We've been to this place twice and are now big fans. The food is delicious. I'm still dreaming about a chicken special I had a couple of months ago - it was the kind of thing I would never normally have ordered, but for some reason inspiration struck and OMG it was perfect. Nice ambiance, good service. My one bone to pick is with the desserts. Most are, or contain, ice cream - which, normally I would not complain about. I am a HUGE ice cream fan (and like pretty much all of it, usually), but I could not eat this stuff. Their ice cream tasted more like frozen butter than ice cream, was more grainy than creamy, and strangely did not melt. Seemed strangely inconsistent when everything else was so good. read more

Here for VD dinner. I ordered the scallops and got ia normal sized scallop sliced into three very, very thin pieces. OMG!!! Too salty since the pieces were sooooo thin. The rice with almond was the highlight of the meal. Are scallops do pricey that one scallop needs to be made into three thin slices???? Used to think highly of this restaurant but no longer. All they care about us the bottom line. Won't be back. read more

Most disappointing experience dining anywhere in Marin. Ordered duck confit (their pride specialty) and was delivered deep fried leg of duck (or perhaps oven roasted), I could not tell and visually unattractive. After first bite, I waited to finally get the server woman back to our table to ask "what kind of sauce would the Chef recommend to go with this duck". After 15 minutes while I am on hold, she comes back telling me "The Chef dose not have any sauce to recommend". I pushed my plate out signaling I was not eating it. The young woman server obviously was never trained enough to suggest if she could get me anything else on the menu instead, that I might like. Obviously no experienced Chef with pride would serve a dish like that, as they have only few items on their menu you would think every one would be excellent. I thought a "fast cook in a coffee shop would do better". The owner was around but not a resturanteur with pride to ensure his customers have a great culinary experience leaving his resturant. The outdoor furniture was old cheap wrought Iron of poor quality and very uncomfortable. All together a poor experience and we would never go back. Stay away if you want a enjoyable dining experience. read more

Would not order anything that is not on the menu. Pricing that is not on the menu will not be explained and the price is outrageous. Thought we were getting great service until the bill came and found that the server miss represented to us the specials. Seems if you are not a regular you will be overcharged. Very disappointed in the service. Management was not helpful with customer. Too bad customer service is not what it use to be. No steak is worth $64.00..... It is a shame to treat customers with little respect. Or should I say outsiders. read more

This is a place you really want to like. Nestled amongst the extraordinary home of Ross, the restaurant fits right in. The decor is very tasteful aside from the surprisingly poor choice of the electric fireplace (?) on the wall. The staff were excellent. And yet the food simply didn't measure up. Our salad and soup were good but pretty forgettable and my orchiette was pretty underwhelming. Wines by the glass were well selected and the dessert menu was well done. Perhaps an off night for the kitchen but the cuisine clearly lagged behind the restaurant's better elements. read more

A special little gem of a location that's always cozy and DELICIOUS! We're so happy to have them in this little town of Ross. It's a really special spot that's great for date nights or dinners with friends. They're known for their avocado crostini, truffle gnocchi and chicken. I would give them 10 stars if I could!! Romantic setting. Outdoor seating. Quaint. Cute. Great date night spot. We had the bacon-wrapped dates, and those are a MUST. We also had the warm olives - yum. I had an octopus dish that was a dish I don't normally order but WOW it was delicious! Perfectly tender, not chewy at all. Not fishy either. In a tomato based sauce with shallots and other vegetables. Truffle gnocchi was a winner - they were like soft little pillows of goodness in your mouth. Get those. Overall, wonderful experience! Super cute little restaurant with an even super cute and romantic patio outside for a warm evening. My husband and I both enjoyed everything we ate. I especially enjoyed the gnocchi and plan on having that again the next time we return. I wasn't too wowed by the flourless chocolate dessert that takes 20 mins to make though. Best restaurant in Marin! We love Marche - the food is always outstanding, service is spectacular and the wine list is beautifully curated. We were just in with a group of 7 for a company dinner and everyone raved about every dish that hit the table. The bacon wrapped dates are my favorite thing in the world! And we love to get small portions of the pasta for the table to share between the salad and main course. Save room for the chocolate cake, which is outrageously good! read more

On a some basis this restaurant may warrant four stars, or perhaps the five stars most folks have generously rated it - but on a relative basis it is not on par with Picco's and the like in Marin. Not by a long shot. It is a cozy place tucked away in a courtyard in Ross, and their dishes are enjoyable enough - but not memorable. So, A-OK for a casual meal with friends in the neighborhood but not a place to go for a special meal. The service is friendly, but not well coordinated. Everyone pitches in to cover all the tables, but as a result some things fall through the cracks and you have to flag them down to get help at times. read more

I'd heard great things about this place from one of my colleagues so decided to try it. I must admit I was overall very disappointed. Not only was the service slow but our server wasn't too familiar with the menu. All in all food was OK. The outdoor patio was very nice but the local clientele who clearly were regulars looked like Hollywood wannabes. Certainly one of the top ten restaurants in Marin - and priced like it too. We miss their sister restaurant, which they closed, AVA in San Anselmo. Hosted 8 peeps for my birthday, had very attentive staff and lots of options presented to us- on and off the menu. The medjool dates are special, and the seafood is always top notch. The wine selections are unique, so we brought a couple bottles from our cellar, which they accommodated without issues. The desserts a terrific too, though we were quite full when they came. That's a good thing! We love the atmosphere here - one of the best spots in Marin. We'd happily come here again. read more

