The end of an era- This place has changed. I have been coming here for 10 years and it was consistently great- never left feeling the slightest bit unhappy. I visited a few weekend ago for lunch on a Saturday with two girlfriends. We have come here together many times. Our cocktails were fine, nothing special but that's ok. The food however was not great or even good. I order the burger (usually a classic, consistent great choice), and one friend smoked salmon hash and the other steak and eggs. I requested medium well- after recent experiences of ordering medium and getting very rare meat- and my burger was still rare. The bun was hard/stale on top and soaked with meat juice and soggy on the bottom. There was barely any cheese and the fries were underdone as well. I had planned to take half home but there was no way this was going to be edible later. The salmon hash was "fine" said my friend, but the baguette "toast" was hard and inedible. Our friend with the steak and eggs said the tiny steak puck tasted reheated and old, and once again the baguette was inedible. We all felt it just wasn't worth it. Our server only returned at the end of our meal to give us the check, never asking how the food was. We paid and left without saying anything. Probably won't return. So sad. read more

I'm not sure of the reason for the poor reviews, I thought this place was excellent. I'm a big fan of Provisions, but New Year's Eve was my first time actually dining at the the restaurant. My husband and I ordered a handful of starters and boards: olives, pickled plate, fish board, Brussels sprout salad and oysters. All were excellent, especially the fish board. Everything was timed out perfectly-we never had too many items on the table and we could nibble slowly. We ordered the lamb trio and the lobster special. The lobster was one of the best dishes I had all year. The lamb was great for meat lovers, very minimalist and lamb was the highlight. Cocktails were great as well, and the server helped us pick out wines to match our food. Overall, a great experience. Worth the price, especially for a nice celebratory dinner. Horrible service. Waited at a bar table for 30 minutes with only one drink put in. We were a table of three on a Monday evening. I'm writing this review as I'm Ubering to another restaurant with actual class. I love eating out but if the service is bad I'll take the one drink, pay the bill, and leave. The server got two tables orders before even coming back to get the rest of our drinks. Whoever was serving in the bar this evening was not professional, attentive, or worth my time. *If you're between 20-30 you will not get the service worth the price of coming here, so don't come here for drinks or date night! This is "supposedly" the best restaurant in town. That is a sad fucking commentary on the state of Eugene's culinary community. I feel like the menu hasn't changed in 20 years so basically these haute cuisine wizards have let the gastro world pass them by. Truly cutting edge. I came to the soft opening of Marche brunch 25 years ago. I was young and poor and could not believe my good fortune. 25 years later it is still the best spot in town. Hit the bar for happy hour or later and they will treat you right. The dining room is elegant and beautiful. I love a Manhattan and some hazelnuts with a little bit of cribbage followed up with some great fish or mussels or steak frite. Everything is delicious here! read more

Although food is only one of three dimensions to be evaluated, it is the most important IMO. Our choices for Father's Day brunch were smoked trout hash, eggs Benedict, bay shrimp salad and beignets. The beignets were best: hot, pillowy and just sweet enough. They measure up to those at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. The shrimp salad was pretty good: balanced and flavorful, except for the shrimp themselves, which were bland, as bay shrimp tend to be. Eggs Benedict (with ham) was fine, but nothing special. Anyone capable of poaching an egg could fashion a competitive version at home. The same is true of the smoked trout hash, which was not hot enough and revisited the kitchen for a booster shot. Get a package of smoked trout at Trader Joe's and mix it up with sautéed cubed potatoes and a smattering of herbs and you'll be just as happy for a third the cost. In short, this high-priced brunch was, like so many Eugene restaurant meals, "decent." Except for the beignets we would not order any of the dishes again. The service could be described as "friendly," if not exceptional. A side of (nondescript) home fries didn't appear till late in the game after our server was reminded of the oversight. I never got an answer to my question about which coffee roaster Marche used. BTW, the coffee was really good. Skip the fresh squeezed OJ unless you have reason to believe that the oranges are sweeter than they were this morning. Ambiance-wise, Marche is great. Despite a full house, it was easy to converse and seating is quite comfortable. I can't see myself as the driving force behind a return visit, but I wouldn't be averse to another appearance if a friend wanted to go there. read more

