The policy of checking every self checkout that selects 0 bags is such an obvious self-sabotage. You're actively making it infinitely worse for your customers by putting 1 person who has to sign off on every check out order. Sometimes I'm waiting 2-3 minutes after I've already finished checking out just for them to validate that I am in fact using my own bags. So long as this policy exists I will not be shopping at this Mariano's . BTW this only happens at this Mariano's. The one on Ashland no problem. Wanna shop in Skokie feel free. came here as they have parking lot, walk in, find this supermarket is bright and clean and very organized. Asked a staff about where to find tofu, and he is very friendly to take me to the place and also point me another place to find more variety. I got the egg roll wrap, though they don't have huntun wrap, but i guess if i cut the egg roll wrap into 4, it's good for huntun! I'm pretty pleased with my invention. read more

Mariano's is a Kroger store and their management is not even aware of their own policies. Krogers/Mariano's stores have a standard policy that is called the scan right guarantee policy. If the item is charged a higher price than the shelf/ advertised price then the first item is free and the multiple items are corrected to the advertised price. I have informed Kroger Corp. of this issue/ complaint and other Mariano's in Chicago refuse to honor or are completely ignorant of this policy. This is sad a manager doesn't even know their own stores policies. Other stores and other managers were also ignorant besides the Marianos in Roscoe Village. read more

For the love of god and all that is holy. Open the self check out lanes that include the belts so those of us with larger orders can check ourselves out during the early morning or late evening. Stop leaving open only the side that has the tiny check out stands and instead leave the right open. You're slowing down the flow of customers so much I'm starting to avoid your store. read more

THIS IS ACTUALLY A ZERO STAR REVIEW BUT ITS MAKING ME LEAVE A STAR!! Cashier name JAE would not help my elderly husband put in the phone number nor help him use the link card. I'm sick so I stayed in the car before someone blasts me and says I should have gone in. He wanted to go here instead of jewel for better food selection. They help him at Jewel. Will not be returning until they teach their cashiers about RESPECT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. This isn't the first time this has happened. If you're going to put limits on how many items can be bought, then keep manned registers open. And if you're going to offer coupons to shoppers, then make sure they scan. Beside the normal issues of half empty shelves and high prices, my issue is with the check-out. Before I vent, let me say that I am a senior citizen and must carry supplemental oxygen with me always. Last summer we had a brutally hot day and it wasn't a whole lot better inside the store. Since my husband's health isn't great either, we only go grocery shopping once or twice a month so we had quite a bit. We looked for a cashier to check out but there were none. We were both very tired after shopping and didn't want to use the self-checkout but we had no choice. We looked around for some assistance but we didn't see any employees so we proceeded to scan the items. About a quarter of the way through, I began to feel dizzy and almost fell, had my husband not caught me. An employee must have seen this because she came with one of those chairs on wheels. We received help with our remaining order and to the car. Before leaving, I asked if they were short-staffed that day and she said no but it was a new policy to not have cashiers. We decided to shop at Jewel after that so I don't know if that policy is still in place. It was dumb to even think about implementing this type of service cuts. I'm not the only senior with health problems and even young people have disability issues. It all boils down to greed. Hire fewer people to put more cash in the company coffers. read more

I can't say that I'm a regular, but I frequently use the Mariano's a great landmark for me when I visit my sister in Chicago. Her actual condo was within walking distance of this Marianos, but she's since moved a little further away, but I still use this Marianos to orient myself and where I am on Western. There has been A LOT of construction on Western, but it looks like the construction in front of this Mariano's has been completed. I recently came here to get some deli meat. The woman at the deli counter was super nice and gave me some tips on what ham to get - even gave me a sample. The store is super clean and organized and the parking lot is easy to get in and out. I also grabbed some baked goods and some other miscellaneous items while I was there. It is very sneaky to have the bakery across from the deli counter. While you are waiting to get service, you can't help but browse all the treats the bakery produces. read more

I went to Mariano's last night around 7:45 to pick-up a couple items. They had NO cashiers on duty, not a single person and the self check out line was 25 people deep. This is ridiculous! My daughter needed to collect brown paper grocery bags for her school's food drive. On a trip to this Mariano's we met the manager Joel Heseman. After we checked out, before we made it to our car, he and his employees brought 3 giant cases of brown bags to our car. Along with water. My daughter was ecstatic, as was the school. Joel got a shout out in the newsletter and we've told everyone who will listen how much we love that Mariano's. Joel also creates a terrific culture at Mariano's. Everyone working there is kind and give the distinct impression that they are part of the community. read more

