I thought it was expensive for the size of empanadas. They tasted fine but not worth the price, in my opinion.

Awesome food! We got a half dozen empanadas (I had 3 and he had 3). They are MORE than enough food for two people to be Completely full and satisfied. He did get an alfajores - which was made with a chocolate cookie. That thing had some serious weight to it! I had a bite. Twas good! I had a slice of the Victoria cake. It's a ricotta cheesecake with a layer of dulce de leche. It had a lemon bite to it, which I LOVED! All the workers were really nice. My boyfriend was hoping that the owner was in (Maria) because he's from Buenos Ares, Argentina. Coincidentally so is the owner! But, she was on vacation. I didn't have any of the coffee but it looked Are all good, and I'm sure it's delish! Seating is nice. They have some little round tables for two, bigger ones for four to six, and then they have a private area that can be closed off by this white curtain. There was a huge event going on when we were there. So they do some hosting for birthdays and things like that I would think. Parking is all street parking and there is a lot of it. You might have to walk a little, but it's not too bad. As per my boyfriends Waze app it said that there was a parking garage about 2 blocks down. So if you don't want to park on the street you can opt for that. Overall a really great find! I know there's another one farther north, but I think this one opened first because it looks a lot nicer! read more

Okaaaay so if you know me you know I'm kinda picky. I don't like anything spicy and I really don't care for most Spanish flavors, I know, what's wrong with me?! Anyway, when my boss wanted to go to Maria Empanada I was wary. It's hard enough for me to find non beef/pork options, but throw in that a lot of Denver thinks delicious=spicy, my options are usually limited. So now that I set my own stage for disappointment, I have to say I was incredibly and pleasantly surprised. First off, this place is beautiful. Lots of natural light and laid out real well. Their available goods are on display and it's super easy to understand what your options are and for me, what I should avoid. The best part: they had SEVERAL things I could choose from. I grabbed a few different chicken/vegetarian empanadas and one of their chocolate covered alfajores. It was all super delicious and now I can't stop thinking about them! read more

The dough wasn't as flaky like I'm accustomed to. The meat filling was just ok and it was also cold. The person who assisted me recommended I get a six pack so I did and I'm sorry to say all of them were cold and umflavorful. I really wanted to like this but I just couldn't get to like the taste. I will not be back. We were starving after an excursion revisiting old shops we used to love on Broadway and going into new ones as well as drinking from breweries. We ducked into one place. An hour wait. Meh. No. Right next door though was Maria Empanada. We got right in and managed to get some food quickly. There is a large case with all kinds of empanadas in it and it took a little bit of consideration as to what Steve and I wanted. I decided to get a spinach empanada and a mushroom empanada. Both were delicious! What is great about this place is that if you are on the go you can dart in here and get something from the case and go or if you want to stay and relax then that is an option as well in a very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. **This review is for the Stanley Marketplace location that just recently opened so probably doesn't even have a Yelp page yet** Okay, so let me just say I am not the "biggest" empanada fan BUT I just became a fan because of this place. One word: DELICIOUS! When you walk up to the windows you choose the flavors that you want and you then one of the servers takes orders and packages them up for you. I found the prices pretty reasonable seeing that even one empanada was pretty filling (I ended up getting two because I couldn't decide between the chicken or the beef) and for less than $10 I had a whole meal. I'm glad I opened up a second location because I'll definitely be coming here a lot more often! read more

If you read the reviews this place consistently has 5 stars. There's a reason for that! The Empanadas are great, I have read a few bad reviews on here and I don't think its because of the empanadas or the place themselves its more so about the flavors. For instance I hate the spinach empanada but its not because its bad its because I hat spinach. The place is always super clean, fast service and has a courteous staff. I used to live in Miami and grew to love empeñadas, so Maria Empanada has been on my list of "must try" places. Today I drove there on my way home. It was actually waay out of my way and it was raining outside. I ordered two empanadas to-go. The staff was friendly and the ambiance cute. However they did not give me the correct order. I was extremely disappointed since I have dietary restrictions and could not even eat the empanada that they misplaced. I am pretty sure the guy even repeated my order and all he had to do was place them in a bag. I paid for the food myself, it should have been accurate. I really love Rincon Argentino in Boulder. But I don't go down to Boulder that often, and making a 45 min trip out there isn't really worth it for me. Maria Empanada on the other hand is only a few blocks from me, and so I decided to try it since I always drive past it. I really liked their mushroom empanada and their Argentina empanada. Very flavorful without the kick. I definitely think this place is my new go to, but I still do love the empanada place in Boulder more, since their empanada is baked fresh and is flakey. read more