So we had one night in Eugene. A friend recommended this restaurant and I have to say I loved it! Drinks, dinner and service were perfect. We shared a ribeye and had the mussels for an appetizer. Parking is super convenient, with space available int he adjacent lot, on the street or any one of the free parking lots around 5th Street. The service is good and the staff if very friendly, consistent to ask if we have everything we need, if were enjoying ourselves, and refilling our water. The food is delicious, as is their coffee. I would recommend having a latte and the french toast. The french toast is very filling and very flavorful. The restaurant is good size so you don't feel all squished together like sardines and there is a lot of natural light, which I love. If the weather permits it and you are brave enough to endure the cold, there is outdoor seating. read more

Marche is my favorite fancy brunch spot in Eugene! They have amazing breakfast. Don't forget to get an order of beignets. I enjoy their dinner as well, but their breakfast menu definitely outdoes dinner in my opinion. Make sure to make a reservation on the weekends as it gets really busy! Marche also has a great bar to stop in and get a drink if you are shopping at the 5th street market. If you're staying at the hotel you can take your drinks back up to your room too! read more

Food was very good but we overheard the wait staff complaining that we were the only ones there and loudly talked amongst themselves about the "brunch that wasn't". 2nd visit: our salads were very good, minestrone soup was barely warm, our 12"/$12 margarita pizza was not hot, the cheese did not melt. We've been coming to Marche for many years. For a long while it was our default when we wanted to have a "nice" dinner. The food is consistently high quality, though sometimes a bit bland. The service has apparently gone downhill in recent years - the past few times we've come to Marché we've experienced extremely slow service and unknowledgeable waiters. For example, we came for brunch the other day and asked for a cafe americano to go with our beignets. No problem said the waiter, and out came the beignets quickly. We then had to wait a solid 15 minutes for the coffee, while the beignets got cold. During this time he just ignored us, didn't bring napkins for the beignets, not did he take an order. This was hardly a crisis (and yes, we survived cold beignets without injury), but it was just the latest in a string of such experiences at Marché. The menu is a bit spendy, and it doesn't really seem worth it when the service is so often spotty. read more

Dinner at Marche with g/f and two friends on 3/4/17. 5PM reservation (necessary!), seated immediately. Glad we called ahead. Shared the roasted cauliflower entree (so, so), all had drinks. Going around the table, g/f had the pork chop (huge but a tad fatty), one friend had the duck (said it was satisfying), another had the tenderloin (cut it with a butter knife. I had the bouillabaisse - and of all of the meals, mine was the least satisfying. Lots of seafood, but very bland. Severely lacking flavor. Desert was pineapple upside down cake for me - delicious with a rum ice cream whose cream was amazing. One friend had the gateau, g/f had ice cream. Bill came out to $230 including several drinks. Cute, French bistro-y kind of place. A tad pretentious imho but maybe that was because we were a group of 7 and we didn't actually know everyone at the table (friends of friends, you know how that goes). I can't remember what everyone ordered but I do know that what I had was very good. I started with the mesclun greens salad with a cranberry-sage vinaigrette ($8 plus $1.50 to add about a tablespoon of blue cheese). For my entrée, I had one of the specials, a nice portion of grilled salmon ($34) served with potato & celery root purée & sherry vinegar-glazed carrots. Quite tasty and a perfect portion size. The wine list is heavily tipped towards French wines (and expensive) but we managed to find a nice Oregon Pinot that was affordable and very good. Reservations are strongly recommended by wait staff, fortunately we had them. Another Yelper mentioned having a "sighing" waiter...I think we had the same guy. Not sure if the sighing was because of snobbery, boredom, or being asked the same questions over and over. Whatever, the service was great so I overlooked it. Intimate setting, pretty antiques and artwork, like being in a French garden. I'd try Marche again maybe for lunch if I were in the Eugene area again. We had a tall nice breakfast here on Sunday. We ate outside, in the shade. This is not brunch where you eat for two. Here you eat for yourself and are not over fed. In short, I loved the portions. I had a very nice Gruyere and ham omelet. It is as not over done. Just the right ingredients. Rebecca had the crepe; yum is all she would say as she smiled while enjoying it. We have come here a fair few times & it's been good to great. We came here tonight for a birthday celebration. Just two of us. Reservation was on time & service was decent. That said, the very expensive filet was cooked nicely but the vegetables were fairly crunchy & not in a good way. The steak was seriously peppery & I like pepper but it was a bit much even for me. The bit of potato was not great either. I've had this meal before & was impressed but not tonight. The wine selection was limited to say the least, but then I'm not a fan of Pinot & there are only a couple red wines available. I had a shrimp salad to start which was delicious but it was also very pricey. I mean, $16 for a salad?!?! I may try it again but for the price, it was nothing special. Overall....meh. read more

