Have you ever wanted a dining experience with a server who chooses not to speak? If so -- this place is for you. Want a server that does not say hello, or greet you in any way? How about a server that points at you and grunts, indicating that it is time for you to order? If any of these things speak to you, knock yourself out and try this place which claims to be the "best Mexican on Kauai". Overall, the food was not bad, but not great -- just fine. We sat at the bar and had one of the rudest bartenders I have ever had. Ignored us, showed slight disrespect, overcharged us and screwed up the bill, and that was it. This local Mexican joint has great food and service! The staff were really friendly and attentive, and the food was prepared quick and hot. I enjoyed the ceviche (happy hour size) as an appetizer, along with the chicken mole enchiladas as the main. Definitely check it out if you're in Kapa'a. read more

The atmosphere is nice and we sat by the doors so there was a nice breeze that flowed through. The man that served us the first round of water and drinks was quick with it. The waitress was a little slower with refilling water. We kept finishing our waters before she came around and we had to ask at one point for refill water. So I was a little thirsty the whole night. Our enchiladas were good. It's what'd you expect for a restaurant, rice and beans of course which was good. The rice wasn't dry, and the beans were topped with cheese. The carne asada fries were thick cut and not just crumbled steak, they were small cuts of steak which is great. The ceviche was such a big plate, if you added chips or tortillas, you could probably make that a meal in itself. read more

So we stumbled upon this place while we were walking around kapaa. It said best margaritas in town. So we went in and ordered 2 Cadillac margaritas. It was delicious. The chips and salsa were too bland for me. We added salt and pepper to the chips, and Tapatio to the salsa, it helped a little. We also ordered the taquitos, way too small, barely any meat in it for the price, so skip it if you're hungry because it won't get you full. With that said we also ordered the pulpo tacos. That was delicious. We should've just doubled up on that and avoided the tiny taquitos. So if you're in the mood for a margarita stop in. And try some exotic tacos. They go well together. read more

Got a great table when we first arrived for lunch. Not many people in here so usually that ups the customer service. Our server seemed pretty peeved I'd say almost the entire time he served us. I even tried to be extra pleasant and nice to see if I'd get maybe a happier server, but my efforts were unsuccessful. First, chips and salsa at lunch are complimentary only for the first basket then an additional $2 for each basket after that... Kind of a bummer because love our chips and salsa... We both ordered the pick two for $11.99 each. I got the enchilada and a ground beef taco. The food was actually really good. We got the verde sauce on our enchiladas and it was pretty tasty!!! Margaritas.....$$$ and bleh! Sat near mixing station and could see that they were made with basic mixers and cheap alcohol. In fact, one of the margaritas was nothing more than a premixed store bought concoction. Extremely disappointing!!!! read more

The Best Salsa and The Best Flan!!! My mom really enjoyed the Chile Colorado, she said it was delicious!! The staff was also very nice!

Great happy hour deals! Nothin better than shots and drinks after a long day. Interesting presentation on the wings but it was 5$ so cant be expecting that much. Gotta say the ceviche and quesadilla were a hit! read more

We received a warm welcome and quick service at Mariachi's. I ordered the delicious Mariachi Sunrise. Unfortunately my friend ordered a strawberry margarita that didn't taste like any strawberry margarita she has had in the past. She complained. Their excuse was it is blended and you can't taste the alcohol. There was no explanation for why it didn't taste like a margarita. My friend wanted to return it and get a mojito. They explain she would be paying for both drinks even though she clearly was not happy with the strawberry margarita. At this point we will avoid Mexican food restaurants in Kauai. read more

There seems to be an increasing trend in Kapaa...what's the absolute lowest bar that can be set while simultaneously offering the most awful live music experience possible. Mariachis takes the cake. I suggest sitting away from the bar if you speak Spanish, because the wait staff is vulgar and talks poorly about the clientele. Let's just start with food service professionalism.....don't suck on push pop candy while taking orders and pouring beer. No joke. I love the tamarind sour push pop treat as much as any ten year old Latino, but not at work and literally while pouring a drink. Disgusting. How about returning the change on a paid tab almost fifteen minutes afterwards. I signaled a waiter three times and finally, had to yell in Spanish, GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY SO I CAN LEAVE. Yet again, a reviewer wished they could leave negative stars....you guys SUCK. read more