They don't seem care about ringing people up, they want you to ring yourself up. They have tried to direct me to that multiple times. I have kids and have to wait in line for the only register that they open. On top of that they reprimanded the guy that was helping the only cashier bag, and sent him to an empty self check out section. read more

The store feels too small for the neighborhood it's trying to serve. The frozen foods section was blocked off with a surly woman serving up some sort of appetizer out of a toaster oven with boxes thrown all over the floor. The produce section was blocked off with crates of produce all over the place (on a Sunday morning) so it was nearly impossible to navigate a cart through the section. The loudspeakers are playing rock music, except some loudspeakers are playing Christmas music, while the pianist up front (who is very friendly) is playing Broadway tunes. All of this clashing music gave me a headache and I want to bolt out of there as quickly as possible. Thumbs up to our cashier Shakira who was very nice, attentive, and efficient. read more

What a complete covid disaster. Unbelievably, this company has done a poor job of keeping this store safe for customers. When you walk in, they have spray bottles of disinfectant to clean your cart. This is not clean because so many people touch the bottle. They were also out of paper towels. There had been several rolls sitting there at one point. Also, putting out rolls for people not on a holder, is unclean. ....hey guys, why don't you just wipe them down for customers eh? They were not watching how many people were in the store. Consequently, there were way too many people in the store. To make matters worse, the store has done nothing to keep their aisles clear and make it easier to social distance. In fact, they have made their aisles even worse by the huge number of displays placed in the aisles. Every one. They also have people stocking shelves and blocking aisles in the day. Stock at night!! Lastly, they had employees wearing white lab coats that were so stained and just filthy with dirt. Looked like they had never been washed. I don't know. Felt unclean and very uncomfortable from a virus standpoint. Grade F on Covid response and I would not recommend taking the risk at this store. read more

Worst Mariano's and possibly worst grocery store overall. Half of the self checkouts closed during peak time, half registers opens and products being sold up and down the middle of aisles. Impossible to navigate around in a cart. Kroger is driving the overall chain into the ground, and this one is ahead of the others. read more

Marianos it's one of my favorite places to shop , fresh cut up fruit ready to go , muffins, and much more I used to get my last minute birthday cakes at Jewel osco but Marianos taste much better The problem it's the rude employees, I went there yesterday March 22 , Monday around 1:30 to get a cake , I asked the girl (young Latina I believed)at the cake section to write happy birthday on cake she grabbed wiry attitude, wrote on it , put back on the counter , I said thank you and she rolled her eyes on me didn't even answer , completely ignored me I was going to complained about her to the manager but I was in a rush Terrible customer service! Everything says store closes at 10:00. Security doesn't let you inside after 9:45. Ridiculous.

They never have enough staff working here. Last week I had to wait for a shopping cart and they only had one poor kid out there trying to pick them up. Yet inside half the other employees in the produce section were just hanging out talking. Attempted to get food from the grill, they said 20 min. 40 minutes later the guy was cooking one hot dog on the grill and seemed very confused. I just told him never mind cooking my chicken, who knows how long it would have taken. Whoever manages this store needs to just walk around and they will see how messed up the place is. The deli always has a long line too. Then you see other staff talking on their cell phones walking around the store. read more

The bit with THE "REWARDS CARD" is completely ridiculous!! Been shopping here since they opened and had a brown card linked to phone number; YOU NEVER SAVED A SINGLE CENT!! Now.... they have "SOME" sale prices in the store but you MUST have the new card that they switched to or you don't get the sale price?? Dumbest thing I've ever seen and costing them tons of business! I actually changed the card and thought I linked my phone number online but at check out the cashier said that my phone number WAS NOT LINKED and I don't get the measly sale prices? Are you kidding me.. last trip! First off.. why would you change the old linked cards? Why would you INSIST people have the card on hand to get the sales prices? This location is an unsanitary joke. They let customers walk into the store without masks even though it clearly states everywhere that's it's necessary. Also half the employees were wearing them so it's clear that management doesn't care. They also made the whole store congested feeling with cases of way to many things in the way. I'm sure they have room in the back for half the stuff. The produce area is always out of bags and you have to use the organic bags so if you don't tell the cashier ahead of time you will be paying more. read more

