Key lime pie slice was absolutely delicious and huge, they should all taste like this. We've only been her once, so we can't comment on whether our experience was typical. Fantastic place. Great service. They can host every type of event you want; date night to night out with friends to a full family night. Outdoor "Plank" bar has Jenga, giant Connect 4 and corn hole. Had dinner at Marais last night and it was fabulous!! The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. We ate in the more formal dining room. I had the shrimp and grits with smoked Gouda and it was excellent. My friend had the grilled fish with wild rice and asparagus. She ate every bite. We started with glasses of wine and the stuffed okra rellenos. Lily was our server and she was excellent. We were too full for dessert but the dessert menu looked good. Pros - easy to find, lots of dining options, beautiful decor and excellent food. Cons - valet only (the parking lot is tiny, so they park offsite in 2 other lots), they served a warm bread when we sat down and it was boring and bland (a crunchy French bread would be perfect!!), and the whipped butter tasted like margarine. Come on, upgrade those 2 things and the whole experience would be perfect. We toured the rest of the restaurant after we ate. Fun casual bar downstairs and lots of outdoor shady seating. Right on the bayou, so beautiful views! I think the hostesses should ask if this is your first visit. If the answer is yes, then they should spend 2 minutes telling you about your choices for dining. Prices vary in the different dining areas as do acceptable attire. Just my 2 cents!! But we will be back! read more

Atmosphere was Great, very upscale for Dickinson, TX. Food tasted good, but a little overpriced, service was good except we got our main course before the appetizer. Not sure if it was the kitchens fault or our waiter. Wish I would have got to try the appetizer I ordered! Great place to go for a date or drinks. There's a lot to like about a white table cloth fine dining restaurant down here in the Bay Area. My wife and I have been a couple of times on date night. The service is usually pretty good. They tried to take our wine to a different table on two occasions but that was more humorous than anything. Speaking of wine, the prices are pretty fair and a nice selection of new world bottles. Some pretty solid offerings. Multiple concepts so there is something for everyone including like a dive bar underneath that's creek side. Four stars overall but an extra star for proximity to house. read more

I have been bugging my husband to go here, so we finally did to celebrate my birthday. Suffice it to say, we were rather disappointed. First of all, the staff was excellent, the ambiance was lovely, and the wine selection was outstanding! But, the Bacon Candy was dry and overcooked (though tasty) and the prime rib was rather bland and especially tough! We were told that their prime rib is very popular, but we can only imagine that it is because the patrons don't know any better. The one highlight of the evening was the Oysters Vieux Carre! Having lived in the New Orleans area for many years, we found these to be as close to authentic that we have found outside the "Quarter." It has been suggested that we give Marais another chance to wow us. Only time will tell. read more

I am giving 3 stars because my husband and friends liked Marais and I really did not care for the food at all. The place is beautiful though. One of the prettiest I have been actually and HUGE. As others have stated though this place is LOUD to be so nice inside. The bars are nice and love the swings! I feel conflicted though because the dining area screams fancy and the bar areas are very casual. The waitstaff we encountered were all nice too. Valets were super nice and very reasonable. The bar took freaking forever as others stated too when in the dining room like 20-30 minutes for a drink but were fairly speedy when you were in the bar downstairs. The wedge salad was ok. Nothing special like I had heard. The dressing was more like mayo and there was not much of it and the avocado well with like 2 bites it seemed like an after thought and was way too ripe. Not much of anything really except the lettuce (I would have paid a couple more bucks for some more stuff on it). The blackened shrimp I got with my wedge salad were good though. The crab cake with fried green tomatoes was well, odd (we did all agree on that). It had a really weird off taste (we could not figure out what it was) even though it was mostly crab and the tomatoes were so thin you could only taste the breading and the tiny bit of sauce on top was such a small amount it soaked into the crab cake and we could not tell it had any sauce at all (The server had to point it out). Not worth $18 by any means. The husbands both had the shrimp and grits with scallops. They scarfed it down and it was tasty but nothing fresh tasting about it Too rich with nothing to cut the fat and richness of the gravy (yes gravy not sauce). The shrimp were good, the scallops everyone liked except me and I thought the grits should be creamy (not solid as grits get after sitting and getting cold, you know what I mean). Anyway this place really is beautiful and makes me want to go back but...........for the prices I probably will not. read more

