Relaxed inside with friendly service and very reasonably priced food! Has the pastrami, pulled chicken sliders, wings, and pork shoulder. Sides coleslaw, potato salad, pickles with jalapeños, and cornbread. Nice outdoor seating across the street on the river with extra parking. Food was great and the extra sauces on the table was a solid touch. Will def be back! The pickles are the sleeper pick! The wings def up there too... wish I would have seen the beef ribs when I ordered!

This place is awesome! We are driving by after a retirement party for my mother in law and I had to come try to place out! My wife always raves about this bbq spot and I'm bbq fanatic so it just made sense. Came here and got some smoked wings, brisket, and a pull pork sandwich with some baked beans and French fries! Ohm the food was hitting and amazing. We drove it back from River head to deer park and it was still hitting. That pull pork was juicy and very flavorful and the brisket was also very good. Meat was tender and not tough and just packing Lots of flavor. Baked beans were decent and no complaints but those smoked wings were out of this world. Everything was all around solid and no complaints. My only complaint is I wish they were closer to me, but I can't wait to come back here when I'm near by. Very good solid bbq and the staff here are so sweet. I highly recommend this place if you like great bbq! You will not be disappointed in promise.

This is a great spot to get barbecue! Come right when they open and you'll be served quickly. The turkey was delicious as was the iced tea. The staff were helpful and checked in with us during the meal. Be careful crossing the street from the parking lot.

Great stop for all carnivores to make before or after your stop in Riverhead proper. When you get back to your car, take a deep breath, exhale and say "damn, that was good eating." Check the menu and order at the counter. The food really speaks for itself, this is only a hidden gem because I do not live nearby. Everything came out in decent time, the meats were juicy. The ribs were well sized, the fat cut brisket was excellent. The pastrami could cause problems as I didn't want to share. I think it's a guarantee the next time I am out east, to eat here. My coworkers and I ate here for dinner recently and it was delicious! The staff was so helpful with their suggestions for food! The ribs were divine!! The chili was some of the best I have ever had and the clam chowder was delicious too! The coleslaw and potato salad were my favorite sides! We finished off with the smoked cheesecake which I would eat again and again!

Cuisine: 4 Service: 6 Decor: 7 Value: 5 Overall: 4 Honestly, my standards for BBQ are quite high from many years of working in places like Texas and both Carolinas. From all the positive Yelp reviews, I was cautiously optimistic that maybe I finally found a great BBQ joint in the NYC area. Unfortunately, that was not the case and here's why. Everything from BBQ to sides I tried was average (or below) and was lacking in some ways. Not one single item made me say, "I am definitely coming back for this delicious bite." Smoked New England Clam Chowder (7/10) - One of the best things we ate. Smoky and creamy, but too overly salty for us to have much. Smoked Chicken Wings (3/10) - The crispy skin was a nice, along with the hint of smokiness. However, half our order had super dry meat, while the others were okay, but none were juicy. Fatty Beef Brisket (5/10) - Definitely not as tender or juicy as the good stuff I always get in Texas. It was also quite bland and needed way more seasoning. Maple Tree Pastrami (7/10) - This was a solid cut of meat, though I didn't taste much smoke. Wouldn't mind try the Reuben next time. Smoked Turkey Breast (5/10) - Another item I wish they just tweak a little bit. Could be more tender, but they certainly need to tone down the salt level. Coleslaw (3/10) - Watery mess that reminds me of the stuff from KFC. Skip this item. Herb Crushed Potatoes (7/10) - Best side I tasted. Lightly seasoned with herbs. Pretty good. Smoked MT Beans (2/10) - Talk about boring. Nothing but sweetness. Skip this one even more. Kallards (1/10) - Blander than the beans. Tough AF. Skip this one at all cost. Cornbread (6/10) - Little dry but not too bad. Btw, they only have one BBQ sauce on the table and it was just whatever. I guess my prayers have not gone answered. The search continues.