We've been coming here since they opened as Marino's - once a upon a time they were Dominick's. The food selection is just great... from the fresh produce, the prepared meals for the nights that you just don't have a chance to cook, the sushi, the pizza and both the salad bar & soup bar. It's a great location for even the kids coming from Lane High School to get a good meal instead of fast food. Today's trip was to pick up a few things that we needed for the week and decided to purchase 4 containers of soup so that we have something for lunch and even bought some pizza slices for our daughter so that she can have some food for lunch as well. It can be a little bit much at times with the number of people that are there but haven't had a bad experience there - yet! read more

I love Mariano's however they stopped selling their homemade cheese popcorn for some reason and it was out of this world equal or better than Garretts at a way smaller price. Please bring it back. This is a great grocery store with lots of selections and everything carefully laid out in a way that makes it easy to shop. Prices were pretty fair and the selection was actually impressive. I don't eat cheese very much at all but the cheese selection was pretty impressive as well as the liquor section. There is an international food area that's a little bit pricey but it had everything that we needed. Overall, very good experience with lots of parking on site. The self serve register is a nightmare. Doesn't work, properly. read more

The prices are relatively low, the produce is nice and fresh, and the employees are polite and actually seem happy to be there. Ok, giving one star hoping to get their attention... WOMENS BATHROOM: A) there's no toilet paper holders, and the rolls are set on top of the dirty tampon holders B) they do not have paper towels. They have air dryers, which would be fine if you didn't have to touch the dirty bathroom door handle to get out... please install a foot pull or a handicap automatic door opening button.. -- everything else is great... the bathroom logistics are just super unsanitary in times of a viral pandemic.. sanitary bathroom exit strategy is a must.. please add paper towels and trash bin by door at the very least. read more

I am a regular customer of Mariano's - Roscoe Village. The store has pretty much everything I needed in my groceries like fresh produce, natural organic products, and even meats. Almost everything has a great quality and there are also some international products that are available in here. I love their selection of ice cream and I got to taste many flavors of it. Today, some items that I like are not in stock and most of the products are on the floor in the aisle and it is blocking the way as well as the shelves, staffs must be too busy to finish it. I was able to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. I also decided to eat something from their hot food bar and as expected, foods taste great and has a nice flavor. I was satisfied with bunch of items in my cart when I decided to checkout and was literally surprised by the attitude of the teenager staff in the counter. I would still prefer to go here because I got everything I wanted in here for a reasonable price and I just hope that the staffs improve their attitude toward customers. read more

I shop here all the time, but I'll tell you, their customer service and packing skills leave a lot to be desired! Today there was some gross liquid stuff on the conveyor belt, i didn't want to put my bags in it so i waited to get the cashier's attention and I asked if he had a rag to wipe it and he just said set it down. Gross. The last time I was in here , and I think this time too although I haven't unpacked yet, they don't put the meat in little bags and there was meat juice all over my bag. Double gross. There's another Mariano's not too much farther away, I might start going there and see if it's any better. read more

Updated January 4, 2015: This is my email sent to their corporate website (via "Contact Us") after my visit to the Roscoe/Western store 1/4/15, plus several pictures uploaded as well. "Greetings - I have been a loyal Mariano's customer ever since you arrived in the Chicago area. Imagine my delight when a Mariano's opened in the old Dominick's store at Western and Roscoe. I have been a regular customer since the store opened, plus I go to the stores on Lawrence and Ashland. These comments are specific to the Western/Roscoe store. After the first six months or so, no problems. I was able to get high-end meats and fish. Then the high-end meat was gone, so I started to get my meat (again) from Gene's in Lincoln Square, Paulina Meat Market, and even Jewel. Then I had two experiences with buying fish and seafood. Two times (one time during an embarrassing dinner party at my house), I opened my purchases of seafood from Mariano's and it was bad. I mean REALLY bad. Both times I notified the store, to which they told me to bring in the receipt, but really didn't have any response when I asked if they were going to check the remaining scallops that were in the case. Nothing. I have stopped buying any fish or seafood from this store. Since then, this place has been on the decline rapidly. I just left there (Sunday January 4th, 2015). Now I know it's a Sunday and I know it's after the holidays, but this place was a complete mess. The shelves were a disaster, many were empty, there was hardly any chicken or milk; there wasn't even any spinach. Seriously? The place was filthy. I heard other customers saying the similar things about the condition and availability (one woman saying to her friend "it's like they haven't paid their bills")... I mentioned something to the service desk and she said, 'no one has said anything'. Ok, but I just did. I asked if she - or anyone working here - had walked around the store today, because it is that bad, and she said she would notify the manager. I took pictures of this mess and will be posting them on Yelp, because this store is seriously mis-managed as compared to your newer stores.
