I called in a pretty simple order here & was rewarded with a total headache. After arguing with the host about my order (it was wrong and she tried to convince me very rudely that it wasn't), she realized she had given my order to someone else who came to pick up food. Instead of apologizing she started to call the last numbers who had called the restaurant to tell the person to bring the food back. She even called my phone while I was right in front of her. Ridiculously incompetent & rude. Five minutes go by after I ask to speak to a manager and finally he set things straight & told the kitchen to remake my order. Took an additional 30 minutes (to be expected but that's why I called ahead). Although the manager was excellent, the host decided after he left to start speaking in Spanish to her coworker & insulted me (not realizing I speak Spanish). Was careful to not use the common Spanish curse words but did let her coworker know that I was "white washed." Needless to say I'm not going back BUT the food was really good. Pleasantly surprised. At my job the topic of eateries is always common, so when Margaritas was recommended as a place to eat rather than just a place to drink, I was intrigued. Lively, colorful dining room, clean bar and easy parking are strong starting points. Several people provided customer service and everything was on point. If you've been to eastern New England, you may be familiar with the Margaritas Mexican restaurant chain in Boston and New Hampshire. This is not part of the chain. It's independent and more authentic. The decor is festive without being gaudy or loud. As soon as we were seated we were given warm freshly-made chips and a salsa that had just the right kick to it but that I wish had been a little chunkier. The beer list is meager, but Dos Equis Amber on tap did just fine. My entree, the pork carnitas, had a lot of flavor. But it was slightly drier than expected. I was expecting it to look more "pulled" - instead it looked like it was grilled medallions. The side of guacamole was rich and tasty and not filling with large chunks of avocado. Nothing special about the beans and rice. My dining companion wasn't as fortunate with his meal. his pescato veracruz (halibut) was grilled just right and quite tasty. But the side of grilled vegetables was drenched in a sauce which tasted just like A-1. It was definitely off the mark as a side for a Mexican entree just on flavor. We asked the waiter about it, and he said it was a "Mexican sauce." Even if the sauce is made in the kitchen, I'd be willing to bet the primary ingredient is A-1. I came here with a party of five for my friend's birthday. The restaurant does not feel like it's in New York at all; the decor looks great and authentic. We were quickly seated; the restaurant was busy but not packed. The service is very attentive and took our orders right away. I got a strawberry frozen margarita-- delicious and only around $8 (I'm from the city, this would easily be double there). I later had a piña colada that was also delicious. My friends ordered other margaritas and confirmed they were great. I had an oceano burrito (seafood burrito), which was very good and relatively cheap ($15). Came with rice and beans, of course. My friends were also satisfied with the food. The servers also sang a traditional Mexican birthday song when they brought out her cake, which was a lot of fun. The cake and the churros, which my other friend ordered, were flavorful as well. The only hiccup was the check, where they mixed up dividing up the food correctly five ways. They quickly fixed it, though, so I'm not going to hold it against them. Overall a great experience. A large bunch of extremely loud patrons were seated directly in the middle of the restaurant. The party of eight was beyond distracting, to the point where my girlfriend and I had to scream-talk to each other. Various wait staff passed and served them during our mere 30 minute stay, and not once did any employee or manager politely ask the obnoxious group to quiet down. Not to mention that the footprint of Margarita's is relatively small, which only exacerbated the volume. Nasty! Food is down right nasty! Slow night or not I expect fresh food, especially something as cheap as rice that can be made daily. My family ordered everything from rice to the traditional burger, yes they sell burgers. The burger tasted like a cheap no name brand from the frozen food section at supermarket. We ordered our food, I got the chicken with rice and I don't remember what my husband ordered, anyways not even five minutes later they brought the food and i was surprised of how fast they got it. Have been here enough times to right an informed review. I mostly go for lunch, and there's never a wait. The food comes out scary fast! The lunch specials are pretty good, and they are quite flexible (for example; if you get 'combo dos' you can mix and match to get one chicken taco and one beef taco). As others have said, they bring out free chips and salsa right when you sit down. I don't know if they make the chips and salsa inside the restaurant (I suspect they do), but they are NOT generic foodservice items. A solid place, but it doesn't knock my socks off. We got a 32oz margarita (with that name you have to try it) a burrito, a soup and some tacos. At first I though this was a lot. When we got the food we were taken aback. It was so much!!!! The food here was good basic Mexican. Not as flavorful as I hoped. I got the shrimp with a red sauce lunch special that cane with rice and beans. The shrimp were a good size, the portion was fine but I thought it could use a but more flavor (spices, salsa, etc). They do give you free chips and salsa which is nice. Again, pretty basic stuff - nothing too special. My parents and brother enjoyed their food too. Well except for dessert - my mom got something that looked like deep fried wontons - no idea what that was supposed to be and she said it was greasy and inedible. She left more than half of it (and this was after we tried it too - terrible). The reason I'm giving this four stars is the decor. Loved it. The chips were tasty and satisfying. I had ordered the three taco plate as my entree consisting of tacos de carne, al pastor, and pollo (beef, pork, chicken). I had saved my al pastor taco for last, as al pastor anything is my favorite, but I regret that I did. The al pastor taco was easily my least favorite of the three.. it tasted dry and gamey. The steak burrito is wonderful with a side of beans and rice, probably my favorite. We visit this place quite often and have never had a bad meal. The only thing I would give a negative comment on is that the tortilla chips are not the best, not terrible, but not really good. I think they're a little thick and not very tasty. First off, the place is in a strip mall, don't hold that against it. This is the land of strip malls up here. The restaurant is not big or small, but a good medium size. I gotta say that I loved the decor. Real festive and colorful. I especially liked the seat backs. I know that sounds crazy, but go in and take a look at them. I was at the bar, but I think all the seats were of the same style. They've got the usual mexican fare on the menu, but I thought I'd be adventurous here, so I ordered the Margarita's special. This is a dish with grilled fish, shrimp, and octopus. Quite honestly, I expected over cooked dry fish, rubbery shrimp, and inedibly chewy octopus.....I have never been more wrong. The fish was cooked so it was still soft and flaky, the shrimp was not overcooked, and the octopus was actually tender. It was all simply cooked, i.e. not a tremendous amount of spices or anything, but it still had flavor and the cook in back obviously knows how to cook seafood. One of the better seafood experiences I've had in the area. I also had the fried ice cream for dessert, I thought it was a little too sweet due to the syrup they put on it. Also found out that I don't really care for deep fried ice cream in general, would rather just have a scoop of vanilla in a cup. Unfortunately, I haven't been back, but I would give some of their other dishes a chance. read more

