Love the gnocchi. The food is outstanding, the service stellar, atmosphere warm, and the wine list deep. I need to come here more often!

I really like this place. Not cheap but a nice atmosphere, lovely apps and salads, and I really like the pasta. The gnocchi with chanterelles and a shaving of black truffles was great. Bonus points for a great beer list. The tables for two along the wall are very close together, so I heard all about the neighbor couple's "staff" issues, so worth it to reserve a two top down the spine of the room. I'm giving it five stars instead of four because I think their ingredients are top notch, service is very good, and the beer list more than meets my needs. read more

My fiance and I were invited out to dinner by her boss and this is where we came, I was born and raised in Marin but do not get down there that often anymore, so it was nice to see familiar places. This was my first time to Marche Aux Fleurs "Flower Market" and it certainly will not be my last. our waiter Peter was awesome, he was polite, joked a little with us and was attentive but not intrusive throughout our dinner. A great waiter knows his restaurant specials, and Peter was great. I had the Crab salad and it was well balanced, the dressing did not overpower the sweet Dungeness crab and it was a perfect portion, my main course was the Seared Ahi with saut'e greens, the Ahi was cooked perfectly and the entire plate was well balanced. The service was impeccable from our waiter Peter, to our server "a young lady with a big smile" and our bus person a young hispanic man, all were fantastic, the Restaurant atmosphere was simple country French i would say, very comfortable and off the street "not that Ross is a busy little town" but no noise from passing cars, every one at the table was very happy with their plates although my Fiance did say that her Chicken was a little on the salty side "sporatic" but she still loved it! Our dinner experience here was good, not great. The service was quite good, friendly, attentive, with informed and detailed recommendations. The food, though, was mixed -- and this was a surprise because their former sister restaurant, AVA, was one of my very favorites. I had the duck confit, nice and crispy, but hardly any meat on the bone. I had seen it on a previous menu offered as part of a cassoulet, and that might have been better. My dining partners had a fish special that was OK, and a steak that was excellent. Dessert was a mixed bag, too. The chocolate cake (described in other reviews as molten) was out of this world. I would go back just for this dessert. The recommended peach cobbler, though, was cold and lacked much taste. A nice evening, but I expected a little more. read more

Love this small local restaurant. The service is always good and it's so nice to see the chef/owners mingling with the guests. On a recent Thursday night visit, we enjoyed the hamburgers. We rarely eat meat so when we do, we look for great quality. We found it here. We frequent this restaurant more than any other in Marin. I would like to see a few more selections for red wine by the glass, otherwise, don't change. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat on special occasions in Marin. The food and service is superb. The menu is constantly changing with the seasons and is of the highest quality and some of the best mix of seasonal flavors I have ever had. I love the outdoor seating in the summer. Went for a before the theater 3 course dinner. Beet salad was the best I've had--could have been a meal. Halibut was good but a bit salty. Chocolate dessert was yummy. Good service, reasonably priced on the theater special for an upscale dinner. A bit on the noisy side for a special dinner--tables are tight packed, but going early helped. Great spot in beautiful, peaceful downtown Ross. We dined on a Thursday night in order to experience their 'by reservation only' burger. From the time we were greeted by the hostess, all the way through our meal, it was a delightful evening. The servers are friendly, fun, knowledgeable, and clearly enjoy their work. The menu is just the right size, with a good variety, and a very good price point. Our burger was perfection, as were the fries. We also enjoyed the date appetizer, and a nice salad. The restaurant itself has more outdoor seating than indoor, and on a late spring evening, it was a treat to dine al fresco. Bonus - they also sell their house cured and smoked bacon, as well as wines by the bottle to go at 35% off the wine list price. The bacon is divine and fun to take some home with us. All in all, a very positive experience, and we'll be back soon! read more

We had dinner here tonight and the food was good. We're foodies and are always looking for fun, yummy places in Marin. My issue was with how we were treated. Being a chubby, unattractive Asian woman was too much for our server who treated us we were FOBS. The bus person treated us with more dignity. I love this place. It's one of my favorite restaurants I've ever eaten at. My BF and I frequent this place for our romantic date nights. We've even gotten a few freebees in the past, because of our consistent patronage (and I'm sure to bring us back!). I only gave 4 stars because of the service. The food outshines the service, so I want to give my props to their chef. They seem to have lost their head waiter, Peter, at least he wasn't there the last 2 times I went (he was always there!), and the service quality dropped dramatically. I usually don't drink white wine, and asked the waitress for a suggestion. I explained that i didn't usually drink white wine and I didn't want something too sweet. Apparently my lack of knowledge concerning wine makes me an idiot. She retorted with quite an attitude "Well... NONE of them are SWEET." Well, excuse me. I clarified that I wanted something dry, not crisp. The wine she chose was ok, not dry like I asked, but it was still good so we went with it anyway. Then we were ignored for the rest of the evening, I had to flag down my waitress to order the lava cake that takes 20 min to prepare (my fave!) Even though they asked every table around us. I also had to ask several times for the coffee I ordered to go with my cake. There were only a few tables seated, the largest party had 5 patrons. Peter always kept out wine glasses full, was very attentive but not annoying, and was very polite and very knowledgable about wines. He NEVER suggested anything that was less than splendid. He was always friendly and super cool. I hope he's still there and I just happened to be there on his days off. I had to break up a pow wow at the bar to get our check. I'm sure they assumed that two 20-something's weren't worth too much effort in ultra elite downtown Ross. We graciously left a 50% tip for our meal of 2 apps, 2 salads, 2 mains, 2 desserts, a bottle of wine and coffee- a pretty penny for a dinner for 2. I love this restaurant. We're going again this Saturday night and I can't wait. The restaurant is small but warm and inviting, and everything I have ever had here has been wonderful. Marche aux Fleurs is one of our family's favorite restaurants. Most importantly, the food is excellent; locally grown, fresh, great flavor tension. The ambience is very warm and casual but people dress up a little which is nice. They are kid friendly (although it's not billed as a family restaurant), and most of the kids seem to behave (including ours). Service is very friendly and courteous, but in no way annoying the way some restaurants can be. The couple who run it are super cool - and we see them buying at the San Rafael farmer's market on Sundays, so we know they're legitimately buying local, quality ingredients. Nothing bad to say at all. Highly recommended. Oh, and they have NO TV which is wonderful - I hate when ESPN is playing in the background of a nice restaurant. read more

