Very authentic atmosphere and excellent service. I ordered the Asado Burrito combination (slices of steak) and it was excellent. I complemented it with a Mondelo light draft and it too , was excellent. My wife had the Durango combination and she was very satisfied. Our bill came to $43, which was very reasonable. Amazing. Best Mexican around PERIOD. The Queso Dip is ridiculously good, and it seems like they put it on EVERYTHING (which isnt a bad thing). I got the chimichangas, which were delicious. We had never been here despite wanting to try it every time we passed by. We finally did last week, and I was so disappointed. The staff was very kind and welcoming, but their food...I couldn't make it through mine. I ordered the seafood burrito, expecting "succulent" shrimp, scallops and fish, topped with a green salsa sauce. What I got was a soggy tortilla lathered in what looked and felt like mozzarella, filled with those tiny canned salad shrimp, maybe 6 of them; same with scallops. I never tasted "fish", but it sure smelled briney. Add this to the plastic cheesey top; and I just couldn't keep going. The rice tasted old, parts were quite crunchy. My fiance ordered steak and shrimp; and his steak was very bland; seemingly with no seasoning, and cooked way past well done when he asked for medium rare. It looked like leather :( Also, he got 3 small shrimp and stale Rice too. We had high hopes for this place because the ambience is lovely and comfortable, but unfortunately we ended up going hungry, and will not be back. read more

Everything they serve there is FRESH and AUTHENTIC! The tortilla chips they set down on your table are fresh and hot, and the dips are freshly made. Had the tortilla chips with chopped beef (appetizer - but they are so good, I eat them as my main course!) My girlfriend, who is a fussy eater, had something else, that I can not recall, but she was very happy, too. The restaurant was IMMACULATE (including the restroom) and one of the most beautiful small restaurants I have ever seen, with all hand carved and painted furniture! We will be back! read more

Having grown up on the West Coast, I have eaten some great Mexican food during my life. "Margaritas" Restaurant in Wappingers, NY holds a place in my heart and palate right up there with my best that I have had in Mexican Cuisine. Very authentic and home-cooked, including the beans (no canned here) and rice which I have found to be the true test for authenticity in any Mexican restaurant. Chips and homemade salsa are wonderful and plentiful. The shrimp enchiladas and fajitas are to die for. There is a full bar and for $8 bucks you can customize a margarita with your choice of premium tequilas. The atmosphere is quite festive and ambient with lots of color abounding. My only complaint is that the lighting is quite dim, maybe just a bit dimmer than my personal tastes would dictate optimal. The print on the menus is also a little small so make sure you bring your reading glasses if you're not under 40. The dinner prices are probably average for the quality of the dining experience. Specialty items average about $13 to $15 but there are combination plates available for a couple of dollars less. You will get a real bargain if you come for lunch as the portions are the same as dinner but for a few dollars less. read more

We had dinner here a couple of nights ago. A party of six. Although the food was decent the service was not. I completed about 1/3 of my dish and wanted to take the rest home. A woman other than our server cleared the table. I told her I wanted to take the rest home. She didn't answer just proceeded to clear the table. When the waiter brought the check I asked him for my take home box. He said there wasn't any left overs. I proceeded to tell him that I had food left that I wanted to take home. He asked me who cleared the table. I don't know! A woman who works here. So he goes to talk to her I guess and comes back and says she said there was very little left. Just a couple of chips and some sour cream. I told him no, i ate very little. So he actually asked me what I had left on the plate! (It was a sampler plate with lots of different items) Really? A couple of chicken wings. A bunch of chips, some quessidilla, etc. Again he leaves and comes back. We will make you a 1/2 plate if you insist. No keep it! I was insulted that they were questioning me like and doubting me. Like I am trying to get free food? I wouldn't go there again, not a good experience at all. read more

I really laugh when I read some of these reviews - I swear! I keep seeing people say that NY Mexican food should not be compared to Californian Mexican...but are you aware of the huge Oaxacan population in Poughkeepsie and the Hudson Valley? These locally owned restaurants are usually family owned, not like the chains out west so give us a break. With that being said, Margarita's is a perfect blend of delicious ethnic cuisine with a home-cooked feel and electric decor that has a more modern, eclectic feel that adds a perfect basis for the lively (but not overbearing) atmosphere. The food is average priced - I have been to places that have cheaper prices and the same quality of good food but you suffer for it in the decor and atmosphere (and depending on the company with me whilest eating, sometimes that's really important to me). In any event, I was pretty surprised at their appetizer offering and the price of their tortilla soup (chicken tortilla soup for 7 bucks?!? That's insane anywhere). But a staple that I usually enjoy (beans, rice, beef tamale and chicken enchilada con mole) was pretty delicious and enjoyable. Definitely delicious and worth having again - the dessert was DELICIOUS. If you go there, be SURE to have the flan. So delicious, homemade and really top notch. Gourmet tasting without the gourmet price (only $4!) It is very convenient on Rt. 9 and also a great bang for your buck so I definitely recommend! read more

