I wasn't a huge fan of this place UNTIL I tried the fish tacos. They rival the ones I eat in California all the time. So good!!

The decor is very charming. The service is cheerful. The food....unfortunately I wish I had good things to say.

Not a bad place if you are looking for a quick meal and a cold beer. This was close to my hotel and I was able to walk. The food is ok and the prices are very reasonable. Since I was alone I sat at the bar and the locals are very nice. read more

I would like to give it less than 1 star but alas I cannot. Arrived this evening around 7:10. We were seated right away since there were plenty of empty tables. After 15 minutes sitting there not one person came over to us. People that came in after U.S. Had immediate attention. The host sat other tables around us and still no one. We finally walked out after 20 minutes. The place was NOT busy at all. It is a shame since Margaritas used to be one of our favorites. Nice Tex-Mex chain; not an authentic Mexican menu, great salsa and good chili relleno. Also liked the taco, enchilada and burrito plate. Maybe try the house margaritas. The restaurant is decorated with a crazy Mexican motif. read more

It's just down the road from Water Country. We saw, we stopped and had a very pleasant meal here with the family. We were seated at a large booth. The ceiling is high in the main dining area, so the space was filled with decorative accents that came across as shabby chic/south of the border. Our server was friendly and attentive. After reading the reviews, against my better judgment I decided to give them a try (was within walking distance to my hotel). I sat at the bar and I have to say, either they read the yelp reviews or they are aware of the service issues. It was a Wednesday night and the bartenders were on their game, they made drinks(mostly margaritas) with passion and precision. The food was delivered in a timely manner and was just ok, but as expected for a multiple location Mexican joint. I think many of you have elevated expectations of what this place is, good drinks and okay food, if you want great Mexican, find a mom and pop shop with grandma cooking. I usually love it here. Tonight was horrible. Waitress brought us our wings and told us she'd be right back with plates and never came back. We finally ate them and made a mess bc we were tired of waiting. When she finally came back we asked for the check, and even that took a long time. I don't know if they were short staffed or if she was new, but it seemed the only person getting attention was someone who worked there who was eating on their day off. I would have talked to the manager on our way out, except he was nowhere to be found either. We've had a lot of mediocre service, but I think tonight was the last straw for us. read more

I went there one afternoon with my boyfriend. We sat on the outdoor patio since it was a warm day. The waitress gave us menus, and then we smelled an odor like rotting trash. It took us a few seconds to realize that it was the menus that smelled like that. That's when we should have left, but we did not. The food tasted like something you would get in the frozen food section of any grocery store. I would not go back there, nor would I recommend this place to anyone. read more

I should have done this long ago. I have NEVER been disappointed by the food or drinks. Staff is always AWESOME. A couple weeks ago I was having dinner with son here. After his second plate of tacos - My son was convinced they had changed the way the beef tacos were made (let's just say Taco Tuesday's are a norm for us - he is 14 and can bankrupt them if got really motivated). I felt it important to teach him how to provide feedback so I asked to speak with the manager. Mike came over immediately and discussed my son's concern. Had a margarita that tasted like they cleaned out the dump bucket. It had floaters of multiple colors and tasted totally wrong. Update, the waitress graciously added $10 to the bill on her own for an extreme tip after not bringing the 3 kids any eating utensils. I have been going here for a long time, that being said it may be a long time before I go back. The service is just awful. You have to beg to get a drink, never mind ordering food. Passive aggressive waiter..."Hamilton" who served us non Guatalhara steak fajitas. When we brought it to his attention he actually argued that the cooks intentionally do not put much spice on it and that was the correct dish. After explaining that we order it often and this was not it, he returned it to the kitchen without apology then returned 10 minutes later not asking if we would like warm tortillas since the first ones were stone cold at this point. We asked for a water and he brought that 15 minutes later and he was not busy at the time. He is an extremely poor waiter, and should not be serving paying customers. We are extremely disappointed with this visit to the Exeter Margaritas and will not be returning. I work in Exeter and have had outstanding service with Karla, but this guy should go. read more

