Shared delicious meals in a lovely setting. Tables spaced far enough apart to feel safe dining inside. Ribs were a bit too salty for my taste. Husband enjoyed fried chicken & fried green tomatoes. After a long day at work a coworker and I decided to check out this place! She had mentioned how this location was previously further North on western, but she hadn't been since they had moved. This location at right at the end of Old Western Blvd., so you can't really miss it. Walking into the place, we were promptly greeted and shown to our table. The place is dimly lit, and the decor will put you in the mind of Mardi Gras (masks, purple, green and yellow things), music playing in the background, and an overall calm ambiance. We were also greeted promptly by our server who brought cornbread/jalapeño muffins and water! The menu isn't overwhelmingly extensive, but there's enough on there to go through a few times. My coworker and I decided that we would get two items and share, so we ended up getting "Dis n Dat" and "Beef Brisket". We were both pretty hungry, so we asked for more muffins and chatted until the food came! I would say perhaps 10-15 minutes later the food was out, ans it look great! Generous portions, and everything was placed nicely. I enjoyed my dish (the beef brisket) and I felt that the dishes meshed well together. The dressing was fluffy and reminded me of the corn bread muffins with a lighter flavor. The brisket was cut into chunks and made the plate that much easier to enjoy! My coworker had the "dis n dat" platter and enjoyed hers as well. She enjoyed the flavor of the ribs, and pointed out that the etouffe (idk how to spell it ) had good flavor with a slight kick. We ended the meal with the banana pudding cake, which was a little disappointing, but not terrible. Overall I'd be willing to try this place again to see what else the menu has to offer! read more

I could do a really long review of the new Maple Tree Inn. The food was not happening. Gumbo was like you were eating jambalaya. Shrimp and grits. Food was not hitting on much at all. What happened to the chef? Is this a new one or has he just simply just stopped caring. Turn on the lights and see what's happening. Blue Island rocked with the food. It's April 1st. I called The Maple Tree Inn for a take out order because it's all we can do now. I got Jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, Sea Food Gumbo, and Hickory BBQ Shrimp. If I had my way, I would order food from here every day. Obviously that is not practical, after a month I'd be 400 lbs. and broke. The food is fantastic as usual. Generally, you can't go wrong here! Most of their dishes are pretty darn perfect. However, within the last year or two they've changed their catfish recipe and it's pretty disappointing. It was previously lightly breaded with maybe a cornmeal breading. It's now a bit more Long John Silver with a super thick heavy fried batter. read more

We loved the decor in the place. The Servers were very welcoming, friendly and efficient! The breakfast was very good! The food at the old and new Maple Tree Inn is always good but they have ABSOLUTELY lost sight of PROPER customer service. That being said: our wait staff was great. It was the Manager/Rigid policies or "the family" behind the Maple Tree Inn. We made reservations for 10 people at 5:00. Some guests were traveling a significant distance. They did tell us we would have 2 tables of 5 and took two credit card as deposit. When we got there, they put the tables across the restaurant from each other. They would not budge...All of us tried to plea our case. Wd wanted to be together. That is the point of dining out with coworkers. We sat separately and realized 2 friends could not make it. When we asked if we could add a chair and squeeze us together( it would have worked because we were in a corner), we were told No and that the credit cards would be CHARGED $25 per no show!! I felt so sorry for the gal that tried to plan this festive NewOrleans early night out with coworkers. I raved about Maple Tree Inn before we went. I was so excited. It would be tough for me to think of worse Customer Service that I've had. While I understand that there might not have been any flexibility, they just kept making worse. Even if they had to be THAT Rigid, they should've been trying to find a way to keep us happy. Genuine apology to start, waive the charge, gift certificate for free deserts or drinks...SoMEThing!! My MEETUP group actually managed to get us a reservation for a Sunday afternoon! I had the Phoenix drink, which was more ice than drink, but it was good. I shared a roasted Brussels sprouts appetizer, we both enjoyed. I had the blackened redfish etouffee...it was absolutely fantastic! Just enough spice. Some of the ladies had the jambalaya...one lady had the chicken N waffles..another had catfish...brisket. AAAAHHHHH, DESSERT! I had the warm peach cobbler, with pecan ice cream. Heavenly! The atmosphere is great. It's a beautiful restaurant and was beautifully decorated. The service is A1. If you're not into spicy food then this is not the place for you. My favorite dish is shrimp and grits and it's made spicy there. They were not able to alter the spice level which was disappointing. I go to New Orleans a lot and they can modify the spice level. I would recommend this place if you're looking for real nice restaurant it's worth it if you like spicy food read more

