I have to say I read the reviews and understand that this is a chain Mexican restaurant. I'm Mexican and I am accustomed to my mom's cooking and this was not that. BUT it was EXTREMELY good! My husband, grandson and I enjoyed some fantastic takeout! We sat at the bar for a beer while we waited (my husband and I, not my grandson). The only complaint: we didn't get our churros. I called to say that we would pick them up later, and the manager, Brad said "we will do you one better...we will bring them to you." The manager hand delivered to our hotel the missing churros. The food was great! Everything was cooked to perfection! The service was outstanding -- if I could, I'd give it 10 stars instead of five. I haven't been a huge fan of this place for the past couple of years because I feel the quality of the food has gone down. That said, it is a very easy place to bring the kids and they are always happy here. Tonight was the same until I started to chew on a toothpick in my chimichangas. The server was great about it. Worried I hurt myself and told me the manager would be over. The manager decided I wasn't worth visiting but kindly took off a6 dollar dessert instead of my meal. I believe poor management is the culprit behind margaritas decline. Don't waste your money. Too expensive for so so food and horrible management. read more

My parents, boyfriend & I came here for a late lunch after a 5k - I have visited 3 other Margaritas locations previously & pretty much have the same experience at each of them. Good service, piping hot food & good value. This visit went particularly well because we had selected outdoor seating & our waitress was really friendly & efficient. My first ever 1 star review, and it's well deserved. The service was inept and they were dangerously careless with a gluten allergy. Full story: We came here on a Saturday night for a wedding after party. This place was walkable from our hotels, and made sense. Everyone was feeling great after a wonderful night. We had about 30 people coming, but just 4 of us arrived ahead of the others. We informed our waitress that there would be many more coming, that everyone was hungry, and that they should prepare. But since we were there first, we would sneak our orders in ahead. I ordered a taco plate, but asked for one taco swapped out. This would haunt me later when they just couldn't wrap their heads around the fact I wanted an Americano taco instead of steak. My GF is gluten free due to a serious allergy and asked if their chips and tacos contained any gluten. The server said no, so she ordered chips and salsa and a fish taco. The other 26 people arrived and all was going smoothly. Until our waitress came back to retake or order. It was as if she had forgotten everything. That's fine. Maybe she's new, maybe they're slammed. All was forgiven until our order was taken a third time, for the sake of generating separate checks (something they initiated). Still, we laughed it off. Wedding night, no worries. Fast forward 45 minutes. The 26 others are receiving their food and drinks. Still no sign of my tacos or those a friend had ordered. I had also ordered a Pepsi that never came. Our order is taken a fourth time. Now we're annoyed, but it's more of a joke than anything. A minute or two later, taco plates come out for us. But they are not at all what we ordered. They take them back promising to fix it. At this point my GF gets her fish taco, and they verbally confirm it has a gluten free shell when they hand it to her. It's now an hour after we ordered, literally everyone else is eating and some are done, and my taco plate arrives. I take a bite, and it's cold. I'm not talking "sat out on the counter too long" cold, I'm talking "we took this meat out of the freezer and didn't nuke it long enough" cold. I took a few bites because I was very hungry at this point but couldn't bring myself to eat more than that. They saw I had barely touched the plate and apologized. My good humor was being tested. So at this point we have bad service, wrong order, and cold gross tacos.. But that wasn't the end. My GF tells me her stomach doesn't feel well. I make my way to the waitress station and ask again if the fish taco is gluten free, assuming at this point it was likely they screwed that up too. A look of dread filled her eyes and she ran in the back to ask. The fish tacos are NOT gluten free. They served them to us verbally confirming the shell was gluten free, but failed to think of what was in the taco. Careless, and reckless. They apologized profusely, but the damage was done and 24 hours of stomach pain was in the forecast. They said they wanted to make it right and took our address. One guess as to how... THEY SENT US A $20 GIFT CARD FOR MARGARITAS. Unbelievable! What an insult. As if we're ever going back to this or any other Margs. A simple apology note would have been fine. My friends and I have gone to Margarita's for years but frankly we were very interested in trying the new Mexico Lindo across the street for their "authentic" Mexican food. After attempting to go their on Sunday (see my other review) we decided to ditch Mexico Lindo and go to our old standby of Margarita's. We were not disappointed!! Unlike Mexico Lindo, we were greeted immediately, shown to a great table and immediately had our drink order taken. We then had some great chips and salsa (Margarita's salsa is my favorite!) This is a very good restaurant chain. They have great Mexican food here, and the salsa is very yummy. They give you a warm nachos and salsa while you wait for your food. Margaritas also has good sales on alcoholic drinks occasionally. Most of their alcoholic mixed drinks seem to be on the stronger side. The wait staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Management really does seem concerned if you are enjoying your restaurant experience. The atmosphere is colorful, vibrant, and just overall fun to look around. They actually have very good coffee there as well. I would however stay away from the sprite fountain drink, it kind of tastes like tap water. They have some very nice vegetarian dishes. I'm not sure why we keep coming back to Margarita's -- but I suspect it has something to do with the $10 birthday coupon they send us twice a year. My three stars break down as follows: 4 stars for the drinks: beers from the taps were very cold (and they have a decent selection of local seasonal microbrews) and we love their specialty mixed drinks (CoCo Loco and a now-no-longer-on-the-menu Cozumel Cooler, which they'll make, if you ask nicely). 