Food: 4 ( but not what I would call "authentic" Mexican. More "common American Mexican restaurant") Top Shelf margarita: 5 - now this was more authentic, no sour mix here! Service: 3 - the host basically pointed to a table and threw 2 menus down on it. Then it was not clear as to whom was actually our server. A total of three people took orders and served various things to us. I had the Mariachi's chimichanga with shredded beef. Was tasty, but nothing spectacular. Very standard chimi. My husband had the Mariachi burrito with shredded beef. He said it was good, but very basic. We would have stayed for another drink or a shot of tequila had we'd been enjoying the environment or the service had been a little more engaging.... but we opted to leave and buy our own tequila and beer :P We'll probably try other Mexican restaurants in the area before going back here. From the moment we walked in I knew this place was going to be good!!! We were immediately seated with a great view of the comings and going's of the street. Our waitress brought out our menus and water, chips & salsa right away. The chips were fresh and the salsa was delicious and not too spicy. I ordered the combination chicken taco and bean & cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. The portion sizes were great! My daughter is vegetarian so she was happy to see there were many vegetarian choices on the menu. The waitress was attentive and friendly. My girls loved the flan! The prices were average-high but not more than any other restaurant in the area. This was the best Mexican food we've had in Hawaii!!! read more

I never leave reviews, but I just have to for this place. My friends and I walked in fooled by the signs and outside. Awful service, rude, slow, confused, taquitos turned to dust in my mouth, why did they have carrots on them??? Got 1 chip and a drop of salsa for $7. And they neglected to give our change back and got annoyed when we asked. We also have like 7 different servers. The taquitos were $6 for 6 microwaved taquitos smaller than your pinky finger. Not sure why this place only has 2.5 stars. I am from San Diego and I know good Mexican food, this tastes like home. Our waitress was so sweet and let us eat 10 minutes before the kitchen closed! The food wasn't great, the service was the real killer. When our waiter came by, he seemed a little surly. It went downhill from there. At one point, I asked if they had spicy salsa. He nodded yes, and then after a good 10 or 15 minutes, he walks by and plunks down (like plunks then down hard on the table) 2 squirt-bottles of salsa -- no dish to put them into for the chips, and we didn't have our plates yet. He walked off before we could ask anything. The rest of the evening, we got next to no service. At one point the guy actually stepped outside and was texting. When he would walk by our table, he would turn his head the other way. Our drinks would go dry, and eventually a different server would help out. Meanwhile, the food was really bland, and the one mixed drink we ordered (vodka tonic) was so weak that we could not tell whether there was even any vodka in it at all -- and we payed for good vodka. In Kauai June 2019 and found this Mexican Restaurant. Really yummy food very authentic! Drinks are well made and my husband purchased a shot of tequila and was VERY happy with the portion given. If your in Kauai you need to try this place. Staff was very helpful, too! Definitely coming back!! read more

I came here with my partner and were promptly greeted, they were very informative about the menu and since my partner and I are vegan, they went out of their way to help us choose an option for us. Flora was our bartender and server the first time we went. The second time was Rosi, they were both amazing and friendly and made us feel so welcome. This is the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Do yourself a favor and just drive to tiki tacos right down the road. We were seated quickly as we came when it was dead. The server seemed more interested on hitting on a girl than taking our orders. I had a chicken quesadilla that was smothered in sauce you couldn't taste anything but the sauce. We should have known after reading reviews where the owner only responds to people who rated her place highly. However, after working a 10 hour day at Walk MS Kauai, this was open and right across the street so we went. Food flavors were VERY disappointing. Chile Colorado had no flavor. The meat for the carne asada quesadillas was hard and chewy. And it was the worst top shelf margarita I have ever had. It's beyond me why I didn't send it back. Our waiter was pleasant but this is definitely not the best Mexican on the island as we later had Paco's Tacos and their fish tacos were amazing. One of our party is from southern California where they know what good Mexican is and she also thought it was sub-par to say the least. Cute open air place that might draw in tourists but if you're reading this, let me spare you a bad meal. read more

Drove by a few times this week, as we are visiting and finally decided to stop in for dinner. WOW - outstanding decision! Great food and great service!! As we walked in, I asked Junior for a recommendation. He said, "Have the molé." Comfort food at its best! Then to top it off, they make their own tortillas!!! What? In Hawaii?? Yum! My wife had the grilled mahi tacos - she loved it. My son had carne asada. Again, he devoured it. Absolutely the most underrated restaurant on Kauai. Locals and Haole tourists (or Gringos) should try this restaurant. read more

We just went to happy hour at Mariachi's. We usually have Cadillac Margaritas when we eat Mexican food. We just needed a little to eat and something refreshing to drink. They did not have Cadillacs on the Happy Hour menu so we just went with their Happy Hour margarita. We also ordered some Nachos. Kauai is not know for their Mexican food and we are from California where we have amazing Mexican food. The margaritas were tasty and the nachos were really good. The service was also very good. Rosy greeted us and was very pleasant taking our order. Alvero brought us our drinks and food and was very pleasant and thoughtful. All in all it was a very nice stop on our day out and about on Kauai. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. They brought us a tiny basket of chips for four of us and never refilled it. Our loaded nachos were cold. They must have been sitting in the window a while. That's the waitress's fault. She brought us a glass of water when we sat down and never asked us if we wanted anything else to drink plus she never filled our water glasses. Finally, the food had no flavor at all!
