I don't like this place anymore. The beer selection is still nice, and they have more seating. Unfortunately, the quality of service I feel has fallen quite a bit, as well as the condition of the restrooms. The music was also too loud for me, and not to my tasting. I really liked this place, but with where it's at, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

Great selection of beer. Really good beer. Good menu. Food was good. Prices are not "outrageous" but getting there, like seventeen dollars for a "good" taco chicken salad. Nice spacious interior. Cool that there is some "living room" style seating areas to, as well as outdoor. A little weird to have metal simaulated -wood tables; they look like nice thick-plank picnic tables, but are cold and hard feeling. Service was effecient and friendly. Parking is not bad.

Ok, this is my third review of Tam. Since I moved to San Rafael in May of 2023 this has become my go to always spot. Not sure about those 3.5 stars. The staff here is amazing! Bartenders, Paige, Ian, Matt, Gabby, Day, Thomas. The utmost customer service. The recent quality of live music, amazing! They recently tried a comedy night so different endeavors is a good thing for downtown San Rafael. They recently opened the upstairs with pool tables, arcade games and a VIP area available to rent for private events. I absolutely love this place! There is a new food menu coming too. Shhhhhh, Paige might kill me but it includes fish and chips and fish tacos. Stay tuned! Cannot say enough about how this staff their care of its customers. There's no need for me to go anywhere else.

A plethora of choices for the brew that suits you best can be found here. I pair my Mind Circus Hazy with their Mexican Street Dog ( Mission Dog ) with all the fixins'. The Service brings me back and the staff is welcoming. Their patio is a hit so sit back and people watch to your hearts content. You can bring your pooch to the patio and they'll treat them like family as well. There are plenty of places in Marin to grab a cold one but I'm willing to bet that you can't get the same service and selection as Tam Commons in San Rafael.

Had a fun outdoor happy hour gathering here a few Fridays ago. The food was good; tried their burgers, popcorn chicken and fries. The pretzel with cheese looked good but I didn't personally taste it. There are heaters outside but they don't work consistently so don't rely on there being heat. The outdoor area has some tables and is covered which was particularly helpful on the evening we went as there was a little drizzle. The indoor area is also open if you prefer/are comfortable. There is no service inside but if you order inside at the bar the staff will bring your order out to you outside. This was nice for separate tabs With a large group. Drinks are also good, they offer a full bar which I didn't expect. They do not list any specific cocktails on the menu but can make anything you like. Will definitely keep this place in mind for future outdoor gatherings!

So happy we found this awesome bar/restaurant. The staff was great and always attentive. The atmosphere was super cool and had a great local vibe. Had heard that they served special IPAs and good food, the food was even better and had some very original plates. You order at the counter and from there you can check out their extensive beer selections. All types of beers on tap and none disappointed. Can't wait to come back with more friends and share this hidden gem! How did I not come here sooner! Was informed from staff that they had new management and they liked the new changes. Keep up the great work Tam! If you find yourself in San Rafael, you gotta drop in for a few. Will not disappoint!

Half of Cubano sandwich and half of a fried chicken sandwich. Yum!

Pandemic Review: Since Marin is currently in Tier 3, food and drink are allowed to be consumed inside the building. We were there on a Tuesday (early) evening and there were tables available inside. The doors were open so there was some air flow through the space. We ate and drank outside. There are plenty of tables - small and large. Fortunately, it was a relatively mild evening for early November, since there are no heaters. After having a couple of beers from their extensive tap list (they also have a lot of bottled beers), we ordered some food. We shared the Cubano and the fried chicken sandwich with a side of onion rings. Everything was hot and perfectly cooked. I will be back.

You have to be flexible these days when two of your regular spots don't open try new. Tam had nice outside seating available and the service was great, fast and friendly. We had the no meat burger and the fried chicken sandwich. I'm not a fan of the sweet buns but that is just me and they tasted like they should sweet and fluffy, crispy on the butter side. The no meat was excellent and the fried chicken perfectly cooked. It's says fried chicken come with a side of coleslaw while it was literally only a forkful. Also had the kale Caesar's salad. The salad was good but nothing reminded me closely to a Caesar's salad. So the menu description should be a bit more precisely :) food is very good bar food and we would always come back for a break here! Five stars in the beginning as always and one star away for an unclear description on the menu and limited menus options. (Well it would only concern me for 0.5 points but that's not possible, Sorry).

I'm upset that we wasted over $50 on food this evening for dinner. We ordered popcorn chicken, onion rings, fries and a chicken taco salad to share. The popcorn chicken and taco salad are two of their specials. At $15 a piece, both were small portions and underwhelming. The fries and onion rings were good though. Service was friendly, but nothing to write home about when it comes to their food. It definitely needs work and unfortunately we won't be coming back.

    Cheers!

The pool tables upstairs have no lights over them. Bartender told me I could get quarters at the bank across the street. No thank you.

We had a reservation for Father's Day and waited about 10 minutes for a table to open, as it was the busiest I have seen. The table was nice, big enough for the five of us, and the ambiance is always great here as well. We were quickly greeted by our server, Eli, who provided chips and salsas to whet our appetites, and we soon narrowed our focus to the food and drink menus. We ultimately decided on some El Jefe Tacos, a shrimp and crab enchilada, a three-item combo with two chile rellenos and a cheese enchilada with green sauce, a carne asada taco, and the volcanic Molcajete (served in a warm stone bowl with grilled steak, chicken, and prawns. Covered with a red chile, roasted tomato sauce). For libations, we went with a mojito and a new drink - for us at least - the pineapple mezcal mule! The food came in a timely manner, and the molcajete was still bubbling! Hence, the volcano nickname! The mojito was very minty and refreshing, and the pineapple mezcal mule was an acquired taste for some of the group - I enjoyed the smoky earthiness of the mezcal, but it's not your run-of-the-mill tequila, so if you are new to mezcal, be aware of the difference. The food last time was a bit spicy, but this time it was not an issue. Still spicy, but not to the point of being overpowering. Even the salsas were not as extreme. Good for some of us! All the food was delicious, and the three-item combo was great to look at as well. As we say, "the eyes eat first," and indeed my eyes were little piggies that meal! Overall, the service was great, the food great, and the entertainment a perfect background for what would have been just a noisy bunch of chatter. Overall a great Father's Day lunch.

That said, I've been here twice and unfortunately had the same experience both times. The first visit, I ordered a regular chicken burrito, and it was pretty bland. I figured it might have just been an off day, so I gave them another try and ordered a super burrito the second time. Sadly, it was also bland--even with sour cream and guacamole, which I didn't really see or taste. Their burritos are long but not very thick, and flavor-wise they just didn't hit for me. I was hoping for something more seasoned and bold. I truly hope this is taken as constructive feedback, because I do want local spots like this to succeed. The service is good, and the people are kind--it's just the food that needs more flavor. Unfortunately, based on my experiences, I can't recommend it and probably won't be returning, but I wish them the best and hope they continue improving.
