Rich's gets a bad rep but if you're just going for the food and not to make friends with the staff, then this is your go-to for anything deli related! I enjoy their veggie selections. Great eggplants, tomatoes, cucumbers and more. I would avoid their fruits and any overpriced nuts. They have an awesome deli section for meats and cheeses. The lines get long because it's just that good. Awesome sausage too! Some of their fresh bread is good but often times run out by mid-day. Great options for lunch specials if you need a quick meal, too! Avoid the desserts as they all look tastier than they actually are. read more

Watch out for incorrect price scans. 9/10 times I go I am charged incorrect prices. So check your receipt before you leave in case you missed anything during your checkout. Also watch out for fruit, I bought a nectarine which appeared fine, within 24 hours was gross. Not the first time I've ended up with rotten fruit. read more

I've been to Rich's Fresh Market quite a few times in the last month, and every time it's been okay. First off, they do have tons of sales. Random sales on everything - it's different every time which is nice. Sometimes they have 2 packs of strawberries for $5, 2 big packs of tomatoes for $5, their frozen meats are discounted at times, etc. The only thing is their sale items are for the most part moldy, rotten, or on the verge of becoming spoiled. You gotta look through to get a good to medium quality fruit/vegetable. I understand what other Yelpers mean about the staff; I can't speak for the back of house staff, but all the cashiers I've encountered have been relatively unfriendly. I'm not expecting some top notch service, but there's not even a hello, bye, or anything. When I asked for help one time the employee seemed annoyed to point me in the right direction for an item. They have plenty of products from all over the world which I love. Their deli, hot bar, and sushi are all great. Their ready-to-go soups and other side dishes are a hit, as well. For the most part the pricing is alright, sometimes some things are expensive and other times they're very affordable. Not sure if I'd highly recommend this place, but it definitely has its perks. read more

My son was hired and was still training, on his second part time day he was told by a manager Karen to " Go home " after taking 20 minutes brake instead of 15. My son who is 17 years old, respectfully said thank you very much, I am quitting. I went to the store and asked her why she treated my son so poorly, she called supervisor Arthur, who wasn't even present during the incident. Apparently he was told that my son took 45 min break, so easy to double up the lies. These people have no clue how to treat young employees who don't even have any experience. Love their homemade soups in the deli dept. I've been buying those for years. However I bought a few because I'll be bed ridden for a few days and wanted some fiber rich soups. The sour kraut soups I bought last week were terrible. They were mush. Couldn't even tell the sour krout was cabbage. And they had no (zero) meat in them. No bits of sausages or smoked meat. Overcrowded, feels dirty, hard to find what you are looking for. The express checkout, of 10 items or less, is apparently a suggestion. I had 5 items and the woman in front of me in line had over 30. I mentioned this to the checkout person and she agreed that she had more than 10 items, glad she was able to confirm that. I thought she couldn't count. I doubt that I will ever shop there again. It was merely convenient. I do wonder that will happen when folks moving into the "Luxury appartments/condos on Belmont will think about this place. My mother in law lives near this Rich's so she shops here often. The last time she went they accused her of putting things in her vest pocket. She carries her thermos in her pocket so it's bulky. She showed them what was in her pockets and they could clearly see she was not shoplifting. However, the worker was so rude to her and didn't even apologize for inconveniencing her and accusing her of something she was not doing. It's understandable that people have to do their jobs but you would think the least you could do after accusing someone of shoplifting and being wrong, is apologize! It's really upsetting because she doesn't drive and this Rich's is close to home and now she feels uncomfortable going here. read more

