The restaurant is located at the ocean end of Santa Monica pier, so the location is top notch. The restaurant itself looks like it's seen better days. We asked to be seated outside, the male person who seated us was not rude but not friendly either. I almost feel like I was being sized down- not a good feeling but I brushed it off. Our server was good, our food came pretty promptly, drinks were refilled, and water was brought when we asked. The food was so-so. I ordered a shrimp dish that was drowned with garlic and butter- loved it! But the dishes everyone else ordered was just ok. We do not recommend the tuna poke (should have known better than to order poke at a Mexican restaurant). The salsa was good, but the chips were kinda stale. Would I go back? Maybe, but only if we were too far to go to a different Mexican restaurant or if I really just want to enjoy drinks with a view. read more

The potato tacos tasted so fresh, and I loved their tea. I believe their crunchy tortillas are made fresh just because of how they tasted. The guacamole salsa was light, and I feel like everything complimented each other in my meal. I recommend sitting outside if you're looking to feel like you're blending into the scenery. read more

Ahh yes the sweet smell of saltwater in the air... the beautiful sun upon your face when it's 70 degrees out... a beautiful day to walk upon the final destination of Route 66, or the beginning however you look at it. Yes the Santa Monica Pier, classic spot for decades here in L.A. Boasting a roller coaster, Ferris wheel, an arcade, and a plethora of little shops and restaurants. Well located at the end of pier is Mariasol, a little Mexican restaurant that we decided to divert from the crowds and venture in. Seated right away, noticing the ambiance and decor, don't expect much here it is run down and quite frankly, old. This is painful for me because in such a nice spot here in Los Angeles, Santa Monica more precisely, you'd expect to see something lively and nice and ready to please. Sorry Mariasol, that is not the case. It took over 10 minutes once we were seated to get a server and they weren't busy in the slightest, and when we did get a sever, please don't let my sitting upon your section of the restaurant you work at persuade you from cracking the slightest of smiles or pleasantries. Most is the staff just seems irritated by their being here, which takes me out of my dining experience. But here is why they get 3 stars, the food. Yes the food was very good, we ordered beef taquitos & the trio fajitas with Chicken, Shrimp, & Asada. Very tasty fajitas, and yet once again, they give us 3 tortillas, ok to make 2 tacos each we would need 4 tortillas, ok, took like damn near 10 minutes with people says it around staring at us not giving a F, then here comes our server, ok he brings us 3 more tortillas, Damn man bring 4 so we each make a couple tacos, whatever we finished it and like I said it was good, service, not so much, ambiance, nasty, and the bill? $60 damn dollars. I think the coolest thing about this place is that it's at the. End of the pier. I think that's why they charge so much. I came here for lunch with a girlfriend of mine. The place was pretty packed but we didn't have to wait for a table. We were in the sun but we didn't have a view of the water. It's a place for tourists. Our wait staff was kind. We had many margaritas (pretty good ones too!) and I got the enchiladas. The food was good. It's not authentic Mexican food but I enjoyed it. I gave it three stars because it's pretty average. Nothing stood out but nothing was bad either. If I'm on the pier and I'm hungry I'll probably stop by again but I also wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

Came here for lunch with my friends and had a great time! Yes, it IS a little touristy, but it's at the end of the pier and that's to be expected. The quantity and the quality of the food was superb. Definitely one of the most flavorful mexican experiences I've ever had. The food portions were huge and I recommend trying the nachos for appetizers. I also ordered a glass of horchata and added tequila and Kailua; excellent flexibility with the menu. It CAN be a crowded there at times and so I'd be prepared for maybe a 15-20 minute wait and if you can call-in ahead, I'd do so. My boyfriend has this habit of making me go to the most touristy restaurant possible whenever on a pier or beach, so, we ended up here. We were seated quickly at one of the outside tables but I immediately regretted that decision, even with the nice view. Birds and droppings everywhere which made me seriously question the cleanliness of this place. For lunch I had the Crispy Tacos with shredded beef. Not only did the beef have literally no flavor but the salsa quemada had this overly funky mole flavor that I was not a fan of. The rice and beans tasted straight out of Taco Bell. Boyfriend had the Baja Fish Tacos and those were also flavorless. Honestly, for how much money we spent, I could have gotten literally two platters of food at Taco Bell and been much happier. 2 stars for the view and our nice waiter. read more