Nice quiet outdoor setting. Pleasant service. Food good, but not outstanding, and it's expensive. We asked for "abundant bread" and got one piece each. This is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in the bay area. I was with two foodie friends, who introduced me to the place. They informed me the food is a California-French cuisine. They ordered the appetizers and made recommendations for me so it was not surprising that every dish I had was amazing. The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. The service was friendly and excellent. I don't think you can't go wrong with any of the appetizers. We ordered 4 of them, and they were all tasty. For the first course, I'd recommend the Buffalo mozzarella stuffed squash blossom tempura and the Gnocchi pasta. I can't really remember the main course (it was weeks ago). For dessert, I had their specialty chocolate cake. You have to order that cake at the beginning of the meal to have it ready by dessert time. If this place was closer to SF, I would probably eat here more often. The food is excellent. While high, the price is surprisingly low for a meal of this caliber. read more

Incredible! I have not had a meal this good in Marin in a long time. The space is great- quite and relaxing (beautiful patio). The service was wonderful- friendly and informative. Would never recommend this restaurant to any family which hopes to have peaceful and respectful service. Just had to cancel a Sunday night reservation and called Saturday night. The guy who answered was so rude and ended up just hanging up on me after he canceled my rez. No thanks, no sorry, no good bye. Simple hang up, simply rude. I called back to call him out and someone else answered. "Oh, we are so busy here, we are ten deep." Fake laugh. Click. Anniversary nights - special occasions without the kids... we love Marche Aux Fleurs. Food is divine and service is beyond excellent. We often bring our own bottle of wine and the corkage fee is within reason. My wife knows that it is a romantic evening when we have reservations here. I read the good and the not so good reviews. What mattered to me when i celebrated my 70th b'day there recently was not the food so much as the great friends I was able to share a great meal and friendly service with. we chose to sit inside on a fine summer day and were happy with that decision due to the quiet as apposed to the intense noise of those who chose to sit outside. I'm sure they were just having fun but not as much shared love that I was sharing with my friends; which made everything during the free flowing two and half ours the best birthday celebration of all time. I keep a running list of truly special restaurants to refer to others. Marche is at the top of my list. The frequently changing menu is primarily local and seasonal, and the wine list has many fantastic bottles from small, family owned wineries from here and France. I've eaten there many times and every dish has been memorable. The gnocchi so good that I'm surprised that it is legal. DO order the chocolate cake. All that and the owners are friendly, enthusiastic, sincere and want you to enjoy your experience at their restaurant. read more

Lovely ambiance, wonderful fresh food from the farmers market....and....they bake their own bread! Squash tempura appetizers were great as was my steak. Husbands burger was ok. Yumm. Love the ambiance. How quaint right in downtown Ross all one block of it. Lots of handsome blondes in pearls, and smartly dressed gents. Who knew almonds could become such a delicious appetizer? I guess they have to be salted modesto almonds, but boy were they tasty. Everything we ate was delicious - the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, and pre-sliced which I always like if done tastefully. My salad - Arugula, endive, Asian pears, Pt. Reyes Blue, - perfect savory marries sweet. Mushroom Ravioli-cream based sauce but somehow light. The wine list was great, although I would like at least one or two familiar brands as not all mainstream wines are bad! The only negative thing I could say was that our server forgot to put one of the glasses of wine on the bill. The reaction to this should either be, my bad - its on me. In which case we would tip extra well. Or, bring the bill back BEFORE ringing it up and show us the mistake. Instead she brought us a check for one amount, took our credit card and rang it up for a higher amount. Luckily we noticed, but the response was "Oh, yea - I forgot to add one of the glasses of wine." So, that is the only reason for 4 starts verses 5. read more

Marche aux Fleurs does serve good food, and the setting is very pleasant, especially the courtyard in summer weather. We ate there a number of times in past years and liked the restaurant. Liked it enough to return for a dinner on our anniversary. My wife informed the restaurant in advance that we coming for a special occasion meal. Well, you know, restaurants do vary in terms of what is done for repeat customers for a meal that marks a birthday, anniversary, etc. Some provide an extra dessert, or appetizer; others put some tasteful decoration on your table, etc. Some gesture that acknowledges that you come there for a special circumstance. We enter the restaurant with routine greetings, and shown to a table. After the meal, as we are leaving, the hostess says goodbye, and (by the way), "'Happy Anniversary!" My wife, in particular, was dumbfounded. Why did we bother to go there for our anniversary, she wondered. It was as if they could not have cared less. We have not returned since. Trivializing a woman's marriage anniversary is something you should not do. read more

We're celebrating our 37th anniversary at this place and loving it. The bread is excellent wheat French bread, crunchy on the outside and chewy on the in. Our little gems salad topped with bacon was to die for....the dressing was perfect. We purposely came for the Thursday night hamburger and ordered the octopus as our second entre. There were so many exciting ingredients in the octopus dish we felt like we were on a treasure hunt discovering special treats. Each bite was different and exciting. The hamburger and fries were sooooooo delicious we will definitely be back on a Thursday for that. The service was excellent. Our waiter, Peter, was informative, warm and congenial. Yeah I 'm a local and this is my favorite restaurant. Why? Because it is so easy to spend time there. The food is in the category that i describe as as good as you could ever want it to be without being "haute cuisine". you want better? go to French Laundry or Masas etc. It is generally simple honest cooking that is ingredient driven True, it is California cuisine but I would say its at least 50% classic french technique as well. wine list and wines by the glass shine here and Holly is a master, even by Wine Spectator standards. Best part is the setting, its just so relaxing. It is a solid value but not cheap. I dont know about the stuffy Marinite reviews, the place is actually pretty laid back What I can tell you is that the crowd is not much in the way of 20 somethings here. We happened upon Marche Aux Fleurs in search of a date spot with good ambiance. When we walked into Marche they were friendly, welcoming and found a table with little wait. The food was excellent, server was warm and made good recommendations. Setting is lovely , good lighting, feels French, handsome yet casual enough to walk in off the street and feel comfortable.