For only the 2nd time a group I was with was disappointed in our favorite stopping place after a meeting. Very slow service, food didn't come all at once. 2 people ordered Fajitas, 1 got her food with none of her condiments or tortillas to be able to eat it. It was several minutes as her food sat there. The other didn't get her Fajitas for a full 5 minutes later. 1 members food was not the same as she always get, less ingredients. New cooks? Short staffed in the kitchen? 2 weeks ago I ran into the same thing with family. 2 members finally got their meal as the rest of us were 1/2 way through ours. AND when I got my change back from paying cash I got the dollar bills BUT NOT THE 49 cents in change. I brought up to the waiter and he said it was their policy to round up or down if under 50 cents? Food is just okay here I don't think I've had a terrible experience but I'm pretty sure I've had much better Mexican food. The food is definitely average the steak in the steak fajita was a little overcooked and kind of tough and the peppers and onions lacked flavor.The Rice that came as a side also lacked flavor it was well cooked but had no taste the best thing that we had there was a garlic shrimp shrimp are big and the sauce that they were cooked in was fantastic.guacamole was average as well nothing made it stand out pretty basic same goes for their black beans. Was not a terrible experience but I've had better Mexican.as for servers they were okay but we had to keep asking for water and one of the people in our party had dropped a fork and it took 20 minutes to get a new one and the restaurant was not that busy currently there is a better place in the area maybe next time we'll check that out read more

So disappointed stopped in for a late lunch 1:45 it wasn't busy. We were seated and given drinks right away and it all went terribly after that. Party of 6 we ordered our food and it took so long we were starting to consider asking for all of it to go, we opted to stay but one of the meals was totally wrong we were not upset, however by this time we were not able to wait for the correct dish. I asked for the check our waitress handed me the itemized bill for a different table as it was only 36.00 I brought it to her attention. I gave her my card and said we were in a rush. She returned my card with the payment slip and I added a 20% tip. She did not add the itemized check so I asked for it before I left. She totally charged us for the meal she took away that was incorrect. The hostess ask if I wanted the manager and I said yes but after a few minutes I just had to leave. What should have been a nice relaxing lunch ended as an anxiety filled disaster. My fish tacos that I shared with my daughter were excellent. read more

I have been going here for about five years now, not because its awesome but because there are just not that many places that are open late in the area with TVs and a half way decent bar. I have recently discovered a few other places with these amenities in Exeter and have pretty much stopped coming here. The beer selection is lame and the food is lame. I know its a chain but they can at least try. I remember one time I ordered some kind of beefy nacho dish. I can't remember the name of it but it had the word beef in it. Needless to say, there was about one teaspoon of beef. To be fair, the server agreed that we got ripped off and they brought us more in a side dish. Their servers are always friendly and their bartenders are quick. 5/5 for service. read more

I've been taking my family here since it opened several years ago. We like the food very much and the table wait staff is always great. In several years, we have never had a waiter that wasn't very good. At busy times, the wait is a drag, but they do their best to make everyone happy and when you sit down, it is worth it. This restaurant is more expensive that the other local Mexican places, but it is a different atmosphere. The Mexican folk art around the restaurant and the general decor add to the experience. The dessert menu is very limited. Some of my family and friends really enjoy the fried ice cream. If you don't, no dessert for you. It would be nice if they had a selection of small-portioned desserts. I'd like Margarita's to be a little more affordable. read more

I never write reviews but wanted to pass our experience on. Four of us went there for dinner this past Saturday evening. There were errors with 3 out of the 4 meals we ordered. We received the wrong side orders, salad with items my daughter ask them to exclude, and had to ask for water four times. My enchiladas were swimming in grease. To top it all off, I looked at my credit card statement on line and they billed me twice for the same evening. I won't be returning there. read more

The food here is good but they don't have very many vegan options. No vegan cheese, no tofu or vegan meat option. I get a bean taco with guac and it's just so boring, chipotle has vegan meat and they sell vegan cheese at the hannafords right down the street from his restaurant so it's not hard to do. I would really like to see more vegan options in the menu. read more

Pros: some pretty good dishes, particularly the chipotle wing appetizer. Cons...Uh, well it is suppose to be Mexican, and unfortunately people in the northeast wouldn't know decent Mexican food if it was the only cuisine left north of the border. Try Loco Oco's in Kittery- only good Mexican place besides one semi-Mexican establishment ( some what vegetarian and seafood venture as well) on 48th Street in Manhatten. No flavor what so ever at Margaritas with its "Mexican cuisine", whether we are talking burritos, chile rellenos, chimichangas. The definition of spicy around here means a single drop of tobasco. I guess if you haven't had Mexican in the southwest, west, even in the deep south, people's taste buds reflect their expectations for cheese and rice, FAR less seasoning and lack of cumin in the recipes. So if you like it, knock yourself dead, like I said, there are some decent alternatives on the menu. But Mexican, Margaritas is in name only. read more