Busy restaurant on a rainy day is always a good sign..It more than emphanadas, they offer, grabbed the Spanish Tortilla special after getting an Argentinan food education by one of the counter hosts. It was was rich, filling, not spicy or salty but very tasty, the dipping sauces I tried have NO kick or flavor ..Very weak, I was told that Argentinan food is not known for it. Spinach empanadas were rich with tons of spinach and the bechrmel sauce that's added enhances it... It's a Spinach Lover's Dream.. Next time I will try a dessert. read more

I was on my way down from Keystone CO headed towards Colorado Springs and needed to grab lunch/breakfast (intermittent fasting). I took a look at my favorite food finding app. Yelp and thankfully found Maria Empanada. It's the kind of place that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in the door, complete with LatinX music and a comfortable atmosphere. It also happens that I'm going vegetarian for the month of January and Maria's didn't disappoint! I had a slice of the spinach tarta and ordered a Half Dozen Breakfast Empanadas for later. Everything was absolutely delicious and I only rated them four stars because they charge for salsa and this annoys me to no end. Believe the hype!!! This one has been on the hit list for a couple of years and when my Argentinian mom and Bolivian dad blew into town, well..... it was time! This location is the original on the corner of a bustling Broadway intersection yet when you enter you are greeted by an eager staff who are more than willing to take you through the many delicacies offered, all made from scratch and from recipes handed down through generations. From the many many flavors of empanadas including beef, chicken, steak, caprese, spinach etc to the savory pies, to the facturas and alfajores, there is an empanada for any palate here and they are all as fresh as can be with high turnover which speaks to their popularity. I ordered a dozen empanadas-- classic beef, steak, ham and onion and chicken and there was no weak link. They were all sublime in their own right and the accompanying sauces such as chimichuri, salsa, and chipotle cream were flavorful counterparts to the many fillings. Of special note, they offer a "yerba matte tea service" which my Mom got to try for the first time and it was quite amazing. When I say that the flavor was intense and gamey with a piercing herbal finish, I also mean that I'll be purchasing a set for home use in the not too distant future. To accompany our array of facturas and alfajores my dad and I enjoyed a double espresso made from a semi automatic gargantuan machine that was expertly executed and as I often say...... this art seems to be dwindling as Starbucks button pushers continues to spread its McCoffee plague through the universe........ Unbelievable! We got the Corn, Argentina, caprese, & mushroom empanadas. We originally only got two empanadas, but after the first bite, we realized we had made a mistake. We went back to the counter to get two more LOL. The empanada's are a good size and the dough:filling ratio was perfect. The filling didn't ooze out of the dough and get our hands all messy! They really know how to form these things. The atmosphere is almost like a bakery/cafe but there are some modern looking vases/wall decor and then there's a random (but fun!) little bus/car booth that you can sit in also. The service was fine. You walk up to the counter, order your food, they bring it out toasted if you ask for it, and that's it. The food is the real reason to come here, which is just fine with me. I definitely recommend stopping here if you can. It's SO worth it. I think they'd hold up well if you took them to go too because they're just at room temp when they're sitting and then they're reheated when you dine in. read more

Bakery/coffee shop vibe where you go up to the case and order empanadas, spanish tortilla, and desserts. The savory empanadas were the largest and probably the best I have ever tasted. My favorites were the beef classico and the mushroom. I also loved the Spanish Tortilla! It is a cross between a gratin and an omelette and is edible for any meal any time of day! I also sampled the dulce de leche roll cake, the peach chantilly cake, along with a peach marsala empanada, and a banana nutella empanada (the sweet empanadas are more standard sized as opposed to the huge savory ones). All were equally good in thier own right, just depends on what you like. Counter service was quick, they have a cool futuristic handwashing station by where you pick up your food so you don't have to go into a skeezy public bathroom. The dining area is self bussing and no one was going around to wipe tables so I thought it was a little dirty. Fortunately we came with kids and we brought sanatizing wipes but we shouldn't need that for a clean table. Super grateful for Maria Empanada. I'm Nicaraguan and I'm always looking for Central American & South American flavors and this place always hits the spot! I was a fan before COVID and enjoyed their dining area but now they have outside seating, perfect as the weather is finally getting warmer. Their empanadas have delicious flavors and sauces. We ordered a dozen to go on Easter weekend. Had a small picnic outside with two other people and this was our meal. It's the perfect food for a picnic and though small, still filling! Their chorizo breakfast empanada is one of my favorites, as is the chicken chimichurri and any special or limited edition flavor. It is on the pricey side though, they run about $3-4 each. We got a dozen empanadas which cost us about $60. Again, it was for a special event so not everybody will be ordering a dozen every time but highly recommend everyone try one! I'm a proud supporter of one of the best local business stories ever to come out of Denver.
