I would like to give this store a higher rating, but their cashiers as a whole are incredibly slow and apathetic. Also, watch the prices noted on the shelves and what rings up at the register. Every couple of weeks we see an error, and the cashiers get upset that we call it out and it has to be checked. Buyer beware when it comes to their fish. We've bought fresh fish at this Mariano's a couple of times and have pretty much always been on the fence about it. The selection is small; the prices are high. Well, a couple of weeks ago they had salmon on sale, so I spent around $35 on a good sized piece planning on making it for dinner the following night and then freezing the rest. Well, our plans changed and so we cut it into portion-sized pieces and put it in the freezer. We took a piece out of the freezer a week or so ago, cooked it and it tasted a bit funky. We figured it was the marinade. I took another piece out yesterday and this time, I smelled it after it had thawed. It smelled not quite right but not really bad either, so I cut of a chunk and cooked it, sure enough it was funky. I will definitely never buy meat there again. And since it's been a few weeks, I know I can't return it even if I was able to find the receipt as we threw away all the packaging when we portioned and froze it. read more

Honestly, I've been to Mariano's all over the Chicago-land area, and this one is by far the worst. Disorganized and rude management, messy aisles, and stale bread. Worst of all, my grandmother slipped on spilled olive oil that has clearly been unattended to. It'll be worth it to go the extra four miles to go to the one in LincolnWood. read more

Service is good and you can find all of your grocery items easily, more tasting stations would be nice throughout the week as well as a pianist. It would be nice to have more ethnic foods from all regions. With it spacious aisles more items can be placed. Obviously it is more expensive than other grocery stores but you have the confidence that the meat and seafood is fresh. read more

I must go to some pretty wonderful grocery stores if people think Mariano's customer service is great. I don't even know where to start. I feel like I'm moving in slow motion in this place. It takes 7 minutes to get one meat product from the butcher with no one in line in front of me. I stand at the kitchen waiting 10 minutes for a pizza. But worst of all is the checkout line. Not only slow, but disgusting. Yes, please sneeze into your hand and then grab my produce to ring it up. That's a great idea. I am disgusted. Produce is also wilted and not fresh at 10AM. Super slow in turning over the produce. Disappointed, I'm going back to Jewel. Only redeeming quality is the pan pizza is delicious. read more

I was so excited to hear Marianos was opening close to my home. And I have been disappointed almost every single time I shop there. I try to go elsewhere whenever I can, but this is the closest grocery store to my home. I've had everything from spoiled fish to severely under-trained staff to out of stock on basic ingredients. And today (and not the first time this has happened, by any means) a $20 bouquet of flowers that was clearly past it's time as the petals began falling off as soon as I removed the packaging. So....I've been away from Illinois for awhile. When I heard that Dominicks had left the Chicagoland area, I was a bit dissappointed. However, most of them were bought by a slew of Marianos branches. Marianos is about 10000000 times better than Dominicks ever was. They have so many different types of options and prepared foods available. You want to learn how to cook...well why...you don't even NEED to with Marianos. The meat is fresh...the produce is great...they have tons of organic foods and other types of international fare. I love this place and its location. Customer service here has always been excellent, it's very clean and very organized at all times. It's also huge and they've always had everything I need. My favorite thing about Mariano's is the grill, any meat, poultry or fish you buy they will throw it on the grill for you for free. My food was cooked to perfection all while I finished the rest of my shopping, now that's convenience! I highly recommend their fresh squeezed OJ and all their other juices, their prices are great too. read more

First, I must say that this Mariano's just opened and I have only been there three times. Every time, it was a complete and total mob scene where I could not move the cart or walk through the store and it seemed like everyone brought their whole family or at least a date. Really??? The last time I was there, Sunday the 2nd of November around 1:30, which I know is a busy shopping time, I tried to get to the deli counter and by the time I was maneuvering around the 12th person, decided to abandon ship. The first time I was there, the second week after Mariano's opened, the employees were nice, but it was just really, really, really big, and I felt quite overwhelmed. It is not a quick in and out place. Plan on spending some serious TIME. The Northfield Mariano's, I have very much become a fan of, and I will shop there. The rotisserie chicken salad is YUMMY! HOWEVER, the rotisserie chicken salad I got from the Glenview store the two times I stayed long enough to acquire some, contained fatty chicken elements that were unpleasant. If you are just trying to get shopping done quickly, this is not the place for you. And I don't know any kind of shopping but quick shopping. read more

I love Marianos! I have been to their locations on Elston, in Greektown, South Loop, Park Ridge, Arlington Heights, and now this one in Glenview. My favorite until now was the Greektown location because I thought the layout was great and I loved the oyster bar with real lobster bisque. However, this new location is great - very spacious. I love the Vero sandwiches, the cafe area with indoor trees, the juice bar, the hot and soup bar, and the BEST new addition is Todd's BBQ. I took home a pound of brisket and the beans for dinner, reheated nice and slow (low power in the microwave) and it was amazing with some bbq sauce I had in the fridge. I also love the Zum soap bars (near the pharmacy) that you can cut to size yourself. My favorite is the grey sea salt bar. This place is grocery heaven. It has everything you need. read more

I heard rave reviews from my parents about this store so I decided to check it out. That said I am a Trader Joe's, Whole Foods Market, and Fresh Farms shopper consistently. When you first walk into this store it is gorgeous....all the different food sections reminds me a little of the Whole Foods on Kingsbury. However, when I walk past that and saw the bathroom area and grocery section it looked like Target or Costco and I quickly lost interest. Not consistently beautiful and lost me. I left. I will go to the Mariano's on 22 which is closer to me if I am out of something which is better than a jewel or a Garden Fresh. However if you are trying to compete with Trader Joe's and Whole Food's you need to pay a little more attention to the psychology of not viewing your customers as lab rats going into a maze. People actually like to feel good and see beauty and ooh and ahh about how things are displayed. Something that Whole Food's does a great job with. read more

