We tried a few different subs: Cacoila with cheese Chicken salad with banana peppers Chicken Parmesan Eggplant Parmesan We also tried their potato salad which was excellent and two desserts: a chocolate brownie and a pastel de nata (Portuguese egg custard tart). The prices were very reasonable and everything was absolutely delicious!! The staff were very nice but it took a very long time to get our order. This place has been around FOREVER! Great go to place for good old fashioned sandwiches made the traditional way. No fancy extras. The portions on the sandwiches are generous to say the least. I have been here 3 times: First, I ordered the meatball and it was ok. Somewhat bland and told them to toast roll which didn't appear to be or feel texture wise. Second time I tried the chicken cutlet and again wasn't impressed. Last, and worst, the eggplant parmesan. The eggplant were mushy, undercooked, and under breaded. They put very little sauce and cheese and the bread was chalky. I gave this place 3 chances and that is it. I see people line up for this place so there must be a tradition here or something else on the menu they do a good job with but I'm not wasting another dollar to see what it is. read more

I write this with a heavy heart because I loved this place so much. I've eaten Marcicci's 1000 times. Its been my favorite sandwich shop since the late 70's when they were still on Broadway in Newport RI and West Main Rd in Middletown RI as well. It been been a year or so since I bought a sandwich from there because I live in Newport now and they are only in Fall River. I missed it so I drove out there to get a large sandwich for dinner and lunch the next day. An hour and 20 minutes of driving both ways. I ended up getting a large chicken salad with American cheese and it was absolutely awful. The only thing I could taste was celery seed and there was almost no chicken salad in it. If I had to take a guess I would say roughly 6 ounces on the entire sandwich. And this is a sandwich that used to have like almost a pound of chicken salad on it. It's a 24 inch grinder. In the bowl is half of the sandwiches worth of chicken and keep in mind there's some American cheese in there as well taking up some space. The spoon you see is a teaspoon. Ridiculous. What's worse is that it wasn't even chicken breast. It was deli style loaf Chicken that was put into a food processor and ground up. If you zoom in on the chicken in the bowl you can see the little bits of cubed, pressed chicken. For 20 bucks it's an absolute rip off. I wouldn't drive there for one if they were giving it away. I can't believe Marcicci's went there after all of these years being the sandwich king. I know times are tough but you never mess with the formula. You raise the price if you have to but you don't EVER mess with the product. Its the reason why people have been going there for decades. Marccuci's did both raise the price and wrecked the product. The only reason why I gave 2 stars instead of one is because of my history there. Soo disappointing. read more

I ordered a medium Italian sub, with eveything, including hot peppers) , and my husband ordered a medium pastrami with American cheese and hot peppers. Food is good but their customer service is the WORST. Called at 5:45 and someone picked up. Did not even say hello, just put the phone down and no one came back on for 14 minutes. Excellent food and service; just be careful when paying because they will not repay you if a mistake is made. I was overcharged by over $8, asked about the price seeming too high and was told the extra charge was for lettuce, tomato and taxes. Since it was very busy, I was embarrassed to push the issue at the time of purchase. It wasn't until later that I took the time to review the purchase carefully and confirmed that I had indeed been overcharged. After three days of calling and confirming that my specific encounter was recollected by staff, I was finally told they wouldn't pay me back in cash or food because the receipts of the day did not demonstrate a discrepancy. Apparently, the issue was that I was charged for one large and one medium grinder, instead of the 2 medium grinders that I had actually received. But being correct and specifically remembered by staff didn't make a difference. I don't blame staff, but I am disappointed in this badly impersonal company policy! read more

