Been looking for really good Long Island BBQ place that makes me want to go there more than once. And finally I have found it. Maple Tree BBQ is a small main road restaurant putting out some serious smoky, well seasoned, the right pull and charred bbq meats including my ribs and brisket. You could see the passion in the owner and the staff, and the service and personal engagement is friendly but not overwhelming. The instant I got out of my truck you could smell the BBQ. Winner right there. Food comes out quick as expected. On the table were 2 homemade BBQ sauces in bottles, one sweet, one spicy. To me the sweet one was a little too loose, but now I am getting the picky. The spicy one was better, but I would recommend they offer the BBQ sauces hot as I find that tastes way better when you add to the dry rubbed meats. The smoky baked beans were good, not great, the beans just a tinge under done and hard. The Mac & cheese was a winner. Really solid BBQ place. Menu is a bit overwhelming to look at but lots of choices at least. We tried the brisket, pastrami, ribs, and pulled pork. Our favorites were the ribs (fall off the bone tender) and brisket (also very tender), while our friends loved the pulled pork (super flavorful). The sauces on the table were also delicious to drizzle on top of the meats for some extra juice. By the time we got up the counter to order at 8pm, they ran out of chicken wings so I was a little disappointed but glad we got to try the ribs instead. The place was packed when we got there but we were still able to find seating for our group of 8. Ordered mac and cheese and corn bread as our side, which were standard. The Owner and Chef married duo are awesome! I've watched them both work tirelessly to make this such a hidden gem in Riverhead over the last 2 years. Dennis literally goes above and beyond for all his customers! My husband got hurt respond to a fire last year right before Thanksgiving and Dennis took a last minute Turkey order for me! We stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago, and we were so happy we did! Delicious, authentic BBQ hidden in this tiny gem of a place! The restaurant has a real homey feel and the woman at the counter was super friendly! Fastest service I've ever experienced. After ordering, our food was out within minutes! And it was AMAZING! We just got back from Nashville a few months ago, so our standards were high for good BBQ and this place exceeded our expectations. Definitely recommend the chicken wings with the Alabama white sauce, out of this world incredible. If I could take a pint of this sauce home, I would. i was there on saturday and got the full rack of ribs and a 1/2 smoked chicken to go,when i got home the big ribs were very tender but dry and as i got to the smaller ribs it became impossiable to eat them because they were dry and stiff,now the chicken had light smoke flavor tasted good but was also dry,it was a total waste of money,the sides are expensive and the cornbread is 2 dollars a slice,now i was really looking for a good place to get bbq but this is not it,oh and i didnt like the rub either read more

So we live in Nassau county. Whenever we visit Riverhead it's usually for the aquarium or tanger outlets. We finished a quick stop to the aquarium and were in need of nourishment. A quick yelp search revealed maple tree a short drive away. I'm always down for some bbq so we have it a shot The space is warm and inviting. They have a decent set of seats inside, a large outdoor space in the back. They also have a few picnic tables across the street by the parking lot along the river The menu was impressive and we decided to get some meat combos so we can try a few things. We opted for ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and pastrami. Holy hell this was the best barbecue we have ever had on Long Island in all the years we have lived in Long Island. The prices are great, and the portions are big for the price you pay. The staff is so warm and friendly. Let's be honest, the food scene in Riverhead is kind of abysmal. That being said, Maple Tree BBQ is a fresh of breath air. After hitting the outlets, the family got hungry and this place piqued our interest after seeing all the positive reviews. The masses have it right on this one. The restaurant is located off the beaten track and main thoroughfare in Riverhead. Parking is ample but their lot is across the street from the actual restaurant, which can be a bit dicey with cars flying by and no crosswalk in sight. The space is clean and cozy and the food here is good, real good. Food is either served in platter form or by the pound. Given that we had lots of people and wanted to try everything, we opted for meat by the pound. The brisket was by far the best bite we had - perfectly smoky, just the right amount of fat and melt in your mouth tender. Crispy fried wings were also a hit and the Korean inspired dipping sauce went well with the meat. Pulled pork was also good with just the right amount of smoke. Ribs were just so-so having lots of flavor but slightly tough. Sides were also top notch. Sweet potatoes were great along with the greens and mac n cheese getting big thumbs up from everyone at the table. The baked beans were also good. As a whole, not a bad bite. Prices are fair here, with platters going for an average of $15 bucks and meat by the pound ranging between $15 to $18. It's on par with any BBQ place you'll find in Long Island. Service here was really good the day we went. The owners were around and checked in on us more than once. I'm originally a suburbs/country girl who moved to the city but wishes she could move back home. I