There is a decidedly informal and loud festivity to Margarita's, and if you do decide to go, prepare for some heightened volume (however, if you have fussy kids that you're afraid to take out to dinner, Margarita's might just be your long-awaited salvation). While some of the food here can be mediocre, other dishes are quite tasty. Their chips are delicious - always hot, perfectly salted, and served with zesty salsa. I pretty much always get the Cancun Chimichanga and swap out the meat for veggies (which they are happy to do).Their rice is really good - fluffy and scrumptious. True to their namesake, the restaurant offers an array of Margaritas that are pretty and flavorful. They can be made without booze, but make sure you are very clear about that when ordering. Some of the items can be a bit gloopy (the refried beans, for example). Mostly though, the food is satisfying. They have enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, and even burgers. Their dessert menu is kind of a disappointment, as it consists of only four items (none of which are terribly memorable nor all that fresh). The service is fast and friendly, but there have been times where it was difficult to understand the servers due to their thick accents. They don't always get the order right, and it is important to clearly and deliberately state any special modifications you might want (leaving out an ingredient, making something vegetarian, inquiring about something related to food allergies, etc.). Overall, if you're looking for a high-end, authentic, and sophisticated experience featuring gourmet Mexican food, Margarita's ain't it. BUT if you crave a fun, casual outing filled with fruity drinks, addictive noshes, and some satisfying fare, you would do well to check this place out. Bonus: In spite of Margarita's having a bar, it's actually a wonderful place to bring kids. Sometimes, there's a Mariachi band in full traditional garb that goes from table to table singing. One comment is they could have given us a place for our chips and salsa, rather than having us let it for a woman over the table. My partner and I have not been out to eat since Covid began so this was a very exciting and unplanned visit however it ended up being a very pleasant one. We will be back I am sure of it. Primarily because the food was excellent. I am a good cook and cook often at home and we are both pretty critical of quality of food. This was by far the best experience in this cuisine. It was fresh, hot , flavorful and generous in portion size. The atmosphere was what you would expect in a authentic Mexican restaurant. I did like that the volume of the music being played was appropriate and not overwhelming. Service was friendly, quick and attentive. I didn't particular like the sangria but it was tasty, presented nicely and generous in size. It just isnt how I make mine at home but none the less I did order two so that says something. This is where we come when we want good Mexican food. I have lived in the southwest and this place can hold its own with many of the places out there. We have been here a ton of times and it's always quick service and good food. Some of our favorites are the chicken fajita quesadilla, carne asada plate or any of the shrimp entrees. I'm not quite sure what they do to their fajita chicken but it is deliciously tender and juicy. The chips are hot and fresh and the salsa is superb, we practically drink it. read more

Been to Margaritas about three times and I have always enjoined my experience. Decor is very joyful and the murals on the seats Are beautiful. Whenever my friends and I go we get the fiesta platter that brings a mix of all their appetizers! There plates are very big so be ready to take some food home if you want to have dessert. I usually get the steak with shrimp, beans, salad and rice. Everything is always tasteful and cooked just rite. There are an assorted choice of margaritas I always order the strawberry colada and it's so delicious! For dessert the flan is one of my favorites since I'm very picky of flan sometimes other places it's either too sweet or too plain. We also shared the fried ice cream I believe with honey which we hunger game style at it till it was gone good for three people. My tip is to not eat too much appetizer because you will get full and dessert is the best of course. Recommend this place if you are in wappingers falls and want some Mexican food with great atmosphere! read more

I have lived in NY for 3 years and have been to this restaurant at least 15 times. It's family friendly but if you get the right see you can see the screens near the bar. The chips and salsa are great but be careful not to fill up on them as the portions are generous. The staff is friendly and responsive and the food is always good. If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant that is slightly less casual and a step above that (you know, like if you want to drink or take someone out on a dinner date to impress them or for a special occasion) then this is a good spot. They have their famous margaritas and they don't mess around! The blue moon margarita had me dizzy and heavy headed by the second sip but don't worry, their frozen fruity margaritas are not as hardcore if you're a lightweight. I love their fish tacos and my boyfriend always gets the enchiladas. If you are looking for a nice Mexican place to go out for dinner AND drinks this is the spot for it. read more

We love this place. We first ate here shortly after moving to the area from Arizona. All I can say is that they have the Sonoran style of Mexican food nailed! We have eaten here again and again when ever we get a craving for "back home." The pre meal chips are light, crispy, warm and refillable. The salsa is good and only mildly spicy. If you like a little more heat, just ask, and they will bring out the really good stuff. The refried beans and the rice are exactly as they should be. My wife likes the chimichanga, and what they bring to the table is comparable to what we would get back home. The fish tacos are just like you might expect in the Baja peninsula. I have found nothing like them since moving here. Served with a spicy white sauce, green salsa and shredded cabbage, they hit the spot. Fried ice cream might just be a little "touristy," but our meal is not complete until we've had it. They do it so well, that sometimes we go there just for dessert. My only complaint is that they are not open for breakfast. Their chorizo and eggs are perfect. I have been no place else in the area that gets it right. They should be served starting at 6:00 am. Oh well, I can have a late breakfast when they do open. read more