3 stars for the food: it's slightly better than average Mexican. The Queso Fundido appetizer is always a winner. Burritos are huge and satisfying, if not particularly inspired or gourmet. Sadly, the taco salad, my staple, was rather anemic on my last visit; I ordered the "Roasted Vegetables" version and had to dig hard to find a few tiny pieces of roasted squash. Really? 2 stars for the service. Our waitress, while nice enough, seemed entirely disinterested in being efficient or available. Sadly, this level of service was not surprising at all -- as we've had nothing but below-par service at Margarita's for our last 10 or so visits. Again, why do I keep coming back? This restaurant is really good. I've been to the Portsmouth restaurant about a year ago, and this one last night. I feel it's important to point out this is a chain restaurant, it's not authentic Mexican, but it is good food and drinks at a reasonable price. The waitress was very nice! She was very friendly, helpful, and came up to us at all the right times - a big plus for me is not being bothered when eating the entrée. The complimentary chips and salsa were nice; the salsa was fresh, delicious, spicy and chunky. The chips were warm and good, but a bit greasy. Overall, it was good enough that we didn't find the need for an appetizer (we got two servings of the chips and salsa). We got the Nachos el Deluxo appetizer at the Portsmouth restaurant - it was good, but very filling. The entrees took a while to come out. It came out hot - I ordered the Enchiladas Banderas; it was three enchiladas (no meat), all with delicious sauces, It also came with rice (a bit dry but tasty when mixed) and refried or black beans (again, better mixed). My other half got the chicken Mexican Flag which I believe to be the same three enchiladas but with pork or chicken (and also the rice and beans). He got the chicken and really enjoyed it and devoured it! We ordered margaritas, the Pomegranate and Strawberry - they were both very delicious! Not a fan of the Exeter margaritas at all. My husband and I recently moved to Exeter from Plaistow. We had frequently gone to the Salem NH location and the new Methuen MA one.... Wow what a difference. The service at the Exeter location was sooo much worse than the others. We tried it 3 times hoping for an improvement. Nope. Still awful. It's not authentic Mexican, but as far as NH goes, who can really tell? There was a location a short distance away from my home in NJ that closed down because I think this stereotypical watering hole just doesn't work in places where there are actually people from Mexico. Enough knocking of the cartoonish theme, the food here is actually prepared very well, the staff is friendly and knowledgable and the establishment is CLEAN. Working in restaurants for 10 years you learn what to look for, and they know what they are doing here. I recommend this place for a casual sit down meal or beveraging. Went here for a late lunch/early dinner on our way to the Stratham Fair last weekend. Reminded me of the typical "Mexican" chains around here (like Acapulco's). We had a trainee-waiter who was 1,000 times nicer than the waitress that was training him. The salsa was spicy and the guacamole was just ok. I prefer a bit chunkier guac and this was smooth/oily? Got the taco salad with chicken, it was yummy but not ground-breaking. The margaritas were really good and pretty strong. I liked the decor, it was colorful and quirky. We recently had a meal there and you could not hear yourself think the music was so loud, the music they were playing had vulgarity in it while the bar seating area was filled with families and the meal burn my lips off with spices. Never again! We gave it another try and the staff were much busier talking to one of the employees that was having dinner then their customers. Should not have given it a second try. There was a group of 7 of us, we waited 15 minutes before our waitress, Sam F., even came to the table to take our drink orders. Once she did, we easily waited another 30 minutes for our drinks. It was not at all busy. Throughout the night, Sam F was rude, impolite and acted as if we were putting her out. It was an unpleasant evening. My husband and I went in for the first time for a night out. We were enjoying the experience till the fire alarm went off right as the server set our food down, and everyone got evacuated before we even took a bite. The staff did not say anything when we all got outside. We were unsure if we should stay or leave and it was 20 degrees outside. After the firemen came we all went back inside. Nobody apologized for the inconvenience. Everyone just carried on as though nothing happened. We were outside for at least 10 minutes, our food was warm but not hot when we got back in. They did not offer to comp any of our food for the inconvenience, even though our dinning experience got ruined. I would have been happy if somebody had at least apologized, however nobody did. I am not pleased with how the staff handled that and I will not be going back. read more

