Decided to try here on a recommendation from a tour guide. My boyfriend got the super burrito (which is what the tour guide recommended) and I got a chicken enchilada and a happy hour taco with beef for $3. My boyfriend thought the burrito was filling and the flavor was good. Mine on the other had no flavor. It was like they had forgotten to add salt. The taco shell seemed freshly made but it was really oily. Service wasn't that great either. We were waiting for our check for a bit. read more

There are not enough words in the english dictionary to describe how horrendous this place was. I had a craving for mexican food and all the other GOOD places weren't open so we settled on for this restaurant. My nachos were sad and soggy, the guacamole was completely oxidized and tasted store bought (so did the salsa!) The quality of the food is so, so, so bad I wouldn't wish this food upon my worst enemy. I ordered Al Pastor tacos and started gagging midway- it had a strange after taste. Good food, we were super full but we also ordered a bunch of food. Bad service from our female waitress (rosy) the only one, the rest of the crew was very helpful. We ordered a mixed fajita plate but only got beef and chicken, I guess she forgot the shrimp, we would of paid the extra charge for the shrimp but there is no faith in the Hispanics, even coming from another Hispanic. Overpriced nachos for what you get. Ceviche was delicious, but we had to take it to go because everything came at once. Homemade tortillas are Bomb, but we only got two and one flour. Had to wait for another order of tortillas, but I had to go a physically order them at the bar because our waitress was never back to see us. I went to give this place 3 stars, and then I hovered over 2 stars and saw "Meh. I've experienced better" and realized that is exactly how I feel about this place. I agree with some of the other Yelpers that if you're looking for good Mexican food in Kauai, that's an issue in itself. It's not Southern California, nor Mexico, obviously. The Mexican food is not going to be amazing. However, this place really sold that image. With a colorful store front and inside, Mexican flags everywhere, Spanish-speaking employees, and a vibrant vibe, it draws you in from the street. It looked like your typical Mexican restaurant, like one that I've had delicious Mexican food at. Our waitress was nice and sat us quickly, but as soon as I took a look at the menu, I was already disappointed. $11 for a enchilada or burrito. That's crazy in itself, but I figured since we were in a touristy part of Kauai, maybe the overpriced-ness was called for. We all ordered our food and waited. We were careful with our chips and salsa because, unlike other Mexican places, after one basket, we had to ask for extra and would be charged. Sigh. Our food came and we all were starving so we had at it. My enchilada was two stars - I've experienced better. And for cheaper. Our waitress then went MIA and didn't refill our waters until our meal was practically over. I looked around the place and noticed everyone there was very obviously a tourist and fell like we fell right into a tourist trap. Oops. Our bad. This place is not terrible. The food is okay, the ambience is pleasant, and everyone was nice. However, the prices are far from worth it, and waitstaff were slacking a bit, and I might just be a tad bitter that we fell for such a tourist trap. I'd suggest this place for drinks, as I believe I saw a happy hour menu, but nothing more. Go to the taco bus off to the right and save a few bucks for (probably) better food. Stopped in on way to airport for lunch. Had chips and salsa that were good. The al pastor was amazing. The california burrito, authentic. The fish tacos were great!!. Mariachi's offers a vegan fajita that is the bomb. On our second time here I had the foresight to ask the chef to use a minimal amount of oil and it was even better than our first time. There are other items on the menu that could easily be adapted for a vegan diet. Make sure ask for their homemade hot sauce to supplement the mild salsa! read more

the website says "open till 9!" we arrived at 8:45 pm and the outside seating was lively and folks seemed to be having a nice time! when we walked up to the counter and asked for table... 4 staff members looked at each other ... one holding a dyson and shook their heads no!!! If your restaurant is posting open till 9 then why not seat us ??? we had driven in from Wainiha just to eat here! checked the website and figured we had plenty of time... had some traffic but 8:45 is not 9!!!! so if we had been there at 8:30 would there have been a group discussion about whether to seat us at 8:30? believe me we will be sharing how we were treated with anyone that will listen! Not bad for Mexican food in Kauai. I mean, I live in Southern California, so I'm a snob about real Mexican food. The food made lean towards the gringo side but the drinks were PERFECT! Funny to see chickens walking around inside the restaurant, but when you're on this island you get used to it. Very friendly staff and nice decor. read more

I am not sure why this place is only rated 3 stars. I hesitated to go in there for that same reason, but i am so glad I did decide to try it because their food is AMAZING, 100% AUTHENTIC ! Sat at the bar for drinks and dinner, we absolutely got zero service. We asked several different people for menu's, water, cocktails etc. They all acted indifferent, as if it was an imposition. It wasn't even that busy. Had a Mai tai & a blue hawaiian, obviously both made with cheap mixers, not good at all. Ordered a wet style bean & cheese burrito for $10.95, beans were tasty, but it was not served with any sour cream or guacamole. The watermelon margarita was good and can't go wrong with a beer. BUT the food was subpar. I was expecting a Mexican restaurant with filling food. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 drinks, never were checked on and left to ourselves. We would have ordered more drinks and entrees but nobody ever came back. Had an amazing experience here. I normally don't trust Mexican food that hasn't been made my my family or myself... especially since going vegan. My family and I got off of an exhausting flight hungry as I don't know what and ordered veggie fajitas (something I don't often see on a menu). Let me just stop to say that it is so rare for a traditional Mexican restaurant to have a clear veggie menu that doesn't need to be changed at all. There were OPTIONS. The fajitas were hands down the best vegan Mexican food I've had to date at a restaurant. I say this because there were no cop outs. No vegan cheese to attempt to make up for anything or rely on a company to translate flavor, no excessive seasoning, no processed fake crap, they simply didn't need it. The tortillas were clearly handmade and sooo delicious, we were all full halfway through... but it was the sort of food that just made us keep eating. Rosy, the manager, was so generous and kind.. she made us feel right at home. We were so happy when Chef Enrique came and brought out our food himself... meeting him was a real treat. Thank you all for such an unexpectedly wonderful time in Kauai :) We won't forget you anytime soon and we will for sure be back if we visit the island again!! Overall great experience. Staff followed COVID protocol and we felt safe while dining. Food proportions were spot on, and everyone was satisfied with their order. Terrible service. The busboy did more of the job than the waiter. Waiter was busy watching tv by the bar. Food took ages to come out, not hot when it came. So it was probably sitting back there because our waiter was lazy. I had an empty beer for almost a half hour. Would have had more to help suffer through the poor service, but the waiter never checked on us once after he brought food by. Also the carne asada was terrible, seems like discount meat from the Safeway. Not even a normal carne asada cut or flavor. When you spend that much money, you hope they can cook better than you do at home. But the food was mediocre.. what a waste of a meal on Kauai. I ordered the combo plate- enchilada and chile rellano with a side of rice and beans. They were accommodating, added vegetables to my enchilada and changed my refried beans to vegetarian black beans. They serve chips and salsa while you wait to order. Food was average, at best. I've had better bottled salsa! We also ordered fried ice cream and was disappointed that it wasn't crispy!