I recently visited Maple Tree BBQ Smokehouse in Riverhead, NY, and it was an absolute treat for a BBQ lover! Come here to pack in the proteins and enjoy a good meal. Food was delicious. I ordered pastrami and brisket and it was bursting with flavor. Every bite slapped. The burnt tip briskets were also very good if you like a leaner part of the meats. My favorite was the Cubano on rye. It was SO GOOD, tender and juicy! Everything had a delightful mesquite smoky flavor that was a nice touch. My only gripe is that we ordered two brownie ice cream dessert after our meals and it took forever. I'm not sure if they forgot or something but we must have waited over 30 minutes for it. But other than that, the food was great and we will definitely return again!

Really good BBQ. Stopped in for lunch after close to 100 miles of motorcycle riding. There is parking across the street from the restaurant but it is not paved, It's gravel. Luckily there is enough space on the street directly in front for about two cars or 7-8 bikes. All good. Service was okay. We were greeted on the walk-in but there was a bit of a lull before we were assisted. There was one young lady (slightly older than the rest of the staff) whose engagement surpassed the rest. Unfortunately she isn't who served us. The young lady that took our order seemed disinterested until we began discussing the menu and then she seemed to perk up a bit. The guy that brought our food out went to the wrong table, he was corrected by the guest at the table as we also advised him that the food looked like our order. He mentioned twice that we must have switched table numbers. (How, the numbers are issued by the person that takes your order). He seemed rushed, but the place wasn't busy. There were two tables occupied when we arrived. Now on to the food. My wife and I both ordered the Tarheel. Pulled pork sandwich, she had hers with sweet potato fries and I had the potato salad and we shared a portion of burnt ends with sweet bbq sauce. Two sweet teas for the drinks. I have to say, everything was really good. Not one food complaint . Decent sized portions, I feel like I got my monies worth but not stuffed to the gills with glutinous amounts of food. Cooked well, and flavorful. If we were closer I may have gone back the next day to try something else. The food, decor, seating, ample parking and prices were all solid. With all that said, I think the fifth star can be achieved with a little coaching in the service department.

This place is tiny but mighty! The wait to order was about 20 minutes and then we waited about an hour for our food. It was a weekend so the place was packed. The food was amazing. It was worth the wait! We ordered a half rack of ribs with cornbread and Mac & cheese. The ribs were to die for.

There are some great reviews and some mediocre reviews for this BBQ restaurant. I also know that the owner, Dennis, is very proud of his restaurant. But honestly, there are some great and some not so great things here. The restaurant is very cute and the smell hits you with a warm relaxed feeling of smoked meats. But the tables were dirty. Every single one of them required a wipe down- and I came during a quiet time when only me and one other patron were dining. But then the bathrooms were clean. The staff - super friendly and helpful. As far as the meal- We ordered: Half chicken, burnt ends, fatty brisket, smoked turkey and coleslaw. Here's the good: The burnt ends were great and the sauce it was swimming in was fantastic. The problem is that if you want more of that sauce, you have to buy more. The two sauces they provide on the table were bland- and lacking the BBQ experience you'd expect. The smoked turkey was also very good, although the rind around the turkey was stretchy and difficult to chew. The brisket was very good-fatty, tasteful and the stand out of the meal. The chicken was absolutely terrible. I mean really a major disappointment. It was dry and flavorless and the skin was waxy, tough and not edible. The coleslaw was excellent. I think the coleslaw might be better than other BBQ places we've tried. I feel like there are better BBQ options out there which is disappointing because I know that there is love in the restaurant and the owner really wants you to love the food. I think that there needs to be some attention paid to some of the critical reviews here because they aren't wrong. I'd love to say I will come back-I just left not feeling like I am craving to do so.

Solid fall off the bone tender ribs, my favorite! Corn bread was also delicious, light and fluffy. Their spicy bbq sauce pairs well with the ribs. Jalapeño pickles were crunchy with a hint of spice. Washed it down with their refreshing lemonade. They have nice picnic seating areas outside in the back. Our favorite BBQ place on Long Island.

Swing by this smokehouse for lunch. For not much more than the price of fast food, you can get a combo with two sides, tacos or a sandwich. My wife had pulled chicken and I had ribs. Both were really good. The ribs had a crusty bark and good flavor. The Mac and cheese was really good and the collard greens were good. A very pleasant surprise. Add a star if you are a local.