This is a fun touristy spot on the edge of the Santa Monica pier, can't get better views than here! My gal pal in town from CO and I went for drinks when she got into town. It was a bit chilly and windy this night so being inside with a great view while protected from the wind was really nice. We ordered a bloody and a michi, both were super tasty! Very disappointing, service was extremely slow. Drinks were expensive. Server asked if we would like more chips. I asked for more water and chips. Water arrived chips did not. This place is a godsend at the end of the boardwalk! You just have to walk past a bunch of gross carnival food to get to a restaurant worth spending money on. I got the table-side guacamole which I finished all of (def enough for 2-3 people) - heads-up they don't pepper if you want that. I also got a mojito and the Salmon Tropical - delicious glazed salmon with mango salsa, a creamy corn salad, and rice. It's the perfect serving size for lunch! Also the service staff are all lovely. This is surely a Santa Monica pier novelty. One of three-ish sit down restaurants featured along the walk, and set in beautifully right at the end of the pier. Beyond that, it's really nothing more than just an average experience you'd find at a typical chain restaurant. The experience: A friend of mine was in visiting California for the first time. As he was seeing the Pier for the first time, he wanted to take in the food fare in the area so he chose here. We were sat outside immediately in the back where it was quiet, well heated with torches, and a nice ocean-side atmosphere. Our waiter Leonardo or "Leo" was friendly and chatty. He asked us about our day, our plans for the evening, he was casual and funny, and even gave us nightlife recommendations. However, after our initial service, he quickly became more interested in flirting with the female customers next to us rather than serving us, refilling our water, or even bothering to notice that we never received utensils. So in general the service started off great but went downhill fast. The food: Average to say the least. The table-side guacamole was on point, though. I ordered the shredded beef crunchy tacos, and my friend got some burrito dish which he claimed was cold by the time it reached the table. Neither of us finished our dishes and had no interest in bringing them home. I said it before, but this place is just an overpriced tourist experience. Super fun place to go lots to do and lots of little shopping places on the pier but at the very back there is this cozy mexican restaurant that looked so cool inside we just had to grab a couple tacos for lunch. I had chicken tacos and ordered the salsa trio its 3 different kinds and one of them is Habanero and its good and hot. They got a nice cozy bar and a couple of big lobster tanks to choose your meal from and then they ring the bell its really cool a must go if you visit. read more

This place is in a great location, right in the edge of the Santa Monica pier. My friend really wanted to go here but I could just tell that this was going to be pretty generic Mexican food. We sat outside so we could see the ocean. We had a great waiter (Gustavo) and we opted for just drinks and table side guacamole. The guacamole is made fresh and they bring out tortilla chips and salsa. The watermelon horchata was too sweet for my taste. I know it's not their fault but the pigeons made the experience pretty unpleasant. They were constantly flying all around us, landing on tables and eating fallen food. I didn't actually try any of the Mexican food as we went somewhere else for more authentic tacos but it certainly looked pretty generic. Overall an okay place but not a "cant miss" spot in Santa Monica unless your dying to sit on the pier and eat. read more

Great little Mexican restaurant located on the Santa Monica pier. We were sat right away and were able to have outdoor seating, right on the pier with a great view. They had a great selection of Margaritas and they were very potent and tasty. They start you off with fresh chips and salsa. We ended up just getting the loaded nachos. The portion was not small and was layered nicely with refried beans, salsa, guacamole and cheese. We added chicken as well. This place is garbage. We are from San Diego so we know Mexican food! Honestly, Taco Bell is more authentic than this place! Prices are ridiculous especially when you are serving canned refried beans and "avocado sauce" that tastes like grass instead of guacamole! The only thing this place has going for it is location. Well I decided to take my mom out for a walk on the pier on a Tuesday evening. We were a bit hungry and decided to start just randomly looking for a tasty place to get food at. We had reached the end of the Pier and low and behold we run into Mariasol. There was 5 min before they were about to close (7pm) and they unbelievably let us in to seat us. I was worried they would be upset but there was more people coming in after us also. Well... my mom and o decided to sit at a table outside and one server was a little rude to us asking who let us in and I was very confused at his approach because he made us feel super unwelcome .... UNTIL... one server named Christopher came to our table to assist. Christopher V is a great server and fully respects his customers. He proved to show an excellence of customer service unlike the other server. After getting our drinks, we had another server named Montano who came and take our order. Montano was a very respectful and attentive server. The only reason I'm taking one star off is because they need to extend the restaurant hours beyond closing at 7pm. Besides that FANTASTIC customer service on behalf of Christoper V and Montano. I will be coming back to visit this place again and will make sure to let my homies know to come check it out also. read more