Went there with the girls for some lunch. One of my friends said the food was great and service was really fast. So I figured it would be great to go for lunch. We all ordered beef taco salads. I got a beer and one other friend ordered a watermelon margarita since the place is named after margaritas. I tried the margarita and it was way too sweet and tequila-y for my liking. On to the food. We were given complimentary chips and salsa which were great. We just ended up making a huge mess because the salsa was very liquidy. Within two minutes of ordering, the food came. And the place was busy. I was confused but then I understood why it came out so fast. The bowl was 80% lettuce and shredded cheese. The meat was all at the bottom so my bowl fell apart and everything became soggy. I mean the taco salad was okay. Nothing that I couldn't get anywhere. Overall, decor is adorable. Waiters are attentive and adorable. Drinks are okay. Food is okay-good. I wish I had gotten tacos or a burrito to get a better gauge on the food. Prices are very good especially for lunch. read more

I don't hold north-east mexican food to the same standard as the rest of the country. That being said Margaritas is a great new york mexican restaurant. I had the combo plate with a beef burrito, chicken enchilada, and a chile relleno. The burrito meat was a little off but enjoyable. The enchilada was delicious and the chicken was moist. The chile relleno could have been a little cheesier but it was delicious. The rice was super fresh and according to my sister who frequents this establishment it always is. The beans were great too. The salsa they bring to the table with chips was some of the best I've had. I don't like my salsa too too spicy because it overpowers the flavor and this salsa was a great mix of flavor and spice. The waiter was superb. He was attentive and friendly. He spoke english very well so customizing my order was a breeze. When I'm back in Wappingers I will be sure to stop in again. read more

This was the first restaurant I tried in the Wappingers Falls area, and I must say that I was definitely impressed. Margaritas has a very unique ambiance that makes you feel like you are getting an authentic Mexican experience. The food is extremely flavorful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and of course they have bottomless chips&salsa ( A personal MUST for any good Mexican place!). I went here for a quick dinner one night and my boyfriend and I were both starving. We were greeted, seated immediately. The service was fast and wonderful. The menu had tons of options and plenty for my vegetarians (they had a separate vegetarian section on the menu)! We ordered the fajita chicken quesadilla and a veggie burrito. Both were amazing! The chicken was slightly blackened and full of flavor. The guacamole was definitely the best part of the meal and it was extremely fresh. The burrito was the biggest I've ever seen and we barely finished half of it (lunch tomorrow, woohoo!). The average cost per plate was around $12-16 which is pretty typical and worth it for the size of each dish. My favorite part was when we asked for hot sauce and instead of the regular old tabasco or cholula, we were served the "real stuff" that was homemade in a dish. Overall this was a great experience! No way a specially prepared meal can arrive that quickly. No way. I ordered a seafood burrito and I'm still looking for the promised seafood listed in the menu description. When a meal arrives in 300 seconds it can't be hot or fully cooked or very tasty and mine wasn't. What a bummer. Must have been frozen and microwaved. The rice was clumped together and dry. Luckily, I had some of the free salsa that adorns every Mexican restaurant left over, so I poured that on the rice for some moisture. See, the salsa was so thin and feeble that it didn't cling to a chip very well. (My partners meal was similar). Someone wrote that the water kept coming without request. Well, sure. Fits with the general theme: water doesn't require preparation time. Our check was delivered very quickly, processed quickly and we were done with our meal in roughly 30 minutes.