The place is a hidden gem. I live in Blue Island and had no idea this existed until I saw it on one of those WTTW shows. The wife and I went in on weekday. The atmosphere is chill. The lights were dim and candles were lit. The food was amazing. You should try the 'dis and dat' platter. IT WAS GOOD!! The only thing I would say is that I am not sure if this place is infant friendly......not saying this is bad at all though. We took our 8 month old and brought his car seat in. They don't have high chairs or booster seats so don't bring the kids if you don't have to. They were more than welcoming to us still. They didn't mind us with our car seat as all. Very friendly people. Highly Recommended! Also, let me add that the night we went, they had a drink special that was house made sangria....I think. It was good too. 10 thumbs up! read more

Very good Cajun restaurant in Blue Island. Perhaps one of the better ones in the south suburbs. We went as part of a group of 6. The menu is not big but good enough. We ordered many things. The Catfish, the jambalaya, the shrimps on cheesy grits. All was excellent. The desserts were also good. We tried the brownie, the foster bread pudding, and the Beignets that were really good. One dish caught my attention. An appetizer, the Alligator cheesecake. Think a crab cake mixed with creamy cheese, shaped like a baseball and then fried. This is a savory dish that is served on a reduction of what I think is wine with some pickled onions, really interesting and quite good. The current location in downtown Blue Island is temporary due to a fire damaging their original one but I think that it was still a charming location. Service is on point. One of the staffers, the one that was packing our leftovers was really attentive. Destiny is her name. A keeper. In all we were really pleased. And we will go back. Make sure u do reservations. It's a cool, snowy night. The perfect backdrop to go to this super cool New Orleans style classic in Blue Island. We started by enjoying the jazz music and classic blues while having drinks at the fun, cozy bar in this historic 2 flat on Olde Western Ave in Blue Island. If you do not know about this area you have to check it out. It has always been a hidden secret of the Southside but now it's bursting with new bars, restaurants, breweries and clubs. We are super psyched that one of our favorite restaurants in the world now has vegan offerings on the menu, a vegan friendly chef and I heard from a little birdie vegan employees that may help the cause a little. Of course they still have all of their carnivores classics that one in our party enjoyed but I am here to tell you about the delicious vegan options that I shared with my buddy, Lena B. The menu has a little v in a circle next to every item that is vegan or can be easily converted to vegan. They also ASKED if we had any dietary preferences when we made the reservation and everyone from the host to the waiter the the chef knew we were coming. They did not make a big deal of it but made sure to accommodate us. LOVE THAT! There were so many options that we did not get an opportunity to try them all. We started with a couple classic Mardi Gras drinks of course!! A Hurricane with fresh fruit both alcoholic and virgin! Also had a voodoo drink that was also fruity and delicious with a kick. Moved over to our table on the porch that's decorated with lots of New Orleans style art. I love the porch because it looks out over the bridge in the distance overhead that carries freight trains that go by periodically. It totally adds to the atmosphere of this unique restaurant. Our waiter Beto could not have been better. He was the perfect combination of helpful, efficient and friendly and gave us room to enjoy our own company and meal at our leisure. We started with the mushroom tart. They just left off the animal cheese and the tart was vegan delicious. The crust was light and crunchy and the caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms melted in your mouth. It came with a pesto sauce that added a touch of flavor and was also vegan. We had a difficult time deciding from there. We chose the corn bisque w/o the cute little crabs (vegan), it was so spicy and delicious, the spinach salad with pecans, red onions and a super tasty warm sauce, also vegan when leaving off the cow cheese. We then selected the vegan jambalaya and the vegan gumbo which were both as delicious as any New Orleans style dish you could ask for w/o the animals!! There were huge chunks of every kind of roasted vegetable in each unique delicious sauce with rice. Of course we had to take so much home. Score! Almost forgot- the chef was so sweet to make a special vegan caramelized peaches dessert for us! Thank you so much. Hopefully next time there will be. Vegan dessert on the menu. Why on earth would you want to include animals on your plate when you can enjoy everything you want and it's delicious, healthier and better for the animals and the environment and the planet!! This was our third dinner at Maple Tree Inn. The 1st time we made reservations and we were supposed to be in the "bar area", imagine my surprise when we were actually seated at the bar. That was a tragedy! We decided to give hem a second try and it was good. Last night was crazy good, and the hospitality was unbelievable. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our 7:00 reservation. The hostess came by and apologized and offered us appetizers for our inconvenience. The meal, server and hospitality was outstanding. This has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants. My first visit at the new location with friends. The combo hurricane drink was ok....Crab cakes were delicious! The fried green tomatoes..well I'm still looking for the tomato! The cornbread was pleasant. Myself along with one friend ordered the Blackened Redfish with etouffee and sautéed collard greens. NOT GOOD AT ALL!! The collard greens were very bitter. The redfish lacked flavor (mainly salt) in the blackening seasoning. The etouffee tasted "muddy". I was very dissappointed!!!! We were adding salt, hot sauce, lemon juice to our food to make it tasteful. EPIC FAIL Maple Tree!!!! read more