How one could not give this place 5 stars just baffles me (but maybe I'm just a big softie)! I LOVE places like this! Really, what don't they have?! Marche Provisions boasts a salad bar (arguably the best in Eugene despite its small size), pizza oven, coffee shop, gelato, wine bar, bakery, and crazy good selection of cookbooks, gifts, candies, chocolates, and tchotchkes that you never knew you needed but suddenly can't live without. The place is adorable inside - black and white tile floors, bright colored walls, high and low tables. Employees are both friendly and helpful. I recommend the salad bar, where you load up a plate or to-go container and pay by weight. They offer a broad range of lettuces (including kale!) along with different proteins (meat, hardboiled eggs), veggies (such as curried cauliflower), carbs (barley pilaf), and legumes (oh the lemon chickpeas!). It is inspired! While there, I also tried one of the daily pizza offerings. They had a not-so-standard Margherita, one with lamb, and the so-called "Fennelove" pizza, which had marinated mushrooms and fennel (duh) - really good! If I lived in Eugene, this would be my go-to place for unique hostess gifts and make-your-own salads! Definitely one of the must-visit places in Eugene! read more

This is one of the very best places to eat in the Eugene area. All the food is great, without exception. It's pricey for Eugene, but I'd expect to pay considerably more for this quality of food & service in San Francisco (where I live). As a bonus, it's open late, which is a nice touch for Eugene. If you're looking for something unusual without alcohol, try the homemade bitters sodas. I had mine with half sweetness at our server's recommendation, which was just perfect for me: sweet enough to be a treat without it being syrupy. read more

I have to say that this is probably my favorite place to get brunch in Eugene when I'm looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. I've been here a few times now and every time I have been impressed with their dishes, drinks and pastries. My boyfriend is originally from France and has given me his approval of their croissants and pan au chocolat. I usually get the omelette with goat cheese and mushrooms but everything I've tried here has been scrumptious. The eggs are always cooked to perfection and since I'm an egg lover/snob I know this means they really take their time to cook your food. My boyfriend ordered the pork belly eggs Benedict the last time we were there and oh my...it melted in my mouth! I love the lattes that they serve in giant bowls with beautiful latte art on top. This place charges a few dollars more than your average breakfast place but in return you get wonderful service, memorable food and refreshing drinks. Just ate here tonight with my family (56,55 and kids 24 and 21) and it was amazing!!! All of the food was SOOO delicious! I had the trout, wife had salmon special, daughter had pesto pizza, and son had soufflé and we were all BLOWN AWAY by the tastes!! Some friends took us here and spoke of a legendary blue cheese burger. Massive in size, juicy, cheese, soft bun. Sounded great. Well they changed there menu. The burger now if half the size, still juicy, has some pickles on it. I could tell our friends were disappointed. So we cut the meal short and went to another place for drinks. Which was unfortunate cause the atmosphere was really killer here. Easily the best part of the experience. The other reason for the low star ratting was the service. Really just sloppy and awkward. I hate feeling as if I have interrupted someone's busy day by sitting at your table. Then the long awkward looks of "did you just ask me for that, here at this classy restaurante'" yeah I did, I like ranch on french fries instead ketchup. It's fries and a burger don't hold your nose up at me. With the amount of options in Eugene I don't know when or if I'll have another chance to try here again.
