So everytime I order on door dash they get it wrong. My order from the back is never how I order it I never get my extra stuff when I order 3x on the ingredients I never get it. It's like they don't know how to read the tickets or just don't care what people want it has happened plenty of times and not just to me to my friends also. The pizza I order is correct it's just the stuff I order from the back. Not sure what's going on in their kitchen with their cook but they need to get it together I have reported this to door dash every time and I told them I expect my food to be correct next time or I want it free and I won't be ordering from them again if it happens again. Or maybe just won't order anything from the back cause the front end knows how to read tickets and know what they r doing it's just their kitchen help. Also if u r going to have your door dash open to a certain time then u need to keep the grill open until that time also. My husband is a chef and I can tell when my food is cooked in a pan versus on the grill and this was also brought to door dash attention. Do not let the negative reviews currently on Yelp turn you off of ordering from Marcello's. We almost missed a nice dining option because of them and it would have been a mistake. Marcello's Pizza is your standard downtown Pizzeria. You order at the counter and the menu includes Pizza, Stromboli's, Calzones, Boat's, and many other items. They serve Coke products from the foundation, can, and bottle. Marcello's also has a better than average amount of seating for dining in and it was clean. I ordered two slices of cheese and while my slices looked to be sitting for a while, they came out of the oven hot and fresh tasting. My friend ordered a boat, which is a hot sub finished in the oven, and he enjoyed it. Bathrooms were also nice and clean. Overall, I would without question return here to dine again and try more of the menu items. read more

Time to update my review unfortunately. Today I ordered a pizza from Marcellos and it was a mess. The pizza was not fully cooked and it wasn't cut. Huge disappointment!!! We tried throwing pieces in a toaster oven at the office and it helped but then we realized that after paying $16 for a medium pizza, it should be made correctly and be cut. We have called the restaurant to hopefully make this right. We order from this place for the entire staff weekly and the fact that they would send out something like this to a regular customer really sucks. read more

Firstly, the positive: Marcello's has a very nice and helpful staff. The appearance of the restaurant, it's beautiful brickwork around the ovens are so promising, the size of the booths are nice and spacious: unfortunately, the food just doesn't measure up. The quality of lettuce in the salad (Caesar and Garden--I tried both) was poor. Crisp, but very bland. Also, tried the eggplant Parmesan and it was far too greasy to finish. I ordered three subs that was supposed to have steak, white American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and fried onions. The sub only came with meat and cheese because she couldn't comprehend what so ever! The lady seemed special Ed, she took 10-15 mins to take the order, wrote the wrong number down and wrote the whole order wrong! I called to let them know what happened and the owner lied and said he heard the whole order when he wasn't on the phone to hear what I said!The dumb ass chick on the phone didn't even know the menu or if they sold fish sandwiches. Then ten mins later after they messed up our order they called with someone else order because the order taker can't do her job right and write down orders wrong!! It's pretty sad when the person behind the counter looks at you three separate times, as you are waiting to be waited upon, but proceeds to wait on four (4) other separate people, WHO CAME IN AFTER ME, first. Inconsistent. At times, their pizza is cooked perfectly and this is awesome. My girlfried is from NY and she is a pizza snob and can't stand any pizza in York, probably on principle. At times, the pizza is overcooked by a lot. This has not happened to me once or twice, but perhaps 20% of every delivery I have gotten spanning 17 years. I keep going back because the good pizzas are REALLY good. Their fries are terrible. They need to hijack Genova's fries. I've felt these have been terrible for a decade. I don't know who could think they were good. My girlfriend LOVES cheese fries. Well, these are pretty bad by her standards. Where she's from in NY, you get them with cheddar, cheeze whiz, or mozzarella on them. Here, it appears as if they mail it in with a piece of American cheese. Not a fan of their fall Fry line. That's a joke. Their mozzarella sticks are also pretty bad. They are always cold by the time I get them and I'm a HUGE mozz stick fan, and this is disappointing. One of the favorite things I've ever had in my life is a cheesesteak stomboli from a place called Nuse's in Morgantown, PA, where my high school was. That's about to be my next review. Marcello's makes almost an identical cheese steak stromboli, but they always seem to short me on the sauce. This is a highlight of my life to have...it's THAT good. Lastly, their wings are fantastic. Hot, but not blazing hot. Not a huge fan of their subs. I've had the cheeseburger sub, italian, and meatball sub. The meatball sub was pretty awful. The italians are better than average but not awesome. I would give this 3.5 stars if I could. Too inconsistent to be great, and terrible fries and sub par subs. Pizza is killer on good days and cheesesteak stomboli and wings are a definite plus. For some reasons, the medium pizzas come out better than the large. The large seem to be overcooked a lot more times than the medium. If you like semi-burnt pizza 20% of the time, get the large. Was in York for a conference this week ans stopped in to Marcellos for lunch. I had the Italian Sub lunch special ($7) and it was ehhh. Bread wasn't that fresh and the meats and condiments were mediocre at best. It came with good fries though. The worst part of this place was the total chaos behind the counter. Disappointed at the fact it took 2hours for a salad and some slices to get delivered to my house. I only live 10min away from the busses. Seems like every time I call to place a order it's ether get messed up or it's pushing 2 hours for delivery. Customer service is definitely lacking as well over the phone I asked for my food as well as a refund because of the inconvenience and I got jack squat back from the owner. The pizza is just not good because the crust is to thick. It's like eating pizza bread. The crust is not fresh and very generic like pre made pre frozen pizza crust. The antipasto was very good and I recommend it. The wings were fair. Started a new job with the county and the lunch break is very short. Marcello's is right around the corner from my building. Walking up to the door the smell emanating from the establishment was great. Had their 2 slice lunch special with a drink. The price was something like $4.50, and the pizza was great. This is by far my favorite pizza in York and to me is the closest to New York slices that York has to offer. My sister is a pizza fanatic and every time she visits York, one of our dinners is Marcello's carryout. Only negative is the dine-in atmosphere so I typically stick to takeout. read more

GRINGO! I realize the term gringo is not always used in a derogatory way. However, in a restaurant setting it should not be used at all, no matter the connotation. Yet, that is the word that was used to identify me as a customer at Marcello's Pizza on S. George Street. My order was mistakenly given to another customer. The one employee corrected the other telling her that the order was for the "gringo." I realize some people will brush off this review and I understand that. If it wasn't for the PC world in which we live I wouldn't even have written this. But, it works both ways. An employee uses a derogatory term to refer to a customer who is over-weight, or ugly, or a minority, or is a certain Faith and it becomes national news. Well, it works both ways. Just be polite to your customers and they will return. Refer to me in a negative way and you lose a customer. read more
