Roach doing the cucaracha on our plate. I discreetly showed the waiter how well the roach was dancing on our plate. The chased the dancing roach around the table for a few seconds until he caught it. He showed the dancing roach not to tango with him. We were the whisked off our feet to a new table and some new food even though we had eaten half of the food on the plate before the dancing roach made its debut. We decided not to continue eating there even after the manager told us that that happens every once in a while. We were then handed a bill for the full cost of the meal. I spoke again to the manager and she was very reluctant to take anything off the bill. I think they expected us to pay for a dinner and a show. Well I contacted Isabel Suarez-Melgar and she apologized and said she would send me a gift card for the cost of the dinner which was about 50.00 dollars but I am still waiting. While I understand this restaurant is no longer part of Lalo's, I've been coming to this location for close to 20 years. And the things that always had me coming back are no longer there, so I will no longer be a returning customer. I always looked forward to the complimentary marinated carrots and vegetables. Every other Mexican restaurant sets out chips and salsa, but those marinated carrots were something special and distinctive. The chips and salsa they do provide are just fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way for them. The Burrito Dinner has been on that menu for as long as I can remember, and this past Saturday I had a real taste for it. The chicken burrito that I ate was boring, as it was only a big log of shredded chicken on top of a tortilla lightly smeared with refried beans. The burrito I remembered and craved had a little tomato, lettuce, sour cream, guac, cheese and beans all wrapped up in it -- so flavorful with lots of different textures wrapped tightly together. What I ate this past weekend was nothing like that, and for that, they've lost my business forever. Oh, and I had to ask for a new water glass, one without lipstick smears on it. read more

I have dined at almost all of the Lalo's and I like this one best. When I'm feeling fruity, the mango margaritas are great. I love their fajitas, I usually get a steak and chicken combination. The botana combinada is another favorite of mine, nachos, quesadillas, flautas and tamales. I don't like ham in my quesadillas, so they happily substituted chicken, which was all white meat. Once in awhile the tamales can be a little dry. When I do save room for dessert I chose the flan that comes with the side of sauce--yummy. read more

Update. This place re-branded as "Margaritas" even though it is the same place. However, we were very impressed with the food quality. It is much better than what it used to be when it was Lalo's....they must have changed something else besides just the name because the food here is pretty decent now. We've been a few times since the change and we are pretty impressed. Good job. Delicious margaritas! My favorite is the guava Fresh guacamole made at your tableside! The sopes are made fresh to order and the carne asada is delicious and well (but not overly) seasoned. Margaritas skillet has EVERYTHING and big enough for 2 to share! The shrimp ceviche is AMAZING also. My new go to spot. You will find me here at least once a week. read more

For really great mexican food and kicka** margaritas this is the place. Just dont make the same mistake I did on one of my first visits and insist on the "Large" margarita. After struggling through Eisenhower traffic I was seated and, looking around the room, noticed two drink sizes and decided the larger was the right one for me. I ordered a "large" margarita and the server, looking skeptical, asked "Large?" which I confirmed. He asked if I was sure and I insisted that I ordered what I wanted. Well, to my surprise the drink he delivered was fishbowl sized and drew laughs from my dinner mates and people seated around me. Sad to say I did finish it before heading to our destination, the Bulls game. Reportedly it was a great game, unfortunately I didn't recall much of it. The size I should have ordered was a medium. The food is very good and fresh. My favorite, chicken soup, is not on the menu and is excellent. Large chunks of vegetables and enough chicken to satisfy anyone's hunger. The chips and salsa are very good as is everything else I have ordered. The mole is very tasty. read more

All I'll say is that there are better options for Mexican food not a long drive away. Tonight's selection consisted of the Marinated Pork Taco Dinner with Rice and Re-fried Beans. Nice environment, the service a little slow even for a Wed. night when it wasn't crowded. Maybe it would have tasted better if I'd washed it down with a Margarita, but I don't typically drink when I go out anyway. Over all I'll have to say I won't be back. And I've eaten at that same restaurant through all its different names over the course of 10 years or so. read more

This place has amazing margaritas. I highly suggest walking or public transit. The food is very tasty. As a vegetarian, there is one option that is actually vegetarian (unlike a lot of restaurants that claim to have vegetarian options and don't.) This is the best location of all the Lalos IMHO. It's a nice small place with a great mix of people. Get a table by the window and it's a nice little date place or just a place to hang with good people. The service is excellent. the majority of the staff are long time family members and workers at the place. Take the time to get to know them and they will treat you right. The food is prepared fast and you never have to wait around. The food is good. not great but very good. I have never had anything to blow you away but never had anything bad either. The reason to come here is the margarita' and the chips and salsa. Fresh baked chips and the best salsa ever with just a slight kick. The great thing about this place is you will have the avg joe dinning next to an executive. Good food, great drinks, great atmophere, what more could you want? I can't believe anyone would complain about waiting on a friday night. If you want to get in right away on the weekend go early or go late. Did not like this place. It took three attempts before we actually had a meal there. The first time we attempted to go (about 5 days after buying the Groupon) we get there on a Saturday night and the place is dark. We find a hand written note taped to the door that says they were closed for repairs (less than a week of putting your offer on Groupon and selling hundreds of deals??). The second time we attempt to go was during the day. Only to find out our deal was only valid for dinner (my bad for not reading the details more carefully). However after going in and seeing and speaking to the host at the front door, I was GLAD we couldn't use our deal at that time. The host was standing at the podium picking at and dabbing his inflammed, moist cold sore (read, herpes) with a napkin. Do you people know how herpes is spread?! Contact with the drainage! Which was being put on his fingers, the napkin, the podium, the menus he gave you when seating you,...you touch any thing containing that virus, touch your food, drink, face - welcome to a lifetime of recurrent herpes infection my friend. So we were more than happy to het the hell outta there. Most people get cold sores - but the key is don't touch it! That's how it's spread to others (besides the obvious kissing, or whatever.) When you work in food service you should know this. So, because I couldn't stand seeing unspent money in my Groupon account, about a month later we went back. The food was quite bland and worst of all - it was was CLEARLY MICROWAVED! It tasted last a mexican Banquet frozen dinner that you buy at the grocery store and nuke, then try to hurry and eat it before it hardens. Our food was dry hardened as it cooled off. Margaritas was a terrible experience from just about every angle. However, the waiter was fine and we tipped him appropriately - it wasn't his fault the restaurant was closed on a Saturday night, the host didn't know how to handle having a herpes sore, and the food was terrible. I don't think there is anything bad here (or at least from my 100's of experiences here). They always bring out homemade chips and a chunky salsa. Thats the only pretty basic thing there. Then they bring out this AMAZING chicken soup with potatoes, carrots, and everything. (My #1 fave soup! I always get a chicken taco. I've tried the enchiladas too, and thats great. We came here for lunch thinking it would be better since it changed ownership but its not its actually worse I think .. I had a burrito which was awfull it was stuffed with beans which tasted from can and meat tasted re cooked it had very little flavor I had to pile on theyre can salsa to get it to a descent state .. the only good thing was that they now make guacamole fresh by your table and a good helping .. will not be returning unless I get a free meal. I had vegetarian enchiladas. They were not flavorful. I told my waiter to let the chef know. He never apologized ,he never sent over the chef, nor manager to see if there was something else I wanted to eat. margaritas and table side guac are good...everything else was pretty bad and bland (burrito, enchiladas, chili rellanos). The service was okay. We took two bites out of the fried ice cream and it tasted like old fryer oil. When we mentioned something to our waiter he just shrugged and said that it's popular......not the best response when a customer isn't happy.
