insanely good. I'm not a big fruit pie person, so this was what my pie dreams are made out of. The crust was probably my favorite part, as it was chocolate and had a sea salt taste to it. I can't wait to come back here when I'm in town again!

We loved this cute and quaint little place in Katy. We had seen it on one of the shows and put it on our list to try. It did not disappoint. The service was wonderful and the food was good also......but the key lime pie , worth the trip !!!! Please take some time and show this business some foodie love. You will be glad you did !!! Keep up the good work y'all. Oh and they loved the zucchini fries too !!!

My best bud from my old work wanted to check this place out since it had great reviews. It's in Old Katy, so it took each of us thirty minutes to get there; was it worth it? People raved about ambience: yes it's cutesy and clean, but we thought it came off as kitschy. The overhead lighting was beautiful though. Other reviews raved about service: the employees were nice, but the counter ordering took forever and there only one cashier; on Good Friday at lunch? Hmmm Food was also said to be amazing: it was underwhelming and overpriced: I had a scoop of chicken salad and scoop of tuna salad which I thought would be too much. It was a small portion. My friend had a Rueben: The sandwich was good, but it was super skinny with a sliver of kraut and came with potato chips; for $16 dollars? Finally, the best part of the meal: we shared the coconut cream pie, and it was delicious--house made buttery crust, delicious coconut custard and fresh whipped cream and it was a big slice! Overall, it's not worth a 30 minute drive, but the pie is very good. The employees were very polite too, and it's very clean.

This place is super cute and gives off small town feel. I had no idea Old Town Katy had this type of place. Everything we had was soo good. They have Bluebell ice cream, pastas, home cooked meal type things, sandwiches, daily soups and delicious pies. They offer a family dinner special for pick up on Friday after 4pm for like $50 I think. This past Fridays was Chicken Spaghetti. I want to go back to try that. You order at the counter, they give you a number and bring the food to you. They have fountain drinks. The decor is super cute. We sat at a table, comfy chairs. Power went out while we were there for a good ten minutes but our food was made before hand so they brought it out. And there was plenty of light because they have lots of windows. I got minestrone soup and egg salad pick two combo. The soup was delicious. The only sad thing was that I was hoping for French Onion soup, didn't realize they had daily soups. I'll be back to try it. The sandwich was also very good. Nice soft crescent bread. Perfect. My hubby got some sort of hot chicken sandwich with chips. He ate it all. Said it was so good. And spicy. Then we decided to try the pie. So glad we did. I got Key Lime pie. And he got Peanut butter pie. Both were amazing and wanted to just keep eating them but we were full. Look forward to trying more dishes here.

First time here and had the best experience. Ordered the chicken fried steak which was HUGE!! Very Texas sized! My husband had a burger, and son had grilled cheese with fresh fruit. We ate everything and had to have a box for the leftover chicken friend steak. Even the tea was so fresh! We took some pies to take home. Such a cute setup and great place for a local family dinner. Next time we have friends or family over we will bring them here so they can have a great experience of Old Town Katy

What a great dining experience! This was my first time here. I was heading into heavy rush-hour…read moretraffic, so I decided to avoid it and stop to have a good meal before heading home. This restaurant definitely aims to please. I was being very specific about what I wanted for my ribeye steak tonight; waitress Jessie was awesome and listened carefully to my requests. And then to make sure that I was absolutely happy, she brought Chef Kenneth to the table to discuss what I was looking for. Kenneth returned from the kitchen with three beautiful-looking ribeye steaks and we discussed which one would give me the best dining experience. He does some of the butchering himself so he knew exactly what I was looking for. I ended up being served the most fabulous Wagyu steak I've had in a very long time. Unlike the other steaks that can have a seasoning on them, the Wagyu is just salt and pepper and then is served with a beautiful compound butter slathered all over it. They make that butter in-house and it has wine and shallots and bone marrow and other wonderful stuff. Trust me, it's amazing! I ordered extra on the side and poured that all over the top of the steak. Delicious!! Sometimes little things count and it was served with grilled onion that was tasty. I could have had a side of mashed potatoes or asparagus, but I decided to treat myself and try the mac-n-cheese instead. Half of that food was my lunch the next day, so I left enough room for dessert, where my choice was the apple pie bread pudding with cinnamon roll ice cream. That was nice and moist and I enjoyed it. Overall, this was a really great dining experience and I'm so glad that bad traffic gave me the excuse to come here. Will definitely plan a return visit!!