I always had a good experience go to this market because I can find different things to try and the usual stuff than I grown to like also the prices are pretty affordable. Rich's Fresh Market offers a large selection of polish products. Great deli and fresh baked goods. Most anything you need in European products. The cashiers are always helpful and always smiles on their face. Considering the people they have to deal with. I've heard customers yell even scream at cashiers over the smallest thing. I have seen customer make cashiers cry. These cashiers have to deal with a lot so give them a break. Food selection is good. Can usually always find what you need! read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE! I was unfortunately one of the recipients of this store's lack of empathy tonight - and unfortunately subjected to racism. The manager rudely invades my friend's personal space and pointed his finger at my friend just to tell him dogs are not allowed in the store. My friend was carrying a 10-pound dog that is 15 years old, is blind, hard of hearing and has collapsing episodes (so can't be really left alone at home). He specifically carried the dog around, so he doesn't touch any of the food items. I know, I know, common sense, don't bring dogs to a grocery store. But what happened next was unacceptable. I approached the commotion as he was yelling at my friend, and the first thing he says to me (he hasn't heard me talk) - a person of Asian descent - is - "do you speak English!" What was odd to me was, he spoke with a thick accent which is really not a thing to me, but just because I was clearly Asian and he was Caucasian, he assumes I didn't speak English. I filed a complaint at the front of the store - and went to see him again to ask his name - he didn't give me his name but said to me "get the fuck out of here" (mind you, I already paid for groceries at this point and at this point my friend is outside with the dog). This grocery store is catered to European grocery items. I was not aware of that when I came here looking to buy some regular old juice. So it took me about 10 minutes to find some sweet tea that I've had before. Never did find other juice brands that I was familiar with. Pros: * good assortment of European brands * there is a full liquor department * there is a deli that you can buy already cooked meals from, including sushi Con's: *there was no express line. Took me another 10 minutes or so to pay for my Sweet Tea. * the signage on the aisles were not grouped together with other like items * not much American brands available I was in a rush and was frustrated as everything was so hard to find. I've been shopping here since Dominick's closed. But after today, 10/6/24, I'll never go back. Today, the lady bagger, who was very nice, packed a little too much into 1 plastic bag. I didn't realize it until I was on my way out. So I went to grab an extra bag at an empty station to double bag it so it wouldn't break. A miserable, mean spirited, taller, thin man with glasses, I assume is the manager, pretty much attacked me as if I was stealing. He asked what I was doing. Loud enough for everyone to hear and, of course, embarrassed me for no reason. He said, "That costs money!" I told him I didn't want the bag to break, and I just spent $24. I was so mad and embarrassed. He told me to leave and never come back. He refused to give me his name. Trust me, after this incident, I'll gladly shop elsewhere. And here's a clue, I'm a customer, not a thief, you need me more than I need you, and just because I'm not Polish doesn't make me any less important of a customer or for you to treat me like trash. I feel very validated by others' experience at this store seeing as it has 2 stars. There is something very off about the energy in this place. Yes, there is a large selection of items and there are no spectacular deals here, but that isn't what is off-putting. The cashiers are rude every time. I don't think I've ever seen anyone at this store smile, staff or customers. And last time the cashier refused to bag my items because I had a reusable bag. People here seem to hate their job or life and do the bare minimum. Stay away if you care to have a pleasant experience and not feel scoffed at for setting foot in the place. read more

At 63,000 square feet, this gigantic store has some obvious issues with sanitation, no masks during a mandate, expediting customers, and wild goose chases from employees who sent us far across the store in the wrong direction looking for items. I get ads from Rich's Fresh Market weekly. Their low Yelp rating was sort of intimidating for me to take a leap of faith. Well, I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was a fairly well-run grocery store serving the Dunning, River Grove, and Elmwood Park neighborhoods. Yes, their prices on agricultural products aren't competitive. Some of them items looked fantastic, such as tomatoes on the vine and Aurora apples. Nevertheless, if you take a closer peek at some other fruit and veggies, especially the Asian-imported ones, I would say "skip them" and move onto other departments. Selfishly speaking, I gave Rich's a four (4) star because I found the following items I absolutely LOVE: - Polish tripe soup at their deli section - Tymbark juice on sale: four (4) for $5 In addition, the public ladies' room was spotless clean and parking is ample. Otherwise, public transportation is available: CTA #77 (Belmont) and PACE #331 (Cumberland/5th. Ave.). Let me start by saying that the store has a huge selection of product from different European countries. When ever I visited the store I could find good product with reasonable price. Which would make a great place for one-stop-shop, however the customer service and employees of that store are not worth dealing with. Most-not all employees look like they are not happy or angry that they are there. I asked couple of time employee to point me on where I can find product, there rolled there eyes and said that they don't work in that department and left. Be aware of there credit card chares. When I paid for the groceries the cashier told me the card didn't go through then she told me to swipe the card and put my pin again so I did. I check my credit card statement at home and I was charged twice, (this situation happened to my friend as well on different, on different register). When I went back to the store and showed them what they are doing and maybe to check there registers on credit card machines the customer service clerk told me that they are fine and I should check my card, and not waist her time. I am within walking distance from this store. However I go further away to other grocery stores cause I experienced rude cashiers here at Rich's fresh Market. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but neighbors also said they won't shop there because of that. There were a couple of them I suspect are racist. I've been coming here since they first opened and they have deteriorated and gone downhill consistently since. Their food in general is extremely overpriced. The produce and meat used to be my go-to until they jacked up the prices and continue to let it stay on the shelf while rotting. To make it worse, they repeatedly have some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Even the managers have horrible customer service skills, and at times are ignorant, so it's no wonder why the rest of the staff have no eye contact, no greeting, appreciation for their customers, and at times are just flat out rude! This place is a few blocks away so it's necessary for me to go here every once in a while. If you need to get in and out quickly, avoid evenings and weekends. The lines are long and take forever. The cashiers are nice and i don't blame them but it is a whole chore trying to run in and grab a few items and head home. You can pretty much find what you're looking for so the store has that going for it. The location has plenty of parking and the staff is helpful when asked. I've had no major problems here but the long lines are unpleasant because it happens so often. I tend to wait longer in line than my entire time shopping. This store is for Europeans and the other customer's body language will let you know that. Not that this has anything to do with the store or rating, its just an observation. Do not buy here I recently went shopping there for Christmas groceries. For Polish signature dishes we use dried wild mushrooms which I purchased After sinking them in a water mushrooms were infested with maggots I soaked 10 packs and over 2/3 had maggots in them Absolutely disgusting I did inform the store brought back the remaining ones I did not use but the manager told me I should have brought the infested once too Seriously??? You wanted me to bring maggots back??? 04/04/20 update 1. They don't even have hand sanatizing wipes at the dntrance 2. They continue to have a LOT of mid aisle product blocking your way. It makes social distancing very difficult with all this extra stuff blocking aisles. It was already very difficult to get thru 3. Poor service at the express checkout line. One customer had some type of issue. They made my elderly mom and I wait 10 minutes trying to resolve whatever issue she had. 4. A sea of people had to be 100 people all clustered in regular checkout line. 5. Workers restocking product in the midst of customers. Blocking me in while he unloads huge vat of watermelons using very heavy equipment that could injure someone. Elderly people like my mom are not agile. It can get very busy on the weekends and holidays so expect a wait when getting served at the deli, buffet and check out. They have a cool sushi special that is when you buy 2, you will get the 3rd one free (equal or lesser value.) They have a cafe area where you can order coffee and juice drinks. You can also order catering from the buffet and sushi department. Overall, you will find almost anything that you want. Employees are friendly and helpful whenever you need help finding something. This place has: great deals, open late, seating area, fresh produce, international selections, 3 express check outs, great liquor selection, public restrooms, and knowledgeable staff. They accept EBT and credit cards. This place doesn't have: Apple Pay, cash back, senior discounts, doesn't accept personal checks and WIC. read more