I really love Mexican food. Margaritas is just a chain restaurant and it's pretty comfortable. I enjoy the atmosphere and the food it really not too bad either. The drinks are decent and the prices are acceptable. The Exeter location has always been really great aside from one incident during the summer when I went in with my daughter in the middle of the day. There were maybe 4 people sitting at the bar so it was pretty dead. We asked if we could sit out on the patio. It seriously took the server a half hour to bring our drinks and she forgot my water, (because I wanted a glass of water with my fish tacos) 3 times. Or food took forever to get and once we were served she never came back out to check on us. Although I can't complain about the food, the service needs to step it up read more

We really tried to like this restaurant. The first time we went we sat out on the patio and our server was fantastic. However, every visit since has been less than pleasing. Last weekend we sat in the dinning room and had the worst service possible. I believe her name was Alexis or something along those lines. She was slow,forgetful and unapologetic. She forgot our app and instead of just telling us when we asked about it she put the order in. Our app came out about 10? minutes after our meals(which were both wrong) She apologized under her breath and walked away. After we were done eating she gave us attitude about taking home our forgotten app after we had to ask to do so with it sitting in th same place she put it while we were eating dinner. As has been said before, this is NH, not Texas. However, the food is pretty good as it is, and the servers are fast, efficient and friendly. It's an easy stop for lunch or dinner as we live in Exeter. We love Mexican food, and Margaritas is the only game in town for that. However, today we stopped in for lunch at about 1:15pm. We stood there by the desk and waited--and waited--and waited for someone, anyone to show up to seat us. That didn't happen, so we left and went somewhere else. We should not have to holler to get someone to seat us. The afternoon may be slow, but this does not mean that someone should not be watching the door for customers. read more

We were then introduced to our wait staff who were very professional, kind, and efficient. We were one of the very first customers here several years ago. They were off to a bumpy start. We don't go into the restaurant part as most times it is either me or or my husband or my son and or one other person. I grew up in Texas and know how New Englanders like their food on the bland side so the food is good for that expectation..a little light on heat but otherwise it is fresh. I try everything once but the salmon with hot sauce and lime is awesome and my GoTo meal. I also like the other fish options. The burger can be from anywhere. The drinks keep us coming back. Trevor always remembers my name even when its been a while. The staff is always very genuinely friendly to us. They change around the menu which is good for the regulars.It is not authentic.However here are a lot more healthier options than other "real" Tex-mex. read more

Came in with my family of four and let me start off by saying we are not the easiest bunch to wait on. Sarah was our server and she was fantastic!! She was enthusiastic and made my entire family happy! She got all of the orders right, got them out quickly and was very attentive even when she had to keep running back and fourth because my children decided they needed a sauce or a refill and did not seem to be bothered by their requests.
