My son and his girlfriend made a reservation for dinner for 8pm this evening and they got there a little before 8. The hostess told them they didn't have a record of him calling and that he must have called the other location. However he checked the number and did call the correct restaurant. They made them wait for 40 minutes for a table. His girlfriend wanted to get something off the children's menu as she didn't care for Mexican food and the waiter said she had to be 12 to order from it. No surcharge option was offered which is usually customary. Considering they made them wait for 40 minutes this is horrible customer service to refuse to serve a meal. She ended up eating nothing but chips. My son's food was very good so that's why the 2 stars however the customer service was lacking considerably. It's one thing to make an error with the reservations but to not accommodate a meal is ridiculous especially in lieu of the error they made. No one in my family will return to this location. We have been to Margarita's about a dozen times, but this is the first chance we have had to do a review. Margarita's is a local LI Mexican chain; we have only been to the Willy Park location, so we can only speak to that. To summarize our experiences, I would say that it offers good but inconsistent food, friendly and efficient service, and excellent drinks. Let me start with the drinks, as it is the one area where Margarita's consistently excels. Over the course of our visits, we have tried the margaritas, the daiquiris, and the red sangria--any of those would be a good choice. Drinky drinks can go a long way toward compensating for weaknesses in the food, and Margarita's drinks are pretty drinky. The menu offers a wide array of choices, more than at most Mexican restaurants we have been to here on the East Coast. That being said, my wife always goes for the grilled skirt steak (#44 on the menu); I have had it a few times as well. The steak always comes out cooked to order. It is so tender that you can cut it with a regular dinner knife (although they do provide a steak knife). If you order the skirt steak, you can add a star to my rating. Other entrees are a bit up and down. The El Rey burrito is okay, but it's too much food. I ordered it once, didn't finish everything, and still felt overly stuffed. On the other hand, I've had the jambalaya twice and enjoyed it both times. The seafood is cooked well, and the sauce keeps everything nice and moist. If I have one comment, I'd say it could be a bit spicier. The one entree Margarita's struggles with is the enchiladas mole poblano. The first time I had it, I thought it was the best I had ever had. I was literally stopping staff in the aisle to rave about it. Since then, I've had it three more times. Once it was okay, but the other two times it was WAY too sweet. I had it tonight and it was especially cloying. I layered on the hot sauce to fix it--it tasted great after that, but the patron shouldn't have to compensate for the kitchen's lack of flavor balance. We don't generally order dessert here, but tonight we opted to share Margarita's coconut gelato. I expected a couple of scoops in a bowl. Instead, we were served a visual and culinary treat of gelato chock full of coconut pieces and what appeared to be mango sorbet, intermingled with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. I suspect we will order this again on subsequent visits. We've gotten to know the staff a bit as semi-regulars. They offer a special greeting and seem genuinely glad to see us. They are always efficient with the chips and salsa arriving almost immediately, drink orders promptly taken and served, and food served piping hot on large plates. Plates are cleared promptly, but we never feel rushed. One final note: this is a small restaurant, not much larger than something you might find in Manhattan. It is dominated by a long, and at times very active, bar. If the place is crowded, the bar is hopping, and groups are waiting for tables, the noise level can get out of control. They also have a live mariachi band on some evenings, which adds to the general cacaphony. Despite its diversity, the NYC area lacks a solid Mexican food scene--especially when compared with Italian, Indian, Greek, and some others. I finally made it to this place! I've heard from people that it was good but the wait was kind of long. Even though it was eight of us, we only waited ten minutes to be seated. The place is rather small but lovely. Nice furniture and decorations. There is music and mariachis. We ordered queso fundido, nachos and taquitos as appetizers. They were all delicious! We were given free chips and salsa two times. My husband doesn't eat salsa but this one looked so good that he decided to try it and he loved it! Four of us ordered the carne asada(skirt stake). The flavor was very good and it was cooked perfect. It came with black beans, rice and a delicious avocado. The children ordered burritos, cheese quesadillas and tacos. They didn't leave any food behind. We ordered margaritas and thought they needed more liquor and the waitress right away replaced them. We also had red sangria and it was very good. Margarita's has been in a tough location for former restaurants, but it is nice to see that it is solidifying a spot on Hillside Ave. by providing a good location for locals to grab a drink and get a decent meal. It is not a big restaurant, so make sure you plan accordingly during dinner hours before it gets crowded. In all honesty, the food here is probably a 3/5. You'll get a solid meal, but it is not anything out of this world. What really is the draw is their happy hour (Monday-Friday from 4-7). Drinks are half priced and are strong, making this definitely one of the better deals in the area for happy hour! We'll it wasn't a good experience when I did. The food was cold, the manager was very rude to my friend. Manager never apologized for anything. I went last Tuesday evening to this restaurant and I can't complain one of the most amazing Mexican food I have eaten. Place is small but very comfortable dinner place. Had a little of waiting but the staff and also the manager were very welcoming and attentive. Have been here twice. The first time I went to the bar and ordered a frozen margarita with salt. It was a warm day and at 6pm after work i figured it was the perfect cocktail. The bartender talked me out of it. She said, "believe me, you dont want a frozen margarita let me get you a margarita on the rocks instead. we dont have a slushy machine and it will only disappoint you". When we walked in there was no one in the waiting area and we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. A few couples walked in and were seated in the little 2 seaters against the wall. no problem. after 10 minutes of waiting, a party of 7 came in and started to wait with us in the little narrow hallway. 