I was in on the south west side of State College for work today and found TNEC using "local favorites" search on Yelp. Nice little diner just outside of State College of SR 45. I had a great lunch with an awesome Rueben and shoe string fries. Home made corned beef on an excellent marbled rye. FYI The fries were a little cold. I also considered biscuits and gravy but they don't serve home fries after 11:00, odd for a breakfast all day place. The banana bread French toast also caught my eye so I grabbed a slice of banana bread to go. My wife and I stopped in for breakfast recently. The location was quite charming and we were surprised by the number of people at the restaurant late on a Friday morning. The ambience was bright and clean. Pricing was reasonable. Our server was new and attentive to our experience. The food was OK. My wife asked for her Florentine eggs Benedict to come out hard and they were soft. She had to send them back to the kitchen for additional cook time. My eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and the ham was good and the highlight of the dish. The hollandaise sauce however was watery and on the cool side. The hashbrowns were average. The star of breakfast was the corned beef hash, simply top notch. We will return for a second experience. read more

Our experience was exceptional. Pulled into the HP parking space in front of the door. After I got my 94-year old mother and her walker out of the car an incredibly kind young man named Zach opened the door, and assisted us to the restroom . Upon returning, he seated us at a table and was super attentive. When we were ready to leave, he retrieved mom's walker and once again opened and held the door. It's heartwarming to see such a kind young man. The food was terrific and we'll be returning soon. read more

My wife and I visited the Naked Egg Cafe while in State College. The servers couldn't have been nicer to accommodate us and our 2 dogs in their shaded patio. They brought them water and gave them attention. My wife had a delicious breakfast burrito, and I had a GIANT waffle w/ scrambled eggs. We also shared a side of bacon with our pups. My waffle could not have been better, and the eggs were perfectly cooked. I cannot recommend this awesome place enough! read more

I picked this randomly as I was driving through and am so glad I did! Staff was really friendly. Food was AMAZING. The english muffin wasn't toasted, the ham was just a couple pieces of lunch meat, the egg was overcooked, and the hollandaise sauce was as thin as water with almost no flavor. This place was delicious! The service was fantastic! Our waitress was super nice and wonderful! The banana bread French toast was delicious, creative and inventive, but it sort of felt like just a warmed up piece of banana bread. I think to get the full French toast experience it should but cut thinner so it can really soak up the batter and get that crust on the outside. We haven't been here in a year. I wanted to go since I loved their eggs beni. The two female waitresses were absolutely awful. From the moment we walked in, to our service, and then the attitude they give you. Some people just shouldn't be servers. It's that simple. Fast forward to us going to Oliver's in Erie. That waitress got a 40% tip. She was fantastic and outstanding at her job. i guarantee she's going places in life. This place on the other hand, I will not be going back to naked egg cafe due to the waitresses who work there. If that's the way you run your business then you deserve the decline in clientele. read more

Certainly some of the best breakfast around the State College area. Quaint feeling cafe with good food and quick service. The customized burrito I had was phenomenal. My only real complaint was paying over $8 for a SINGLE GLASS of orange juice. It was fresh squeezed but I honestly prefer the concentrated store bought juice. Regardless of my preference, fresh squeezed or not, it's absolutely baffling to almost pay more for my drink than my meal! read more