We ventured for dinner at Marais for the first time recently, and were happily surprised. Our waiter was very charismatic, and started us off with some fresh house french bread and a dozen of the baked Marais Trio oysters. The oysters were piping hot and very fresh, as was the french bread with butter. The oysters could have been a little bigger and had more toppings on them, but they were very good. I also tried one of their house special Martinis that had a shot of raspberry liquor at the bottom. It was very good, but a little too weak and sweet for me personally. The martini glasses are a little too shallow as well, but acceptable. For dinner I opted for the stuffed fresh flounder, while my Wife and Daughter each tried the Osso Buco. My flounder was very fresh, but it would have been better had it been de-boned prior to serving. Both of my girls loved the Osso Buco, as well as offered me a taste or two. Wow, the Osso Buco was fantastic and worthy itself of a return visit to Marais. The atmosphere of the entire restaurant is reminiscent of a true New Orleans French Quarter establishment. Marais is a multi-level place, with a formal restaurant upstairs, a charming separate bar, and outdoor patio, and a lower, less expensive and casual restaurant below. There is also a varied wine list with interesting choices for just about any palate. Oh, and don't forget to try the house-made beignets for dessert. My Wife and my Daughter absolutely loved them! I would definitely recommend trying Marais for an upscale, cajun influenced and formal dinner experience. We will certainly be returning again. read more

Grossly overpriced for Dickinson. The gumbo was lukewarm. $18 for simple bowl of chicken, sausage jambalaya pasta. The chicken was too spicy and I had to hunt for the sausage but managed to find 5 small slices. However, the building is really nice and nice atmosphere but be prepared to drop some major $$$ for dinner. A couple could easily drop $100 for drinks and dinner. read more

I believe this restaurant is overrated. The food is just ok and overpriced for what you get. Stay away from the pork-belly. They do not know how to cook it correctly. We ordered it and it was just a glob of fat with no crispy edges. The waiter we had was obnoxious and boisterous. I have eaten here 4 times and never had a fantastic meal. read more

Excellent waitstaff, great service. Food was enjoyable in a beautiful atmosphere. Very well crafted drinks at all of the various bars on property. Parking a little difficult but they allow you to park at their bbq restaurant next door. Which also had a great varied menu. read more

Food okay. I've had better oysters in the area but wife's seafood tower was pretty tasty. A little pricy with few lighter options in the main dinning room or main patio. More then what we were looking for for a casual Tuesday night dinner. Cheaper fare at the bar downstairs but it can't be ordered on the main patio. No beer list - I had to actually go to the bar to see what they had. A lot going on with main restaurant and multiple bars. It was our first time there and no one said hey if you want a $40 dollar steak sit here but if you are looking for a $10 shrimp po-boy site here. Beautiful location and we will return at a later time now that we know what to expect. Beware - Dickinson's finest inconspicuously hanging out in the parking lot "guarding cars" and watching patrons "walk" to their cars at 9PM. read more

What a neat place close to home. The food was excellent, I had snapper litely blackened over kale and roasted sweet potatoes. Gumbo was very good , fried shrimp platter at the table was huge and great for the price . Nice glass of wine for $5 during happy hour. Service was outstanding and the manager was on the floor . My husband and I like to bar hop downtown Houston on occasion. BUT, this place has 3-in-one! The steaks for dinner in the main restaurant were phenomenal! And when have you been given the opportunity to choose your steak knife??? After dinner we went next door to "Benson's" for a couple more drinks. The bartenders were great and very friendly! Actually gave me a wine suggestion, tried it, loved it! My husband and I held hands while swinging at the bar! Then off to "The Plank" downstairs for dessert and maybe one more drink. Pirate themed bar which is open to the outside. Husband and I played Jenga while listening to great live singer. Nonetheless, this is a diamond in the rough. Our new hangout spot for sure! read more

The atmosphere is nice, a little noisy, the staff was top notch. The food was a different story. I was not impressed with anything we ordered. It simply was poorly seasoned. Great atmosphere but the fine dining food needs work. Drinks were made well. I would go again for the patio or oysters and a drink at the bar. I had a steak that was not seared and seasoned and the garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic, seasoning and had chunks of potato. It was not creamy or delicious. The potatoes was obviously made in big batches and left without rewhipping or seasoning prior to serving- awful. I told our waitress and she said that she had complaints before about the potatoes. She did not take the potatoes back and offer another side. Our waitress was sweet but very inexperienced for fine dining. For great dining head to Galveston or just up the street to Perry's. However the place is new and maybe will improve. read more

The aged beef was amazing and the prices were on point. To get the same thing at Killen's would have been $25 dollars more. The cream spinach side was unbelievable, I could have gotten a side of bread and that and been perfectly content. Great atmosphere also. You have to give it try.