For many years I've gone back and forth between Marcucci's and Marzilli's bakeries. Recently I bought Italian sandwiches from both bakeries and with a group of friends did a blind taste test. Both sandwiches were identical. After everyone trying both we all agreed Marcucci's was better for two reasons. One a better amount of cheese cold cuts and peppers in the sandwich. Second the quality of the flavor of the bread was far superior. As a retired chef and culinary instructor I felt quite qualified to oversee this. Best subs I've ever had (and I've traveled a LOT and tried subs all over the country). The bread is the absolute best and the cold cuts are always deliciously fresh. Out of the two major sandwich shops in the city Marcucci's wins this for me every time. They're quality of meats is better and the fresh bread is perfect for it. They have a huge selection to choose from and they're pizza and sides are great too! It's always got a nice family owned atmosphere when you go in and the owner is a a sweetheart to all. A visit to Marcucci's is best preceded by a phone order. So do it right and you'll likely be on your way inside a five minute window. Failure to heed my advice will extend your stay. If the parking in front is already taken there's a small lot adjacent to the building. The shop itself is small and on the dingier end of the cleanliness spectrum. Bottom rusted spin-style stools deceptively dare diners to get off their feet and enjoy their purchases on a narrow countertop incapable of retaining Marcucci's regular offerings. Because the subs? Well, they're ginormous. Order a large to go and be handed two monstrosities wrapped in tinfoil just begging to be lifted aside. On your first visit you'll walk out feeling like you've just cheated the place or thinking that the prepper is new. Either way, you end up on top because it's no joke. They somehow manage to stay in business while featuring what seems to be a two for one large sub special ad infinitum. Their contents will be of something nudging slightly above average taste and quality. Any order placed involving cheese will necessitate a surgical operation to extract the foil encasing the sub. It will integrate itself into the mass of contents with a thoroughness deserving of patience, precision and vulgarity. So overall, if I were homeless, I'd save my nickels and make Marcucci's a regular stop on my bottle collection route. read more

I Find it hard to Believe this place has Survived as long as they have! My last visit I ordered a Lg, Italian grinder for pick-up, was ready when I arrived, and drove back home to Somerset. When I was ready to enjoy my sandwich, Couldn't believe how Hard my Bread was! It was beyond Stale, and this is a place that makes their own Bread! I eas not Happy, so I decided to call them,and asked to Speak to the Mgr. who happened to be there. When I told him my problem, he seemed to doubt that this was possible, I stated that the person that made my sandwich had to know this was not sellable, and belongs in the trash can, he kept doubting me, and I said; this is how you Lose business, he amazed me by saying, I DON'T CARE ! I responded that, it's Obvious you don't Care, and I will never buy from your place Again, I Don't need your Business, he said, Wow! I proceeded to Hangup the phone, through the Rock hard grinder in the trash, and phoned an order from a local Shop in my area. Haven't been back since, that was about 5 of 6 yrs. Great little sandwich spot. You get a ton for you money. 24 inches for $10. Approximately. I'd recommend starting with an Italian coldcut sub. It was delicious and is pretty much my "go to" on a first try of a deli. The outside was a little sketchy, so if you're not used to inner city life it could be intimidating. I'm pretty much just repeating things that are on other reviews here but I can't resist. The small, square, almost cheeseless slices of pizza are a bit of heaven on earth. You could feed a small army for like $15 with this pizza. And as the others said here the grinders are perfect for road trips, beach trips, trips to the moon. You could again feed 10 people for like $10. Can't beat it. And yes, Marzilli's right down the street is pretty much the same haven for deals. But watch out, these places close early. read more

Food's good, decent prices and MOST of the people there have great customer service, but the guy who's there sometimes is kind of a jerk. He's so miserable and rude. I get being burnt out and having bad days, but he's always miserable. If you don't like what you're doing, time to move on. Not much to look at from the outside in a neighborhood that's seen better days, but isn't that where all of the gems are? Marcucci's has the best grinder rolls I've found in New England and the roll makes a grinder. The prices can't be beat and they have a great selection of grinders and Portuguese favorites like Chourico Rolls. Meh. It's okay. It's definitely not the best place for a roast beef sub. Although their bread is very good, they pack their sandwiches with too much meat. I'm always taking some off. Also, the works aka lettuce, tomatoe and onion aren't included in the price, which I find to be ridiculous. They also don't layer the sandwich very well. The way the bread is cut and how they pack the food in the bread is inconvinent. I also tried their cheeseburger sub. A big no thanks!! The meat was gross and didn't taste anything like real beef. It geeked me out. I'll never get it again. A lot of people rave about this place. If you like simple, meaty sandwiches this is probably the place for you. Went in to order a turkey and cheese sandwich with lettuce, tomato, mayo. Pretty easy common sandwich right? When I opened my sub in the car I noticed there wasn't lettuce or tomato. So I sent my boyfriend back in to get it remade and he came out with lettuce an tomato IN A CUP, mayo IN A CUP, no knife to spread the mayo and the same sandwich. I ended up having to go in myself and get it remade. If I wanted to build my own sandwich I would have done that at home, and the fact they couldn't put the lettuce and tomato on for me shows the laziness of your employees. read more