Ok so, in a positive and fair review, this would be an amazing food truck. The ribs are on point. Perfectly cooked, soft, fall off the bone. Good flavor, nicely seasoned. A food truck focused on the ribs. Perfect. It is where the menu expands that this restaurant falls off a bit. Chicken wings & half chicken platter dry as a bone. The sides are good, But the greens are kale not collard and it just doesn't seem right! The Mac and cheese is good. The best is the Cole slaw. read more

Had the pleasure to come in to Maple Tree on a beautiful Thursday evening and boy, was the smell appetizing. A wonderful smoky flavor mixed with a clean, rustic interior made for a wonderful atmosphere. I ordered the half rack of ribs, which is one of my go to's at the BBQ restaurants I've been fortunate enough to visit throughout the world. Although it wasn't quite as good as Kansas City joints, it was extremely tender and flavorful. It has a nice dry rub on it with just enough spices but not overpowering. In addition, the owner spent time talking to us and walking us through his smoking process, which is always find very special. He definitely knows his stuff on BBQ. Next time I return, I definitely want to give some other meats a try, but based on what I saw on other plates, the smoke rings were absolutely beautiful. Can't wait to come back and try more. read more

Really good BBQ, which is hard to find on LI. I was in riverhead for jury duty and needed somewhere to eat for lunch. I'm so happy I found this place. I got a combo meat platter with brisket and North Carolina pulled pork. Both were great. The spicy pickles side was unique and tasty but the cornbread was a bit too dry. I wish I got the Mac and cheese. I will try the ribs and Mac if I'm called back to court tomorrow. read more

Delicious, authentic BBQ! A rare find on Long Island. The staff was enthusiastic and knowledgable about their food. They've completely renovated the place with new owners. The place looks like a nice sit down restaurant. It's not that big. It's so bright now. I didn't see any high chairs here. The waitress, Michelle, is still the nicest waitress ever. They don't have their awesome baked stuff yet. Too bad because it's Sooo good here. The food is still very good. Some of the meat are a little fatty but the flavors are great. The home made ice tea is so good. I am not a mac and cheese person but theirs is very good. This time I had the pastrami sandwich. This is definitely one of those " do not judge a book by it's cover" we were in the area and after loads of yelping and reviews of fellow yelpers, we decided to give this place a try. We pulled up and my husband and i both thought the same! " i hope he changes his mind about this place" "i hope she changes her mind about This place" ... (you know one of those house converted to restaurant )lol none of us said anything.. parked.. (by the way there is seating across restaurant just for customers nearby a lake) beautiful view!. We walked in and was pleasantly surprised. The place was so clean i told my boys don't make a mess !!! the tables were spotless!! customer service was awesome! Nice and friendly! Very good bbq and was a surprise find! Went there for some burnt ends and was pleasantly greeted by the owner and the son. Great customer service! The smoked turkey looked great, I just wish I had room to try it! The location is very close to the Tanger outlets and you cant go wrong by coming here for lunch since it offers much better options than the food court! read more

We came to Maple Tree BBQ on a Saturday night, after what seemed to be a busy day. They were out of a few things but we found some delicious plates to share and devour. The reason for this review is not for the food (which was exceptional, pulled pork was my choice) but for the service. All the employees went out of their way to give us a delicious meal. Alice especially, she was handling front of house orders, while making drinks and later on serving us our meal... all with a smile on her face (well, under her mask of course!) This is some of the best brisket you can get outside of Texas! The food was all real BBQ. You got the nice taste of the wood with all the juiciness expected with out the sauce. The wings are amazing and so tasty. This will be a regular BBQ stop for me in the future when visiting Riverhead. Next time I will probably order food to go. read more

A lucky turn took us to this outstanding bbq! Before I talk about the ribs, let me say that they had The Best Collard Greens, I've had in my entire life. Collards are always my go to side and here, they win the Best Ever award! I asked and they told me they cook it in the stock from the smoking the pork shoulders. Not fatty drippings, but the pork juice! The ribs were center cut, had beautiful smoke rings and tender but not slide off the bone too quick. Perfection! We ate in the sunny backyard, relaxed and then reflected on how great a meal we had just enjoyed. Service is friendly and top notch. One visit and you want to be a regular. read more

