I usually like this place, but they are only as good as their last meal served. I have had turkey sandwiches and the chicken pot pies, and they are usually pretty good. Another positive is that they are very fast. The manager is always up front and genuinely nice and fast. Food arrives within minutes. But today, I stopped in for breakfast and it was not good. The tater tots had an off, chemically flavor, like a cleaning solvent. The eggs and the gravy were flavorless. It was really gross and left a very literal bad taste in my mouth that I can still feel as I write this. Maybe they were just having a bad day? But my meal before the tip was $22, so that left a very figurative bad taste in my mouth. I'll think twice before going here again. read more

I was so excited to see there was a MC still open bcs there isn't many around and they actually moved from a main Street location to being inside a shopping center, not very visible. I was across the street having lunch when I saw it. The intention was for my friend and to enjoy some dessert (pie). It was a very warm day and as soon as we walked in noticed their AC wasn't working, that might explain why there was only 1 customer at a table by a big fan they had going. We were greeted and we walked over to the pie and decided to get a cheesecake pie with strawberries on it! I was excited to enjoy it and asked if it can be cut so that we can enjoy a couple slices at the restaurant and unfortunately we were told no. They cannot cut it and we can't enjoy the pie there either, if we bought a slice of pie then yes we could have, since we bought a pie to go, no plates or forks could be given to enjoy in house. Oof, this was a bummer. Haven't been to Marie Callender's in years and was craving a banana cream pie. I chose the wrong place. I actually have the Yelp Maverick check in badge which means I have checked into places with subpar average ratings in the past. The Marie Callender's in Torrance has since closed for good a while back so it's just Pedro and Gardena left in the South Bay. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. The hubby and I had brunch here. The dining area only consists of 10 table and chairs. There is no AC and they have a fan blowing. Our brunches were mediocre. Hubby's meatloaf, mash/gravy, and veggies needed a lot of oomph. Seasoning for sure. My breakfast croissant was on fast food level. Tater tots were A-OK. Finally, for dessert my banana cream pie looked so sad. Not the Marie's of yesteryear. It was meh and needed more love. The service was actually fine. There are some nice people working here. This Marie Callender's is unique as it is Quick serve . The menu is not as extensive as the table service stores. I chose the Eggs Benedict my friend went for meatloaf. You will be disappointed if you are looking for a lot of detail in the decor. This store is in a strip center and is as extremely bland. Food is good , service is prompt. Friendly. Everything is spotless. If you are an extreme minimalist you will feel at home. Pie is still on full display and the selection is good. I recently dropped in for a late lunch (about 2:00p). As mentioned in previous posts, the format of this restaurant is fast casual. You go to the counter and place your order. If you are dining in, they will give you a flag, You select a seat, and they will bring your order to you. I have no complaints about the service. I had not had a turkey pot pie in years. I ordered one, for the sake of nostalgia. I was disappointed. The crust was very nice--but it was practically all gravy inside. I can see them being stingy with the turkey; but they skimped on vegetables, too. I am sure that the pot pies are assembled off site and heated at the restaurant. I am unsure if this is a indication that this menu item offers very little value, or if there is a quality control problem at the co-packer. We haven't been to Marie Callender's in years, this location did not disappoint! We will definitely be back. We came in for dinner around 6pm, only 2 tables were occupied and there were a couple of people waiting for their to go/delivery pickup orders. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was a huge tasty portion, my kids each ordered the kids soup/salad bar, kids omelet, and kids turkey dinner. All their choices were great, nice large portions that filled them up. The cashier/server was very attentive, he brought us our food and came by several times to ask if we were good and if we needed anything. My sisters and I along with a few friends have been dining at this Marie Callendar location for the past three or four months. Each visit has been a nice experience with great service and equally great food. The turkey dinner is excellent and just like a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Everyone who has ordered in our numerous visits has been satisfied and pleased. It's not the normal table service but ordering at the register is fine. The meals are served promptly and with excellent customer service. A good indication of the quality food being served is the large number of takeout orders being picked up. Our Thanksgiving with Marie Callender's was a complete disaster. We spent $184 on what was supposed to be a delightful feast, only to have the plastic dishes provided melt in the oven as instructed, ruining the entire celebration. Following the given directions to remove the lids but leave the plastic dishes in the oven resulted in a pervasive smell of burning plastic throughout our house. This raised concerns among our guests about the safety of consuming the sides and even the turkey. Apart from the distressing experience with the plastic dishes, we now also have to contend with the aftermath of cleaning melted plastic from the bottom of our oven. This, coupled with the overall dissatisfaction of our Thanksgiving, leaves us deeply disappointed. I sincerely hope Marie Callender's takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues to prevent others from encountering similar Thanksgiving nightmares. I'm very surprised to see that this place remains open. It should have closed years ago. Now it's a sad and dingy, grimy, unclean shadow of its former self. Hardly a restaurant really, more of a pie shop with a few old worn out tables and chairs. This seems to match the look of the clientele, at this point. Bought a Lemon cream cheese pie, and a double blueberry pie yesterday, got them home, realized after one bite, that they were both old, and not properly being rotated. The crust on the double blueberry pie was ashen white and mushy, most likely the crust was not properly cooked, and then the pie was not moved out after day old status had expired. Worked for Marie Callender's for a little over 10 years, I made the pies for most of that time. Our policy then was if the pie didn't sell by the end of the second day, it went into the trash, or home with an employee. The lemon cream cheese, the crust was wet and mushy, and the lemon pie filling was tough, dead give a way for a pie being sold past it's expiration. Won't be back, in fact this is the first bad Marie Callender's Pies I've ever come across. Months back we ordered pies at the National and Sawtell store, they couldn't have been fresher or more perfect. From the looks of other peoples posts, this particular location is dragging the company's brand into the mud. If you don't want to conduct business they way people expect you too, get out of the business. Your in the business of selling perishable merchandise. I wasn't expecting much of the food because Marie Callender's is just like any other restaurant in its category, but it was good enough to enjoy my time being ignored while I read my book. Efrain, the man who served me was very nice, but for the hour that I was here, he spoke to me one time and that was when I walked up and ordered the soup & salad bar. I waited a solid 45 minutes to see if he would come up and ask how I was doing and he never came to check on me, nothing! He was very attentive to the table of women that arrived about a half hour after me though: Checking on them, refilling their coffee, making idle chatter with them. I thought I was a pretty good looking myself, but I guess not pretty enough for Efrain to acknowledge my existence! Terrible! The food was so bland and bad! Everything was bad from the soup to the pie! We got a turkey dinner and pot roast. The pot roast had a weird flavor to it and there wasn't enough potatoes. The turkey dinner was really bland. We got the potato and cheese soup and split pea. The potato and cheese tasted just like milk and the split pea was okay. I've never seen split pea soup have actual green peas in it but it wasn't bad. We got the chocolate silk pie and chocolate cream pie. The silk pie crust was salty and the cream pie tasted like chocolate Jello pudding from the store. I went there a few years ago and I don't remember the food being so bad and bland.