My first visit today. Huge, Costco-like to me. Produce section was disjointed and small. 1:00 in the afternoon and only two checkers? By the time I'd waited and waited behind a very slow checker, two lanes opened up but checker did not come out to gather up we folks who had been waiting. Instead, three people zoomed into the lanes. This is regular protocol at other groceries...always invite the waiting customer into the newly opened lane. Don't think I'll make the point to drive the distance to this one again. read more

I only buy their ground sirloin and chuck to mix together for burgers, other grocery stores just don't taste the same. And the fresh OJ, OMG it is delicious and for a great price! I'd like to say I visit Mariano's 4 days a week and on Wednesday they run a special either burger or steak sandwich with drink and chips for 6 bucks! Good deal. Be ware all steaks and burger are pre cooked and have been sitting there for over 45 minutes. Not the first time it's happend. Pros: -Good hot bar - way better than all the fried crap on the hot bar in Arlington Hts. -Lots of variety and everything seems to be stocked well. -Great selection of to-go meals by the deli counter - choose a protein and your sides. Cons: -You have to take a ticket at the deli counter in order to get to-go meals. Not so convenient at lunch - you have to wait for everyone ahead of you who are getting their pounds of deli meat and cheese sliced, which can take for freakin' ever. -Salad bar - the offerings are okay, but what's with the placement of the containers right by the lettuce bins? You have to reach OVER all the plastic containers to get salad. Plus, what's with the enormous sneeze guards over everything - they stick out so far it's hard to get your salad fixin's, especially the salad dressing. Someone did not think this one through very well. -Staff - ssslllooowwww.. and unfriendly. At the Arlington Hts store, even the teenagers are friendly and fast. Plus, they are always monitoring the length of lines at that store. In Glenview, too few lanes are open, especially around the lunch hour. They have separate lines by the "cafe" but even those lines are enormous. read more

I was shopping today at the Mariano's on Waukegan and Golf and wanted to get frozen chicken breasts I have previously purchased at this location. When I could not find them I asked and was sent to another area of the store. When I could not find them there I asked the gentleman working in this section. He looked and could not find them either. He said they are always moving things around. Ok ...things like this happen. I then decided to get some Italian sausage and rolls. I went to the checkout with the 10 items I was purchasing. The bill seemed high so I checked it. 2 of the 10 were priced incorrectly. I went to the service desk and showed them. Debbie checked the prices and said they were old tags but gave me the difference. She never expressed regret for the fact the tags were wrong or the fact I had to wait for her to check the price of the items. A simple sorry for the inconvenience would have made a huge difference. This is not the first time this has happened. The service varies greatly from day to day. The products are left on the shelves past the expiration date. Fortunately there are now several stores in the area to shop at. read more

I was so excited to have a Mariano's close by. It was a pleasant experience shopping there, UNTIL I went to the fresh fish section. I got some fish and then I noticed the sign that goes something like.. "We will steam or grill seafood for FREE". When I asked the attendant there to steam the fish I got, they said they have never done it and they won't do it even when I pointed to them the sign above them. That didn't even faze them seeing the sign. And I asked them to just grill the fish, and since they started to heat up the grill, they said they can grill the fish but it will take 20-30mins, to grill 2 small fillets, REALLY??? They weren't helpful at all and it seems to me, the vibes I got from them is that they couldn't care less.. and so, THIS REVIEW! I am not excited about Mariano's anymore.. and I have more places to shop with nice attendants who care about their costumers and the place they work it. Shopping here was a very new and surprising experience for me (as I just had to create a yelp account just to share my experience). This morning, I went to this location to buy some flowers. When I went over to pay for them, the cashier was greeting the person in front of me and proceeded to have a "friendly" conversation with them, even after he was done checking out their items. I was a little peeved by this, but I didn't say anything because this was the cashier's way of customer service, or so I thought. After several minutes of talking, the customers in front of me left and I moved forward and put the flowers on the conveyor belt. However, the cashier started to ignore me and have a chat with the person that bags your items. After multiple attempts to grab his attention, he grabbed the flowers and practically threw the flowers to his left. I asked for a bag as the flowers were dripping wet, but once again they ignored me. I bagged it myself and, feeling pretty pissed, turned to walk away. However, as the white customers behind me walked up to the cashier, he greeted them and smiled. I would like for this place to educate their workers properly and to employ workers that don't choose which customers to be nice to and which customers to ignore. read more

Love his place! And this area really needed something.... I would say if you're used to paying Whole Foods prices, you'll love Mariano's as a less expensive alternative. But if you're a Jewel and/or discount shopper, you may feel some of Mariano's pricing is too high... Personally I think you get more for your money at this store than shopping at Whole Foods or Jewel. It's a huge store and a great combo of price and quality. Fresher fish, better produce, a ginormous deli section. The bakery has tons of specialty breads and sweets. They serve $6.00 meals with a selection of meat or other proteins with any 2 sides. Great deal for a tasty fresh meal! Good freshly made sandwich and bbq sections as well... They'll actually cook a steak, chicken, etc for you on their open air grill at no charge. And you can eat it there with a glass of wine...Nice wine and cheese sections and several aisles of specialty foods from across the world....yet they have the lowest prices out there for many staples I buy. And finally, very helpful and friendly workers makes for an easier shopping experience....5 thumbs up! read more