Great hidden gem!! I found this restaurant on yelp as I was looking for a quick stop to pick up take out after a day out in the riverhead neighborhood. My family and I were super impressed, food was delicious and so was the service! The restaurant was extremely clean, and the food was made fresh to order and delicious! OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I don't like BBQ!!! My husband insisted we come here for his birthday and to say that I wasn't thrilled is an understatement. Welllll I have to say that I am converted!!!! From the appetizers to the entree to dessert everything was amazing!!!! Dennis, Kathleen and Gwen were so welcoming. We were a group of 10 and food came out quickly and everything was right. This was some good bbq! The brisket burnt ends was excellent! Melt in your mouth good. The sauce was nice and savory. The NC pulled pork was the perfect amount of spicy: you felt the zing but it didn't kill the taste buds ;) The regular pulled chicken was just ok. Their cornbread was so good. It was not savory, but it wasn't overly sweet either. It was well balanced. The only downside is that the cornbread was available at the counter in a bag, so it wasn't warm. My fave root beer, Virgil's is available! The perfect drink to go with bbq. read more

When i go to Riverhead this is the roadside BBQ joint i want to visit. It has riverside parking across the street. Just be careful when you walk or run across, sometimes the traffic can get a bit busy especially when you are hungry. That place is never too busy but still there is a bit of waiting. Yesterday I went to that ramen shop in Bayside, Kyuramen....Today I came to Maple Tree, it was such a contrast. The guy behind the bar and registrar would actually say, sorry to keep you waiting....And when we left, he would say Enjoy the rest of your day. That's manner and etiquette I know growing up. But for some reason some restaurants and staff just don't care that aspect of the business or human interactions anymore. Back to BBQ, I really enjoy their meat and simple decor. Nothing more to say. read more

First off didn't realize it's more of a take out place-when we called to see if there was a long wait I think the guy laughed at us. When we arrived I understood why. Staff wasn't really too patient with us-first time there. The food was worth it. I'm really not Into bbq bc it's so heavy but this wasn't. The rib platter was not greasy!! The corn bread was delicious!! Highly recommend if in area. Great drinks too!! read more

This place is a great place to have a quick bbq meal for a fair price. The burnt ends weren't exactly burnt like expected but nonetheless was delicious. Chicken wings and sauces provided were very good. Had a great local brew from Southampton brewery, I really love drinking local stuff at restaurants. I'll be back when I'm in the mood for bbq again in the area. read more

I've been looking for good barbecue on the North Fork and finally found it! We ordered the full rack family dinner and a couple of burnt tip sliders (just had to try them). Best barbecue I've had in a looooong time!! My boyfriend and I got a little bit of everything and we couldn't decide what we liked the most, it was all so good! Besides the food, the experience was also wonderful. The staff was so polite and friendly! Very disappointing. Read all these great reviews, and we got a mediocre meal at best. They were out of ribs, wings , cornbread and sweet potatoes. We had to rethink our order. Salmon was good but kind of bland. The pulled pork was a bit dry but the yummy sauce came to the rescue. The herb potatoes were good but the beans were more lentil. The Mac and cheese was very watered down. I really wanted to like this place. We might give this place a second chance do to a nice staff and others good reviews. read more

We were happy to find this cozy little place after roaming inside the aquarium for a few hours. Place is very clean inside. Food was great. We tried a pulled pork sandwich, beans, burnt ends, coleslaw and some ribs. Ribs in particular were outstanding. This will be our spot during next visit to the aquarium for sure. Stick with the bbq that for sure is 4* and it's on point what gave the review a 3* is your extras you can do better: That sangria was gross needs more love it just was like boxed red wine and some lime wedges and peaches yuck even tried to add more peaches and some sprite to sweeten it a bit and still was bitter and not pleasing. Fresh out of the oven bread pudding was bland and had no sweetness or creamy consistency was dry dense and throwing caramel and nuts over it doesn't make it better Ranch hand was delicious Potato salad is really soupy/watery and had very little flavor needed more love added. Rib platter 2 of the 3 ribs were cooked perfect the fat rendered nice and flavorful but the 3rd looked a little undercooked (rawish) but I'm almost positive it was a fat pocket by the cartilage that visually and texturely just couldn't get passed it just didn't render the fat well. This restaurant catered my friend's wedding and the food was horrible. I live in North Carolina and all I can say is New Yorkers dont know shit about BBQ. Ribs were the only edible meat. Brisket and chicken were tough and flavorless. BBQ sauces were also pretty bad, no flavor absolutely no difference between regular and "spicy." Mac and cheese was super creamy but tasted sweet like it was made with condensed milk instead of cheese. BBQ beans were not sweet and smoky, instead they were doused in cumin and tasted bitter. Cornbread was dry and hard. Potato salad was edible. Other northerns at the wedding seemed to enjoy the food but I couldn't wait to get back home to the South. read more