While we completely understand wanting to protect expensive furniture, the tone and delivery came across as rude and made our entire table feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. On the other hand, I want to recognize our waiter, who was excellent throughout the meal. Raymond was attentive, friendly, and did his best to make us feel comfortable again after the interaction with the manager. His professionalism and kindness were the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, the food also fell short of expectations. In particular, I would not recommend the mussels. The flavor was unpleasant and left a very bad aftertaste, making them one of the least enjoyable dishes we ordered. Good customer service isn't just about enforcing rules--it's about how those rules are communicated. Unfortunately, the manager's approach, combined with the disappointing food, overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable dining experience.

Tables are well spaced plenty of room eight crisp environment really just a very comfortable ambience. The services superlative from the moment you walk in in which you are immediately accommodated to the server who takes an order and then the servers who serve the food which is not necessarily one in the same. It's simply a very efficient service system and very pleasant if you're a customer. You get warm food. In my case I had hollandaise with Salman underlying it, which was very good. The eggs were cooked perfectly the hollandaise not by any means obnoxious but a very deliberate Irving and a wonderful salad, which both underlines the egg and is served as a side with the eggs, which were perfectly poached. In so far as the buzz is concerned, there are wines and beer available and really quite an extensive menu in both. I enjoyed a beer with mine, which I know it sounds like an odd combination, but it worked quite well for me. Really this is a wonderful addition to Katy options for breakfast or brunch.

They serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday until 330. The brunch menu is huge. It is not a super large menu, which I feel very endearing. We decided to try the bagel and lox with cream cheese, the Buzz burger with fries, and their homemade chips. They start off by bringing you this beautiful craft of bottled water. That to me was an amazing bonus. We also ordered two sodas which came in a can. I sort of wish it was a more of a fountain drink than one can of soda for the price. *Now service was super slow. However, the waitress did come and tell us that they are running a little behind and she apologized for it and she was super sweet, so that made up for the weight. How do I known how long it was going to take, I don't know if I would've stayed, but in the end, the food was amazing. The burger was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend is a hamburger snob and he kept saying how good it was how fresh it was and how perfectly cooked it was. They serve you shoestring fries that feel like they're double fried and they were phenomenal. My bagel was toasted perfectly and had a very good amount of cream cheese and lox. As a Jewish girl living in the area that I do, it's very hard to find good bagels with lox and cream cheese. I will most definitely be back for this sooner than later. The homemade chips took quite a while to come out, and at one point I was ready to say we don't need it, but these potato chips beat Buccees beaver chips, 100%. They were super fresh and very crunchy and tasted amazing. I will definitely recommend those to anybody that orders some. My boyfriend then ordered a tropical sunrise smoothie and it was so tasty and tasted like a strawberry banana smoothie. Now once again that did take a long time to come out and at one point, we were wishing we had not ordered it but once we did get it, it was really good and I highly recommend it. The restaurant is not very large and it's the perfect brunch spot for anybody looking for a smaller Cafe with very good choices.

To address the 4 star, part of the knock on the star comes from little things throughout the night. First, we waited quite a bit to be served. To no fault of our waitress it looked like she had been pulled to handle other things. The hostess ended up taking our order for sandy and then she took it from there. Also, another waitress Jada stepped in as well to help and made sure we were good. This was very nice of them. Again, our waitress was not a problem, but logistically if she had tables you could see her physically having to handle other things so its not like she just went missing. The restaurant has a great vibe. There was a pianist playing and the lights were intimately low. The chef also came over and introduced himself which is pretty cool. On to the food: The oyster Rockefeller first course was delicious. Creamy, spinach, oyster with a bit of a zing from the sauce Next we had the heritage tasting plate and the oxtail tacos. The oxtail tacos had a bit too much lettuce for my liking but my fiancee enjoyed it. Savory, hers didnt have as much lettuce as mine, so if youre not a lettuce fan you could he rolling the dice here. The heritage tasting plate was good. Camel, kangaroo, and rabbit. I loved the kangaroo a ton. Who knew? The camel was very good too it had a ground turkey type if texture. The kangaroo tasted like stewed beef roast. Very good. Finally, the rabbit, as I've had this before, was good rabbit. Its like a chicken ish flavor to it. For the next course we had the lamb chops and suya ribeye. The lamb chops were flavorful and the green beans on both dishes were good and tender. The suya ribeye had good suya flavor. We barely touched the mashed potatoes and jollof because we were so full. The bite of jollof that I did have was traditional flavored jollof. Pretty good. We got the peri peri shrimp with the lamb chops and they were ok, but not anything to write home about. We were expecting that peri peri burst of flavor like the lamb chops had. To finish off the meal we both got the creme brulee. Id say this missed a bit. The brulee didnt have your traditional hard top of bruleed sugar. The sugary portion tasted a bit burnt. Not the traditional brulee burnt but a stronger burnt sugar flavor. All in all a great experience and we would go back and do this again.