Breakfast is our families favorite meal of the day so we're always looking for great places to enjoy. Starting with the Irish combining scrambled eggs with salmon, this dish was excellent. Lightly scrambled eggs with flaky salmon creates a delicious combo that goes well with the side of toast and the cook Naked Egg did it well. The Western combined the traditional green peppers with onions done exactly right tasted very good. The BYO's made to order were also very good. The spinach side is made with rich tasty leaves steams yo perfection. Hash home fries are also an excellent side that were light and tasty, a dish that many restaurants will over butter or oil making the soggy but not here. Lastly, the banana bread French toast was a home run. 5-star for this place. Waiter was attentive, and seating was fast for the crowd on a Saturday morning. We were on the road and every breakfast place was only open at 8am, Naked Egg was open at 7am, had good reviews, and pictures so we checked it out. Great discovery! The menu had some unique items like crab Benedict's and banana French toast. They were flexible enough to create an omelet with crab meat, cheese, & tomato which was excellent. Our waitress Rachel Lynn (ironically same first and middle name of my wife ) was friendly, knew the menu and even swapped our coffee when it wasn't hot enough. My Rachael had biscuits & gravy and a latte that was very good. Their coffee is unique as well so don't feel you need to go to a coffee shop. The food is amazing. The wait can feel long, but I remind myself that it means my food is fresh. I got scrambled eggs this time, but I actually got over easy the time before and prefered those. Both taste amazing, it's just easier to eat on toast as a whole egg. The tots are nice and crispy. I gave my bacon to my boyfriend, but I have been told it is also amazing. We have been so excited to eat here waiting YEARS to come at a time it wasn't packed. It was worth the wait, and now we know the secret is to come at opening. I had the Irish which is smoked salmon scrambled eggs with grilled sliced tomatoes and toast. I added the Scotch Egg since I chose such a healthy breakfast. It was savory and the mustard went perfectly with it. Family went with other options including the Cinnamon Roll Pancake. She loved it. The icing swirl sure looked good. We moved to the area recently and many people we spoke to mentioned the Naked Egg. In retrospect I think they were using the place as a landmark rather than ever recommending the place for eating. But because of all the cars parked there on occasion, we got the impression that it was a trendy spot (???) so we had breakfast there once a few weeks ago. The place was a bit empty but service was very slooooow. The "vibe", which I saw mentioned here, was like an old luncheonette. Looks like all the furniture was leftover from when it was an ice cream parlor decades ago, or picked up at an auction. No warmth or great smells, or interesting decorating - it was drab, dingy, shabby. Not shabby-chic, just shabby. The food matched - drab, tasteless, a little cold, and way too expensive for the plainness of the menu. What the crowds are there for, I know not. I'd prefer my own breakfast at home. I was visiting State College and wanted a nice, unique breakfast and used social media to find this place... AMAZING!  Best meal I had while in this area! They have a very unique and cool menu loaded with all the traditional breakfast items, as well as the fun stuff, like a hash bowl with chicken sausage and a Mexican theme (sauce, etc)... it even has charred corn in it!  They make their own corned beef hash, which might look slightly like Hormel, but I can tell you, it's most definitely NOT Hormel... This CBH was really good and seasoned with herbs too!  They have other items like breakfast burrito and lots of other fun stuff. When I got there, they were half full, this was on a Tuesday morning.  By the time I left, they were packed, inside and out!  People were parking on the main road, across the street from this place... Love it here! My favorite place to get breakfast in State College as an alum. Their food is amazing and prices are super reasonable. If you arrive before 10am with a large party, you should be good to go - but especially on football or graduation weekends etc you want to get there earlier than you actually want to eat. When you arrive, make sure you put your name in at the front (sometimes there's a fairly large line to do this). If you like hard boiled eggs, you HAVE to try the 'chicken oyster' while you're here! It's essentially a hard boiled egg surrounded by sausage, and it's soooo yummy. I always add one on to whatever main meal I order. read more

Seasoning on shrimp was perfect; grits were silkiest creamiest ones ever; eggs perfectly done, gravy was light and flavorful. Visited Naked Egg Cafe a few days ago. I ordered the standard breakfast of eggs, bacon and home fries. Can't do much to mess up that order. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy which is his standard fare wherever we go; however, this gravy contained onion and garlic which was so strong it overwhelmed the flavor of the sausage gravy. The Egg is the perfect place for breakfast or lunch. Everything is always well cooked and seasoned perfectly. The Juevos Rancheros is one of their best breakfast dishes and the pancakes are always fluffy and perfect.