10 minutes later i noticed the waiters putting a 4 seat table and 2 seat table together for them. When i asked the host why he was seating them first he said they were there first. I explained to him that we checked in 10 min prior and he lied to my face and said we came after. When I looked at his hostess and said ask your hostess that took our name she just shrugged her shoulders as if to say "your right but he is the boss" We will Never be back to such a poorly run establishment that lies to your face, treats customers with Contempt and cant even make a margarita correctly.. Sooo I ordered $130 worth of food last night and I couldn't be more disappointed. I ordered from the margaritas in East Williston and the portion sizes were NOT as advertised in the least. I ordered the chimichangas which were $17 and they were the size of a spring roll, not to mention they forgot all the sides ($130 order keep in mind). While I understand restaurants are under a lot of pressure in different circumstances these days. The way they handled or did not handle our reservation was unacceptable. We arrived at 8:05 for an 8:15 reservation and the host advised me I still had 10 minutes. At 8:35 I went back to him to ask for an update and he acted like he had no idea who I was. He said it would be a few minutes. At 8:55 I went back to him again and then raised much concern. He pointed out that there weren't available tables as I could see and never once apologized. He then sat a table of 4 who just walked and said, they're a bigger group. Again asking me to look and see no tables were open. Very rude and clearly not trained to manage tables or reservations. I then ask for the manager, which I hate to do but the host was rude and unapologetic. The manager said we be seated in 2 minutes and he would come see us and take care of us once we sat down. We sat about 10-15 minutes later, now after 9pm for our 8:15 reservation and of course were rushed out at 10pm with drinks still in our glasses. Was in the mood for Mexican food, and instead of driving to the Margarita's Cafe in East Meadow, decided to try the Williston Park location closer to me. I ordered the pork taco entree for dinner, and asked the server to please exclude the beans. 10 minutes later, my plate arrives with a good portion of refried beans. I didn't let the server put the plate down, and told him I specifically asked for no beans. 5 minutes later, the plate arrives with 3 small tacos consting of a very generous serving of raw white onions and cilantro atop a small portion of dry pork served on ripped soft corn tortillas, with a side of rice and shredded lettuce. I ate 2 of the tacos after removing 3 tablespoons of onions and cilantro from each, and the last corn tortilla was ripped, so I just ate a few of the pork pieces and decided I'd had enough of the most disappointing $20 meal ever. It makes me so sad to give this location 1 star because I love the food so much! There were 2 things that just turned my stomach about this location. I had called to see if it was busy to come in, the woman on the phone politely said "come in around 6:30 no problem". She didn't ask for my name but she told me they were not busy and we would get seated right away. First my fiancé and I walked in maybe 15 minute before our 6:30 "reservation" and the hostess was an older man and extremely rude. Keep in mind there was absolutely no one in the restaurant. He asked if we had a reservation and we said we called and asked if it would be busy and they told us we can be seated. He seemed angry and frustrated and then rolled his eyes and put us in a corner and said "alright just sit there". At this point my fiancé and I were planning on walking out but we were starving so we let it go because we love the food there. Our waiter was the sweetest! Everything went fine until I got up from my seat and saw a giant centipede crawling on my chair. I hate bugs and can't stand them so this was a big NO for me. I'm not very picky, but I felt very rushed and I could tell that the hostess was trying to push us out of there. It was such a shame. Over all it was a good experience. I met a friend there Saturday night at 6pm. I got there early and the place was kinda empty. My friend arrived 15mins later and by then the place was packed. I needed to vent to my friend but it was very loud and a roaming mariachi band worked the room. The drinks were good but small, I got a PR punch and she got a Mojito. For apps we got jalapeno peppers which were good. My friend got fish tacos and, like other reviewers noted the tortilla fell apart and she had to eat it with a fork. I got chimichangas, they were broken up into three small egg roll shaped rolls. I have never written a review on any platform, but felt compelled after this horrific experience. Upon arriving for our reservation 5 minutes late, we were scolded by an incredibly rude hostess who told us "we could wait". As if that wasn't bad enough, we continued to be shocked by how horribly she treated other customers who were also told their tables weren't ready. On top of her rude behavior towards patrons, she yelled at the wait staff and told them not to offer tables dessert menus. It was clear the restaurant was severely overbooked (she literally said "this is why I hate OpenTable"), but instead of being apologetic, she chose to take it out on the customers. I love Margaritas Cafe, and have been to the East Meadow and Wantagh locations many times. I'm so happy one opened up near my new apartment! Favorite Mexican place in the area. The food, service, and drinks are consistently great, and it's always a good time. I like going on weeknights when there are good deals (Happy hour, $3 margarita night, 2 for 1 dinners). It is always a lively atmosphere, even on weekdays. This location has the same menu options/drinks as far as I am aware, but is a slightly more upscale-looking and trendy environment than the East Meadow location. The food is a little pricy for Mexican, but it is higher quality and probably more authentic than the average Mexican restaurant on LI. We recently moved to Mineola and found out about their location in Williston Park. We were a little hesitant to go since we didn't know how the service would be. Thankful we treated with the same quality of amazing service and were served by one of the servers who remembered us from the East Meadow location. Javier our server was great he recommended dishes that I hadn't tried with great detail and knowledge of the flavors. The lay out of the restaurant is beautiful and the vibe was made even more authentic with the addition of the mariachi bad that played during our dinner.
