I took a $450 velvet dress to her for repair and she was so rough in handling the garment after that she cause a patch of the fabric to be ripped from the dress. My machine was busted so I needed to find a spot near my hood to hem a silk robe, silk shirt, and silk dress. I have always gone to places in the city that do hems perfectly so it was definitely my fault for assuming that everyone knows how to work with this type of fabric. One of the sleeves on the robe was already finished when my machine broke down so I expected the seamstress to be able to match the width/stitch that was already there. Instead, I have two sleeves that don't even match and if I were to correct this issue, I would ruin the garment completely because there isn't enough fabric left to redo the hem. I do understand that the common way to create a hem is to use a serger but you still should create a 'ROLLED HEM'. All of my garments had raw edge hems which you can see when the inside of the item shows. I really could have done a top-notch job myself just hand-stitching. The way to properly hem silk: Align the strip with one seam allowance raw edge, and sew a 1/4-inch seam allowance. For precision edges, try a special presser foot designed for sewing 1/4-inch seam allowances. Wrap the strip to the underside of the seam allowance, and pin it in place. Stitch-in-the ditch along the strip seam to finish Note: For a thinner silk, use a smaller stitch around 1.5-2. For a thicker silk, use a 2-2.5 stitch. Test on a scrap piece of fabric before stitching on your actual fabric. The best way to attach the seams for silk garments is by using French seams Second Note: Most overlockers can sew a rolled hem stitch. The rolled hem stitch is sewn using either two or three threads, depending on your model - be sure check your instruction manual first. Rolled Hemming is suitable for light weight fabrics such as voile, organdy, crepe etc. I am thankful that the seamstress took time to work on my garments but I'm also so disappointed because of the items that were so poorly stitched. You just can't use a serger for all fabrics and expect the same results. read more

I had asked Maria to alter a bridesmaids dress for me. We had agreed upon a price. Come to find out, when looking at her price sheet when I went to pick up the dress, I was clearly overcharged. Only by 5-10$ or so, but still. Then after trying on the dress, part of the alteration we had agreed upon was not done. She was able to do it for me while I waited, but then charged me an extra 5$. I don't like being taken advantage of... and I think that certainly happened today. I recommend you read her price list before agreeing to an obscure price. read more

She is truly amazing. I took her a blazer. To take it in from the sides and shorten the sleeves. I took it to her Monday night (12-16-19) she had it ready by 12-18-19. Fairly priced. She charged me $35. Seemed a little much but her fast turn around time and how good it was done was worth it. I had another seamstress that would take days/weeks and charge me the same. No complaints here! Wanted to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed with no frills as the dress was only $50 hahah so didn't want to spend more than that just to shorten it!