always want to go to long island because of the scenery and the amazing things it has to offer. on my way to apple picking, we found this place on yelp, obviously, because we were hungry.. Hands down, amazing bbq and the staff workers are so generous and welcoming. We got some ribs and chicken and it was the best thing I put in my mouth, The ribs were so tender and slid right off, I personally love the burnt taste on my bbq. The mac and cheese was the best mac and cheese i had ever eaten and would buy it again. They give complimentary baked goods, not quite sure what we received when we went but it was so good and moist. I'm a big fan of this place! Barbecue is an art form and should be taken seriously. It should also be a food of the people that everyone can enjoy and afford. Unfortunately in NYC and many places outside of the great south... it's either not treated like the art that it is or you pay an arm and a leg for it. There really aren't many stand-alone, non-chain barbecue joints on Long Island that aren't either disappointing, over-priced, or both. Maple Tree BBQ holds up to some southern barbecue which is saying a lot. I'm also not saying they beat out the south... it's unbelievable how amazing food starts to taste when you venture around down there BUT Maple Tree holds its own which is a feat in itself. Added bonus for the picnic tables right on the river across the street. The whole vibe just rules. I do wish the prices were a bit lower as they've risen over the years OR the portions were larger. The portion sizes are good for one meal, you leave full for sure but with a combo and a drink you're looking at close to $20 after tax. The sandwiches are definitely the budget option here and they have a good amount to choose from but then you don't get to try as much of their offerings like the Maple Tree Pastrami and Brisket Burnt Ends. I like variety in my barbecue so I'm not stuck with one option the whole meal. A few $10 lunch combos would be ideal, maybe a "meat and 3" or "2 meat and side" or "sandwich and a side". Overall, this place has my vote. And with a strip of chain junk restaurants a couple miles away it's a much needed establishment in this community. Long live true barbecue. read more

After a day of apple picking we decided to have some smoked bbq food. Upon entering, you are met with a huge blackboard filled with a delicious menu of smoked bbq meats as you wait on line to place your order. I've visited Maple Tree BBQ for the second time this year! I heard friends raving about this little hidden gem back in March, so when a group of us were in the Riverhead area, we decided to stop in. First off, this place is gluten-free AND vegetarian friendly, which is clearly labeled on the menu. The first time I stopped in, I ordered the North Carolina pulled pork with herb potatoes ($10) with a side of ice tea. The meat was so tender and the sauce was quite original. I also tried the two sauces on the table (sweet bbq and hot/spicy sauce), although it didn't need it. My friend ordered the Texas beef brisket, and it was just as delicious and filling! The second time I ate here was last week. I ordered the tacos 2 pulled pork and 1 pulled chicken ($10). I wasn't impressed with the tacos. I don't know if it was lacking flavor in the meat or if it needed some more sauce, but I thought it could've used some veggies (sour cream, guac, etc). I tried adding the sauce on the table, but it really didn't do much as far as the flavor. All in all, I think this is a great place to stop by. I was in town for a few days and decided to try this place. The food was fantastic and the portions are great. I ordered the brisket Chili with mac & cheese and the Maple tree Reuben. Both items were fantastic and the Reuben was one of the best I have ever had. The only thing I didn't care for were the baked beans and that may not necessarily have been their fault as it might not have been my cup of tea. I am hosting a Labor Day party and wanted to do a pig roast. I pass Maple Tree Deli every morning on my way to work, with the smokers already fired up. I figured, let me give the owner, Dennis a call. When I spoke to him he seemed very nice, and helpful! After explaining what I wanted Dennis informed me he would give me a call back within the next day to let me know specifics. Two days later, without hearing from him I was told again he would call me back. I tried once more later that evening, to be told he had left for the day. Needless to say, I have not heard from him which brings me to this post. If he was not interested or not available it would have been appreciated if he was up front with me. LOVE this place! Came here as a suggestion from a co-worker, and best decision. The two men working there were friendly and helpful, and the food was so, so delicious! I had the pulled pork with a side of mac and cheese & the potatoes. There were three different sauces, which I can't remember the specifics of right now, but they were all great. It has a really nice homey feel to it. You have to be driving slow to find the place because it just looks like any old house from the outside. We've been going to Maple Tree for a few years now, never disappointed. Went there today for take out and when I got home I was pleasantly surprised that the food seems to have gotten even better. Over all not worth the money. Brisket was tough and no flavor. House BBQ sauce was horrible. The place was not busy, empty tables everywhere and it took 40min to get food! It is smoked so cooked way in advance, it makes no sense to wait that long. That being said the Pastrami was excellent. That is the only good thing I would say.