Maple Tree BBQ grew out of the Maple Tree Deli, where our roots in roasting meats was established. After taking a trip south we started working with BBQ, over the past 8 years we have developed some tasty dishes and would like to invite you to come in and share them with us.

Meet the Business Owner: Dennis O.

I traded my long NYC commute and office job for a 10 minute one and followed my passion to own a BBQ smokehouse. My weekend Q is now my full time job that I love. We do the most authentic BBQ in Long Island and we hope you will enjoy our food and hospitality!

I have a feeling this place will become a family favorite restaurant, only complaint is that I wish we lived closer! The "Slider Kit" option is perfect for feeding a family/group. Excellent food, great counter service. The owner is a former NYC chef who puts out terrific North Carolina BBQ with a range of sides varying from mac and cheese to baked beans. The highlight is the variety of meat with pulled pork and beef brisket being particulalry good. Breads and desserts are made on premises. My wife and I had Maple Tree cater our Thanksgiving dinner when we were under the weather with a cold. Maple Tree hit a home run with superb turkey,stuffing,turnips, steamed mixed veggies, cranberry sauce and dinner rolls. The meal was the equal of any we've eaten in restaurant. read more

Some of the best BBQ you will find on Long Island. Stopped in with a friend during a trip out east and we left full and satisfied. We had the brisket and pastrami which were both delicious- full of flavor! Had to have the mac and cheese as a side which stood up great next to the meats we had. Came in on a gorgeous day in May, the BBQ season knocking on the door. I BBQ year round but tis the season is what I'm getting at; and was just jiving for some good smoked BBQ. Thing is I didn't have the time to get a cook going since getting home from work late so we decided to give this well recommended spot a shot. Wow what a great choice and sooo happy we came here!! Some things were ordered were the St. Louis ribs, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, jumbo BBQ chicken wings...sides were collard greens, red potato salad and mac & cheese: and every single item was outstanding. All came with the staple corned bread. I wish could have ordered the whole menu, everything looked great but sort of "aimed in the middle" I suppose. The ribs were tender, with a perfect bite pull. Great smoke flavor..just was a real nice rib. The pulled pork was juicy, and the BBQ chicken and their jumbo wings were on point; crispy skin and juicy meat. The collard greens, potato salad and mac & cheese were great sides to complete but they have much more sides to choose from let me tell you. Had a really unique experience and one of my highlights of the visit was having the pleasure and opportunity to meet and take a quick tour with chef and owner Eric, who takes real pride in what he does. It's immediately clear the passion, dedication, and respect he has for the craft of true smoked BBQ. Whats important to understand is how difficult it is to master smoked BBQ. Authentic smoked BBQ is NOT fast food!! Brisket alone can take anywhere from 12-18 hours to cook properly, and unlike many other styles of cooking, mistakes cannot simply be fixed quickly. If pasta is overcooked, you make another batch. If a steak is undercooked, you throw it back on the grill. If a sauce is under seasoned you can adjust it..etc BBQ doesn't work like that! To use brisket again..If a brisket dries out after an hours long cook (mostly started overnight before the restaurant even opens) that entire piece of meat is basically gone. You cannot "undo" it. List goes on for everything else... Quality BBQ is hard to come by, especially outside places like Memphis and Texas. Real BBQ is one of the few forms of cooking where the chef is controlling a live fire, timing, airflow, smoke, temperature, and consistency all at the same time. You gotta appreciate this stuff! Ladies and gentlemen, Bobbique is one of those unique places that truly respects the craft. This place is firing on all cylinders! You will taste the experience, patience, and hard work in every bite. I 100% definitely recommend making this your go to for great BBQ. Absolutely worth the visit.