This place is amazing. Customer service is nonexistent. Deli employees don't understand US weights and measures. Sorry, this is America, we still use pounds and fractions thereof. Foreign language labels don't work for me and lots of other people who don't speak their language. I am fluent in English, German and good in Italian and a touch of Spanish. I love shopping in this store, you can go here early in the morning, late morning, or evening. But I will suggest to go and shop earlier so that you can avoid the long lines. They have lot of European products, international foods, and also ready to eat foods. All of it are so delicious and fresh. They also have pastries, desserts, and other beverages. Really love this fresh market, lots of products from other countries, lots of variety and choices of items, and also all their produce has a good quality. And all of it has a decent prices too. This place is so fantastic and perfect place to go for your everyday essentials. Their produce are always fresh from their fruits, vegetables, meats, and even their foreign foods are so great. Love coming here as much as possible, so that I can always avail some of their products and all the items I need in daily life. Their staff are so really helpful, everyone there are so willing to help all of their customers and assist them. Person working at the bakery struck gold with this job because even if by some miracle you find her there, she won't even acknowledge your existance or communicate with you. Then your challenge will be to buy something that's barely fresh. Waiting 20min at the meat section for the employee to finish up his friend customer that is only getting one thing is a pain as well. I just came back from the store and found out my oranges was not in my bag. I called the store right away and spoke with Marika. She said I have to come to the store to check my receipt and camera. The oranges are only $1.84, I asked if she can credit my card on the phone and check the cashier, April I think her name is, register# 6 if my oranges are there. She said no because I I'm lying no one returned anything from the cashiers. I repeated to her if she just told me I'm lying. She said yes! This place need to treat people with respect!. Even before COVID, this was a subpar grocery store at best. It was only a couple blocks from me so it was convenient. I decided to stop going there because I found much better grocery stores, with better quality. Flash forward to today - I went by my grandma's and she needed one ingredient so I thought Rich's is close, how bad can it be? Well they were enforcing the mask policy. A policy that is law. There were many people (including employees) that did not have a mask on. Others had face shields with no face which, in all honesty, you're better off wearing nothing. This shows how little they care about their customers, and the quality of their food. If this is how it is up front, who knows how bad it is behind the scenes. read more

I thought this place was fantastic. Large, well stocked, lots of produce, and with some serious good deals. I always like checking out a store's prepared fare to see how it stacks up. I noticed a salad with chicken that had a huge cut up breast on it and dark lettuce. That definitely speaks to good quality to me. There is a lot of cultural flare and European items for sale. It was fun to peruse some of the beer options and pick out something new. These are the kinds of stores I love to just meander through. I always buy more than I intend to, but the deals you can find are so random and good, you can't pass them up. My favorite example of this is for one brand of hummus... on sale for 0.99-- and when I checked at Mariano's later that week, I saw it there for $4.50! I was so excited for this deal! The store was super busy, but when we went to pay, the check out lines were totally empty. AND they had Chupa Chups for sale near the register... those are hands down the best suckers ever!