This has been my fourth visit and the first 2 were awesome and the last to not so much. After the last time I decided to give it another try. Made open table reservations for 3 (women) - when we arrived we were given an awkward table at the end of the banquet with a wall coming out into the table and a side table behind the person on the end was very uncomfortable. Mind you seated next to us at a table for 4 was a lone woman talking continuously on her cell phone - go figure. Also the table was wobbly and the owner I think put paper under the leg to stop it. There was other seating available. Our waiter was ok - but not very attentive - 2 of the women ordered wine and I asked for ice tea. My ice tea was never refilled. We were asked if we wanted the signature lava cake that needed to be ordered now and said yes. I have to say our food was excellent, though when done the waiter asked again if we would like the lava cake and reminded him we already ordered it - then he went off - never asked if we wanted coffee or anything and so when the cake came I tried to order coffee but he was gone before I could - sorry but I won't be going again, I had told the 2 women I was with before how wonderful this place was so it was a disappointment. read more

My family and I think this is the best restaurant in Marin. Friendly owners, really fresh food. Fine dining without the stuffiness (from the staff at least...the clientele is a different story ;). The quality of this restaurant has deteriorated since its inception many years ago. We've dined there a couple times each year, trying not to notice the decline and hoping for improvement. A recent dinner was so poor that we will probably never go back: Branzino totally swamped by an excessively piquant sauce; orecchietti as tough as hard rubber; overworked waitress slow to attend to us; incredible noise level that made it necessary to almost shout to each other at times. My husband and i went to Marche Aux Fleurs twice in the past couple of months (we live in Mill Valley). I enjoy the atmosphere and he enjoys the food. I am a little conflicted about the food. The entrees are quite tasty, but everything is really heavy. Even the grilled chicken comes on bed of mash potatoes that are more butter than potatos. Now, for a guy the food is perfect. The last time we went, my husband had a pork belly appetizer that to me looked like deep fried pig fat. But he thought it was delcious and there was not a crumb left on his plate. I had a beet salad that was very generous on beets (big plus for me) but quite heave on the dressing. For entrees I had grilled chicken - quite good even if a bit uninspired. And he had halibut, which he pronounced delcious. If you live in Marin i would definitely suggest giving this place a try. But not really worth a drive for the city. read more

My husband and I are going to try this restaurant again, after a very upsetting/weird/off-putting experience we had there a few years ago, the first time we ever went there. As I recall, the ambience, food, etc. were lovely, that is until we had been there about 20 minutes. Then, two male persons, both of whom obviously worked there, started a running, screaming, shouting, match at each other, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RESTAURANT, that lasted for at least 20 minutes, which is how long it took us to get out of there! The management did nothing - I presumed at the time because one of them WAS the management, but I could be wrong. Either way, it was not acceptable, and I am hoping that those people no longer work or manage the place. How could anyone have so little concern for their customers at such a nice restaurant? Needless to say, our dinner was ruined, although we did manage to use humor to keep ourselves sane - ever since then we have referred to it as "that restaurant in Ross where the two crazy men work". Had a HORRENDOUS experience at March Aux Fleurs last Saturday. Had a reservation, phoned ahead to tell them we were celebrating our daughter's graduation from college. Very stuffy and dark on the inside, but lovely outdoor seating area, so when the proprietor asked if we cared to dine outside, of course we said we'd be delighted. A minute later he returned and said would we mind waiting a few minutes for our table, "of course not" we said looking forward to a lovely meal in the patio area. A minute later his wife appears and attempts to escort us to a table tucked in the deepest, darkest, hottest part of the restaurant. When I explained that we were actually waiting for a table outside, she said they were all already taken and her husband was "just the chef, and he doesn't understand what tables are available". It's obvious, WE WERE BUMPED IN FAVOR OF ROSS LOCALS who appeared at the restaurant minutes after we did. Well, the locals can have it! We went to Farmshop, Jeff Cerciello's (of French Laundry fame) new restaurant in Larkspur County Mart. Instead of getting snubbed like we did at Marche Aux Fluers, Farm Shop's service was superb, and the food was to die for. Zero stars for Marche Aux Fluers, 5 stars for Farmshop! read more

My husband and I recently had dinner at Marche Aux Fleur. We had seen "Check Please" and I was really looking forward to a great meal. I was very disappointed in most of the meal. We started with the dates, they were good. and then I had the beet salad. The salad was much larger than I had expected and there was way too much dressing; it was soggy. Our pasta dish we shared was good but I felt like we each got maybe 4 gnocchi, very small portions. My husband had the pork, it was OK and I had the halibut. It was also very bland .The side dishes were unremarkable. We shared the butterscotch pudding for dessert. The dish it came in was very large and it looked as if they had run out of smaller bowls. It was supposed to come with a lemon shortbread cookie, instead we got a large chocolate cookie that tasted as if it had come from a bakery. By that time, the restaurant was so busy that they barely had time to explain anything. There were only 2 people serving everyone and one of them was the hostess. All in all ,an expensive dinner with OK food, bad presentation and rushed service. read more
