Best mexican restaurant I have had. My boyfriend and I try Mexican food everywhere we go and we never find one that we like enough to go back to. The staff here was nice and family oriented and you can tell they serve authentic mexican food. Their salsa was great if you want an extra spice on your food but the food was so good I didnt want to mess with it. My boyfriend is full Mexican and was able to speak Spanish with the workers it was nice to see actual Spanish speakers in a restaurant. Something we rarely find. Ugh. The food here was some of the worst we've ever had. It was dry, small portions, bad presentation. The margaritas were warm, like they had just been been poured out of a pre made bottle of mix onto ice and served- an overly sweet sugary warm drink was not was I wanted on a hot subtropical kind of day :( On top of it, the service wAs really slow even though there was no one in there. I saw the poor reviews on Yelp but the group wanted to go here anyway. I had the ground beef burrito. I thought it was the worst burrito I have ever eaten. It had absolutely zero flavor to it. It was served dry so I tried dumping the salsa they bring out with chips on it to try to make it a bit more appealing - didn't work. To top it off they served us beers in these large heavy glass chalices which they claimed were 24oz. When called out on the size the waiter admitted the glasses were only 20oz.. I guess they think most people will be fooled because the glass is so heavy. Such a shame because this is a great location and the open air seating make this a great place to hang out. Maraiachis does not deserve to advertise as the "Best Mexican food in Kauai". They have NO idea what good Mexican food is. I ordered a burritto with beef fajita and I got a plain a** burritto with fajita meat and pico...no sauce, no rice and beans, nothing. Bland and so blah. What a waste! Service was lazy and slow. Don't waste your money here. So many better places to eat in Kauai. Stick with seafood. read more

"Burrito" is a tortilla filled with just meat, and a small plop of guacamole and pico. No rice, no beans, no cheese, no sour cream, $13+. You're better off going to Taco Bell. You would expect a place that serves only meat in the burrito could get it right, but I had a nice stomach ache about 15 mins after eating 70% of the burrito. My wife had the Mahi Mahi tacos and they managed to find the only non-fresh fish on the island. They were fishy smelling and stomach ache inducing. My homie came from Oahu to vist me in Kauai and brought his service dog with him...I have never eaten at this spot before don't ask me why especially since I live in Kauai...We went inn and asked the manager if we could bring his dog in cause it was too hot to leave her in the car and they said yes just show us the service certificate so that was a huge plus for us...We ordered the mexican style shrimp cocktail it was perfect and big enough to share between the 2 of us...Fully stocked bar and really good salsa...Definitely recommend this place!!! read more

This is going to be a short one. Don't go here. Walked in around 7:30 PM and stood in the doorway. Bartender looked at us, a few of the wait staff passed by without acknowledging us. I asked a waitress if we should seat ourselves. She said hang on, went somewhere, came back then seated us. We sat down and got chips and salsa immediately. The salsa was pretty subpar but we were hungry. Waited 5 minutes, then 10, no one came by to give us water, take a drink order or anything else. We looked around and almost no one had food, a few had drinks. We watched one couple walk out putting their menus on the bar on their way out. We waited about 3 more minutes then split. Very poor service, sub-par food, and extremely expensive. Came here with my friend for lunch. I got a burrito and he got enchiladas (2). We both had 1 margarita each, and left splitting a $60 tab. The quality of the food is NOT worth that price, and the margarita was terrible. The worst service I've ever experienced. Waiter made a mistake on all but one of our 4 orders. When I finally ordered something else (since he couldn't get my burrito correct), it look literally 25 minutes for them to bring me 2 tacos. It took so long I cancelled and stormed out. It was rediculous. They weren't busy. Only one other table. No excuse for this service. The food was sub par and the refried beans were really bad. My sons nachos were only a few chips with a little bit of half melted cheese on some of them. They then charged me $100. I usually tip over 20%, but didn't leave one dollar this time. 5/30/17 We decided to try this place because it boasted the best happy hour on the island. Happy hour is from 2-5pm, earliest I've seen so far. $5 for a 22oz draft beer. I ordered the daily lunch special. Choice of 2: enchilada, tamale, tostada or taco with rice and beans. I love tamales and these were great! Bf got the chips and salsa, happy taco and fish taco. Chips and salsa were good; the tacos were kinda small but they were happy hour menu items after all. We sat on the high tables in the front where we felt the breeze coming through. We ate here for lunch. The service was fast and the food was awesome. I got the 5 taco option. 2 chicken 2 steak and 1 carnitas. I think the chicken was the best but they were all delicious and topped with a generous amount of guacamole which was also onolicious. Hubs got the taco salad with shredded beef and he really liked it. I also liked the flavor of their salsa. Not that spice but still had a good flavor not just tomato-ey. I'd eat here again! Stopped by for some happy hour drinks and a late lunch. I was a bit nervous due to the mixed reviews. I am Mexican and my husband and I are very picky about Mexican restaurants, many of the ones that are popular among our friends just don't cut it for us. I have to say this place was really good! Really enjoyed ourselves at Mariachi's! So much in fact we returned that night with the whole extended family group of 29 and the restaurant staff did a stupendous job. When we left our homes in Alaska it was -26F so we were in high spirits already being in Kauii. My Mexican bride wanted to try a local Mexican place for lunch and there are many to choose from. She loves Mariachi bands so she went with the name. To her delight they had televisions so she could watch the Patriots' football game she was missing. (She's a football nutcase) The owner greeted us warmly and she and her brother being from Chihuahua, Mexico had friendly and spirited banter with the staff. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere so much we made reservations for 29 for that night. Bottom line is we liked Mariachi's a lot. The place is lively and noisy enough that all our grandchildren weren't disruptive to other diners. The service was good, the food was good and we had two enjoyable meals that day. read more
